It’s decent basic gym. The equipment is a little run down but, it’s open 24hrs and it’s affordable.

I was in town for a 3-week job and contacted this gym because I was looking for a place I could prepay and they said they would accommodate. Since 3 weeks is almost a month, I offered to pay for a one-month membership no contracts, no commitments. They ran my card for 3 months membership. I figured since I said 3 weeks, which is uncommon, a 3-month charge may have been a mistake. That was not to be. When I brought this to their attention, they offered to refund the 3 months and then recharging me for one month. Then 10 days later I was charged for another 3 months, with no refund ever received for the first 3 months charge. The job ended after less than 3 weeks. So I use the facility once in 10 days and somehow had to pay for 6 months completely. The one time I did attempt to use the gym, they didn't even want to let me in. I had to call the owner so I could get in. If and when I receive my refund, I will revise this review. If you still see this review, please know that I was charged 6 months up front to use the gym one time when they knew I was a traveler.

I would give zero stars if I could, but that wasn't an option. I went to the Homewood location today to try and fix my card, which has been a problem for months now. Every time I slide it, it just doesn't work. This issue started a few months ago, and it’s been a hassle ever since.

When I spoke with Steven, he was incredibly rude. He blamed Mark for doing something that messed up my card, which is absurd. My mom and I have been on the same account for over five years without any issues until Steven showed up. His customer service is atrocious. He treats gym members like they're children and has no clue how to communicate respectfully. I even witnessed him being disrespectful to a female member, using an aggressive tone that was completely out of line.

I asked him to help fix my card, but he outright refused. He told me that if I ever wanted to come back, I could only enter with my mom. Sure, I'm on her account, but I've always had my own card—we split the payments! Then he said I would have to rejoin and pay $150 upfront, which makes no sense since I’ve been a member for years.

Honestly, we're canceling our membership and heading to Planet Fitness, where they don’t have ridiculous annual fees. I plan to reach out to corporate about this nonsense. We haven’t been notified of any changes, and it seems like Steven is completely clueless. He’s rude to everyone, and if you don’t start hiring better employees, your gym is going to be empty.

This is scam gym. They will say that they are going to give you a discount and will ask you to join 6 month and 12 month membership. They will say they are going to cancel your membership but they don't. Then you are stuck with it and keep charging your card and ultimately you get call from attorney office to pay debt and all. I have moved from Birmingham 1.5 years go and have to pay hundreds of dollar in membership last week otherwise they were going to put this on my credit report.

Poor customer service. They also have a scammer-behavior. I was charged extra on my card and the owner refuse to give me my money back. I even tried cancelling, it’s just a beat around the bush. Best bet finding a next gym, with better customer service and people that actually work there to monitor and keep everything sanitized. Worst gym experience ever. 0 Stars!

Buyer Beware! The scam artist owner Marc Davis said he canceled my membership and it wouldn’t get charged again and now I have Paramount Acceptance calling again saying I missed a payment. We have documented proof of you specifically saying you wouldn’t charge me again. This will be a lawsuit you need to make this right stop lieing. I will be uploading to this review your text messages stating it’s canceled and I wouldn’t get charged again.

New location is too small to support more than 3 - 4 people within the 'gym,' plates are thrown around with no organization to what little is already there, football teams in their entirety will come to use the gym leaving few usable machines around. This gym will not return money they take from you - I was charged for an annual membership 6 months before my current plan ended and cannot get the money back from this place. Go to Nexus, Planet Fitness, The YMCA, anywhere but here.

Hi, I’d like to suggest anyone who’s thinking of signing up, to please reconsider! Gyms like planet fitness are way better options. I am thoroughly disappointed in their poor customer service. You would think an actual facility would have the ability to be decent at communicating, but this location is everything but decent! I signed up for a yearly membership and paid full in three month payments, and was told I could cancel at anytime. I recently called the manager who was in charge of everything (did I also mention no paperwork was involved? Unprofessional to the very end.) and he immediately gave me a number and hung up. I called the third party and found out I can’t even cancel with them bc I paid a full year. According to them, they have no clue why the manager, Mark, even referred me to them because such cancellation process (my case) has to be done with him and the branch I signed up for. I have been trying to contact Mark, which was to no avail, who has not picked up any calls since he gave me the other number. Totally unprofessional and poor location. I cannot emphasize this anymore, just look elsewhere!

I have been a member since 2013. They have recently moved to a smaller space which is litterally a smelly box that used to be a tax place or something a few buildings down from its orginal location. The space is less than half the orginal size there is no space no private women's section. Half the equipment gone and whats left does not work properly. I have tried to cancel my subscription for 2 months. Paramount Acceptance does their billing they have given me the run around. They tell me I have email them to cancel I cant do it over the phone and proceed to give me an email thats incorrect. The email wont go thru. So I went directly to their website and filed a complaint their and stated I wanted to cancel. I havent heard anything back as of yet. This used to be an awesome gym but is gone downhill so bad I have no choice but to find someone else.

Okay it is a trap and the manager is very rude. As soon as he hear that I want to cancel my membership, he gave me a phone number and hung up the phone so quick that I don’t even have a chance to write it down. This place is horrible. If you want to hate everything about fitness and going to the gym then go to this place. They will charge you twice and offer you the worst service ever. The contract was to pay 50$ per month for a personal trainer which was always late and quit coming half way through our contract. They never hired someone else and half of the sessions are not done. To make things worse, I paid the first month by credit card and the next 2 months in cash and the company still tries to withdraw the money from the card with late fees!!! The manager says he called them and cleared my balance and they say no one contacted them. Waste of time, money and energy!

The gym is RARELY cleaned!! Floors/benches/machines/cardio equipment may be cleaned once every couple of weeks if that. I use to see a staff member cleaning the men's bathroom and gym floor every weekday morning, but no more. The men's bathroom is filthy. One of the shower doors has been broken for months AND it has been brought to their attention multiple times. There is mold in the showers, and the toilets are usually absolutely disgusting. Several machines have been broken for months. Dumbbells/benches/plates are scattered throughout the gym and rarely in the correct place. There is very little gym etiquette when it comes to cleaning after yourself, and employees don't enforce the "rules". You get what you pay for.

I hate the day I stepped foot into this gym. Not only do their trainers lie and take your money under false contract...the general manager Mark is as well very rude and does not understand the importance of following up. After paying for more membership for a year, the established contract with the trainer was not honored. I requested my money back and had not utilized the gym in anyway. Mark Davis failed to follow up with me after several attempts to retain my refund. He lied as well in saying he was working on the issue and even hung up in my face after 3 weeks of receiving the run around. He stated he did not do anything to me but your trainer did, and being a manager he should understand he needed to take ownership of the issue. DO NOT USE THIS GYM. NOT ONLY ARE THEY LIARS WHO DO NOT KEEP THEIR WORD THEY ARE JUST OUT TO STEAL YOUR MONEY.

Worst payment company ever!!! The gym is decent and has everything one really needs, but they use a third party payment company called Paramount Acceptance that is absolutely horrible. I am a UAB student and only needed to use the gym from April-August so once August hit I called to cancel my membership, Riviera than directed me to call Paramount Acceptance to cancel, which I did. So upon calling Paramount they go through there laundry list of things to allow you to cancel, which I complied with. The final step is emailing them because they need written proof of cancelation (yeah I know, its BS) so I emailed them and everything seemed to be good. Well a couple days ago I received a piece of mail from a collections company requesting that I send them $165 for back pay on membership and fees for cancellation before they take me to court. So I called Paramount and they proceed to claim that they never received my email and that I have to pay for every month of membership from the time I cancelled in August until this month. I wouldn't take shelter from a tornado in this gym let alone become a member this upcoming summer. So my advice to you is do not become a member at this gym, it may seem nice, but the idiots they have collecting money for them are a walking argument for birth control.

ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH IT! The gym is ok, but the billing company that they choose to associate themselves with, Paramount Acceptance, is going to ALWAYS be a dark stain on this company. It is not only a headache to try and cancel, but a maze full of lies about how much you even owe just to cancel. Don't do it to yourself. The gym may be decent, but if you decide to move on from them, expect them to not let go of your taking your money without a fight.

It's a cheap gym. You get what you pay for with the lack of cleanliness, the worm out equipment, general staleness, and clueless trainers (I didn't hire one; just annoying to see them take money from customers not benefiting from their services). No one there cares about doing their job, which also comes with a cheap gym membership. After I joined I never received a gym card even though I requested one multiple times. I was stopped and informed I couldn't return to the gym without a scan card as though it were my fault I didn't have one and they somehow had the right to refuse entrance to a paying member. After an enraged phone call someone finally figured out the issue and issued me a card that day.

There $25 cancellation fee they don't tell you about. They also don't check with you befitting re-upping your "contract" for another year, which means unless you catch it then you will inevitably have to pay the fee. It will end up costing you $40-$60 to cancel your membership and you will have to wait on hold at their call center only to be told you have to email someone only to be told if they don't process your cancellation in time then they will just charge you for an extra month as though it's your fault they can't do their jobs in a timely manner.

If you want to be a cheap, crap gym that's fine; but If you're going to be a cheap, crap gym then accept your mediocrity and stop resorting to shady, misleading business practices.

Very friendly staff, plenty of equipment. Other than just not taking the time to go, it was a good experience. Until, that is, I decided to cancel my membership and experienced first hand their highly deceptive business practices.

They don't tell you this at all when you sign up, but if you cancel your membership they will charge you a $25 cancellation fee ON TOP of requiring you to pay the following month ON TOP of paying the extra month for a "30 day notice". So from the time you call to cancel, expect it to cost $65 right then out of pocket. And it will be a headache of email correspondence to complete the process. Just another crooked company. And they use a separate billing company to do their dirty work, not giving a care in the world about you because they have no reason to. The get paid either way.

★ 1

I felt so strongly for this gym that I thought it deserved my first review on google. If I had the option to rate this place at 0 stars, that'd be it.

Let me start with the gym itself. It's not too shabby but the equipment is not the best either. It's cheap, so you get what you pay for. The restrooms and bath areas are mostly terrible. I've seen unflushed toilets on a daily basis when I used to go there. The weights are fairly dirty from all the use, so I recommend you use gloves. Finally, the guy who'll meet you at the door - Joe - seems a fairly nice guy and will enroll you into a membership, but more on him later.

Now, here's the catch with the gym. Don't be fooled by how cheap it is. They WILL screw you over when you want to leave. Riviera and their billing company, Paramount Acceptance, are out to deceive customers and grab your money behind your back. Apparently, when you sign up for your membership, you enter into a "contract". Good guy Joe never told me about this contract and that when you decide to cancel, you will be charged a $25 cancellation fee. That's fine, but $25 to cancel? Why was I not told this? Secondly, I was also told later when I wanted to cancel that my cancellation request has to be done in WRITING, and be sent to an email address that you can get only by calling Paramount and waiting in their call center queue.

On top of that, they will also charge you an additional month's membership fee when you decide to cancel because your cancellation request has to have a "30 day notice". Good guy Joe did not inform me of this as well. So I basically ended up losing a fair amount of money because of unfair and deceitful billing practices that I was not informed about.

Don't be fooled by good guy Joe and Riviera's seemingly economical membership. You're better off at another gym. Even probably Gold's. Riviera and Paramount will screw you over as they did me and two of my friends when we decided to join another gym.

When I started going to the gym, I enjoyed it. The staff and set up of the gym was very nice. The price was very appealing, but unfortunately, it is also misleading. I chose to go with the autopay and the staff member who set up my account failed to mention that I would be under a "contract". I called paramount acceptance and they informed that the gym sent in a contract electronically and they asked if the contract was read to me, and NO it wasn't even mentioned. The staff member had me under the impression that if I wanted to go each month then I would just have to make sure I paid for that month, and if I didn't pay for that month then I wouldn't be able to go. So with that being said, I now have a balance that I refuse to pay because I didn't know about this "CONTRACT" and I didn't even go to the gym for the months they are charging me!

I JOINED THIS HOMEWOOD LOCATION IN JANUARY 2015, BEFORE I USED TO GO TO 24E FITNESS IN HOOVER ALABAMA, ALTHOUGH I LIVE IN HOMEWOOD, IN THE beginning i had negative thoughts about this gym that it would be overcrowded and people may not working out here, but surprisingly when i joined it , my views changed, normally i go in the morning from 8 a.m to 1 p.m, there is plenty of space and i can focus more on workout, no body bothers me and people do their serious workout, in 24e hoover there were useless trainers and girls over there and guys used to come just to talk loud and show off, but at Riviera fitness , they do serious workouts and also trainers make them do their workouts instead of talking and looking at other members, except few members who come during the weekend and talk loud, also there is less distraction, in 24e fitness hoover it was a horrible experience, i was the only one used to lift 700 to 800 lbs and others they just used to stare at me, and girls over there were very funny just used to talk loud and looking at people, trainers at 24e fitness were also useless. so i really like this gym except if they r open 24 hrs and during the weekend.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR PERSONAL TRAINING! The guy who explained the personal training to me had me under the impression that the contract was "At Will". IT IS NOT! After an undetermined amount of time, which I was also not told about, you can't get out of your contract unless you have a medical reason, you move, or you leave for college or the military. That is complete crap. Financially, lots of things have piled up on me rather suddenly and I am trying to cut costs where I can, and personal training is not necessary for me. It was strictly to maintain, and for fun. However, I can't afford it anymore, but I can't get out of the contract and save that money. My only other option is to stretch the contract so that the payments aren't as high, but I don't want to even train anymore. With all this BS I'm never stepping foot in there again. Complete crap.

I really enjoyed the gym itself, the staff was always really nice and there is a lot of cardio and weight equipment. The only thing missing from the gym itself was a stretching area.
HOWEVER, the membership policy is very misleading. They tout their no-contract $15/month, saying you can cancel anytime no problem. What they don't tell you is that there is a 30-day written notice required (so you end up paying for another month) AND there is a $25 cancellation fee. If they had mentioned that when I signed up so I wasn't blindsided that would have been great.

I LOVE my gym. I've lost 35 lbs and I attribute that success to my diet and the fabulous instructors that work here. There are plenty of gyms in the area to pick from, but this gym builds relationships and cares about it's clients. I can't say enough about. Their group fitness is offered at great times and BodyPump, Combat, Attack, & Step are the BEST. Personal training us offered and Sue & Tiffany are AWESOME. Come in here and change your life!
