Clean, friendly, new-like with great workout machines! Outdoor workout area is great for more high performance workouts. Not busy during the day and mornings, especially on rainy days. Hot tub is open during rainy days and pool is great. Front desk staff are always helpful with answering all questions and concerns. It’s not as busy and always squat racks available!

I love the Egym addition. Knowledgeable staff is stationed there to answer members' questions.
Those huge fans above the Treadmills. My wife and I don't use them because we find the fans create too much wind in our faces. She has stopped coming and just uses Egym.

I have been going to this gym for over a year. It really upsets me that they decided not to repair a lot of broken mechanical weight lifting machines and instead decided to put electronic weight lifting machines. The new machines are called the “EGYM” and it’s catered to the older members of the community, but at the same time as someone who is 29yrs old and pretty tech savvy these machines are not user friendly. It’s just sad that they aren’t interested in making sure their basic gym equipment is in good shape first before “upgrading” to these complicated and energy sucking e-weight machines. I was so upset that took out one of my favorite hamstring curl machines!! Gym girlies stay away

UPDATE: The new pool staff is amazing. Honestly, they fixed everything about the aquatics program, and have delivered a schedule with very fair access for everyone, especially considering all of the demand for the pool for various uses. Really an awesome effort here that’s not easy. Seriously the best pool in the area and that alone is worth the membership. However…

A huge portion of the machines and racks are broken. These days repairs are taking 3 weeks minimum and up to two months which is unacceptable when ALL or nearly all of the same type of machine or racks are broken. They used to have a consistent repair turnaround and one or two machines broken at a time max but they changed last year and now there are lots broken.

The new, much-needed, additional weight room machines they’ve been promising ended up being inferior and a 60 dollar upcharge to use! “EGYM”. It is a great community, but 4 of my weight room acquaintances quit and moved to other gyms in the area citing their wish for more machines or more cable racks as their main or sole reason. These egym machines are not it.

Despite these faults, the member-facing staff is always extremely nice, courteous, friendly, and helpful.

Meh. It has it’s pros and cons. It will get the job done but it will be a slog the whole time.

Cons:
Inside area is pretty wack. Downstairs machines are all super light weight and you can max them out after a year of training. Upstairs is 75% cardio machines. Leg press machine & chest/ shoulder fly have been broken for ~1 month or more. Machine tri pushdown is awkward. Hard to get a flow going because the vibe is geezer doing 100 reps / 10 sets on the machine you need.

Outside area is kinda wack. Everything is rusty, you’ll have rust on your hands every time you touch a barbell. Only 2 45lb barbells out there, everything else is the lighter bars. No bumper plates for deadlifts.

Pros:

Very safe gym, great family atmosphere. Lost my wallet & water bottle and they were both returned to the front desk.

Sauna is always really warn even though it’s kinda grungy and small.

The equipment is new and in very good condition. Everyone that works at the facility as well as everyone working out there is so wonderful and friendly. If you need help there is always someone that is happy to help. The pool is large and the water aerobics classes are a lot of fun.

The best! Friendly and helpful staff. Clean facility. The biggest takeaway for me is the outdoor pool! The pool schedule is very accommodating for various aquatic activities from volleyball to High Impact Fitness instruction. And, the schedule includes daily maintenance to keep the pool clean. Another plus, is the smaller individual therapeutic pool--perfect for just relaxing. Will definitely visit again.

Update Fall '24: They have staffed up as far as facilities and the gym is cleaner than it's been in a long time. Kudos to the team here for taking their patrons' concerns seriously.

Update Summer '24: Cleanliness of some facilities, especially men's locker rooms, has declined significantly in recent months. Now they seem to be watering down the soap too? It seems they're offering lower value services for the same price, even as the facilities get more crowded. Given this facility hosts families on the regular, the lack of care for cleanliness and neatness is especially disappointing.

My go-to gym. Generally clean, friendly staff, and a good community. They still haven't fully recovered from their COVID-19 staff levels and hours, but it's getting better with time.

Very nice, clean and updated YMCA. They have outdoor pool and jacuzzi which is really cool, but I didn't see a steam room, just a small cord sauna that you don't see often in any YMCA. The equipment here and various dedicated workout rooms are excellent and they have outdoor equipment too, very nice 👍

Hands down one of the nicest YMCAs I have ever been to. The facility is new, clean, and absolutely beautiful. I have been a member for about 20 years and gone to about 10 different facilities and this was probably in the top three. Tons of equipment, 3 stair climbers, outdoor gym and workout area, nice child activity center, 2 floors, and nice staff.

Love the infrastructure of this place & all the amenities, but my 5 star review goes to IAN. I enrolled my son in swimming lessons here & was almost going to call it quits because he was TERRIFIED of going anywhere near the pool & thanks to IAN not only my son will continue to receive classes here & make improvement but he will also enjoy the process. IAN was patient, kind & knew how to build his confidence inside the pool.

I love lakewood YMCA. My family have been members here for awhile. Most of the time this place is on point for clean facilities, great and friendly staff. There are a couple of things I don't care for, such as the spa age requirement (my kids love jacuzzis). I have occasionally found the bathroom needing supplies but rarely. The thing that brings me back is the helpful staff and the other members who are friendly and talkative and make you really feel part of a community.

The YMCA is a great place for families to come in work out. Depending on what time you go during the day you can get a machine or even some weights. If you go more in the afternoon you're going to get a lot of youngsters from the high school coming to work out. So just plan accordingly but way worth the price of admission.

It’s a wonderful place with lots of amenities. It’s very open and has lots of windows and I can appreciate that compared to other gyms. It’s great that they have a daycare but they only watch your child for an hour and it’s not enough time for me to get a workout in to be honest. I’m torn because I really like how family friendly it is but I feel like I need to go to a different gym that will watch my child much longer.

Disappointing change when leaving kids to play. 30-1hour wait time. It was a better system before. Ruined day and gym time. Also when a lot of kids leave some people cut in front of you how organized is that. The wait time is still the same even when people pick up their kids. The pool is great! But 3x I have reserved family swim: first time it was closed! Second time was great minus the disgusting change room. The third time we went in and got changed, the faucet was not working in change room. And then we went to go to pool and it was closed!!!!! Can you imagine how upset my 5 year old was? How frustrated I was. It wasted a lot if time! Thankfully he was pretty flexible. An older lady was there with a cane - she said she called ahead of time and was told the pool was open. She was stuck there till her husband could get back. The family change rooms should be as clean as elsewhere if there is a sign forbidding a young child with developmental delays from entering the change room with his mom. He is not capable of turning on the shower and dressing himself …he’s getting there. But the family rooms, trash on floor. Fons of toilet tissue on floor, dirty bandages and a broken faucet. You’d think after a public health emergency we’d at least have higher standards of cleanliness.
