This gym is fine when it comes to equipment. Really, it has a lot of equipment & different rooms that you can go to.
With that being said, I’ve never been to a gym where so many people “hold” aka hog so many machines/equipment when they’re doing their workout on 3 to 4 different machines.Especially in the peak hours, really even, non-peak hours, of the morning or in the evening when some of us have that time to get our workout in and we’re having to wait 45 mins on a hack-squat or smith machine, for example, because somebody’s doing a circuit of: walking lunges across the whole gym, then going to the Smith machine, then going to the leg press, then kettlebells, and then come back to the hack squat, doing six sets.
There will be a water bottle on one machine, a phone at the other a sweater hanging off the other machine all to “hold” the machines. It’s about character and respect to other people’s time and being considerate.

READ THE FINE PRINT. Twice I spoke to someone about canceling my membership and once they didn't tell me about the cancelation form or that I would still get charged for one more month, so I fill out the form and still never got told that I would get charged for another month, when I called they stated that it says on the form that they charge for the next month but that is something that should be verbalized. Obviously if someone is canceling they don't want another month of membership they want to end the agreement, never have I heard of a cancelation where you still pay for another month even after you cancel that's just saying we're going to get one more payment from you even if you don't come in for a whole month. Greedy and shady is what it is. I would recommend the rec center or Anytime Fitness before going here.

Came back after a long hiatus, signed up, found out they had not kept the facility clean nor in good repair, tried to cancel my membership after three days, and they charged me for two months and the annual fee for 72 hours of potential use. Do not trust these thieves, they will take advantage of you.

I really want to like this gym, I really do. But I struggle to come here. I feel like the arrangement of the equipment is poor - for example, all of the free weights are on one wall, making it very difficult for more than a few people to use the free weights at a time...& there's a lot of congregation around the lower weight. Why not spread the weights out a bit on different walls, or maybe put some of the more popular lower weights at both ends of the free weight section? Also, there are a lot of machines in the center of the room that don't seem to get much use, and it feels very crowded.

I also wish that the kettlebells were not in the Functional room because the room is closed where there is a class.

Perhaps this is standard with gyms, but their cancelation policy is strict and they always charge you one more month, no matter when you come in to cancel. No cancelations over the phone, no online cancelations - you have to come in. Just inconvenient.

Last thing is that the entire gym could use with a deep clean. The machines are dingy and need some love.

I'm out in Colorado for a month with my aunt and i am doing football and we do weight room for football back in Michigan and I wanted to go for football so i can be prepared for football but no. My aunt would have to be there with me at all times and I had to be older but im 14 and i know what I'm doing but nope now i got no where to go and cant stay caught up with my team now.

I came in here because I just joined Anytime Fitness and my key fob didn’t work at the location in Montrose and the owners weren’t there during their staffed hours. Popped in here for a day pass and glad I got to check it out! Large gym with great equipment, very clean. The hot tub may have been the first gym hot tub I’d ever seen I actually wished I had my shorts to hop in. Huge room for functional fitness has great equipment to work with. Overall great gym!

This is an excellent gym, all-around. My main interactions are with Faith and Jenae, the GM and Front-Desk manager. There is a great culture in place here and so much is offered for Gold's members on a day to day business. Facility-wise, it has all the bells and whistles but I'd still choose culture over fancy equipment. Fortunately, GG Montrose has both. My wife and I were both Gold's employees (front desk and trainers) at a location in Fayetteville, North Carolina for several years before moving to Montrose. We've owned and operated our own small gym in town and how a facility is run is very important to me. I believe Gold's is strong in customer service and overall club management. Managing a location this size is a challenge, day in and day out and Faith makes it look easy.

Every poor review here is about canceling memberships.
I emailed back in February that I need to cancel my membership due to work schedule changes. My account was paid up and I even paid an additional $200 for five days of personal training that I never used, nor did I ask for it to be refunded. The manager emailed me back and said, " I saw that you did pay yesterday which we can accept as your final draft and you can have access for the next 30 days, per the contract you signed you are subject to paying your annual membership fee which is $39. Any unpaid dues will be sent to collections",
Right out of the gate she is threatening me with the collection process, even though I paid them a total of $347, went to the gym ONE TIME, and never received a membership card.
She attached a cancelation form, and on the form where it says the amount you owe for a cancel fee, it says $0.00. So I mailed the form and did not send the addition cancel fee she said I owe since her form she sent me specified I did not owe one and the fact I paid them $347 for going one time. I did not even take advantage of the one-time free coupon.
Thought all of this was solved until I get a bill in the mail the other day saying I owe them $137 in membership fees. So today I have to email again and threaten small claims court. This time I attached a cancel form and circled where it says I owe zero.
I am glad members are happy there, I am sure it is a great gym, that is why I signed up. All of my communication with staff was wonderful (except for management). I would not have canceled if not for unforeseen scheduling issues.
However, keep all of your correspondence if you need to cancel, follow their policies, but be warned they will try and swindle you out of all they can. I hope the corporate office sees this and all the other bad reviews concerning this issue.

I cannot speak more highly of this gym. The equipment was extremely clean and of the highest quality. I was very impressed the professionalism of the staff, especially the front desk manager. The gym offers a diverse array of classes and programs to fit every fitness lifestyle and ability. The gym staff creates a safe environment and are more than willing to help or give advice. If you live in Montrose or are visiting the area, this should be your go-to gym.

Refused to honor my national golds gym membership. Said they no longer honor non-local memberships due to covid19. Yet they have a $10/pp day pass that I can pay for if I want to work out here.

Update: I have since been refunded my fees from this visit. Hopefully they have changed that policy and are now honoring others who come in with a valid national membership for Gold's Gym.

Arrived in the morning at the gym after being gone for a few months, did 25 min of cardio, and moved onto weight training. I was immediately approached and LIT UP by an early morning employee about not wearing a mask while walking from one piece of equipment to another (this type of rule makes absolutely no sense whatsoever IMO). I was completely caught off guard due to the fact I have been in good company with this particular employee for a very long time... I actually thought the employee was joking and pulling my leg. Not so.
I decided to end my relationship with Golds after being a member since 2016. The employee was more than motivated to end my membership while slamming cabinet doors, throwing handbooks on the counter, and giving me a speech about how masks would end COVID if everyone wore them. How embarrassing! This type of treatment to a loyal gym rat, member and veteran is inexcusable. I understand that face coverings are required but the fact that I was met with such a derogatory demeanor by this employee in front of other members all while they (members and employees) were not correctly wearing the mask as well is uncalled for.

The "manager" hung up on me after i called trying to figure out why my membership had not been cancelled. She refuses to fix a mistake made by her employee and says i never filled out the form to cancel my membership. Yet my kids club was cancelled and so was my auto draft sooo how does that work? Now they sent me to collections but gave me no notice. She said she called me many times which isn't the truth. Avoid this place. They also over charged me several times and had to refund me while i was going There.

I wish we had this gym on the front range. It is super clean, tons of cardio equipment of all varietys, have a wide variety of weight training equipment so you train certain muscle groups very effective and intensely, all the dumbbells, barbells, benches, and machines cable and plate loaded. They offer tons of classes and have a very friendly staff.

This is probably the nicest golds gym i have been to across the US. Very clean and everyone is very nice and helpful. The machines are very clean, and there was a ton of machines.
I was able to come in on a one day pass pretty easily, and it was not expensive. They also let me do heavy deadlifts in their functional room 😊 Great stuff!

If I could do no stars I would. I spoke to the staff about cancelling my membership, I came in, signed their paperwork and was told that I would not be charged again. The next month comes around and low and behold, not only do I get charged the next months fee, I get charged the yearly fees on top of that! I asked specifically when I signed the cancellation paperwork if we would be charged again and was told no. Apparently they have no problem lying to you. When I called to get an explanation and have the charges reversed I was told that there was nothing they could do. Never again will we use Golds Gym if this is how they treat their customers.

Buyer beware! I was on a month to month membership after my initial contract and moved away so had to cancel my membership. They continued to bill me after cancellation. They tell me I have to cancel in writing 30 days prior to cancellation. What a jacked up way to do business. I would recommend avoiding this company. Bad business practices. Montrose has a new Recreation Center so pass on Gold's Gym and join the Rec Center. Wish I had.

I signed up for a two year membership back in 2010 the member ship expired and for several years they didn't Bill me. This March they reactivated my membership without my knowledge. When I came in to ask about why I was being charged I was td that all there memberships automatically roll over to month to month billing, and the best they could do cancle the current membership.

1. Hot tub constantly broken.
2. No water station in the steam area where we need it.
3. No real maintenance schedule. Also on weekends there is often only ONE female employee on duty for the whole place. Very unsafe for her and us.
4. Most employees act as if any question scares them and they are not trained to answer with authority.
5. Little things like changing the clock at time changes seem to baffle them. Movies are constantly changed . They seem to care only about product sales, not customer service.
6. Showers are too often dirty.

7And most important-- they do not take using cell phones in the changing rooms seriously. Yes they have a policy but they do not enforce it or seem to care.

Once IN the gym area things seem fine but the amenities are always suspect. And as many have said before me-- the sauna is too cold and the steam room is too hot and they never listen to the customer complaints about it.

Excellent gym! The personal trainer Lou, is an amazing motivator and has helped me tremendously in achieving the look I desire. Everyone is friendly, especially the staff. Workout machines are in good condition and are repaired in a timely manner. New overhead lights there are great. If there is one thing I'd like to see there it would be a nice bright digital clock in the main training room so I don't have to use my phone to time my sets.

We were staying two nights at Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and decided to go here to take a shower. The day pass is $10 (and valid for 24 hr), but we came the next morning as well, so it was $5/person/shower! And, they have hot tub, steam room, and sauna as well!

They have no ethics. Have been trying to cancel for 2 months. They say I have to come down to the gym to cancel. In reality, they want to try to "save the membership" from cancelling. After I cancelled, it takes 30 days to cancel. Then I get hit with the "mandatory maintenance fees". How convenient they are "non-cancellable"

Cautious! They have an issue with stopping that auto withdrawal! It took me almost 2 years fighting with them as I had Spinal Cord Surgery and a Drs note, yet they continued to bill 18 months, I have spoken to several 'managers'...no one can help me! Now it will be a Court and Credit Card fraud issue!
They failed to change my address as I also moved out of their area, still are continuing to charge my card! UNREAL.

The golds gym is great here in Montrose. My favorite part is the cardio cinema room. I can go in there watch any movie and go 5 miles easily because I can put my concentration on the movie. The weight lifting area is great as well with the new equipment and good selection. Its also rare that a piece of equipement I want to use is no available and if it is taken there is always another piece to use. Locker room is nice and clean. The daycare is great for the kids to be able to play while I workout. I also recommend the peanut butter cup shake or the mint shake both are really good. Great place to workout and watch a movie at the same time.

It is a good gym for the area, but if you have been to Lifetime Fitness or other comparable gym it doesn't come close. The weekend hours are awful (6-6), daycare is very limited on the weekends (8-1 sat, 0 hours sun.), they do not have a pool, expensive for what you get and you have to deal with ABC financial for billing (horrible customer service). However, the gym is clean, the classes are good (but limited, only a handful on the weekend) and they have new equipment.

I highly recommend this gym. They have an awesome selection of gym equipment and the cinema room is awesome. I have yet to relax in the hot tub and steam room, but after my pregnancy, i intend to take advantage of it at least once a week. THey even have tanning beds and a room to watch your kids.
