I began adult classes here in 2018 as a way to get more active and really enjoy the confidence I gained. Mr. Rodriguez pushes us to do our best, but in an encouraging way. I enjoyed it so much that my husband began going (now a 1st degree black belt), then our oldest niece started (now a 1st degree black belt), and our younger niece attended as well. As soon as our daughter turns 3 she will attend too. Mr. Rodriguez is extremely knowledgeable and continues furthering his taekwondo skills.

In reference to TKD USA Prattville, I’ve decided I’m not going to post the videos of other instances and how he spoke to my THREE year old son because there are other children in the videos, but these pictures will show you a grown man who felt it necessary to grab my son by the collar bone in order to turn him around then proceed to grab him by both biceps to put him back in the spot he was supposed to be in. I have never moved another human in that manner in my entire life. He told me that since the other THREE year old in the class could stay in their spot that Miles should be able to too. You can see Miles’ head hanging low the entire time.

Midway through the class, as they were moving on to the next set of activities and he fist bumps all the other kids(ages ranging from 3-9ish, although I signed him up for ages 3-5?) but then skips Miles and moves on. Seems insignificant at face value, but imagine 5 or 6 kids and their parents sitting across the room watching and my THREE year old child asking “Mr Karate” why he didn’t get to fist bump. He finishes off the class with letting all of the kids climb this foam tube thing up onto a foam type wall. Which to the kids is the fun thing to do. He again, leaves him out without any inclination he’s about to be. Then felt it necessary to grab Miles by the wrist and myself and all the parents hear my THREE year old son say “why are you breaking my bones”. He kept yelling at him throughout the night if Miles quit doing the set they were on and was being goofy or just being a THREE YEAR OLD and had him on a countdown and “if I get to 3 it means you’re out and by out I mean GONE!”. Miles responds with a scared look on his face “no im not 2 I’m 3 years old”(in his THREE YEAR OLD manner) because he heard some numbers and related it to his age like any THREE YEAR OLD WOULD DO. I quickly grab our things and try to get his shoes on as fast as I can and he just had this evil cold look in his eyes as he joyfully yelled “BYE MILES!” and he cried his way out of TKD USA Prattville. I recorded nearly all thirty minutes of his time there, and nothing absolutely nothing he did was deserving of the way he treated my THREE YEAR OLD SON.

Yes, I understand the concept of discipline. I understand not being rewarded for not listening. I could go on to justify myself in how Miles is a great, loving, smart child because he is, but I don’t feel it necessary to.

Originally, I wanted to explain publicly from start to finish all of the signs I should’ve listened to all the way to the 9PM phone call from the man himself, where he placed blame on myself and my THREE YEAR OLD son, and spoke to me as if I was absolute trash—but it’s just too much to try and type out. I’m sharing this in hopes it can help another mother or father in preventing this unnecessary nonsense happening to their THREE YEAR OLD CHILD.

I don’t know how he is with the older kids. He may be the best instructor of all time to them, and that’s great for them. But I know how my THREE YEAR OLD SON was treated and I know it was not okay.

Owner is rough and cruel to young children. If you have a three year old absolutely do not send them here. The owner was condescending and amused when concern was expressed by the parent. Would rate 0 stars if possible. Threatened to kick a 3 year old out in-front of the whole class for not immediately doing exactly what he said after only a few 30 min sessions. Singled him out and did not fist bump him after fist bumping every other child. And then did not let him climb the wall after every other child. Never expressed any problems with the parent just took it out on the child. Remind you this 3 year old is not a bad behaved child the owner is just not patient in the slightest and for someone teaching discipline and boundaries seems to lack those himself.

Unprofessional. Rough. Cruel. Impatient. Would not recommend for young children.

Mr. R is an excellent instructor. He has a great rapport with his students; structure, encouragement, discipline, and fun. Both of my children have become more confident since they began the program. The adult program is also great. My kids encouraged me to give it a try and I love it too. Highly recommend!

Mr. Rodriguez is awesome with the kids! I couldn't imagine my daughter being at any other place. He has fun with the kids and makes learning Karate fun but also keeps them in line and instills discipline. It is also a great price for all the hours that we can attend. Look forward to a long adventure here.
