My daughter has been dancing at RCDA for the last 10 years and I've been able to watch her grow as a performer and break out of her shell. The only thing that makes her smile more than doing tap is how much fun we have doing the Daddy-Daughter dance together every year. The experience we share makes memories that will last a lifetime. Looking forward to the next four years.

This has been the best dance school that I've encountered in the Sacramento area. The teachers are young and enthusiastic. The staff members are strict like a professional dance company, which encourages self-discipline, yet they are friendly, too. The whole environment is unpretentious and helpful, including the families. There are many class offerings with a variety of options. We started with ballet 2 years ago, and now we are participating in performance team, hip-hop, and mommy-munchkin classes, too. My daughter has developed self-confidence and healthy self-esteem through performing in public. I highly recommend enrolling your son or daughter.

My daughter started taking classes at the age of 3 and from that year we also began participating in their annual daddy daughter dance which is showcased at their annual recital in June. My daughter is now 9 and we are again part of the RCDA family. From my experience, the instructors are very kind, qualified, certified, experienced and we love all of them. We always look forward to our weekly classes and the daddy daughter dance creates special lifelong memories between me and my daughter.
The studio is super clean, very organized and communication is amazing. We get weekly reminders of everything that is happening, a monthly video newsletter, a very clear and concise website that contains every information possible from class schedules to requirements and expectations. Their social media page is also informative and fun.
The recital is top notch and super professional.
My daughter is also part of their performance team and she loves it! RCDA coordinates performances at baseball and basketball games, etc so the exposure and experience that is gained is priceless!! I'm convinced that if given the chance, my daughter would camp at RCDA and live there.
If there's anything else I can say is that RCDA is so much fun. Me and my daughter have a blast every time!

My two daughters have taken multiple dance classes at RCDA and we have always been very impressed with the professionalism at the dance academy. Both of my girls were young dancers, and they loved to attend dance class and loved their teachers! Each time they'd start a new class with a new teacher, they'd be sad to not have their previous teacher, but shortly after fell in love with their new teacher as well! The dance instructors have always been kind, friendly, and professional. Each class is well organized and not a moment is wasted during dance class. The teachers seem to be knowledgable in dance education, as well as managing multiple little ones in the studio. RCDA puts on a very professional recital every year which has been a highlight for my girls. They love the professional costumes, the photos, and getting to perform on a stage. The recital videos are treasured keepsakes for my family, and ones we replay often! The owner, Ms. Tirza, is friendly, extremely helpful, quick to respond to emails, and communicates clearly through email newsletters, video updates, and posters throughout the studio. The communication from Ms. Tirza and RCDA is by far the most consistent I've experienced when compared to the many youth activities my children have participated in. I will also note that the dance academy is understanding and doesn't pressure families in any way. My eldest daughter decided to focus on competitive soccer after a few years of dancing, and Ms. Tirza had a very positive attitude about her pursuing her other interests. Once my younger daughter was ready to start dance classes, Ms. Tirza welcomed our family back with open arms. Most recently, we've participated in the Mommy-Munchkin dance class and have had the most positive experience. The teachers are kind, energetic, and truly love to teach dance. My daughter glows with delight each class, and asks daily when we get to go to class together again. The teachers have even videoed the choreography so we can practice at home. We have so much fun dancing together! Overall, my family has been a patron of RCDA for about 6 years and we have no complaints! I would highly recommend RCDA! If you're considering RCDA, give Ms. Tirza a call. She will help guide you on the right class for your child. I'm confident you'll find her and the other teachers to be friendly, helpful and professional!

One of our favorite things about West Sacramento is River City Dance Academy. My daughter has absolutely flourished in their classes and it has been a joy watching her develop under such caring and passionate teachers. We highly recommend it here and look forward to being a part of the RCDA family for many more years to come!

I was a dancer at RCDA for 13 years, competitively for 8. My experience was great until middle school. When it comes to professionalism, the instructors would have crying fits, leaving competitions and recreational classes unattended. They do not value safety, or proper instruction to avoid injury and many times failed to recognize serious injuries that were caused by poor training. I progressed until about 7th grade, then noticed my team’s stagnant growth which was reflected by our coaches lack of motivation.

It was devastating when we gradually lost our passion for dance because of the continuous disrespect and unprofessional treatment from our teachers. Overall, our mental health was depleted by the toxic environment and I would not recommend this studio if your child is searching for a safe environment where they can progress in dance.

My daughter has been dancing at RCDA for about 3 years and she absolutely loves it! The teachers have all been nothing but amazing, encouraging her progress, making the classes fun and challenging, and most importantly giving her a sense of confidence and pride. I was so excited this year as they are now offering a mommy munchkin dance and I get to join in on the fun with her. I highly recommend RCDA if you are looking for a dance school with talented, knowledgeable, and passionate instructors and a fun, loving community!

My daughter has been dancing here for 7.5 years, competitively for 3 years. My youngest has been dancing for 3 years now, and my husband has been doing the Daddy Daughter dance for 3 years now. We love the professionalism of the staff, they are always willing to help and work with my daughter on any thing she's having trouble with, She always lets me know how comfortable and welcome she feel with the staff and instructors. I love that is a family owned business. i highly recommend any family that is looking for a dance studio.

My daughter started dancing here at 3 years old. She loved her classes and teachers. I take the adult tap class and love it. It’s the highlight of my week. The recitals they put on are so professional and well run. My daughter only took recreational classes, she didn’t want to compete. Only to have fun. We have such sweet memories of her times there and I intend to continue to tap there until I physically can’t.

My child danced here for 4 years after moving to Sacramento, 3 of which were on the company team.
Initially, she and I loved it. We felt like the teachers cared about her growth as a dancer. There are always teachers who play "favorites" but I've yet to come across a studio that truly doesn't.

But after covid, things felt different. My child suffered her final year...with extreme favoritism, yelling teachers (even for asking questions during classes?!), teachers who couldn't be bothered to show up and cheer them on at competitions (even the local ones), and expectations mentally for my child and financially beyond what our family was willing to continue to meet. My daughters growth plateaued as a dancer because there is no true technique taught past a certain age/level. The owner tried berating us for taking a last minute very serious mental health day when she was supposed to be a TA that night. No ma'am.

And oh, the parent/company meeting where the dancers were told to leave their drama at the door? But boy did the teachers bring their own to class.

Exclusion even written into their own competition contract about dancers not allowed to date each other (good luck with that!).

The past 3 years' recitals were at the teen center for overpriced recital tickets and terrible seating unless you paid even more money for the front row. It was laughable.

I debated writing a review, to wipe my hands of the studio. But people should know before they invest way too much $ and time. The only reason they received 2 stars was because of the wonderful ballet teacher, Ms Natalia. That's it.

Edited: please disregard a lot of these 5 star reviews as they were left by staff(reported) and staff family.

There's plenty of parking and the staff was friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed watching our little guy learn how to do tap and ballet on their TV screen that the Dance Academy has in their lobby.

It goes without saying that as long as our little man is happy we will continue his lessons at the Dance Academy :)

Whether your child is interested or not in dance, you will still be charged an extra month. I gave my girls an opportunity to try this to see if it would stick and it did for awhile until the last few weeks when you could see they just weren’t into it. I had already paid for the month but they needed additional finds to close me out whether my girls continue or not. Fortunately I’m not in a tight squeeze but for those parents who are, they force you to commit to extra time whether you want it or not. Also if your students/children are doing zoom, you will get left out of any extras that the in class students will receive for being there in person and you’re charged the same amount of money.

Wonderful staff, great space and there’s something for everyone in the family. I started taking the adult tap class (no previous dance background whatsoever) and this will be my second year continuing with it! I’m so happy I tried it even though I was nervous! It’s SO much fun yet challenging, definitely a good mental and physical work out! Highly recommend!!
