Clean, welcoming, and full of caring staff — this YMCA really does a good job for folks.
The front desk team is always kind and helpful, and communication is usually pretty good. Admin is generally available, though scheduling outside events can be a little tricky at times. The programs and kid care feel safe and supportive, and it’s offered at a price that makes sense compared to the bigger, flashier places. Overall, it’s a solid community spot that tries hard to take care of people.
Let’s be real stuff is hard people are challenging and not everyone can complain everyone. As someone told me as an old adage if you’re upset about it getting involved.

Nope!
Not worth having the membership!
The pool is closed most of the time.
The shower water is cold like anything!
Since I was not getting the value I wanted to cancel my membership literary on 26 but they said I missed the deadline to cancel the membership which was 25!
My complaint was not heard!
Good luck on having my one month membership fee!
Be aware before signing up for membership!
Total scam!

I bought a membership for me and my son. The shallow pool for kids is rarely open, and the posted schedule changes regularly. I checked the online schedule and even called ahead twice to make sure it was open but no one picks up the phone. I showed up after packing up a toddler to find that it was closed due to insufficient staffing. Once this happened a SECOND TIME I knew this was not going to work. The lifeguard on duty was very apologetic, admitted to me that this was a recurring issue, and suggested that I talk with her manager. The steam rooms are often closed and the posted HIIT room schedules aren't always accurate either so I have been kicked out of the main room I use a couple of times. I called on 6/27 to cancel the membership for 7/1 and was told I would get automatic deduction anyway because it needed to be done 6/25. I asked to just talk to someone who I could reason with as I was not getting value out of my membership and was sent to leave a voicemail that no one returned. Lo and behold I have been charged for July. Good luck!

I mainly use the pool , and its very clean. The staff is wonderful, and the temperature has been perfect. I heard they had problems last winter. But those appear largely over now. When i use the weights and training areas, its been accessible and clean. The steam room has been spotty, but that's par for the course. All and all very nice. Some details remain. But clean, warm and well plowed in winter.

My whole family and I love coming here! My kids are safe and thrive in the adventure zone kids area while we workout. The staff know and love them, it’s the best!
The workout area has tons of options, and in the mornings when I go it isn’t crowded at all. We love the family pool and I enjoy the steam room often! Highly recommend!

No option for < 1 star 👎
“Calm Room” scheduled for 1 hr class is technically blocked off for 1.5 hrs. (15 min setup and 15 min “clean up”).. a saturday class with 1 person in it while common areas are being used for personal training classes. Literally nowhere to use a foam roller other than the hallway. This is ridiculous - $68 sign up fee in June + $37 a month. You won’t miss me bc you’re over selling memberships but this is bad business operations. Live in Arvada and will find another gym.

Ok gym but multiple trainers tie up multiple equipment that has little to no redundancy for extended periods of time. Kind of inconsiderate to other members.

Sarah in membership and Joe in wellness did an amazing job helping my household get set up for egym. They were accommodating to our previous experience with the system and streamlined the process for us! The experience helped to quell some doubts I’ve had about this location.

The steam room has been broken for 20 days, supposedly was fixed yesterday and is now broken again. If you list an amenity, you should do everything to make sure you have the amenity. After talking to other members, this occurred for approximately 3 months last year, which tells me this is a reoccurring issue that hasn't been solved. This a major part of my daily workout and to list an amenity, it should be addressed if not working. Unfortunately, I signed up for an annual membership otherwise I would go to a place that provided the amenities listed.

Great gym if you’re ok with only 2/3 of what you pay for being operational at any one time. Typical Y where ages 8–80 get the short end of the stick

I don't understand all the haterade in these reviews. I've been a gym rat for 20+ years and this is a great gym for an old school Arnold workout with a touch of crossfit. Locker rooms are updated but the bathrooms look old... BUT I will tell you the showers and bathrooms are way cleaner than 24 hour. Solid gym.

I went into the Y yesterday for the first time to try a three day pass out and see if this would be my new gym. The gym is very clean and taken care of well but the biggest thing that stood out to me was the customer service and care that Lisa at the front desk gave me explaining the ins and outs of the gym, where things are, and making me feel very welcomed. Props to Lisa!

I've been to many YMCA'S coached for a couple of them.
This YMCA is amazing. Starts with Management, Veronica is Phenomenal At her job of customer experience manager and GM. She leads the staff that's professional customer service oriented and holds the highest values in a fitness center i've ever seen. The facility itself is spotless and has everything you could ever want in a fitness center. You don't notice the experience of friendliness and are willing to help you the minute you walk in. They are all there to serve their customers and do so.
I highly recommend this facility if you're looking for the best and all of it. This centers around.

They cancelled some fall sports for first time this year, coaches don't show for toddler soccer camp, dancing class cancelled without anyone informing us, swim lessons cancelled and pool has been closed forever. Constant cancellations for all kinds of programs, AC didn't work for 2 months! in the Fyzcal PT room and management is very disorganized.
Front Desk, Kid watch, preschool team are excellent.

Usually pretty great!
Patrons leave the weights seats way too wet with cleaning fluid. There have been signs in the past but they need to be enforced and reposted. My shorts get wet from the person before me, or sometimes as much as 3 rotations before me. Never seems to be any staff on the weights floor lately.
I know money is tight all over but still. We pay every month for facilities we hardly get to use.
We ALWAYS wipe down our equipment, but if two of us from the same household are using it one after the other, we don't wipe in between. The equipment is often sopping from overspray

I have been going here for the past 10 years on and off due to COVID. The staff has always been friendly, helpful and accommodating. I arrive at the gym at 9am with my son to play basketball and workout. There is at least 200 kids in and outside the facility for summer camp. Using the entire basketball court, outside court, outside field and swimming pool. Additionally, they have classes scheduled in secondary gym with hoops until 3pm. I asked the front desk attendant when the building will be available for members to use it. The summer camp has all the above reserved Monday-Friday 630am-530pm. I was also informed this will be going almost every week all summer. I understand that the Y has kids camps, but there was no notice of this and to take up the entire facility all-day? There has to be a better solution to continue to allow members access to the facility.

I recently started going back to this gym after a two year hiatus. The place is clean, lots of different equipment and staff are friendly! I was having trouble scheduling some classes but once I called, Veronica answered and helped me through how to get started. I am now able to register for classes with ease. Thank you, Veronica! I look forward to many swim and yoga classes!

Denver gyms have had their membership grow massively in the last few years and I hate waiting for machines for a long time or dealing with crowded workout areas. This YMCA is Denver’s hidden secret. I have had to wait for a machine once in my few weeks of membership and I come at peak times (around 5-6 pm after work).
The facility is always clean and staff is nice. They are also consistently making renovations to make it even better. I love that they have multiple olympic lifting racks and really nice and functional machines.
My only complaints are that a lot of patrons don’t wipe down equipment after they use it but that’s everywhere. And that the hot tub is permanently closed because repairs and maintenance were too pricey. (just a bummer, not a deal breaker!) And I do wish the weekend hours were better (could be open later on Fridays and longer hours on Sundays).
I drive 15 minutes out of my way for this place and I am so impressed and grateful as it makes my workouts stressfree.
I haven’t been to any classes yet or used the pool but I will update my review when I do that.
It’s definitely a hidden gem for an awesome price.

I have been a member for more than four years, I have coached there, my kids did swim team, etc. we were active members of the YMCA. This morning I was working out there and I was on the bike. I was short of breath, so I put down my mask. Right away one of the staff comes and tells me I have to get my mask or leave. The tone was rude and raised his voiced. I am very disappointed. I am fully vaccinated, and I felt that my long standing membership matters nothing to them, so I decided to canceled my membership. Never again.

I love this place, but I think lap swim should be first come first served. I understand covid rules are different, but some people only swim for 20 minutes at a time, myself included. That's 25 minutes of swim time wasted. I've been to other locations in the US this year that use a line system, socially distanced, and it works very well. I'm sure the building is going to push this suggestion aside with a generic message like, "due to the safety and health blah blah blah..." but I still think the current system is pretty bad and should be updated.

It was a great season, but in a playoff game the referee quit on us on the spot because he thought our player said something to him which he did not, therefore we had to end our season because the referee quit on us, then we sat for 2 hours while we waited for the athletic director to give us a reasoning which he couldn’t in the end, so we sat there for 2 and a half hours while we could have been productive, I’m very disappointed

Editing to add:
Unparalleled kindness from staff on this cold, snowy night, October 29th. Despite an early closing due to the weather, Amanda went so completely out of her way to help, I feel it needs to be acknowledged here. Thank you again. I’m warmed in more ways than one!
Original review:
I haven’t been going to this YMCA for long but I have no idea why anybody would complain about any of the staff I’ve encountered so far. Everyone has seemed friendly and polite and unfailingly (again, so far) greets you when you go in the door. The facilities compared to YMCAs I have seen in the past are fantastic. I love that the weight room and the treadmills have window views, And when it’s raining I can hackysack in one of the unused basketball courts or studios. You just can’t beat it for the price, even as a single adult. Pool, hello! Other perks include a whirlpool, steam room, and coffee, though for all I know those have become standard. At any rate, I recommend giving this place visit so you can see for yourself that it’s just dandy. :)

I have used the Duncan YMCA for close to 20 years. The staff has always been very nice and accommodating and helpful. Many classes are offered for all age groups and activities. This Y is busy all the time, so that must tell you something..!! Operating from 5am to 9pm is a lot of expense for staffing and facility maintenance, hence the user fees, which are very reasonable. Plus, if you are in real need financially, the Y has scholarships available. Many naysayers frequent these comment sites. The Duncan YMCA is a real blessing to have in the Arvada and surrounding community. Thx you YMCA. David J Burry

The staff are polite. However, the people they let in are very rude. Over the past several years attending this gym I have been continuously harassed and have been insulted with several remarks that should not have been tolerated. I would have rated this review with five stars, but with the treatment I have received and with no staff around to report it to, this gym only deserves two stars.

If you want to go to the YMCA or do anything there and you are not a member, good luck don't waste your time. They only allow you to go in if you are a YMCA member. Staff was very rude about it. Super unhappy with my experience. You're a freaking Rec Center let the community use you without trying to squeeze every single penny out of me. Apex is closed, so I tried to use this facility but they only care about money and not their community. Very unhappy.

I’m writing to counter the long winded negative review prior to mine. It’s totally unfair. If you’ve ever visited any other YMCA you would know this has got to be one of the best. It’s a nonprofit, not a high-end swanky club. Yet it has many of the extra’s you would find at a place three times the cost. They have been highlighted in other reviews.
Regarding the daycare; these people actually care about the kids that attend. They do their best to maintain a clean and professional environment and it shows. I have twins that they take care of several times a week and my only complaint is that we can’t send them there more.

The best YMCA I have seen so far. I live far south but frequently travel up to Denver for outdoor activities. Today, one my way back from hiking up in the mountains, I wanted to check this place out. I should say I was totally impressed.
First, as a YMCA member I thought I can visit any Y within the state for free but the front desk folks informed me that I can go to any Y for free Nationwide. They made sure I won't have any troubles signing in to any Y anywhere in the nation.
Second, I am totally awestruck by the amenities in addition to the usual facilities, they provide in the locker rooms - fresh towels, shampoo, body lotion, after shave, shaving foam, what not.
I would go there everyday if I am living in that area.

Don't get foolish
This is not a family place.
They charge family membership almost double but the family areas are extremely poorly and discriminated when you compare to the adults and the elderly rooms
If you complain, they will ignore and be really mean to you and to your child but if it is an elderly they will immediately they action
Pool is high in chlorine, people do not shower before using the pool and the family bathroom, that is also for individuals with disabilities and all sexes, does not have the same amenities as the adult and elderly rooms
You will pay the family membership to subside the elderly rate and get less of a facility area to use and with poor maintenance
There are other rec centers that charge the same but more and better family-based amenities

My family and I (kids, wife, parents) have been members for 10+ years. The Y is a great place for whatever you need in health and wellness -- gym, pool, pilates, exercise classes, kids sports, child watch, swim lessons. There is also a social aspect for both the over 50 crowd and younger families.
Gyms come and go, community focal points are much harder to find, and at the value the Y offers, not sure why anyone goes anywhere else.
