I’ve taken about 6 classes at this studio. The studio is very clean, aesthetically pleasing, and I love that they offer good quality mats and towels. The heat distribution is also superb. I absolutely love the instructors and yoga room. My first class was pretty intense being I had never taken a hot yoga class before, but luckily a friend of mine was there as mental support, and the class was well lead. I immediately signed up for more classes. I learned to challenge myself and even got some good feedback from the instructors. Unfortunately, I moved out of the Monterey area about a year ago, but today I am back and signed up for another class. If you are looking for a hot yoga studio with knowledgeable instructors and an impactful body experience, totally try Sweet Heat Hot Yoga!

Sweet Heat seems to be a great studio! Visiting from out of town in Monterey California; I did a drop-in, which is a one time class visit that supplies mat, towel, canned/bottled beverage from the refrigerator and filtered drinking water. Clean studio, aesthetically pleasing, spacious yet cozy, with friendly staff, and yogis. Very steady, well distributed heat level with good humidity. I have done hot yoga on and off for 20 years and I highly recommend this studio. FYI, there are new owners taking over but they are being mentored by the prior owner, so I would expect Sweet Heat to continue being as wonderful as it was for me. Check out their website & video overview prior to attending. Very helpful ☺️

Amazing place! Great studio, fantastic instructors that are passionate about what they do. Each instructor is so wonderfully different with their own style, so it's like a different class each time.
Highly recommend.

Wonderful instructors, beautiful environment. As a beginner, I was made to feel totally welcome and encouraged to improvise the positions to my abilities. Can't wait to go back.

My first experience of yoga + heat was during a visit with my sister in So Cal recently ... WOW! Right afterwords I got online and was very pleased to find Sweet Hot Yoga, a wonderful local hot yoga studio just 10 minutes from my own home in Monterey. My first class there was amazing, challenging and yet just right for a beginner like me. For me, the heat combined with yoga really allowed me to focus on my breath work and gave me a deeper stretch in tight areas. Definitely going to add this into my regular wellness practice from now on. Owner Leslie is a wonderful instructor and guide. I look forward to my hot yoga practice as one of my favorite forms of self-care.

Very much enjoyed my experience practicing here with the exception of Teachers getting irritated in the case of having to leave the room during the class. Bikram is a tyrants paradise, way too orthodox for me. I got what I came for each and every time though, which was a warm welcome and a physical and mental challenge. I personally do not enjoy the unique breathing exercises specific to this discipline either, a recipe for passing out and feeling awkward when unaccustomed. The owner's cool. Bikram studios should be more mindful of asthmatic yogis, yes it's participate at your own risk but don't give me the eye if I have to step out.

This is a really well run studio. The people are in great shape and many seam to be really advanced in their yoga practice. You can tell they take yoga seriously while being friendly and inclusive at the same time. I travel from San Diego all the way up through Seattle once a year on a 3 month work project. I go to many studios. So just on a comparison basis this one is really enjoyable.

I dropped in a few times over the course of a work trip and the studio was very welcoming and inclusive. The class included a varied level of students, including myself having only done Bikram a few times before, and the instructors were wonderful at keeping the pace for more experienced folks, yet explaining all the nuances to better position yourself in each move. Gave me more confidence. Studio was the perfect level of heat as well to get a good sweat on. Will definitely go again whenever I'm in the area!

Sweet Heat is my favorite yoga studio! I have practiced yoga all over the country and have yet to find a place as special as this. The instructors are incredible and really pay attention to each student, providing individual feedback. This is a great practice for beguninners and advanced yoga students alike. If you are thinking about trying it I would highly reccomend! My body and mind have never felt better and I could not speak more highly of this studio and it’s instructorsπŸ’™

I went to Sweet Heat Yoga with my girlfriend and we had a blast. Leslie was a great instructor and clearly guided us through all the poses in a way that worked for me (I’m a beginner).

I HIGHLY recommend going to Sweet Heat yoga!

The instructor was about a seven out of 10 because she spoke to rapidly sometimes to understand what she was saying.

I did like the vibe because everybody was very friendly and the community with the studio seem very strong as everybody knew each other.

The flooring was a new and awesome soft squishy mat like material so you probably don’t even need a mat and could just get by with a towel.

The room is a little tight in about half the room you can only have two mats deep so I would arrive early if you’re really particular about your space.

Parking was sufficient in the street.

A big downside was that there are no showers and there are individual places or little rooms to change before or after class

I was visiting Monterey and took a drop in class at Sweet Heat- loved it!!! The staff was kind and helpful. They explained the options for someone out of area. I got a one class pass, rented a towel and mat.
I’ve only done hot yoga a couple of times. The teacher was super nice and explained things well. The other students in the class talked to me and made me feel welcome. I will definitely come back :-)

We are from the east coast and wanted to try a yoga class. (I’ve been practicing many styles for over 20 yrs) I stopped into sweet heat and the woman was so lovely. She gave me the details and we decided to come the following afternoon. We called ahead to confirm details and arrived 15 minutes ahead to be greeted by a woman who interrogated us and said this was not the place for us. She asked where and what yoga I have done and that this would be too hot and not appropriate for us. Upon paying she threw the credit card at me and was anything but nice. In a yoga studio- this has never happened to me.
The class was silent and we were just fine for the 90 minutes. We followed along without any issues.
Perhaps you just want locals attending your studio? You should be consistent with your message with all staff. I love all yoga styles but this was a disappointment prior to a even class starting. Wishing you a happy 2020.

On Christmas Day, I was very excited to take class, as my 1st class here was terrific!

Sadly, the owner made many personal remarks towards and about me during class that were based on false assumptions about my physique and skill.

I wish she had taken a moment to get to know me privately / before / after class.

I was moving into deeper poses and holding them longer, to which she seemed to take offense. I was not disrupting the class in any way, being very intensely focused on my practice and pushing myself to the limit, as I always do. (I've taken over 1,000 classes in 10 years and have loved them all!)

But I felt her comments were not coming from a good/healthy place and even offensive towards me, my hobbies, and my former yoga instructors. She showed me that I was unwelcome in her class.
β™‘
Other than that, it is a beautiful studio and the first instructor I had was supportive and phenominal. I loved every moment!

________
In case you're curious about the owner's remarks:

She told me if I want to, I should take "advanced classes, retreats, and master classes," which was confusing because she said I was also doing "everything wrong." I said I would love to and although I can't afford it, asked if she would help with recommendations, to which she said "look online." Another time, "no, no, no, ballet is all beautiful but we don't do that here, we do yoga" (not sure what that had to do with me...?), then rhetorically "no, we don't do that here, who taught you that?" ....A studio owner who prepared me for competition, actually.... but of course she didn't actually want to know that. Being confused and wanting this to stop, I said I would appreciate fewer corrections, to which she replied: "ok. Copy that. And I would appreciate if you did the postures correctly. I'm not here busting my back every day.....etc."
Being a spiritual practice, the technique in the postures should always be executed to the best of the yogi's own abilities. Students should not suffer from the instructor's lack of knowledge about the individual and his/her goals. So at that point I felt it was best to follow my intuition and leave the class.

I mean, there's a huge difference between walking up to a student saying "your spine is cricked" then complimenting someone else on her technique and withholding any positive reinforcement. As an instructor myself, I would have said "twist the upper spine to the left above the knee," which is understandable and more goal-oriented, then followed up later on with a positive comment. But Leslie only seemed to focus only on the negative. ;( β™‘ Very sad experience, as I would have loved to come back!

I was hit by a car riding my bicycle. I am convinced the only reason I survived is because I had been doing Bikram yoga for years. This studio is by the book and perfect. You get a great group of teachers and a wonderful yoga community. I highly recommend. They don't have a shower; it is not a big deal I can shower at home. You will enhance your health and well being. Do it. Read all the information it is very informative.

I took my first hot bikram yoga class here a few weeks back and I can't stop thinking about it! Wonderful instruction, kind, experienced participants. Overall a worthwhile and comfortable experience, especially for a first timer. 10/10 would recommend for the novice and seasoned yogi alike
