Good gym with great people to train with! All levels welcomed if you have experience or none at all this gym will for sure get you where you want to be! Coach Dave runs this gym and has attention to detail very knowledgeable and does great with the competitive team! Coach Adam goes to Thailand about once a year more if he can to train so he always has good training tips and tricks straight from the mother land of Muay Thai! All teammates are supportive and make you feel welcomed would recommend this gym to anyone wanting to learn Muay Thai!

I was 51, overweight and in poor health. I looked for a gym close by. Found UMT. Thought I would give it a try though I had never had any training. One of the best life decisions I have ever made. I am now 55, confident and athletic. I ended up with more than I ever expected. A stellar training team and a fantastic group of fellow students whom I now consider friends. Everything is here at UMT whether you just want to get in shape, learn fundamentals, or train to compete at the local, state, national or international levels. Discipline, health and feeling damn good about yourself are side effects of training at UMT! Thank you coach Dave and the rest of the team!

I trained here for 3 months while on a work assignment in Phoenix and had a 10/10 experience. Excellent coaching, respectful and humble training partners who became friends, and flexible class times for all levels. I canβt wait to come back when Iβm in town again!

Great gym! Ever since I started going here, I've seen that my muscles have grown and I'm better at reacting towards attacks. 10/10 would recommend.

Everyone here is great, I've been to 3 gyms in 2 states for different martial arts and this is my favorite - no judgment, fun time, they work hard, good equipment, clean, great for any skill level and age.

As an Actor&Sportsman I travelled the whole world and trained with great guys like Malaipet Sasiprapa, Fadi Merza or Nathan Corbett. But Coach Brooks, who is also the owner of UMT, really understands what Muay Thai is. It is Communication with 8 limbs and your brain. Great Lessons & top Training Sessions, very smart Inputs he offers. Just Join his UMT Gym and be part of this Team. It`s far the best!

Team Universal is not just a great gym for all levels, but a great family! My spouse and I wanted to find a new hobby to do together and take our fitness levels to a new level. Not only were the coaches very welcoming to us joining, but the members were so nice! I received encouragement and motivation from team mates, which is really what makes this a great gym. When there are local fights in the valley, many of us go together, supporting the fighting community, but spending time together outside of the gym. I expected to go learn a new sport, and only 5 months into it, I've taken it more seriously than I ever anticipated and now am trying to get my weight down and train hard in hopes of fighting competitively soon! I will admit, the class is what you put into it, do not expect classes to be a breeze or easy, conditioning is tough. If you are accepting of a LA fitness kickboxing class and find that adequate for you, then this gym and workouts may come a surprise and difficult to accept or handle. However if you stick to it and really want to take your kickboxing to another level, stick with it for a while because it will get easier as you get more fit, but I promise you will feel great after class and not regret it! :)

The most helpful group of instructors you will ever come across. I hope to be back again soon. Great energy right when you walk in and Iβve never encountered any kind of ego from other people training there, everyone is so helpful.

I started Muay Thai about 2 months ago in Baltimore and wanted to keep up with it while I came home and visited my parents in the Phoenix area. As a beginner, I was a little nervous about visiting a new gym. However, everyone at Universal Muay Thai was so friendly and accommodating that I immediately felt at home.
Coach Dave is so great and articulate so his instructions are thorough and easy to follow. Every class is an incredible, well rounded workout for any fitness level. On top of that, the gym itself is beautiful and clean. If I move back to Phoenix in the future, I will definitely become a member. I HIGHLY recommend checking out this gym if youβre in the area or even just visiting!

UMT is the most welcoming gym I have ever visited. As a professional fighter with over 60 fights I think I know a quality gym when I see one. And Coach Brooks has established a solid Muay Thai striking gym.
Come check out a friendly environment and learn the art of 8 limbs while having fun and gaining knowledge preparing you for either fighting and or fitness.

Not only did training here get me in much better shape, it has improved my overall quality of life. My flexibility is better, and any stress is gone.
I've recommended it to everyone interested, and my cousin recently joined as well.
Everyone is friendly, and Coach Brooks is a good leader. He encourages comradery and supporting the sport by going to events.
Anyone interested should stop in and ask questions.

Training here is fantastic! Coach Brooks truly does love Muay Thai.
I started training here after 10 years of being crippled up from cancer treatments (3 years of being laid up in bed, 5 years of sporadic, hellish complications, and a couple years of getting used to being able to move semi normally). All that inaction had me up to 300lbs at my heaviest. When I finally got to a point where I could exercise again I got ahold of Team Universal Muay Thai. I explained my situation to coach Brooks and got started.
Now, 9 months later, I sit at 225lbs and am setting new personal bests weekly. Running, as much as I hate it, is possible again. I got my life back.
You should be here. It's fun and hard, and will make you better.

I would highly recommend Team Universal Muay Thai. Everyone in the gym makes you feel welcome and part of the team. Coach Brooks has patience and is able to work with anyone no matter the starting skill level. If you are looking for something to try to help you with mindset that carries over into work and everyday life or simply something that is an awesome workout and new found skill. You should definitely give it a shot. It's very reasonably priced and if you're feel your work schedule might get in the way he has tons of different days and times to solve that.

I started at this gym as a young adult with no direction in life. I walked by it on my way to work everyday for almost a year. I finally stepped in that door and decided to make a commitment to myself. As time has passed and I have matured, this gym, and Muay Thai itself, have granted me something I never had. Stability, vision, and possibly a future. If you let it, Team Universal and the community that comes with it, could be that to you too. See ya'll on the mats and hitting the bags :)

No gym is like this. This gym, the people, and Coach Brooks are all truly one of a kind. This gym did not only teach me how to fight, it also taught me a lot about myself. I learned how to push my limits and it resulted me into becoming a better individual. Coach Brooks is willing to support you in any choice you make. He's truly a great guy and coach and he will help mold you to become the better person or fighter that you want to be. All of the people that go to the gym are very warm and welcoming. They introduce themselves the second you walk in and make you feel at home. Most people find these gyms intimidating but after your first day, you feel at home. I love this gym.

I have never had any problems with this gym. Both coaches are more than willing to help a beginner (or better). When I started, I had no experience. Coach Brooks works with everyone and anyone who wants to come train or become a fighter. I came in weighing in at 186 and got down to 156 just training (no dieting). The price is pretty cheap compared to any other MMA/Kickboxing gyms.
Edit: To satisfy the bad post, Coach Jao doesn't pick favorites. There are several (different) students that have earned medals under him of both young/adult students. The only time I have ever seen him work with 1 student, is if they pay for private lessons outside of the class (not during obviously). As for Coach Brooks, he runs the entire gym himself... So when random people come in, who is going to tend to them? Each class is about an hour and a half so expecting potential customers to wait the entire time is rediculous. He only leaves the most senior student in charge if this happens (which is not very often). In the 2 years I did go, he has never insulted or belittled someone especially beginners. If he did this, wouldn't you think there would be a lot less students going?
All in all, the only people that will have a bad experience are those who come to tell others they are part of a gym rather than going to train. There have been a few I have trained with like this and of course they had a bad experience to tell because they didn't become a pro MMA fighter within the first couple weeks. Training of any martial arts takes time, patience and dedication.

Universial is Like a second family! The gym is very clean, well lit, the Coaches: Coach Brooks and Coach Joao, have a great attitude and passion for student respect and achievment. My Wife and I moved to PHX for me to go to School in 2010. We really miss family and friends back in Texas. Thankfully we found Team Universial. We fit right in. My wife with BJJ, Myself with Muay Thai. Instant family and friends.
