We loved the course nice greens and fairways but first time playing 4 people. Had a single and a twosome behind us so let them through and then the Marshall informed us we were 12 minutes behind we explained we let a couple groups through and then he came back around to tell us we were behind again a few holes later. Nothing like that to ruin a game. We finished in exactly 4 hours so not playing slow. We were told it would be 4 hours and 10 minutes.

Absolutely beautiful course. They set tee times every 8-9 minutes. I've never seen so many people on a course. At one point we were stopped by the course Marshall and he told us we were 12 minutes off pace, we were playing faster than I've ever played. I skipped putts, skipped shots, and at one point we skipped a hole (which I've never done) I could not enjoy myself because of how rushed we were. You can tell they are about booking as many tee times as possible and that's it.

One of the worst golfing experiences I’ve had lately. Granted I was a couple minutes late to my tee time, but had made up for it as I was 10 min ahead of pace of play thru 3. Marshall came and asked me to skip the 4th hole because of a Junior Tournament. Offered to let me play the first 3 holes again but still poor course management The main issue was the back 9. Skipped the last two holes because pace of play. Caught up to another group on the tee 5 holes in a row.

I enjoy nothing more than hitting the golf course with my family, and Timberline did not disappoint. Growing up in Kansas, I played from the men’s tees (because let’s be honest—no one wants to hear, “You only won because you played the ladies’ tees”). 😄

This course is absolutely beautiful—every hole was scenic, peaceful, and just challenging enough to keep you focused but still let you enjoy the game. I haven’t played in a while, and though I only managed two pars and a few over, I held my own and barely lost to my husband (played from the ladies’ tees... for now 😉).

The food from the Bar & Grill was delicious—I highly recommend grabbing a bite before or after your round! The only thing I missed was a cart gal or guy making rounds—it was hot, and this thirsty golfer was dreaming of a cold drink mid-game. Maybe next time!

P.S. Don’t think the recent rain will slow down your putts. The greens still rolled quick! And my son Tucker, who works at Timberline, destroyed me on the course... but in his own sweet way said, “You actually surprised me with your game today, Mom.” That made the whole day even better.

This course has the potential to be great, but recent changes in management or policy seem to be prioritizing quantity over quality, to the detriment of the player experience. Our recent visit was marred by several issues, beginning with a very rude encounter in the pro shop. The employee seemed aggressive and mean, setting a negative tone for our round.
Furthermore, despite arriving fifteen minutes before our tee time to warm up on the range, we were immediately rushed by the starter, who insisted we tee off. We then had to wait for the group ahead of us, only to be approached by a marshall before we even left the tee box, urging us to hurry. This constant pressure made for an incredibly stressful and unenjoyable round. As a long-time member, I've grown accustomed to a certain level of rushed play, but my guest from Montgomery, who were looking forward to a relaxing game, was completely bewildered and disappointed by the aggressive pace enforcement.
It feels as though tee times are being overbooked, leading to an overly aggressive approach to pace of play that sacrifices customer satisfaction. I hope the course re-evaluates its operational strategy to ensure a more welcoming and enjoyable environment for all golfers.

I played in a tournament day the course was in MUCH better shape,I couldn't believe how different it was today. Staff still friendly and helpful.The greens were slower,fairways pretty good and the course layout is what I like most about Timberline.

I just moved here and joined this club. Very nice course and picturesque. The staff is very friendly. If you come and play here let me give you a heads up. These greens are fast. Don't want you to turn a birdie putt on the first green into a boogie.

Green mowers must be broken. Was told they aerated a month ago. No signs of aeration but like putting on a tee box. Green speed is not worth the $90 they charge.

Booked a tee time a couple days in advance. Was excited to play a new course, but was unable to play due to the shortage of carts at timberline. I booked a solo tee time (4 spots available when booking) and brought a paid rider as I would be riding alone anyways and was told the rider had to leave for me to play. Meanwhile 8 carts were stacked on the first tee box multiple with only singles in the cart. The website nor the tee time booking stated any restrictions with riders, definitely will not be visiting timberline again any time soon.

Also, for the cost of timberline and condition, you are much better off playing any RTJ course. With a trail card you’ll save money and play a much nicer course

Very nice course. Well maintained and the driving range and carts were some of the nicer ones I have seen. We got put with 2 other golfers and they were super friendly. The pace of play was a bit fast because we had to hit so many balls haha. Greens looked great.

Our family has had dozens of mini-reunions (varying from 25 to 40 attendes) at the Timberline clubhouse over the last couple of decades, most recently this morning. We always do a breakfast buffet. Today was definitely a disappointment compared to previous gatherings. Food took forever to be set up, was cold, and there were no beverages. But, the woman working there was trying to handle everything herself. I don't know if it's a staffing problem or what. But I couldn't, in good conscience, recommend it.

Paid $62 on a Monday to play course that is missing half of its fringes, and a few fairways. Greens were good considering they were just aerated. This is a $70 course when it’s in normal condition. Right now that isn’t the case.

Golf course is not in good condition. For the money paid you would have higher expectations. On top of that we ended up playing for over 5-hours due to groups ahead of us playing 5 and six people and when you called the clubhouse asking for a marshal to speed up play, no one showed up. Definitely a poor experience.

This course is over rated and poorly maintained. The greens are eat up with poa annua and a lot of the fringe is no grass at all ….. not manicured at all. It’s noted on the pin sheet they expect 4 hour rounds but yet when called 3-4 times for a group of 5 and a group of 6 playing ahead of the group in front of us they did absolute nothing…. After todays 5:45 min round I would not consider playing here again. No help from anyone and the course quality is poor.

Worst value in Alabama. Payed $80 to play in standing water on every fairway. Worst drainage anywhere near Birmingham. Where there wasn’t water, there was no grass. I understand it is winter, but you can play a much better quality round for quite literally half the price at multiple courses around the area. If your course is unplayable, you should close it for the day. I’ve been playing here for ten years but this was the nail in the coffin. I will not be back here again.

Top notch public course and amenities! Course difficulty matches the same level fun factor: A LOT. This gem has beautiful manicured fairways and super soft, bouncy greens. Tons of elevation changes; careful tee shot placement; and a solid approach game will all come to play on this course. RTJ has some competition!

Me and a friend played Sunday May 9th and weren't impressed with the greens. I bragged to him how nice the course was the last time I played a few months ago. We drove from Tuscaloosa so we could play a nice track and wasn't warned at arrival that the greens were in really bad shape.

I can’t give enough positive praise to Liesel and her staff in the Food and Beverage department at the Timberline Golf Club. I made one initial call to inquire about a reception following my Father’s funeral on 3-13-2020. Once I conveyed the preliminary details and let her know i was planning everything from Texas, Liesel assured me that I no longer needed to spend my time fretting about the reception, as I had so many other things to take care of for the funeral. She literally handled every detail for me and created a beautiful environment and a delicious buffet for our family and friends. We were all welcomed with open arms and kind words. The experience could not have been better. Thanks so much.

Had a tee time yesterday but we were running late and called pro shop to let them know. Casey in the pro shop couldn’t have been nicer. He fit us in when we were ready to play. They were having an outing as well so they were very busy.

I've been wanting to play this course for a while now but it never worked out when I was in the Birmingham area. I finally was able to play today. Unfortunately with all the rain they've gotten in the area recently the course was very wet, cart path only. I enjoyed the course but I'm sure I would have enjoyed it much more if it had been dry. The staff was very courteous and helpful. I will play again.

Great golf course, the clubhouse is beautiful. We've had a couple of company functions here, a golf tournament and our annual Christmas luncheon, and each time it was very enjoyable. The staff are polite and accommodating, and everyone thought the place was gorgeous.

One of, if not the best public course in the state of Alabama. It is always in great shape and the greens in the Winter time are perfect. Very challenging from every set of tees and four of the five par 3's are the toughest around. Practice facility is top notch, with bunkers, 3 greens and plenty of fresh grass to hit from. Don't skip lunch either. The food is a little pricey but the quality and service match the price.

This course is a step above the rest. The greens are well kept and the layout is challenging. It's one of the best courses in Birmingham! The food is delicious too! I would have given a five star rating except I was kindly asked by the management to hurry my play for the golf course members behind me because they called the clubhouse complaining. We weren't even playing slow we had to wait at one hole for 2 minutes and the members group had to wait too. Apparently if you're a member you get preferential treatment even if you've paid to play.
