After years living somewhere without access to organized, instructed fitness classes, I was eager to find a workout that would challenge me regularly and fit well in my routine. In the trials of many studios through the city I’ve stuck with Gauntlet in the long term and they’ve continued to keep me learning! I feel strong, in control of my body, knowledgeable about why and how I should focus on particular muscle groups in intervals to maintain sustained, lifetime strength. This is the place to establish healthy habits with the flexibility of real people going through different seasons of life! In a year of unexpected changes this place has been a constant source of confidence for which I’m grateful.

I found Gauntlet soon after moving to Birmingham and have loved being a part of this community ever since! The workouts always fresh and challenging, and I appreciate that there are low impact options available for the floor work. Gauntlet has some of the most passionate, caring trainers and the community is second to none! Fellow classmates have become good friends, and the gym is always finding ways to encourage healthy lifestyles and lifting each other up. I love bringing friends here!

I love the kickboxing/HIIT workout at Gauntlet Fitness in Homewood! I’ve been a member for 3 years and I go about 3-4x/wk. I look forward to the 30-min express class at 12:00 because it breaks up my workday and gives me just the break/energy boost I need for the second half of the day! Not to mention they have a lockers/showers so I can freshen up before I return to work. The trainers are knowledgeable and empowering, the workouts are challenging but fun, and the playlists are always fire! They have a range of affordable membership packages that they can customize to suit your needs. If you haven’t checked it out before you definitely should! When I (maybe begrudgingly) agreed to try Gauntlet with a friend about 2 years ago, I didn’t expect to like it… and I sure didn’t expect to love it. I had never done a workout like that before & it made me nervous - it turns out there was no reason to be nervous. The trainers at Gauntlet are helpful and encouraging, the workouts are made to fit you at your level, and the atmosphere is top-tier. 2 years later, and I’m still excited to go to class! What started as mere curiosity a year and a half ago turned into my favorite place to workout. I never thought I’d fall in love with kickboxing but Paul and the rest of the instructors create a special environment that is not only fun but extremely welcoming. In a city inundated with gyms of all kinds (boxing, fitness, yoga/pilates, cycle), Gauntlet tops them all with their incredible staff, amazing community, and creative workouts. As a yoga teacher by trade, I find the workouts challenging and refreshing. A unique combo of HIIT and kickboxing, I leave every class feeling incredible (and sweaty!). The instructors INSTRUCT which I appreciate - emphasizing technique over everything. But it’s the people that really make it. I came to learn a new skill, and stayed for the community. Don’t miss out on this one. It’s the best I’ve tried in the city!

There is no other gym in the Birmingham area like Gauntlet fitness. I have been a huge advocate for health and fitness for years and Gauntlet welcomed me with open arms. The environment to get the best you showing to the rest of the world. This is for the starter to Elite athlete. There is strength training as well as kickboxing. Not an easy workout but definitely a great workout. The coaches and attention to detail is second to none. Efficiency and energetic. If you're one of those 3 hours in the gym guys. Give it a try. A person on the couch looking for a fresh start. Step in the gauntlet and be a better you... glad I found a workspace that will allow me to improve and grow in the physical fitness world....

I joined gauntlet a little under six months ago and I'm so happy that I did! It's definitely a place that you can find community and not just another gym. I've quickly made friends with those that I train beside. The trainers are knowledgeable, encouraging, and very welcoming. They are always looking for ways to challenge their members so there's always something new to get plugged into.
As a young woman, I find a lot of comfort knowing that I carry the kickboxing skills with me everyday. From time to time, they will host self defense classes which are so beneficial.
Overall, can't recommend Gauntlet enough!

I love gauntlet. It's a fast paced tough class that makes you feel good about who you are at any place in your fitness journey. Wasn't a big gym guy but came in here and felt right at home. Not only is this a great (like sopping wet/shakymuscles) workout- the instructors are encouraging, help you adjust correctly, and challenging - the community there cant be beat- welcoming- funny- we are all in it together! Finally- i appreciate that the workout is able to be adapted to different levels- i like high energy/low impact as an older person- but im in there with super fit people and we are all going full blast- at our level! I’ve never had so much fun in a workout class! It is not only fun though...these are the hardest workouts I’ve ever done! I’ve been to all kinds of fitness classes and Gauntlet classes are my absolute favorite!!! I’ve been going for a few months now and have seen changes in my body that’d I’ve never been able to achieve on my own! My arms are especially more toned now which has always been a struggle. You get so much attention/encouragement from the trainers (who are all AWESOME and feel like family btw) and you learn self defense moves in the process! I feel stronger mentally and physically every time I complete a class here! Always a challenge and a great sweat!

I love this gym! The trainers go above and beyond to create challenging and fun workouts while making you feel so at home. They push you to be the best you can be. I knew nothing about kickboxing before starting and the trainers have taught me technique and pushed me to improve each class. I can't say enough how incredible and unique this place is. If you think 'how different can it be?', trust me, you have never experienced anything like the Gauntlet! If you're completely new to kickboxing, take the basic lessons first (heck, even if you have some experience, the fundamentals are taught correctly here)

This Gym is phenomenal. Not only are you working out and reaching your goals but you are learning good self defense at the same time. The owner, David Sheram has years of martial arts and military training, as well as great teaching experience which means he works with everyone distinctly on what they need to reach the next step to get a better workout and perfect their movements. You signed up to go to kickboxing so expect to get your sweat on. It is kickboxing in HIIT form. High intensity, strong movements, increased heart rate, different movements over the course of a timed session. April is great. The atmosphere is motivating and not intimidating. Regulars are encouraging. And as a first timer, I'll be back to conquer my footwork. Good stuff!
