DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ANYTHING EXCEPT A BASIC GYM MEMBERSHIP! Meaning.... Do not sign up for personal training or PRT. I have a qualifying reason and proof to cancel & getting out of it has been a nightmare and I believe that it might effect their pay checks or something if we cancel because they do not get back to you!! I have been trying to get my personal training membership canceled with DAVID for a 40 days now and he just will NOT get back to me. He was hella nice when I was joining... Now... NOTHING! Even if I COULD keep the personal training membership, I wouldn't because it's not even worth it. I do better work outs on my own. This is my first review. I will continue to leave reviews on other platforms and then I will escalate this as necessary if I do not get results.

The gym facilities are excellent, and the team and staff are highly supportive. The expansive space is equipped with a wide array of workout equipment, ensuring minimal waiting times. Cleanliness is a top priority, extending to the bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms. Should any issues arise, the staff is readily available to address them promptly. Overall, it is a superb fitness establishment.

Man, where do I even start? I was visiting a friend in Sacramento and needed a gym to get a workout in. I saw this City Sports nearby and decided to give it a try — and honestly, it’s by far the best one I’ve been to. The space is large, super clean, and has a top-notch recovery station that I haven’t seen at any of their other locations. It really feels like an all-in-one experience.
The only thing missing is a sauna, but the recovery area definitely makes up for it. If I lived in the area, this would easily be my go-to gym. I’m even considering driving up from the Bay once in a while just to get a session in, lol.

I am very disappointed with this gym and particularly the manager, David. All I wanted was to change the number of days that I was paying for personal training sessions. I was told by the young man at the front desk that I would have to schedule an appointment with the manager in person. I informed the young man that I was busy and didn't have time to meet with the manager, and could he please tell the manager to make the change. He said he would do this. That was about 4 months ago. Yesterday I decided to check and confirm that this change was done and discovered that it was not. City Sports had not made the requested change and continued billing me for two sesssions per week when I requested it be reduced to one. Again, I was told that I would have to meet with the manager, David. Again, I protested and requested that the change be made without setting up a meeting with David. The club insisted, so I worked it into my schedule today to meet David at 10 am. When I arrived, I was told that David was busy with an unscheduled walk in. I explained that I had a 10 am appointment and that it was currently 10 am. The young man at the front desk asked me to wait. I waited for about 15 minutes before I informed the young man that I was taking time off of work to meet with David for a meeting they were insisting upon and that I did not want. I finally left and called the front desk as soon as I walked out their doors. I was then placed on hold for 60 minutes before David picked up the phone. After providing me with several excuses for the club's shortcomings, he tells me that he will switch me back to one day, (Why wasn't this done over the phone in the first place). Additionally, David informed me that he and the club were "Sorry" but that he would not be refunding or crediting my membership. Instead, they apparently think it's fine to treat clients so poorly. I am looking for a. new gym.

Love this gym! My husband and I have been members for over two years. The gym is always clean, the staff is welcoming, and the machines are well-maintained.
However, I joined this gym primarily to use the pool, and I'm very disappointed with how often it's rented this year to a separate company, Safe Splash, for kids' swim lessons. The lessons take up a significant portion of the evening (4:00 to 7:45pm), which is when most people want to get in a workout. It's frustrating to pay for an amenity that is frequently unavailable during convenient hours. I'm not opposed to them holding kid lessons, I just think they need to adjust the hours and adjust how long the sessions last. This is why I give it 4 instead of 5 stars.

The pool is super strong of chlorine you get hairy, dry skin and with perpetual cough like an old woman. Besides, there is a manager wanna be (Marcus) who wants to be aggressive with the ladies. They did me a favor by canceling my membership. Thank you.

Nice, clean, not a ton of classes though and the place can get a bit packed in the after work hours. All in all a decent place to work out, try mornings and midday for more easier access to machines and free weights and stair master.

There is ALWAYS issues with MAINTENANCE in the women’s RESTROOM. The soap and tissue is regularly out of stock. The two sinks have been out of service for at LEAST a month and a half! Now the tissue dispenser is out of service. The one sink you see in service, the soap has been out for a few days. When considering the cost of the membership, this is ridiculous.

Be warned two of us were victims of theft this week. Someone broke padlock in the men's locker room and stole my wallet and keys. Staff was not overly helpful. I found out that another member was also a victim that same morning. The locker room is not safe and the staff seems to tolerate it.

I’ve been going to this gym for about 6 months now, and can definitely say it’s been a great experience. Super friendly staff and tends to be well -kept and clean. Not to mention, the price is hard to beat compared to a lot of gyms around here… as long as I live around here, my business isn’t going anywhere!

The leadership would rather have people hard selling memberships for commission than just keeping the place clean and maintained which would result in the members selling the gym for free.
On average the place is pretty dirty. The garbage cans are often full and the soap / wipes, etc empty. Even at opening.

Just joined the gym about 2 months ago and I love it even more than when I first started! Machines and equipment are upscale and of great quality, the employees are always welcoming and hospitable. The gym could get pretty busy but there’s so much equipment that I haven’t had to wait for anything to become available thus far. The atmosphere overall doesn’t feel drabby like it did at my last gym, I’m always encouraged by seeing other people taking their health goals seriously, so many friendly faces here too. Absolutely love!!

Update: week 2 and paper towels/cleaning wipes are once again no where to be found. I really think they're not keeping up with their inventory. It's a concern because some people really sweat on these machines, like where you can see sweat dripping down on them. It would help a lot if there were a consistency of cleaning wipes everyday/week. Besides that the gyms really nice, just not very hygienic and clean on the machines without these cleaning wipes.
Started this gym at the end of 2023 and loved it since it was new. Now it's packed, but that's like every gym nowadays. The issue is they're always out of wipes and once they're out they use paper towels and spray which is fine I guess.. but then multiple stations would be out of paper towels. Told the front desk and they said theyll tell janitorial...an hour later still no paper towels.

The gym bros ruin this place. They put their stuff on two or three machines at a time to save them because they think they are more important than every one else. The worst part is the staff see them do it and say nothing.

Do not join PRT if you ever want to get out of it!!! I was in a car accident and was unable to continue as they would give me NO accommodation even though they saw pictures of my totalled car. So I paid for the entire 6 months. After meeting with Jason twice I AM STILL BEING CHARGED and no one will help me. Today everyone was "in a meeting." No one has ever returned my call. BEWARE! * Note that none of the multiple negative reviews below were responded to
. But every friend/neighbor who wrote something positive, got a response.
*** UPDATE: I just got a $44.99 charge from LA Fitness 1/2/25!!! Months after my PRT was finally cancelled. This City Sports/LA Fitness is SO shady. Incompetent at best, fraudulent more accurately. STAY AWAY.

DO NOT GO HERE unless you want to be LIED to, DISRESPECTED, and STOLEN from.
I tried using their so-called "free" 3day trial. Not only did I not recieve the trial in my email, after going into the gym. You HAVE to speak to a representative and listen to their whole spiel before they activate your trial. Tommy, the rep who "helped" me, not only asked invasive questions that I made clear I was not comfortable answering, but he also interrupted MULTIPLE peoples workouts when trying to show me the facility, including getting on a machine that someone else was using! He didn't even bother to wipe down the machines he used. He only finished his whole talk when I reluctantly signed up for a month. He said he would start my trial and if I wanted to cancel before the month started, I could and I wouldn't be charged. A blatant LIE.
They ONLY care about your money. I tried canceling my membership THREE times, and each time was told it would be sent over to a manager to review and cancel. I called to cancel and they say you can't cancel over the phone, you HAVE to go in person to cancel. I went in person and they said the manager wasn't in but they would let him know first thing in the mornin to cancel my membership and I would get a cancelation email. (They also STILL hadn't activated my trial period despite me having already spoken to someone at a desk). They even said they'd leave a note on my account so I wouldn't get charged, just in case. Another LIE. 3 days pass and there is nothing in my email, so I call AGAIN. They say the manager hasn't gotten to it but I will get an email by end of day. Today I wake up with an email welcoming me to the gym and a 100 charge on my account. THEY WILL STRAIGHT UP STEAL FROM YOU AND WON'T LET YOU CANCEL.
Also pretty funny how the owner ONLY responds to those 5 star reviews. I would LOVE a response from the owner on this one, but you wont see it here.

Using my VIP guest pass, I brought in a friend interested in joining, and despite our protests, she was forced into a fitness consultation she did not want by manager, Anthony. Despite her saying her reason for wanting to join was mental health, Anthony pressured her to tell him her weight, put it into a BMI calculator to show us, and told her she was “in the red” and should lose a pound a week. We were both extremely uncomfortable and when I told him so, he got angry, threw down his papers, and walked away. Can’t believe they think body-shaming is a good way to get people to join a gym. Talk about alienating your customers. And what’s the point of the guest pass if they try to force you into signing up your first visit?
I’m bummed I have to leave this review as besides this incident, I’ve really enjoyed my last year as a member and had a great experience with previous manager, Guido.

Unethical, callous, liars. These guys will take your money, give you lip service, and not care - will keep charging your credit card! Buyer BEWARE. They blamed a trainer they fired on why they didn't cancel a personal fitness contract for our minor son. This contract we agreed to UPON signing (3 month only), which our MINOR son verbally canceled with his trainer (it's our last session!) and they confirmed - and which they did not actually cancel and continued to charge us. When we brought up this 'mistake', they did not immediately apologize and make right, but instead have been paying lip service, making excuses, pretending to do something and doing nothing. LIARS.
Do yourself a favor and go join a locally owned gym that actually cares about your fitness. Not this scam that's only out for profit. They don't even keep enough wipes to keep the equipment clean, so good luck sweating on dirty machinery.

My husband signed up for semi-personal training (PRT). The initial agreement was 6 months and due to the high monthly cost, he opted to cancel that add-on to his membership. In pursuing a "cancel anytime" cancellation, we've come to learn just how incompetent the staff and management are at this club. It's taken over a month to cancel and we were charged for another month during the wait. Now we're waiting to be approved by corporate for a refund. Whether you go in person or call, no one can help you or they direct you to staff members who you later find out aren't in charge of those activities, etc. etc. It's either blatant incompetence or a runaround tactic to continue charging you money. We're disputing with our bank instead of waiting on this gym's nonsense.
You will find many other reviews describing what a pain it is to cancel or get a refund when you are wrongly charged. BELIEVE THEM!! There are many gyms out there-- find a different one.

Gym itself is fine for the fee, but trying to cancel the membership it is a pain the butt.
The option in the android app? 404 error
Do it online? Print form, send it via snail mail.
In-person? Member-service people cannot do it. You need to talk to the greeter at the front desk.
Front desk? I can't do it, you need to talk to a manager.

Buyer BEWARE (WARNING)!!!! This gym practices unethical billing! From April to July I was in and out of the hospital (25 days and 2 surgeries). In that Time We had asked them to freeze both the gym membership and the PRT both in writing and verbally in addition having my physician writing them a note. They would not / did not freeze. They charged me on 3 different occasions and not until I fought them through the C.C. company did I recieve 2 of 3 months back. Their practices were so awful I don't even want to try another gym. In my opinion they lack any business ethics, empathy, or morals. Again my opinion but they are so awful in their practices (business) they should have their business license pulled.

5 stars for the gym and that’s just the gym alone. Every CS location in Sacramento area has been great. A lot of equipment variations, clean gym, pretty large/decent sized, and great for its price. In my opinion, this is one of the best gyms in Sacramento area with the most updated equipment and cleanliness. I prefer this over PF, Calfit, and especially 24hr fitness.
Staff is a 3/5. Does the bare minimum but I’m not there for the staff so I don’t care much for that interaction. Only complaint I do have as I’ve seen in the reviews before me in my own experience is staff lying to me that there was no free trials to make a sale but clearly online you can get a 3 day free trial pass. Pushy sales of staff talking too much when I just wanted to get in and out but took an hour to sign me up trying to upsell me with personal training when I’ve repetitively declined. As the person below said, to save the annoyance just sign up online.
I also do have a friend who works at city sports and he did confirm sale tactics for personal trainings are shady so just make sure you have a clear understanding of what you’re signing up for if you’re interested in their personal trainings.

As other reviews have mentioned previously, be aware of their billing practices!
While the gym is new and the staff are friendly, their billing practice is beyond unprofessional and border lining unethical. I had several both in-person conversation and written texts for cancelling my PRT (semi-personal training) membership back in June, and I was confirmed multiple times that membership would be canceled. I've notified them that I would be out of the country for a while. Nonetheless, they continued to charge my credit card for $300/month. The billing issue is still not rectified and they are waiting for "authorization" even though it's their billing error.
Think twice before you join them given their billing practice!

Wife's wallet was stolen from a locker yesterday (7/12 around 3pm) after the front desk person let in 3 women wearing masks to supposedly "use the restroom". Who wears a mask when it's 110 degrees outside? They weren't members, they hadn't purchased day passes, just random people off the street. Why do we pay a membership at this gym if you can just walk in and say you want to use the restroom and work out (or steal people's stuff) for free? We will probably be cancelling our membership here. I understand that theoretically lockers are to be used at the person's own risk, and asking a front desk receptionist that probably doesn't make much more than minimum wage to play security guard/detective may be unreasonable but, from a management perspective, this gym can't even control who enters the premises. Pretty basic stuff. I've lost count of how many times I've been there to work out and there hasn't even been anyone at the front desk, much less anyone looking out for suspicious individuals trying to get in. Not fair to or safe for the paying members. You need to do better, period.
EDIT: 18 of the last 19 reviews after mine and the review about this gym not fostering a safe space for women have been 5 stars, all within the last week. How much are you paying for 5 star reviews, and how do I get some? I'll gladly change my rating for a payout. So blatantly shady.

THIS GYM DOES NOT FOSTER A SAFE SPACE FOR WOMEN.
This gym has been non stop calling to try to push a membership, despite being told multiple times we aren’t interested and to take us off the call list. There’s a review lower down here of someone talking about checking out women’s butts, which the gym responded POSITIVELY to. When this was brought up to the person on the phone, he became extremely condescending and asked if we were really going to believe everything we see online even though the evidence is right there for everyone to see. I will not be patronizing any gym that can’t even do the bare minimum to create a safe environment for women to work out in without being treated like objects.

This gym is cool. Could be a lot more cleaner. Some spots near the cable machines are filthy. Lots of dust. You can literally see it floating through the air near the free weights sections. The wipes read “hand sanitizing wipes” but they are utilized to clean machines? A better wipe system should be put into place. Occasionally there are wipes and spray, but it’s not consistent.
The pool has been closed for a few weeks now with something brown towards bottom of pool.
I really do enjoy this gym but management needs to listen to customers and make the adjustments.

I've been a member of the Land Park gym since it originally opened in September 2023.
Since then, there's been a dramatic decline in the gym's cleanliness. Often, it's exceptionally dirty. It raises health concerns and frankly is not hygienic i.e., I put my gym bag on the floor yesterday and had to wipe it off before I left because someone else's ball of hair and dust was stuck to the bottom. The water filter needs to be changed, and some of the seat pads are ripped. It’s apparent the floors have not been vacuumed or mopped for quite some time. Also, the equipment is covered in human hair and dust.
I was excited about having a gym in my neighborhood, especially a brand-new one. Given the price we pay as members, I expect a higher level of care from the staff. I used to go to Planet Fitness, multiple locations, all of which were much cleaner than this City Sports location. It's both disappointing and embarrassing. Honestly, if I had visited the gym for the first time for a 'tour', which I see very often while I'm working out, I would have walked right out and wouldn't think twice about not joining and certainly wouldn't give you my money. It appears that the staff is solely responsible for sales and no attention is being paid to the maintenance of the facility.
This is stated on your website. I recommend the facility lives up to these standards.
"We are willing to train people who are passionate about keeping our facilities beautifully maintained. Our janitorial staff is the backbone of the "Club Pride" everyone shares for the facility."

rules make no sense. You have to be 18 to use a guest pass but if your 10 with a member ship they wont question you.

Cleanliness: Clean gym and sufficient space to work out
Cons:
The management's reluctance to replace equipment despite being a new gym suggests a potential issue with prioritizing member satisfaction and ensuring equipment quality embodied by her condescending behavior towards employees and customers
Front Desk Engagement: Front desk staff being preoccupied with personal devices instead of greeting members upon entry
No sauna or steam room

I like it but, I’m also tired of employees not showing up on time to open , members have waited up too 30 minutes this is ridiculous is happening to much hire someone more responsible we have a busy day also our time is very limited give me a break please … they also need to have earlier work out classes and open at 4am during the week and weekends at least open at 6am. Otherwise is good nice and quiet 🤫

Beware the billing practices! This club has a lot of positive attributes – it’s spacious and seldom crowded, there is a good variety of weightlifting equipment, and the area is well ventilated with lots of ceiling fans. Most staff are friendly and helpful.
The cardio equipment is second rate and there is not much variety, PRECOR Equipment is superior and they have almost all Star Trac cardio machines, with the exception of the step mills and stairmaster. The floors and locker rooms are kept very clean, but the lack of towels or adequate wipes for machines is a hygiene problem.
A major drawback to the gym is the billing practices. Our membership was charged to the credit card provided two weeks earlier than we agreed, and the annual fees were assessed immediately, rather than months later as promised. Trying to resolve these issues took dozens of texts over two months and was just ridiculous. it seems generous that sales staff provide their personal cell phone numbers, but this resulted in weeks of runaround, and most texts went unanswered. Promises to resolve the issue were not fulfilled multiple times.
Recommend making sure you get everything in writing, as it seems the practice is to tell members one thing and then make excuses or simply ignore requests - they actually don’t follow through on what was promised. Whether this is corporate policy or an issue with some individual employees isn’t clear.

No sauna? It’s 2024. They want you to pay extra for red light sauna. Rip off
Also, Managment is rude

Like the location along with new equipment. Gym is cleaned frequently. Odd there is a pool, but no sauna and no steam room. What I don’t like: wait times for people camping on equipment, taking selfies and texting. Management should be aware of all the nude selfies being taken in the locker rooms. Rather not be the backdrop of someone’s selfie.

One of the cleanest indoor pools I’ve ever been in.
The club itself is laid out in a very efficient way and all the equipment is new.
Plus the employees all seem competent and dedicated.
I’m really quite impressed and find it much better than the other clubs I belong to.

Cleanliness 5/5
Equipment 5/5
Amenities 4/5 - wish they had a sauna/steam room
Reading the reviews it seems the bad reviews come from billing, If they can get that under control this gym has a lot of potential in terms of grabbing gym goers.
This has become my new home gym.
Also they need to open earlier on the weekends at least 6AM.

It's okay for the price, just okay. Unfortunately there aren't many affordable options in the midtown/central Sac area like this with a pool. Yet it is still lacking in many regards: the cardio equipment is lower quality than the other City Sports in the bay, and why build a brand new gym like this without a sauna, steam room or jacuzzi? All the City Sports Clubs I've been to in the bay have all of the above, and it seems like a missed opportunity or just a decision to cut corners, and charge more for the 'exclusive' recovery/cryo area.
Could knock more stars for double charging my credit card, which seems to be a common (and intentional) practice. Slimy.

When I signed up for the membership, prior to the gym opening, I was told I would get a "walk through just to get like a run down of the equipment". No one did that. Once they have you in the door and have your money they do not care. As a very non-active, no gym experience kind of girl trying to start the process for the first time that definitely would have been helpful. The staff just sits/stands at their desk talking. When you ask for help they act put out. Half the time I can't even figure out how to work certain machines or how to adjust them to me properly. The staff literally can see you struggling to figure it out and they still ignore you. It's just funny considering that they work at A GYM. I am thinking of dropping this membership all together and joining a different gym with a more helpful atmosphere.

Great gym, great equipment. However, you have to be on top of the charges. I was promised a rate of $69 a month for my wife and I. That never happened. I was charge a full rate. I recommend you to write down everything and take pictures otherwise you won’t be able to get the deal it was promised to you by the sales team.

Worst gym experience I’ve ever had. Much of the equipment is out of order (shocking for a brand new place) and the sales dept was deceptive. Took my business to Fitness Systems (which is actually in Land Park) after 2 weeks.

I recently joined the gym, because I got a mailer. I am glad I got it. I love the gym and the amenities. It is super clean and everyone is friendly from the staff to the fellow gym rats. I usually train at home, but decided to join the gym, because I needed to Lift heavier and I can't do that at home. Plus they have two different kind of rowing machines which I love one for light weight and the other one for heavy lifting. I got a great work out. I can barely move, but it is worth it. I got in my cardio too. This place is a must join.

I had an appointment to meet Guido there. Nine o'clock the following day. I showed up one minute early, I was right on time. I walked in the door and was told that it would be at least 20 to 25 minutes before they would assist me. Guido, who said he would be there to meet me, was not even there. That is really unprofessional and it's bad business. Who the hell do these people think they are that they can waste customers time? And now in one other review I'm seeing that they double charged a person? What a horrible company.

Great club and amenities. Everything is so clean. Staff are friendly. I signed up during a presale. My credit card was charged 4 times. Later that day, two of those charges returned back to me. I'm still being double-charged. I have contacted City Sports through email and have spoken to Guido at this club and the club has assured me the charges will return back. As of today, the double charge has officially posted to my credit card. I have resorted to freezing my credit card to prevent my card from being charged again. I will update my review until this has been resolved. Edit 9/26: All pending charges removed. I still have a double-charge that officially posted to my credit card. I have been speaking to corporate about this. It's slow going because they can't seem to find my account. Edit 9/27: I just filed a credit dispute with my credit card issuer. This company is awful. It's too bad because this gym is nice. Edit 10/11: Spoke to Haley again back on 10/6 & 10/9 in person. She took down my credit card number and the transaction numbers to figure out where the double charges are occurring. On 10/9, I received a voice mail from Haley apologizing for the inconvenience and figured out my credit card was applied to another person's membership. They were going to immediately credit the double charges. As of 10/11, the double charges were credited from my credit card. I'm revising it to 4 stars. I just can't do 5 because of the mistake performed on their end. The facilities here at this gym are really great.
