First time dropping into The Yard Gym Birmingham and was an awesome experience. The Yard was one of the cleanest gyms I’ve ever dropped into in the country, and I do this all the time because I travel for work.
Michael and Tori (the owners) encouraged everyone in attendance for the workout and there were various levels of fitness in the class.
Jim the class instructor explained the lifts and technique throughly.
The two 21 min blocks were killer workouts for a Saturday.
Five Stars for sure. Would recommend the gym to anyone locally or drop ins from out of town.

I moved here from Texas recently with friends from residency. The Yard has combined the best amount of camaraderie and intense/fun workouts. It keeps us accountable as physicians and makes it fun to show up and put out.

4 months and about 100 classes in and I am so happy with my results at the Yard - feeling healthier, stronger, leaner, and the workouts never get boring. A+ coaches that encourage and challenge me while making a welcoming and safe gym environment for all levels! Variety of class times makes it easy to fit workouts into a busy schedule.

The Yard Gym Birmingham is hands-down the best gym in Birmingham. It’s the perfect mix of strength and cardio—especially if you love Olympic lifting paired with high-intensity cardio workouts. Best gym I’ve ever trained at. The Yard Gym makes it easy to get your weight training in while also building a solid cardio base—it’s the perfect balance. The Yard Gym is an incredible place to train! What sets it apart is the emphasis on functional training. Every workout challenges both strength and aerobic/anaerobic fitness in a way that feels purposeful and well thought out. The best gym experience I’ve had in Birmingham. Pristine facility, top-tier coaches, and incredibly supportive community.
The flexibly to choose between strength- or conditioning-focused exercises each session is an awesome and underrated option among class-based gyms.
Owners Michael and Tori have a wealth of experience in fitness and health — so much so that Michael has even authored a book on the topics! They are invaluable resources to have around at your gym.
But the camaraderie of the gym may be my favorite part. You get supported before, during, and after every workout. The whole gym (members included) want you to get healthy, stay healthy, and reach all your other fitness goals along the way. Highly recommend.

Been coming here for about two months and it has been an incredible experience. I only did strength training for several years which led to pain and stagnancy. After my time at The Yard, I have no pain, am in better shape, and still maintained the strength I had before. I feel like I have unlocked my body to reach its true potential. I’ve been working with Michael for 3 months and according to my Dexa scan I have lost 8lbs of fat and gained 12lbs of MUSCLE! And I can see my body changing. I am in my 40’s and I haven’t felt this good in a long time. Michael put me through the yard programming even before it opened and it is paying dividends! I joined this gym just before my birthday, not just for the workouts but because something felt aligned, and it was.
The community is unmatched. People cheer you on, spot you when you need it (physically and emotionally), and push you to be stronger. Even on upper body day 😅.
One of the owners has a background in physical therapy, which brings so much intentionality to how we train and grow, inside and out.
This isn’t just fitness. It’s alignment. And that kind of connection accelerates real growth.

I am in my 30s and have been dealing with lower back pain for a long time. I have not been able to consistently workout without irritating it for years now. I sat down with Michael and Tori, owners of THE YARD GYM and they knew exactly what I had been going through. I signed up on the spot and have been consistently training 4+ times per week with no pain, all while making tons of progress. The facilities and equipment are excellent, but the best part are the coaches and the community they create. Don’t hesitate to give it a try!
