Starting Strength and the philosophy got introduced to me from a colleague in Seattle. I had embarked on a health journey and joined the Starting Strength gym (Centennial on Holly & County Line). Jay the owner/coach and Kelsey the coach are AMAZING. In about 8 weeks or so I have gone from 0 to deadlifting 95 lbs (I have never lifted weights before but know how important it is). - The atmosphere is great and the camaraderie between the people there is fantastic (also plenty of parking!). My son goes with me as well. This is one having experienced it first hand, I would say - don't try it at home, rather try it at Starting Strength Gym Centennial. I am happier and healthier for it! Happy Lifting!

I started training here when it first opened in 2019. Before I walked in the doors of Denver Starting Strength, I did, for significant time with each, most every style of workout. Crossfit, bodybuilding, sport specific, and so on. I started training seriously when I was around 17, and I was an competitive college athlete.

I never expected, five years later at Starting Strength Denver, to undergo such a physical and mental transformation. Jared Nessland is an elite level coach. His programming and guidance took me from a skinny-fit guy, to a strong male. My squat was maybe 315lbs before I started, and now my squat is 645lbs. I rarely ever deadlifted before, and now my deadlift is 655lbs.

My body used to ache each day from prior injuries. The Starting Strength program got my body stronger and the aches went away. The culture and community is one of encouragement, and that organically creates solid bonds.

My numbers are likely unusual. Not many will squat or deadlift that much. But perhaps the most inspiring part of Denver Starting Strength, is witnessing the transformations of people of all shapes, ages, and sizes. Seeing a complete weightlifting newbie with underlying health issues, put on muscle mass, lose fat, reduce or even eliminate prior issues is something you don't often see elsewhere.

The owner Jay Livsey has created a solid community, and that bond isn't forced. It's how the members get to know each other, how they get aware of each other's progress, and then, often, it grows into a bond.

My class was at my wedding, which all had to travel to, and another member did my wife and I the honor of marrying us.

Truly, this is a remarkable place. If you stick to the program, you will see results, and you will shatter what you thought possible.

I’ve worked out in gyms all over the country and this is by far the best! I’ve never been stronger! My husband and I also made great friends here, who flew across the country to come to our wedding. Amazing people and a great gym!

I have to say this is the gym I've stayed at the longest. Each time I go, I leave stronger. It's amazing what we can achieve in just a few hours weekly. I wouldn't have this knowledge and ability or capability without them.!

Tried and true strength program with excellent coaching! I wanted to learn correct form to both avoid injury and to set myself up for success for the years ahead. My lifts have steadily increased since I joined several months ago thanks to Jared’s attention to technique and his knowing when to customize programming for my particular needs and goals. This gym can work for everyone who wants to be stronger, regardless of age. And there is good camaraderie amongst its members without it feeling superficial or inauthentic. I highly recommend checking this place out!

Started lifting here in June 2023 with plans to quit after a few months, but I’m hooked. In less than a years time, I’m the strongest I’ve ever been and only getting stronger (in my late 40s no less!). The coaches are fantastic - providing feedback on form, keeping you on the program so you continue to progress. And for my fellow ladies - lifting weights is key to preventing osteoporosis. This is a great place to start - it’s not intimidating, you won’t become a bulky body builder, and you’ll see results you’ve never gotten from a yoga or group fitness class.

I’ve been training at Starting Strength Denver as of November 2023 (4 months). In that time, Jarred has been instrumental to my strength goals and development. The small class sizes are great and you really receive a quality lifting education along the way. I’d highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to build foundational strength and dial in their existing fitness goals.

I've been training here for just under a year, and have loved the experience. The coaches are very attentive and help adjust your programming as you advance so you're always making progress and never stalling out. The small group setting keeps conversation lively between sets, but you'll always have a coach ready to watch your work sets when you need one. The other lifters cheer you on as well; overall just a super supportive and effective program.

I cannot recommend Starting Strength Denver enough. I got far stronger than I thought was achievable. I've lifted in the past but got great coaching from Jared, Jen and Jay. I'd recommend SSD to anyone of any experience or ability looking to get stronger. The coaches will work around any injuries or limitations and modify the workouts so that you get as strong as you possibly can. They are truly experts in a way I haven't found in any gyms or workout settings. The classes are small enough that you basically get personal training but there are also enough people to build a sense of community. SSD has been a huge net positive in my life.

In five months I went from 195-226lbs and got significantly stronger. My coach at the time Jennifer was alright. She gets irritated and acts like it’s the end of the world when you ask questions. Ended up leaving because I injured my shoulder, when I’d mention my shoulder hurt she would tell me that it was all in my head and that I think too much.

I’ve accomplished more here in 3 months than I have lifting on my own in the previous 10 years. You start the barbell lifts at a low weight and they teach you perfect form. You add 5lb each session and you get strong really quickly.

The coaches, Jen and Jared, watch every set you do and are always giving feedback to make sure you are doing it correctly. They have decades of experience and it shows.

In three months, I have:
- Learned proper form
- Achieved a 3 plate squat/deadlift
- Had my press/bench go up by 50%
- Gained 20lb (I started skinny)
- Zero injuries
- Met some really cool people!

Money well spent. Thanks guys!

I have never considered myself to be especially athletic or strong, and I had never seriously lifted weights before, so walking into my intro with Jared in March of 2021 was a very intimidating experience. I am so glad I did though, because in just a few months I have achieved so much more than I thought possible.

Amanda has been an amazing coach for a novice like me, but because our classes are full of mixed experience and ability lifters, I know she and the rest of the coaching staff are very skilled at helping you reach your goals, whether you're learning how to lift for the first time or getting ready for competition.

Specifically in the evening classes, I have seen for myself how Amanda works so hard to create a positive atmosphere to work out in, personalizes programs to meet the needs of each individual member, challenges everyone to be their strongest self, and keeps us safe while doing so. I look forward to the days when I get to come in to lift because I know I will be around likeminded people who will challenge, push, and encourage me.

For once in my life I am not obsessed with how my body looks, but instead how strong I can make it. This has brought me so much peace and I am forever thankful to Starting Strength Denver for that! If you're on the fence about joining, take the chance -- now is the perfect time to get the strongest you've ever been with the help of Starting Strength Denver!

Starting Strength Denver has helped me achieve my goals in a matter of months.

Instead of spinning my wheels at home, the coaching staff and ownership have worked with me to make sure that my lifts are progressing and that I can keep adding weight to the bar, safely.

In less than a year (as an intermediate lifter), my deadlift and squat have increased by over 100#, presses by 50#, and clean by 75#.

This is the premier place to get coached on barbell lifting in the Denver area. Jared and Amanda are highly accomplished coaches and I have watched first hand countless people become the strongest versions of themselves at this gym.

I have been going since the gym opened and I would be lying if I wasn't shocked with the transformation both my wife and I have gone through in terms of our strength gains. You are going to get really really strong, the kind of strength that makes day to day tasks that maybe had you tweaking your low back before become inconsequential.

This is a completely different experience than a typical commercial gym. You have a 90 minute block with programming done for you, and you are fully coached during your lifts. You show up and do the work and you get strong, with actual measurable results.

It doesn't matter if you are a rank novice or an experienced lifter, this gym will make you stronger than you thought was possible.

If you want to get strong, if you want to feel better every day and if you care about your mental and physical health, you can find an hour a day 3 times a week.
No thinking required just do wht your coach says. I have followed Starting Strenth for 8 years. We are fortunate we have 2 certified coaches plus an owner that is on site. You will not be disappointed. Robert

Starting Strength Denver is a phenomenal place to gain confidence with compound barbell lifts, consistently build strength, and focus on lifting efficiently/safely with great 1-on-1 instruction. Jay was super easy to work with, and Jared and Amanda were awesome coaches to work with in the morning sessions. The gym is super clean with plenty of room for activities. If you’re hoping to build strength (new or experienced lifter), safely come back from an injury, or join a group of like-minded people who care about getting strong, I would recommend SS Denver for you!

Took an intro class today(Sept.16, 2020), and it was fantastic. If you are unaware, Starting Strength is one of the most highly recommended weightlifting plans for beginning to intermediate lifters. There is a book, and forums, etc so you can do Starting Strength anywhere that has the equipment.

The *magic* of this gym is the coaching.

I've lifted off and on for thirty years (mostly off,to be honest), but today's coaching has me squatting, pressing, and deadlifting better than before. I'm excited to see how having my form corrected allows me to make progress and get stronger.

The setup is fantastic, with your own set scheduled workout on a reserved lifting platform. No waiting on other lifters for equipment or having to work in. You get your 90 minutes and coaching to go with it.

I'm excited to start lifting here.

1st EDITED TO ADD: It's been 12 weeks now, and I never want to train anywhere else. My squat has gone from 125lbs to 300lbs. Deadlift from 205lbs to 360lbs. Press from 65lbs to 135lbs. I feel great, and love how this amazing coaching makes getting stronger so simple.

2nd EDITED TO ADD: It's been 5 months now. Today I hit a personal goal, and deadlifted 405lbs for 5 reps. The amazing coaching and programming I get at Starting Strength Denver has kept me constantly making strength gains while balancing my ability to recover from the training as a 47 year old novice lifter. Everything I said above, I feel even more strongly about now.

Signed up before they opened. It is amazing how fast you can get stronger. I still have a long way to go, but as an older guy, any improvement in strength is worth the work.

Show up, do the work. The coaches (Amanda and Jared) are awesome, and can modify the program if you have some physical issues.

Best place to get strong in Denver. The coaches here follow the "Starting Strength" model, which "is a systematic approach to barbell training made up of a series of concepts which, when applied together, develop stronger, more capable lifters."
