About the Club

We're a results driven personal training team with a mission to empower our clients to realize their innate abilities by providing an environment that educates, nurtures, and inspires. BodyBasics has been in business for over 25 years and has been awarded one of the top 3 personal training facilities in Northwest Tucson by the Northwest Explorer for the last 8 years in a row! Our clients are referred to us by their doctors, physical therapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, and by those who love them dearly like family, co-workers, and friends.

BodyBasics lives for the daily opportunities to serve others and personal training just happens to be the vehicle within which that can happen. We LOVE supporting change in our client's lives.

I highly recommend Body Basics! My orthopedic doctor referred me to Body Basics so they could help me put together an exercise plan to address my hypermobility. I appreciate the two hours that Chris spent to determine the extent of my hypermobility and the knowledge he shared on how important stability is for an older adult. Jake, my personal trainer at Body Basics, was wonderful to work with and I learned so much from him, especially self-awareness on what muscles should be engaged for various exercises and how to breathe properly to engage and strengthen my core. This is a wonderful place for the older adult to get an assessment of their abilities and needs in physical health. This is a great place with passionate trainers helping clients get into good physical condition without getting hurt. The start-up period may be a little slow for somebody who has been working with good trainers elsewhere, but this is still good as you may not have been well-trained or trained at all. If you are going to workout, it's important to do it correctly so you don't get hurt as this is antithetical to why you are working out!

I can’t say enough about BodyBasics! Chris and his staff are top notch. I am constantly amazed at the professionalism, knowledge and creativity that goes into each session to help me feel my best . I love to be super active but I have scoliosis so my curved back does not function like most backs . I walk away from each session feeling strong, balanced and pain free. I went and saw Chris Litten for the first time this week, on the advice of a few friends including a general practice physician. I have been working out on my own with home equipment for a year and a half and felt like my workouts and progress were getting a little stale. Working out at home works best for me, but I knew I needed help in getting the most out of my workout regimen and equipment.

In my first session Chris helped me with technique and workout design. I cannot wait to try out his advice and adjust my workouts accordingly. He gave me a lot of advice on how to choose exercises so they are balanced and then we worked a lot on form, we also reconfigured my workouts.

I have a new excitement for keeping in shape and am looking forward to my next session in a few weeks to see how I am applying what I learned. I am already thinking of family members and friends to refer to BodyBasics!

I have been with BodyBasics for a year now, both working with a personal trainer and attending workout classes. My experience has been fantastic. I'm 69 years old and had been losing mobility for the previous five years due to arthritis and my aging spine. This was especially difficult since I had been an avid backpacker and hiker. Multiple referrals to Physical Therapy helped but always failed a few months after ending treatment.
Through the knowledgeable and gentle guidance of my trainer Amanda at BodyBasics I am very pleased to say that I am now feeling great and hiking again! (6 miles and 900 foot elevation hike at Zion last week for example!) I worked one-on-one with Amanda at first, and she helped me strengthen muscles and taught me to avoid movements which were damaging. Over time I morphed from twice a week one-on-one to twice a week classes that I continue today. I highly recommend BodyBasics!

Body Basics has been a much needed resource for me for several years. I have taken their Foundations class twice a week to work on balance and strength. I'm convinced their exercises and feedback have helped me to avoid falling and retain mobility which are extremely valuable in my late 70s. Being able to take the classes virtually during pandemic and continue with them on zoom from my summer home in Vermont has been a real plus. The trainers are knowledgable and fun to work with. Body Basics provides the best personal training I've ever had - and I've tried a number of trainers. Chris Litten, the owner, has established an atmosphere that is professional, comfortable, and fun. He knows all of the clients by name and what they're working toward. All of the trainers at Body Basics are excellent - their knowledge about training and the human body is exceptional.

Individual workouts are customized to meet your goals. I also like the small group training. Once I strained a muscle and called Chris to say I couldn't come to group. He encouraged me to come anyway and they would substitute some of the exercises just for me so I wouldn't get hurt and I didn't have to miss my exercise. This worked out very well.

Through training at Body Basics I am stronger, more flexible, and my balance has improved. Highly recommended.

I have been a client of BodyBasics since mid-November, and they have helped me tremendously. I have been an active hiker/backpacker all my life but now at age 68 I am afflicted with age-related spine and joint pain. My trainer, Amanda, is highly knowledgeable and is training me to understand my body and how I can work out to rebuild flexibility and strength without pain. This is beyond the help I've received in the past from Physical Therapy where I was treated, and helped, for specific problems. I found that one problem helped was always temporary. My concerns about visiting a gym during Covid were high, but BodyBasics keeps numbers low and cleans continually. I highly recommend this group.

As a person with a history of serious orthopedic injury, it was of the utmost importance that I find a trainer with a thorough understanding of body mechanics. The trainers at Body Basics are highly skilled. Further, they care deeply about their clients and are invested in their progress. When Body Basics had to close its physical doors, due to the pandemic, Chris transitioned to a virtual training platform that works so well, it is easy to forget what an enormous challenge he faced. Recently, I overheard a contractor who is doing work on my house (he is probably in his early 50s) bragging to another worker about still doing squats but also complaining about not being able to do squats as deep as when he was younger. Without thinking about it, I asked him if he wanted to see me do a squat, and I dropped into a deep squat. The contractor was stunned. Really, I continue to be stunned that I am able to do deep squats. Before beginning to workout with Chris at Body Basics, I had not done a squat in over 15 years.

In February of 2020, I heard about BodyBasics from two sources. Jon Davison, a physical therapist at Borden Physical Therapy, highly recommended BodyBasics. A longtime BodyBasics client, also spoke highly of her experience at Body Basics. Although I had only had a few sessions with Chris before gyms were closed because of COVID-19, Chris’s ability to quickly pivot and provide on-line training kept me motivated to continue working with him.

When I started at BodyBasics, I just wanted to feel better. I wanted to have a more positive attitude about aging. The week before Thanksgiving 2019, I had lost my balance and fell stepping down a step that I had stepped down a thousand times. I broke the fifth metatarsal on my right foot. By the end of February 2020, I really had not moved much for eight weeks. After I completed a round of physical therapy, I wanted to keep working out in order to improve my balance and strength. Also, over the past few years, I had gained weight and had been struggling to lose the weight.

Since I began training with Chris at BodyBasics in early March, my balance has significantly improved. I turned 65 in August, but feel like I am in the best shape of my life. My balance has significantly improved. I have also lost over 25 pounds. I have not been on a strict diet—I have simply put Chris’s coaching on good nutrition as a top priority.

When gyms were closed, working out with Chris on-line helped me get through my feeling of being isolated as a result of COVID-19. I work out with Chris twice a week. I also work out alone three or four other times during the week doing the exercises I have learned at BodyBasics.

Chris’s attention to detail, tailoring exercise regimens unique to each client’s needs, is truly amazing. Working out with Chris is the true meaning of “taking care of yourself.”

Although I was reluctant at first, I have now increased my sessions to 3 times a week with Xavier. I started at Body Basics in early March after seeing the results my wife obtained, both physically and mentally. Shortly after starting, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, I had to make a decision to continue trainings remotely via Zoom. Although skeptical at first, Chris and team made the experience seamless. I went to Body Basics for core strengthening at the recommendation of my doctor because I had severe mid-back pain. The whole staff was very nice and helpful. My trainer, Aaron, started out with very simple exercises that progressed as I got stronger. If you are looking for a personal trainer, this is the place to go. Chris was able to see that a big part of my hip issue stemmed from the fact that I was walking in a way to avoid the pain caused by arthritis in the big toe joint. While there was more involved, of course, with a good workout schedule and now conciously aware of how I am walking, I am doing great.

I've had 2 appointments here and am glad I found this place. The facility is nice and clean. The owner, Chris, is great to work with. You can tell he has a passion for helping people achieve optimal fitness levels. I liked that there is no pressure here to do "buy-ups" and I felt comfortable with the plan provided to me. A big plus is that it isn't a meathead type of facility where you here lots of grunting and weights dropping to the floor.

Many different levels of training to choose from.
Equipment is available at no fee. You pay only for the classes you attend.
If you are scheduled for a class but don't attend, there is no charge. They do appreciate a phone call ahead of time as it may affect their manpower needs.

I have been working with BodyBasics trainers for 10 years. After an adulthood with little exercise, regular was a welcome shock to my system. Balance was a major problem that I faced and the trainers worked hard to help. I’ve been attending morning workout classes for the last 8 years. They work on the whole body and concentrate on our core.
Five years ago, I learned I needed a new hip. BodyBasics worked overtime to make sure I was in my best possible shape before surgery. After surgery, they worked closely with my physical therapist to speed up my recovery. Even my surgeon was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly my body recovered. BadyBasics was chiefly responsible for that and I’m always grateful. They know what they’re doing and it shows when I see many other clients doing things they didn’t believe possible.

Body Basics has changed our lives! My husband and I started training almost a year ago. My husband has balance issues and being able to hike without falls is important to both of us. After two months of training my husband was able to hike for two hours with NO balance issues. It was very exciting! I have struggled with back pain from scoliosis for my entire adult life. Body Basics is the very first gym I've attended where FORM and STABILITY are critical. This has made all the difference. The trainers don't just stand around and count your reps while you do them badly (as with other gyms). They are actively involved in every exercise and watch to make sure your body position is correct. I've been going to a gym for almost 40 years now and this is the first time I've really learned how to exercise for MY body. The staff are better trained than anywhere I've ever been and they are cool people too! I highly recommend Body Basics if you need help with pain or balance issues. They can help!
