Great place to exercise. Lots of options from free weights to machines. Plenty of equipment even when crowded.

Have had great experience at the Downtown YMCA. Staff has been friendly and accommodating. They have all the amenities one could hope for in the downtown area. Steam room/ hot tub would be amazing but I primarily play basketball and weight lift. Plan to check out some of the various classes offered… and the pool! Looking forward to my next visit!

We enrolled our child in basketball to try something new (they've never played a day in their life) and we took a leap of faith despite the heavy price tag. We had one practice last week and our first game this week where we were absolutely demolished by the other team that had obviously been playing together for quite some time and had a significantly higher skillset than our team. This was later confirmed by the opposing coach that the other team had been attending three skill sessions a week with the coach personally over a period of time. There is no way that this team was formed or happened by coincidence. The YMCA has created a process of allowing teams to be stacked during registration. During the game there was an employee who could have made changes. Instead they did nothing. The Y states on their website, "the Y is committed to empowering people to reach their full potential, to improving well-being, inspiring action, strengthening communities and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to become healthier, more confident, connected and secure" was not reflected at any point during the game. In fact, it was the exact opposite. Our team did not feeling empowered after playing against a highly skilled team, our players will not reach full potential when there wasn't even a fighting chance, and to be clear this was not confidence building this was demoralizing. I'm saddened that this was my child's first experience at trying a new sport, that the YMCA allowed this to happen during registration, and that their employees who had an opportunity to step in during the game remained apathetic and did nothing. I don't recommend signing your child up to play sports here unless you want a less than favorable experience.

I showed up at the YMCA of Colorado Springs hoping to better myself. What I got was a post-apocalyptic training ground where New Year’s resolutions go to die.
The moment you walk in, you’re hit with the faint aroma of chlorine, defeat, and whatever spirit still haunts the locker room showers. The front desk staff stare through you like they’ve accepted their fates long ago. I tried to scan my card; the machine beeped like it was crying for help.
Inside, the weight room looks like a battlefield where every machine has seen unspeakable horrors. Half the treadmills are stuck on “brisk jog through hell,” and the TVs above them play Fox News and Cooking with Paula Deen on loop. There’s one working fan, and it’s pointed directly at the ceiling, where it’s doing nothing but circulating the ghosts of failed spin classes.
The pool? Imagine Fight Club but underwater. The lifeguard looks like they haven’t slept since the Obama administration, and the water temperature alternates between “glacier runoff” and “soup of regrets.”
The sauna smells like a wet gym sock achieved sentience. I sat next to a guy muttering, “This is how it ends,” and honestly, he might’ve been right.
Somewhere deep in the basement, I’m convinced there’s a secret class where middle-aged men punch punching bags and whisper, “I am Jack’s inflamed rotator cuff.”
By the end of my visit, I realized the truth: this isn’t a gym — it’s a social experiment. A test of endurance. The YMCA of Colorado Springs doesn’t make you stronger. It strips you down until you find strength in the chaos.
And yet… I’ll probably be back tomorrow.

Well the part came in for the steam room and was installed since it broke down a month ago. You call to find out if it's fixed and they tell you it's working fine. However, when you go in the temperature is 85°! Dry Sauna no longer working. Only 82°. How do you create steam in a steam room at 85°. Seriously....It's still broken and are still paying full price for Plus Membership and no communication from any of the administrator about this situation. Going on 2 months paying full plus membership price without a working steam room or sauna. That is what we paid for. When asking the front desk if it's going to be fixed, they say they have no idea. Asked if we will be reimbursed for a broken locker room and was told themat they are looking into something for that. Well, we are still being charges full Plus Membership Rates. So why do they keep saying when you call to find out if it's actually working that it is working when it's still non-functioning. Will be complaining to the main YMCA as the Downtown Colorado Springs YMCA is ripping off their members. Will be canceling my membership and joining Vasa where they upgrade their equipment and the care if their Saunas and Steam Rooms to keep their members happy. There is definitely something wrong with how this YMCA is being managed.

Update...Mens Plus Steam Room and Sauna still not functioning and members still being charged for a non-functioning locker room.
Mens Plus area has been down for 3 weeks now. No updates or information on the website or there is no longer a FB page explaining why the steam room or dry sauna are no longer working or will be fixed. No communication from anyone from the desk area except we they themselves are waiting for an update through email. Will members still be charged the Plus membership this month or August? We should not be charged the Men's Plus Rate for the time it has been broken. Another question, will it ever be fixed?

Parking was limited in a not well lit parking garage. Big fans blowing on basketball courts so assuming issues with the HVAC system. Facility itself could use several upgrades. Showed up for my daughter's 1st volleyball practice to nothing being setup, no coach and very little communication from staff on what was going on so after 30min of waiting for a coach and no answers from the staff, we left. Big waste of time and my daughter was extremely bummed.

Had a membership here for about 18 months. The jump start lesson with a personal trainer was a big incentive. I waited a couple months for them to reach out (as they said they would), then I inquired several times about getting on the schedule. No one reached back out, ever, so I gave up trying. Oh well, this is pretty much the only place in town with racquet ball courts...

I like the lap pool. There isn't a kids play pool or hot tub. The ladies' locker room is nicer than the Armed Forces Jet Wing YMCA. They fitness area has a great walking path with curved corners and ifitnessmachines to help you easily track your workouts. The free weights are great as well.

The elevator has been out of service for over a week. I just witnessed someone, who should have been using the elevator, get stuck on the stairs. I think it's disgraceful that a community oriented organization has failed to provide equitable access to its patrons.

Summer Camp 5/6 year olds:
We will not be returning. This week at summer camp has been a poor experience for our child. She came home reporting mean staff, lunch has been u touched and she’s been clingy. For any child this is a red flag. So today my spouse dropped in just to check on her. She encountered the above counselor yelling/demanding these young kids. I am sorry but they are 5/6 years old and there to have fun. My child as well as a few others looked sad and scared. Our child wanted to swim so it was stated we would come back and get her. Little did your counselor know my spouse stayed and watched. Again, 5/6 year olds were sitting with out getting into the pool for 20+ minutes. As kids got up because what 5 year olds sits still, she was yelling for them to sit down, pointing and towering over them. As a social worker this body language is concerning. But the audacity to continue talking to children that way is unacceptable. My spouse took our child home. We will not be returning. This week was nothing but a waste of money and long nights/mornings of crying not wanting to go. As a ymca kid/prior ymca employee in NC/SC that’s disheartening.

It has been three years since I came to the gym. As you can imagine I felt pretty overwhelmed. Where should I start? Will my body Remember how to navigate the space without feeling pain and mental overwhelm. Lucky for me I walked into a safe space filled with welcoming faces and an environment that was fresh, affordable and offered a gentle way to start. It just so happened I walked into a free promotional month called Fitness New Year bingo, so instead of being an overwhelmed and scared returning gym enthusiast, I just picked a square and went for it. Little by little I found myself accomplishing mileage on the treadmill, doing diverse weight exercises, swimming 1000 meters in a heated pool, and laughing away my stress on the court playing pickle ball with the locals. Thank you Chris K, Elaina, the kind custodial team, and all the folks that everyday choose YMCA and help create this motivational, fun and non stress environment.

I used to love this place. I was willing to pay more than other fitness clubs because of the community. However, they recently decided to eliminate Les Mills group exercise classes without any input from members or instructors. There will be a mass exodus of high quality instructors. In addition, they decided to raise member rates. They’re already way more expensive than VASA. Their membership costs simply aren’t justifiable anymore.

I’m highly disappointed in the director, Nessa who made my 10 year old and I feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome on his first visit by arguing with me about the membership. I was told I didn’t need one but had to be with him as long as I don’t use the equipment or amenities. So why have great staff to sell memberships and have terrible management to run people off and offer cancellations of memberships on their first visit? Looks like you need a better director!!

Fun time and friends at the Downtown YMCA!
I had a wonderful experience at the Downtown YMCA! Janet's water aerobics classes seem to create a supportive and friendly environment that fosters both recovery and fitness. This welcoming community, made me feel like part of a tight-knit group. Hopefully I will have the chance to return to those classes in the future when life allows it. I'm giving my reasons why I'm giving a 3 star rating I feel like I have terrible luck when it comes to going to this Y in the past but I don't now thankfully years ago I was told by one of the lifeguards in the swimming pool that we were going to have a fire drill I went swimming with my friend that time also and we had to get out of the pool and change back into our street clothes a Fire Drill at a workout gym shouldn't happen like this in a public place it makes us feel like we are back in school as if we didn't know any better note this was a practice fire drill not a real one everyone was O.K when that occurrence happened but at least the Pool is bigger and deeper at this location and this is the only location where they allow diving on the deepest side of the pool

Terribly , terribly rude. I was halfway through my recumbent bike cardio,(knee, hip and lower back). I had to p , I was gone less than a minute, I didn't want to lose my heart rate. When I got back in spite of my water bottle and glasses being in plain sight a selfish and grabby person had taken the bike and asked ever so innocently "were you still using this?"

Large gym with convenient location and covered parking. The front staff is typically very nice and there is strong community feel to this gym. The steam room is great in the men’s plus areas, but strange they charge $25 a month for access. There is a broken hot tub in there which they have no intention of repairing. The work out area has everything you need but doesn’t have ac (or maybe they just don’t run it much) and not the best ventilation, I don’t mind since I like to get a good sweat in.
I did have a couple of extremely strange instances with Fernando who was running the front desk by him self the first time and clearly stressed about it. I could tell upon walking up and made an effort to be kind though he responded with blatant rudeness, I shrugged it off. After my work out I stopped by so he could show me the men’s plus room, I asked him a question while walking to the locker room which he completely ignored. The woman in front of us turned around thinking I was speaking to her, when she asked me I mentioned it was just him ignoring me to which he said “oh excuse me I didn’t want to startle you”. Again I shrugged it off.
What was reeeeally strange, the next time I visited he pulled me to the side for a conversation about how it was ME who was rude to HIM. I mentioned the instance which he ignored my question and he responded “I didn’t hear you” in contrast to what he said in the moment.
He insisted we “agree to disagree” to which I said fine, water under the bridge. First time I’ve ever been gaslit by a front desk person at a gym in my 20+ years of going to many different gyms. I hesitated even writing this review but thought it may be helpful to upper management to hear a first hand experience.
This place could use a large overhaul and management that cares more about the customer experience, it has potential to be an excellent gym. Clearly it’s an ongoing issue from the previous reviews & my personal experiences.

I was a member Downtown YMCA for 3 months while I was living in Colorado Springs and absolutely loved it! I have been a member of the YMCA my whole life. I have finally had enough of this gym and cancelled my membership. The basement is muggy, filled with outdated equipment and smells like old people feet. There is no views. The hours are the worst gym hours of all time. My wife is constantly harassed by the staff for dress code. Yesterday, she wore a full body covered 1-piece with spaghetti straps and was asked to leave. It's 100 degrees outside and we have to ask for permission to turn a fan on in this limited access basement with no AC. Sick of the way this gym treats it's members. If you're 80 years old and will pay for personal training, you're their prime member. I watched clear discrimination as the staff didn't know we were together. As soon as I spoke up, their tone drastically changed. I would give 0 stars if it were an option.

I do enjoy coming to this YMCA. It's close to my house, has many fitness activities to engage in, and absolutely love the gym. Very diverse. Older place, but is clean.
Today I had a bad experience with the front desk.
The lady at the desk said she could hold onto my keys this one time as I haven't purchased a lock yet for the locker room.
About 30 minutes later, during my workout. Fernando comes down to bring me my keys then says they can not be responsible for them. Ruins my workout completely just by his attitude and how he says it. He has this attitude every time I come in which is 4-5 days a week for the last couple months. I pay about 70$ a month here, the least he could have done was waited until I was finished with my daily workout to let me know I can't leave them at the desk again. I would have been fine with that.
I've seen this guy treat other people fine, why do I get treated like I'm some misfit?
I was so furious, I just left and went back to my house.
Sure hope I don't have another bad experience like today, or I will be cancelling my membership.
Thanks.

The YMCA has become a GREEDY organization. Not long ago the outdoor pools were included in your membership package. Now its over $200 more for a pool pass for a member to more to use the outdoor pools as well and $475 dollars for a pass if your a non member! The Y has bought up a lot of the outdoor pools in the town so I guess they have a monopoly of GREED! Every year this place gets more expensive!!! I hope people stop donating to this greedy organization and find better organizations to give to that arent so GREEDY!!!

Since I travel I've had the chance to experience quite a few Ys and this one's great.
I use the swimming pool and the gym in the basement.
The facility is very clean which is not a given.

I'm definitely not an expert weight lifter but I have no complaints when it comes to availability or state of equipment.

Is a great Y- I assumed it would be tiny because of location, but it is big and has a variety of activities from multiple pools to sports courts, to childcare and of course with huge work out room. Work out room is on basement, but it is well lit and cares for. There are also tables to get some work done in a sunny hall in the back. Great location, will keep coming back. Ps- also nice how walkable it is.. it’s right next to Acacia park- see images. But great to go to y and then take the kiddos on a stroller ride downtown.

Only been to this location maybe 16 times during my time in the Springs from 1984 - 1997. It is a great YMCA with many programs to offer. I used it during my drill weekend as an Army Reservist sometimes. But, my problem was with the homeless that plagued the downtown area at night and didn't feel safe. It is even worse now with homeless pot smoking bums thanks to Colorado legalizing marijuana, and Colorado's soft on crime policies make downtown a very unsafe environment.

The front desk is not very polite. Some are but most aren’t. I called before my daughters first swimming lesson to see if my husband could come watch. The lady on the phone said yes it shouldn’t be a problem. The next day when we showed up she said no he couldn’t...it was the same lady with a very distinct accent. So we went to the pool and there were dads sitting around the pool already to watch their kids? She caught my husband and said he could go luckily. After her 4 lessons, I went to sign up for the next month (different lady) and was surprised when I didn’t pay anything, so I assumed they charged the card I used for the last lesson. Well I get home and see that I’m put in the waiting list?! Why didn’t she tell me this? It would’ve been nice to know that. Otherwise we love the teachers and lifeguards in her swim class but the front desk..eh.

I have been a member of the YMCA since I was a child and this place continues to go downhill. Promises of a new building seem to be a dream now. It would be nice if the older gentlemen that works in the gym at nights would pay attention to the members instead of working out and looking at himself in the mirror. The other employees clean and engage with members while he acts like a member. The pool is OK, needs updating and cleaning. With that said, it is easy to get a time to do my laps. IT would also be great it they actually made the racquetball players wear their masks.

I’ve been going to the Downtown Y since I was a teenager and the staff at the front judge me right when I walk in the door. Even when my sister and I were leaving the facility, one of the front desk workers shook his head cause he was going to have to check us out on the way out. The staff at the front desk really make it uncomfortable for me to just come to the gym. However the staff downstairs in the workout room are very pleasant. I just wish I wouldn’t be looked at differently because of my age and gender. Also, there are some creepy old men that work out in the bottom, and I’ve had to tell one man to stop staring at my sister and I. To add on, a lot of the time the staff isn’t wearing their masks properly but expect every member to wear it properly.

I truly understand why he's in charge at this location and he is a wonderful representative of YMCA and their Vision as a company. I cannot thank him enough for his time effort and hard work on my situation and I will be a YMCA member for life because of my experience today

Poor upkeep and customer service unfortunately. As the only option downtown it would be great to have an awesome local gym, sadly this is not the case. If Vasa or 24hr Fitness were downtown them those would be a better option. A lot of the gym equipment is dated and worn down to the point of not operating very well. I mostly just use the free weights so I get around it. They have a much higher fee than other gyms especially for what is offered. The weight room is located in a basement which isn’t the most ideal environment. During the COVID shutdown they actually raised the membership prices by 50% which was pretty nifty.
Overall, I would highly recommend another gym with a better crowd and more updated equipment. Location is the only benefit here, which may not be enough to keep me.

I love racquetball, that's the only reason I enroll in the YMCA. I take my 2 children to racquetball clinics every Saturday with coach Kim, AND THEY LOVE IT. Please consider the construction of racquetball courts at the new facilities. There's a huge demand of courts. The 7 existing courts get packed regularly.

Was there today for a bit. The parking lot is right next to the building and has several floors of parking. Front desk was very friendly and helpful which I can appreciate. The layout was pretty all over the place. HLC was downstairs and there was a track surrounding the equipment. But that doesn’t really affect your workout. Very nice people!

Customer service is garbage!!!
After being charged incorrectly for my membership fee for the month of July, I was told I would have my family membership rate adjusted to the correct rate for the month of Aug and a refund issued. The refund never came. I spent a week calling everyday and getting the run around. I was either being told I would get a call back or that the refund was processed. Needless to say I never got my refund for their screw up so we’ve cancelled our membership all together. I don’t like when people just tell you what you want to hear just to get you off the phone.
Update: still haven’t received my refund for the month of July and after cancelling I was still charged for the month of August. They just keep taking my money.

Overall this is a nice facility. The staff is also very polite. The reason I gave it two stars is because in the men's locker room there are 5 shower stalls. If I am to be extremely honest all the shower stalls work, but 4 of the shower stalls have a very weak stream of water coming out of them. It is not easy to get shampoo and conditioner out of my hair in these shower stalls. One shower stall does have a very powerful water stream coming out of it. Now there are about 3 open showers that have a very powerful water stream.

I feel welcomed at all of the Pikes Peak YMCAs that I have visited. The staff are friendly and willing to help and the community is helpful and friendly. There is always a class available or a location available to fit my busy schedule needs. The Y is very family friendly, my family has grown up in the Y. We feel at home when we are working out there.

what I already replied you in Facebook but I love the place and I don't know why you keep on asking me the same question over and over again I think it's great for the kids pick for the adults is where you can work out get away from everything I'm glad they're open at 5 because people want to do an early workout before they head out to work or take care of our kids or whatever else these people our parents and went to earlier they get up they work out they take pick up their kids from at home taking the school course now it's summertime now the summertime the kids actually have a place to go once a month they have so many things to do special affairs even picnics during the summer or movies or whatever specially when it deals with kids and adults this month they're going to have an opportunity to have a drive-in and a picnic for celebrating for being a member

I started out as a member of the YMCA 11 years ago. Within a year, I found my place in the water aerobics world and got back into teaching classes. I started out at once a week and then moved to three times a week.
My kids have grown up at this facility. They learned to swim and tried out a variety of sports including: soccer, baseball, lacrosse, volleyball, basketball. They have been involved in many of the programs offered.
I have also gotten involved and tried many classes as well as volunteered in a variety of departments. This is a great location to become part of a community that will quickly become family.

edit: 10 months later. They still have not gotten in contact with me.
My 5 yr old went to a "schools out" day here. I picked my daughter up at the park after the front desk told me they "think" they our out there. My daughter was crying because she was so cold. 1. They did not check the temperature before going outside. 2. The children were outside with no coats. I had called later that day to speak with the director, and left a message. I never did get a reply.
I have worked with kids for for 7 yrs. How the hell do you not check the weather and make sure kids have coats on. You can give them the choice of going out with a coat or staying inside.
This place is an absolute joke!

For the price of premium health spa you get an old downtown gym. Maintenance on anything critical is 3-6 weeks and many lower priority maintenance items never get done. The racquetball courts have gone three weeks without heat in December! This makes it hard to have a workout routine. Update, they have made some improvements lately.

i go for the gym. during peak hours its not too bad... sometimes it seems like there are nonguest or promotion days as kids "tour" the equipment leaving weights on every barbell. i shouldnt have to correct them verbally and then put away their baby weight they leave as i go through my routine. place is clean but i wish they would switch to sanitation wipes instead of a shammy and bleach spray bottle. the shammy gets so wet its disgusting. pool is nice but havnt seen an open swim without lanes yet... lanes are great for athlete swimmers but not kids... two lanes would be enough... staff is always courteous.

I have been a member at the YMCA for about 20 years. Recently I decided to cancel my membership as I no longer wish to use the facility. I called to do so and was told that I needed to come there and fill out a form. This is simply bad customer service and a vein attempt to keep charging me $60 a month. So, I asked to speak with a manager because my time is valuable and I cannot take an hour to drive there and back and fill out unnecessary paperwork. I left Dean Halverman a message and he never even returned the call. Ultimately, I blocked their debit with my bank. When will people learn that customer service is key to any organization...
Subsequently, after posting a negative review and leaving him another message, I heard from Dean an he agreed to suspend my membership. I did appreciate this but still feel that this policy should be improved.

When we first got our YMCA passes we were all so excited!! We went the next day, no problem. When we went for the second day we wanted to play racket ball. So we reserved a room and got rackets. We went to go to the courts, a little after the the time we reserved it for, and there were still people in it. i get it if it’s like 5 minutes after., but not 10 and after waiting there, went to the desk to like tell them and return the rackets. We arrived at the desk and one person was working there with a huge line. On top of that the lady was on the phone. When i got to the desk she said okay and took the rackets and began to still talk on the phone. She didn’t even take into consideration of my complaint. I’m dissatisfied :(

I decided the YMCA would be good for my four kids during the winter. I am a single Mom and it was a stretch to pay the fees each month, but the kids love swimming. When I went in to cancel at the end of March they informed me I was one day late to cancel. They need five days notice, not four.
I explained I am a single parent and couldn't afford another month but they said there wasn't anything they could do. So we had the additional month of April. On May first they charged my account again. I called and they reversed the charges.
The fact I was charged again after I expressed my lack of finances and that I was not allowed to cancel when I was a day late shows me this organization cares more about money than ministry.

I use the place. It gets the job done. It's not like lifetime fitness at all. The child watch hours are terrible along with weekend hours of the gym. And the men's plus locker room is bizarre. Old guys hanging out naked, sitting down and laying down in the steam room naked. They put their bare asses and balls every where. It's the strangest locker room I've ever been in.

I go here a few times a week to play volleyball at lunchtime. The staff is always very friendly, and I love the convenience and great group of people I get to workout with. There are 2 things that make me say 4 and not 5 stars. They do not air condition or heat the upstairs gymnasium where we play vball. They have the vents and return grille in place which makes me think that their conditioning equipment has just gone into disrepair, which makes me think that they could put a little bit more into the facility to keep it nice. In Colorado it isn't too huge of a deal, but it does get quite hot in there in the summer. Additionally, we have a YMCA scheduled time that is for adult volleyball, and some times we arrive and the equipment is not set up. I just really love the volleyball and the convenience, so they still get 4 stars!

For me, this Y is like going to a spa, clean, and hospitable but without the pampering. The atmosphere in the locker room is welcoming and hospitable. I enjoy the friendly staff, (who know most everyone by name), the exercise classes and the caring and knowledgeable trainers. While I wait in the lobby for my husband to finish racquetball, I can relax, reading and having a tea in one of their comfortable chairs.

Expect a great, no-frills workout in a convenient location. The facility features a large pool, racquetball courts, basketball court, fitness and weight-lifting center, and a variety of low-priced classes. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and are committed to improving the overall well-being of their members. Free parking in the adjacent garage. There is a sliding scale fee for low-income people who cannot afford the full membership fee; you just have to ask and bring your paystubs to prove your income status. Also, membership at a single YMCA facility allows you to use any YMCA facility across the Pikes Peak region, from Monument to Fountain.
