This place is awesome I really recommend coming here and enrolling it is very fun and educational. Its good for finding friends and building a community. The teachers are very efficient with their class choice. The black belt helpers are very fun to talk to and start a conversation with. The owners are very helpful and attentive. When asking for assistance they get to it fairly quickly. I'm in the leadership and legacy program, it has helped me a lot with my leadership skills, I have more confidence and know to listen better to the adults and overall people around me. They use games to teach the students valuable life lesson like communication, perseverance, self-esteem, listening skills and thinking outside the box. And they teach life skills every cycle and that really impacts the kids to do well at school and at home. I have no complaints its an awesome academy. I recommend this to everyone, kids and adults.

This facility all around has been great! My son has been taking TKD classes for almost a year and he/we enjoy it so much. Master Hill does a great job of running this facility and she’s a top notch instructor. The combat aspect is awesome but the morals, leadership other things they teach also take it over the top!

My son likes to be at Lee's ATA Martial Arts, and I like how all colored belts students help each other in groups. He has fun and, Mr. Flores works so well with the little ones that it shows they have fun at the same time they learn discipline and also with the older kids, and Master Hill, also makes it fun for all ages of kids.

Lee's ATA on Guadalupe and Rural road has been an incredible experience for my son over the past year. The positive impact on his self-esteem, discipline, and respect has been remarkable. We've referred numerous friends to this practice, confident in the benefits they'll receive. Our experiences have been consistently positive, and we wholeheartedly recommend Lee's ATA to anyone seeking martial arts training. Thanks for everything!

Signed my 6 year old up on his birthday, 3 months ago. His confidence and discipline have skyrocketed since starting. Being in the tiger program, he joined in the middle of a 10 week course. This did not affect his learning. He was grouped with kids his age, of all karate levels. Intimidating at first, but helps the more experienced kids see their growth by helping newer students. Parents should not expect to drop and go, get involved! If you try the Groupon first, use it completely.

We LOVE Tempe ATA! We found them two years ago at Geek’s Night Out and my daughter has been obsessed ever since. She takes as many classes as she can each week and loves competing at tournaments. They create a place of belonging and community that is hard to find anywhere else. Such a great place for kids to learn discipline, responsibility and honor in a fun environment.

I had signed up for lessons for my daughter. When I came in for the lesson. They had no clue who we were and it was super chaotic. They threw my daughter into a class with students who had already been training. She had no clue what to do and was beyond embarrassed. She ran out crying. My daughter refuses to take any classes in this type of capacity again due to the experience. This place is horrible. Despite the experience they continued to reach out, trying to get our business, I had to eventually block their number and email. I have never experienced such chaos and unprofessionalism, McDonald's is run better than this place.

We feel like this place had no structure and no discipline when it comes to teaching children about respect ✊ And on a note 📝 Mrs.Hill I would disagree with the way you handled me pulling my son out giving you our 60 days notice…there was no reason for you to be upset 😠 or should I have felt like I have done something wrong…People will come and go that’s just the way life goes wish them well and be professional about it!

Originally I had a good review on here because I believed that it was doing good for my son as you see in the pictures. My son got into too much trouble at school after paying $1,440 dollars for an entire year! We decided to put the account on hold. He has not attended any classes. I asked for a refund, and was told they do not do refunds when paid in full. I was also told that I would get a call from the owner have not at all recieved that said call. Regardless if I pay for a service and decide to cancel that service I should get my $1,440 back! Cancelation policy stated in the beginning was 60 days before you receive any refund. So now that is being retracted. Not only is it being retracted but also have not received any kind of confirmation that the account was canceled. I am extremely displeased with the rudeness I have recieved and the money I am now out because my son decided he did not want to continue. Personally, if you want to be out a lot of money, this is the place to go. But I would avoid ANY ATA and place your money at another martial arts place that will do much better at teaching your child.

I wanted to get my daughter started in martial arts, learning, discipline, self defense, respect, having a schedule in addition to our normal schedule, keep her active, etc. This is a great place for all of those things and more. Ms. Hill is a great instructor, everyone there is great in helping people learn regardless of age. I personally have no complaints and am grateful for the sense of community and learning they provide.

Great location and staff! We were transferred here after South location closed down due to COVID. Ms. Hill made the process easy and quick. My son transitioned easily, and felt comfortable quickly thanks to their friendly, kind instructors. He progressed and continued earning his Tiger belts even through the Zoom classes, and is moving on to the older kids class next cycle.

Received a flyer from my sons elementary school which I thought was good deal. On the first day for what they say was a 1:1 lesson I should of walked away when they just placed him on the floor expecting him to know what he was doing with the other kids and with little to no guidance my son felt out of place so we left. Next day received a text asking if we wanted to try again. Came in and was introduced properly after expressing our concerns. They then mentioned we can try it out for 2 weeks for $20 to see if my son would like it. Between those 2 weeks we purchased all the equipment and uniform. We wanted to sign up officially and mentioned we received a flyer from his school AGAIN which was for summer classes. They acted like they did not know what I was talking about and pressured me into signing up for a very expensive year contract. I said I only wanted summer classes they now denied the flyer “because we can only use one promotion” and we used it on the 2 weeks. They do not know how to communicate properly, are very unprofessional when speaking to parents and only want your money!

I took my nephew. Had a flyer for a discount. Asked if we can do the 20 for 2 weeks they said yes. Now They refused to take flyer saying one coupon could be used. No where on the flyer does it say that nor when asked about the 20 for 2 weeks to try they mention anything. They give these flyers to schools for kids who can’t really afford things. And I mentioned that and it helping boost his confidence. She was very short and said no, it’s our policy! Wow what happened to your motto integrity, honesty! So sad he won’t be going anymore!!! Don’t go to this one!!!!!

Great place to train TKD! The staff are friendly, inclusive and great martial artists! The instruction is clear and corrections are specific and easy to understand. We were at a different studio and have been very pleased after moving here!
The COVID procedures are on point with temperature checks and disinfectant sprayed between classes. Everyone wears a mask and we are socially distanced.
Highly recommend this place for children and adults!

This is an update to my former review...Shout out to Lee's and staff for their amazing care during the COVID struggle!!! They have been amazing throughout. Instructors were faithful and kind about helping students continue to train at home through Zoom classes when we could not meet in person. Working out is one of the things that keeps our young boy focused and learning in school. They helped so many families with remote learning so that parents could go to work and have their children lovingly assisted in their education. As things began to open up again, the staff continues to be diligent in cleaning practices as well as assuring students are able to train with less risk of illness than even before the pandemic. Having known the owner for more than 30 years and our grandson being a second generation student there, we wouldn't have our grandson train anywhere else in the valley. Thank you, Chief Master, Ms. Hill, Mr. Benton, and Ms. Castella for your hard work, dedication, and positive attitudes throughout this season!!! Our grandson CANNOT WAIT to get to class everyday!!!
From last year:
Our grandson (who lives with us) attends this academy and loves it! He started 3+ years ago when he was a very frightened, emotionally fragile little 4 year old. Not one staff member has ever been anything other than polite, professional, and genuinely concerned for the growth and well being of not only our boy, but the 3yo to OLD students. They are disciplined themselves so their students follow suit and learn to be self disciplined in their own lives. They have a special way of dealing with special needs individuals and watching them that is amazing.
Our grandson achieved his first degree black belt in a little less than 3 years. He has found his confidence and happily chooses to participate in leadership training! We love the confident young man he is becoming!
Most days there is a line of people needing information or to schedule extra classes for their student or purchase equipment. The young lady at the desk handles it beautifully even when the occasional grumpy parent comes along.
We have recommended many families to this school. We think Lee’s ATA Tempe is the perfect fit for our grandson’s needs.

My family has been part of this community since 2014. I would recommend this for individuals and especially for families. I have enjoyed watching my children grow through personal challenges and become leaders inside and outside of the academy. Taking classes with my kids and husband have created another thing we have in common. We enjoy the instruction, the workouts, the family friendly environment and the competition offered by Lee’s and the greater ATA community.

We loved the Tiny Tigers program and adored our instructors. Any concerns I had for my son, the intructors would immediately jump into action to help. The program benefited my child’s confidence and discipline. Unfortunately we decided we had to abruptly withdraw our 5 year old son from the program because of how our finances was handled… or not handled.
We enrolled in August of 2019 and signed a 1 year contract. In April 2020, we paid for 6 months’ tuition to receive a 20% discount. The following is what led to our decision to withdraw because ultimately how the issues were handled left a bad taste in my mouth. People who handle other’s money in the following manners should not be entrusted with my children’s education for trust, discipline and respect.
1. We paid tuition through October 2020 but began getting autobilled again in August.
2. I brought up the issue via text to the manager and followed up regularly over the course of a month and a half without a resolution- only short, unhelpful responses.
3. I was only credited back the amount they wrongfully charged when I reached out to my bank. Chase issued me a credit for the 2 charges that Lee’s took. Lee’s has never resolved this issue ($250)
4. I asked the manager several times over text and in person to take my card off file so that it would not be autocharged, she said okay each time but then the next month I would be charged again
5. I was wrongfully charged 3 months (August, September, October) before finally deciding I no longer wanted to deal with the issues. I asked to withdraw my son from the program because I knew my contract ended in August.
6. The manager told me that my contract auto renewed- I did not sign for a new contract and nowhere on the original contract did it state that it would autorenew. She insisted I would have to pay for 2 months’ of tuition to withdraw my son. I asked for the copy of what I signed and nowhere on that contract did it state that it autorenews or that I would have to pay any sort of fee to withdraw once the contract was over
7. I finally decided that the manager was absolutely no help in the situation. I went through the Chief’s husband, Mr. Landgren, who issued me a check for October’s withdraw but did not resolve the wrongful charges from August or September. It is still an open case with my bank and when I followed up with Chase, they said the merchant was not returning any of their contact attempts.
I would not recommend this studio to other families. You will soon come to realize the program is only set up for families to spend as much money as possible there. With all of the “advance” classes, level advancements even without really showing any improvement, equipment, “tournaments” and “charity” fundraising.
I don’t appreciate being lied to or disregarded, especially when it comes to money. If I had not taken this further than the manager, I would still be out $375.00. It’s a lot of money and I stressed that multiple times to the manager who did not seem to care about it.
Find a different martial arts studio or a different sport, keep your card away from them.

My family has been coming to this school for over a year now. The staff does a wonderful job of balancing the difficult aspects of child education; discipline, fun, self-respect, and humility. My children are flourishing. The curriculum changes almost every three months and the goals are high but reachable. There are adult fitness classes and self-defense courses as well. The most important thing to remember about any school or skill you learn is: you get out what you put in.

After struggling for years to get my 14 old to be interested in a sport or activity, she FINALLY expressed interest in taking self defense classes after watching a documentary about young women being assaulted.
"Great" I thought!! We have a martial arts gym right around the corner! We went inside Lee's for info today and the woman at the desk seemed irritated that I didn't know the difference between Taekwondo and Krav Maga (still don't!). Just gave us a flyer... No offer to explain pricing, how their program works, or show us around gym. Thanks for making us feel so unwelcomed, just unfortunate it happened in our own neighborhood.

Disgraceful. Lee's ATA evidently does not understand the word "honor". On the first and only day we attended, the instructor Arlyn Benson directed abusive language at my 3 year old boy. When confronted in front of room full of witnesses he denied threatening to punch my boy in the face. The manager profusely acknowledged the impropriety of Mr Benson and promised the owners would contact me that day to discuss the situation. They did not call. I returned four days later to ask for an explanation. Again they promised I would be called by a specific time. They did not call. Indecent. I hope they're ashamed.
