I've been a member here for 5+ years. I love the facility especially the pool. Locker rooms are clean and lockers are large. They just remodeled the shower area also. The staff when you walk in are very friendly and you feel like you are home. There is a huge gym and some awesome classes.

This location is completely unprofessional and disorganized.
We signed my infant up for swim lessons that were to start on the 1st at 9am. We get there to be told lessons were pushed a week back because of a swim meet. No one informed us. I login to the ymca portal and classes updated to the 8th. We then show up on the 8th and there were no instructors. We were told the lessons were at 9:40. I logged in and they said 9am. After waiting over 30min the swim director spoke with us and stated lessons were supposed to start on the 1st at 9am. And our lesson on the 8th should have been at 9am. But where was the supposed instructor? We asked for a refund. The swim director then tried to tell us we shouldnβt do swim lessons in the fall and needed to do them in the summer when itβs hotter weather. Our son has been exposed to water since he was 4 months old. He was comfortable with the water temps. It sounded like just an excuse to make us less upset. This was a complete waste of time as we live 30min away. I would not recommend using this ymca for your childβs lessons.

The Southwest valley YMCA in Goodyear is a great place to work out. Whether you're using the gym or swimming and taking classes in the pool, it feels more personal than your average gym. It's never overcrowded and it's a good place to meet people that are actually interested in... Working out. I have recommended this location to many people and have been going here for years. I'm currently working with a personal trainer, Brett, and he is amazing. If you want to workout and not feel like a piece of meat, come to the YMCA!

We went to go swim for my niece birthday .. as my nephew did not know how to swim .. so they tell us they were short of staff do the kids could not do a swim test ! So the guy gave us a warning about my nephew swimming in one place literally! So my Neph is literally learning to swim he comes over and says ok thatβs it GET OUT ! In front of everyone! Remind you we were the only black African American family here my first and last Tim going here .. so i go to complain to someone at front .. they were saying omg we seen everything heβs supposed to give 3 warnings and as well he did over react all the time !!! So next thing I know Iβm getting an email saying that my Account is temporarily deactivated from the manager .. I was not coming back anyways ! Never again !

This is the worst YMCA in Arizona. I started my membership in north Scottsdale to help my kids become socially involved over the summer. My children loved it. We moved to this area last year, we reached out twice to this location. The first time we were singled out at spoken to without any respect. the second time we were told that this is a whites only area! I have reached out to many organizations to bring awareness to whatβs going on here at this location as well as black reformers in Arizona to see exactly how many blacks have been treated unfairly at this location. I also will be reaching out to the local news to spread awareness of whatβs going on at this ymca branch.

My daughter attended the teen camp the summer of 2023 and it was really good so we sent her back again this summer. It was TERRIBLE. There was no organization, and the communication about the schedule, payment and membership was laughable. We spent $1600 on the teen camp for our daughter to basically spend time at the YMCA and go to the Goodyear rec center due to their poor planning and coordination, After the experience we had this summer, we will never be returning. Save your money, ITS NOT WORTH IT.

Don't be fooled by the family-friendly YMCA branding. We signed up for a year membership, which still continues after the year (surprise!). I'm sure it's written in the fine print of their policy, and I understand what we've paid is on us for not catching it sooner. We haven't used their services in over a year, there is no accommodation to be made.
To cancel, you have to call, it's the only option. Then they send a form you have to complete. The very first acknowledgement is required and states they will charge you for one more month. The person I talked to confirmed there is absolutely no reasonable accommodations to be made no matter the circumstances. Once you submit the form, you have to wait for them to process it. Just a tactic to discourage people from cancelling, and throw in their face that they still have to pay even more.
This feels like such a shady practice, regardless of the legality. I'm sad to write a review like this, as I've always thought the YMCA was a wholesome place to bring our kids. I'm incredibly disappointed to know it's just another corporation finding ways to make it difficult while they take your money. Such a predatory policy in my opinion.
Would not recommend.

I work with my trainer, Analisha, from the Southwest Branch in Goodyear,, AZ. I have worked with her for at least three years. Analisha is extremely knowledgeable about the muscles and physiology which is extremely important for me as I am a senior. She incorporates weight training along with aerobic type exercises. Analisha is what makes going to the YMCA both enjoyable and productive health-wise.

The location of this facility is remarkably convenient, nestled near the Wigwam golf course within a safe and bustling neighborhood. It offers easy access to stores and libraries, making it even more attractive. A notable aspect is the engagement of many members who bring their children to partake in the early child learning program and the drop-in Child Watch service while they engage in their fitness routines.
Here are several noteworthy aspects of this location:
Dedicated and Supportive Staff: The commitment and helpfulness of the entire staff, from Fred and Nick to the entire team, have been consistently outstanding. Whether at the front desk or in the kids' room, the staff members exude warmth and a sincere welcome for both members and families.
Fantastic Group Fitness Classes: The variety of group fitness classes available here is impressive. The classes are designed to accommodate diverse age groups, from 5-year-old kids to those who are 99 years old(or older). Instructors Mary and Robin infuse energy and motivation, ensuring each session is enjoyable and effective.
Youth Development Activities: Beyond fitness, a wide array of youth development activities, including dance crews and summer camps, enrich the offerings. The year-round availability of swimming classes and the open pool further enhance the options.
Early Child Learning Program: The management of the early child learning program is nothing short of exceptional. The program's organization and structure are commendable, reflecting the effort invested in creating a nurturing environment.
Thoughtful Amenities: The provision of shades in both the parking lot and pool areas is a thoughtful touch. This feature offers crucial sun protection, especially during the scorching Arizona summers.
However, it's worth acknowledging that this location can become quite bustling, particularly during the peak times of summer camps. This might lead to occasional noise and finding oneself amidst groups of energetic children. Additionally, the showering facility appears slightly outdated and could benefit from an upgrade.

What a great environment for families! All my boys absolutely love going to the Y. I have 2 teen boys that love being going to the Summer Teen Camp and Leadership in Training. While my kids could have stayed home during the summer, I really didn't want them just sitting at home playing video games, with the camps/leadership they are surrounded by friends and mentors. Its a great place for them to have friends and just hang out in a safe environment! Thank you to the staff for all that you do for the kiddos!

The pool "looked" clean the entire time. 1.Did my kids got sick all at the same time next day? yes! Sick with high fevers and soar throats. 2. I got a 'month to month' membership that I just wanted for one month and canceled the same day to avoid getting charged for another month, but they were "forcing" me to pay for the second month. None of the employees/volunteers was able to help me on that matter. 3. On each visit the lifeguards would ask us (my kids) for the non-swimmers red bands, that were very visible, but still they would ask. It was annoying. 4. The pool manager, this guy! came to me one day asking me if my kid's life-vest were Coast Guard Approved. I politely answer yes, then told him that EVERY child life-vest IS Coast Guard Approved, is a standard now. I had to pull my 3 and 6 year old out of the water, removed their life-vest so he can "see and approved" the vest. Not to mention they were both crying thinking that we were done for the day. 5. Last week we were ready to head to the pool, and half way they stopped us from going in because they were having a summer camp activity.
Last year and this year has been the worst experience there for my family.
You can probably say, that you've been a member for your entire life, and thats awesome and I'm happy for you, but this is my experience.
As a father, I would try another soak-activity for your kiddos, and avoid place. Try a park with splash pad, get a slip and slide, or a kids pool.
You're Welcome.

I signed my 5 year old daughter up for the Silver Fins swimming team. She was doing okay but for some reason the team made her practice at 7pm to 7:45pm. That is too late for a 5 year old to be swimming at night. I am disappointed in the facility for letting anyone walk through the check point. They have broken showers with mold on them. I donβt usually give a one star review but YMCA West Valley in Goodyear has earned it. One star for being broken, unclean and unsafe.

The absolute best childcare in the valley! Hands down. This is a place of acceptance, where you are heard! I have taken my boys there for about five years now (school age) and now my baby is in the infant room and will continue their other early childhood programs, into their after school care like my boys! They showed true integrity during COVID times when my husband and I worked in healthcare and needed a safe place for our kids to go during the school day. Any issues have been minor and easily resolved. And they are the most supportive team in our community. It takes a lot to trust anyone with your children (I am especially picky) but I have trusted them with all of my boys for five years and never questioned if they were safe, loved, accepted, or acknowledged.

I've seen good YMCAs, and this one isn't good. This random YMCA I've been going to because I live near it is very small. All they offer is there swimming pool. A while ago they had a lounge for gaming and tv for kids, now they don't and that's a reason why they're doing so poorly. Let the kids have fun while their parents are exercising. That was one of the reasons they came anyways. The main workout area is duller than my local gym. The swimming pool is mediocre. If the main selling point that intrigues everyone is the pool, at least make the attraction pool better with funner rides than just a slide that makes you go in a 360 degree angle 2 times and go back on again until you realize it's your hundredth time on the slide.

My two boys were bullied by three thugs in their summer camp program. Nothing was done by camp supervisors despite repeated complaints by my boys. When I found this out I pulled my boys out of program and demanded a refund and an explanation of what will be done to prevent this from happening to other children. Thus far I'm getting little to no answers. Supervisor Devon Casem passed my complaint to Todd Heimecke. I don't believe he is very interested in pursuing any action towards these thugs or training for his staff. Employee attitudes come from the top down in any business. Beware

We have been family members for 10 years. I rarely went and there were many reasons for that. 1) class times are very limited and very crowded. 2) There is NOWHERE to change your kids, especially if you have infants!! You aren't allowed to use the women's locker room, which would be much better. Instead you have to use the "family" changing room, which is anything but designed for families. You have to lay them on the floor to change them. When I went with my older girls (5 and 7), there isn't anywhere to put anything! No counters, tables, benches, or chairs to lay out dry clothes or put down wet swim suits and towels. It's just AWFUL!! 3) Class times are very limited and crowded. 4) They close early, so if you wanted to go after you put your kids to bed, too bad! 5) I just cancelled my membership and due to the 30 day cancellation notice and the timing of my cancellation, I am PAYING for 2 MONTHS AFTER I CANCELLED THE MEMBERSHIP!! Totally unacceptable!! 6) The child "care" is a joke. There's someone at the front desk who minimally observes the kids. There isn't anyone outside to monitor them. Basically, it's a free for all for the kids and hardly any adult supervision. I am happy to cancel this membership and have been wanting to for years. There are so many better gym options out there. For an organization based on young people and families, that history is not reflected in this location.

My friend and I went for the first time to this Ymca the girl asked us if we had been before, which we both responded that we have not. She handed us a form to fill , we paid our 20 dollars and she gave us a day pass. The girl did not even give us a map or volunteer to show us around, when we asked where to go she pointed and said last door on the right is the locker room.
The place appeared to be clean and the girl was friendly enough, but there was no customer service.
Then we changed into our bathing suits for the 6:30 am aqua zumba class only to find the fliers had a typo and the class is held at 6:30 pm (not am)on wed and 8:30am on friday. We got our money back and left.
This did not leave a good taste in my mouth to ever return.
