We’re learning how to rock climb and this has been a good home base for us. Overall, there are a range of classes for kids and adults. I would like it even more if there were better schedules and class options for kids. There are so many rock climbing gyms for adults only in this area and it would be great for there to be better programs for kids.

Both the buddy pass and punch card systems are money grubbing and not consumer friendly. 3 lifetime uses of the buddy pass is hilarious, and the punch card expiring in a year is just rude. The bouldering route setting at this location is genuinely uninteresting. The bouldering is borderline not good. Overall kind of disappointed to be honest

Edit: Back again. Still very happy with them! The current route setters I REALLY like!
So good I came back and got a membership! They have a fairly robust Boulder area, many top rope and lead climb, plus a few auto belay. The upstairs gym area is phenomenal. Everything is clean (obviously chalk dust is everywhere) and tidy, people are chill and staff are friendly. They play decent music as well, think Spotify-top 40-poptronic.
Edit: still great, still worth the membership 👍

Super thorough overview of the objectives, clear instructions and demonstrations for both the climber and belayer. I really apprecaited this informative and helpful class led by Clay, who is clearly a very experienced climber who made sure that all of us in the class were clear on how to be safe. If you want a good overview of the basics of top rope climbing, this is a great class.

The guest pass policy is the worst of any in the Front Range. They strongly advertise that a membership comes with 2 guest passes a month. It's a hard-to-find footnote that those passes are close to useless. Your guest can only get passed in 3 times EVER. Not per year, not per month, not per person doing the passing: ever.
It is the only gym in the Boulder/Louisville/Longmont complex that doesn't lend out lead ropes.
Routes stay closed for spinners for long periods of time. There was recently (in August, 2025) a route that was closed for over 2 weeks for a spinning hold.
The workout area leaves a lot to be desired. Few, old benches in a space that doesn't have a lot of equipment. It feels like you're always fighting for the 3-5 things that everyone wants to use (flat benches, mid-weight dumbbells, barbells). The dumbbells only go up to a paltry 75lbs, which is pretty thin.
The setting is fun and consistent. There's a vibrant kids community. It seems like they invested a lot in the wall space and are squeezing as hard as they can for the ROI on that.

The facility is great but unfortunately something has happened and there are very few routes to climb at the Louisville Spot and the one in Boulder. The walls are blank compared to the better gyms around the country and the world. I basically climb the same routes over and over again for months; I’d go somewhere else but this gym is close to my house and they have autobelays. In the photos below, you will see the main lead wall which has 9 routes on it and half of them are 13+ and harder, which of course very few of us can get off the ground. This is roughly a month after a competition, so there has been plenty of time to fill the walls with routes. For comparison, I added a photo of one of the lead walls at the Innsbruck Kletterzentrum in Austria, probably the most famous and well-respected gym in the world, where the world comp climbers go to train to get the highest level of training - the lead wall has lots of routes to choose from. It seems something has changed in the management’s philosophy (or budget for route setting) and they seem to want to have few routes and blank walls - because the same is happening in the bouldering area and at the Spot Boulder. It looks nice, like a competition wall, but there’s just not much to climb given that there is so much wall space. Bummer. I emailed the management sharing my opinions (as a paying member) and asking for clarity and have heard nothing in return.
Regardless, you can get a good workout here. The gym has auto-belays, hang boards and campus boards, a workout gym and some cardio machines, a handful of Yoga classes per week, kiddy climbing rooms, a gear store, wifi, climbing instructors and some free classes, showers in the locker rooms, and very friendly staff. You have to lead on your own ropes. You can use chalk. LGBTQ+ and diversity friendly and supportive.

I previously rated The Spot Louisville as 5 stars, but I felt I needed to update this review.
It turns out they don't have any AC, and when it's hot outside, its sweltering inside. I went recently and it was easily close to 90F inside, which is pretty useless for trying to climb. They really need to get a functioning cooling system to get the temp to at least under 80F.
Apart from the lack of cooling, its still an amazing place to climb.

Really solid gym with great setting and fun variety of routes. I think the lead setting is better than the bouldering here, but overall pretty solid all around. It does get VERY crowded here, so you will likely have a much better time if you can climb outside of peak hours.

We've been climbing here for 9 months now. Honestly, it's pretty disappointing. The gym is constantly overcrowded (not their fault), and children run around unattended. I've spoken to employees about children being unsafe on auto-belays, and it was ignored (I watched the kids continue to mess around for another 10 minutes before they came down on their own. No employees ever talked to them). I've never seen employees walking around to ensure that people are being safe, despite several employees sitting at the front desk. I love a laid back gym, I don't love an unsafe one.
If you're expecting much out of the yoga classes, that is also a disappointment. There aren't very many classes offered (relative to other gyms) despite them always being full. We've also had teachers show up late, or not at all, with no warning from the front desk staff upon checking in.
I want to love it here, but we honestly would rather drive farther away to climb elsewhere. It feels like this gym got thrown up, and was left to run itself without guidance from employees or management.

Had an employee make a threaten to kick me out about me dropping a 45lbs dumb bell. Hilariously stupid. Cancelled my membership. 90lbs (45+45lbs) is less than the weight of a person. So dropping ANY dumb bell wouldnt effect the structural integrity of the building. I would get it if I was dead lifting a lot of weight. But seriously, dumb bells? Has this particular staff member been to a regular commercial gym? Either way I want a refund for the last week of my membership that I cant use! This is BS

Just raised monthly rates for the new year. If the gym was providing a quality experience that would be reasonable, but fluorescent lights have been flickering in almost every part of the gym since at least October and there are several routes that haven’t been reset in almost 5 months.

11/24... this is painful to write because the facility is awesome but the route setting is extremely narrow in style and very likely to induce injury in my experience. i have been a member here for a few years, and i just quit and will climb someplace else. the setting seems to be optimized for establishing shoulder injuries. it is as almost as if the gym partnered with a physical therapy shop... haha. more descriptively, think of routes well set for very young, strong climbers whose feet are similar in usage to a t-rex's arms. many of my female friends over 35 have left, and just this morning i watched someone on a 5.12 and a different person on a 5.9 and both climbs had the same frustrating and foundational problem... it is very unfortunate, i hope it changes, but given the trend, i suspect it will be a few years...

I recently participated in an Adult Training Series session with Chris Deuto at the Louisville gym, and can't say enough good things about my experience. I'm pretty active for 46 (running and climbing mostly), but I haven't had a strength-training routine in years and have been dealing with chronic pain, minor injuries, and decreased flexibility that I knew would only get worse with age. Chris' approach was to create a regimen of warm-ups, range-of-motion exercises, and stretches— one set specific to climbing, the other for running. Half a week in, I'm already noticing a difference.
I really appreciated Chris' clear and thoughtful communication style and respectful energy. (For any BIPOC folks reading this, I'm an Indigenous woman, and this session felt like a safe space, which can be hard to find around here sometimes!) Just a day or two after our session, he followed up with an easy-to-read, color-coded workout plan, and even texted short videos when I couldn't remember the names of some exercises.
Finally, a note on cost— $70 was a big stretch for my current budget, and I almost didn't sign up because I've already given this gym (starting with Evo) so much of my money over the years and haven't always felt like I was getting my money's worth. But for two hours of private, customized instruction, plus a workout plan, plus Chris' support and quick response time post-session, it was worth every penny. I'm encouraging my husband to sign up, and have shared this with another friend who climbs here too. Really hope they continue to offer these sessions— I will definitely be back again when our finances are stabler.
Also, clarity on my rating-- Chris gets 5 stars. The gym as a whole is a 4, with room for improvement.

Really fun climbing with lots of autobelays and a belay partner whiteboard if you're from out of town like me.
Some room for improvement: Each of their three exercise bikes are in... pretty rough condition. Broken pedal straps, loose handlebars, even a broken seat. On the one hand, it's a climbing gym, so stuff like this is just a bonus. But it would be awesome if they could get some repairs in on them :)

This is a really nice facility for climbers of almost any age and a broad range of experience and preferred climbing style (bouldering, trad or speed climbing) but the staff is what makes it a 5 star establishment. Today, I experienced a very similar situation to another one star Google review posted about a Spot staff member who wasn’t given any reasons as to why she failed the belay test.
I was brought to the gym as a guest because my partner has a membership. I hadn’t climbed for about a year and expected to be a bit rusty on things. During the belay test, it took some time for me to remember everything, but the staff member’s intimidating and dismissive demeanor was very off putting and did little to help. Being nervous, I was told by this gentleman to take my time and that he didn’t care how I got to the correct end result, only that I was able to do so without help. He even said that he “wouldn’t fail me if everything was right.” I passed all the safety checks and didn’t fail any part of the exam although it was obvious I was nervous. After I was finished, he told me that he couldn’t pass me. I asked why and he said that I just “need to be more confident.” When my partner asked what part of the test I failed so that he could practice with me, the man didn’t offer suggestions other than that I lack confidence. I understand that safety is the utmost important thing, so I would be understanding had I failed something objective on the test. He even told my partner that my technique was good.
Overall, I thought the employee lacked professionalism, being very short and dismissive and did little to help calm my nerves or make me feel welcomed as a climber.

Don’t be fooled. This is a day care center disguised as a climbing gym. If you can catch it at the perfect timing it’s great but 90% of the time it’s overcrowded and then you have the hundreds of kids not being watched who will climb under you or run around under you while you’re on the wall. When the parents are around they’re disrespectful. Not sure if it’s just the area it’s in but for some reason the people who climb here have no climbing etiquette. Giving 4 stars for the times it’s tolerable and for the yoga classes.

A really lovely climbing gym. It used to be part of the EVO chain of climbing gyms, but was acquired by The Spot when EVO went under during the pandemic.
It has kept nearly all of the smaller town feeling from when it was EVO- there's signatures on the wall from professional climbers, a little museum, and the gym has lots of things that seem to be left on purpose for someone to come back to. There's a real feeling of community here, evidenced by seeing people often and waving hello. The buddy board is always full, which is a nice thing compared to movement, where it seems like it's always empty.
I really like the setting- most of the time. Sometimes, it feels geared entirely towards very dynamic climbers or tall people, which I think would dissuade some climbers. I do wish things were set more often- some of the lead wall stuff was up for three months before being rotated. Some of my favorite climbs ever have been here - particularly on the slab sport wall next to the big circular volumes, and in the arch. Right now there's a very cool volume problem in the arch that is quite hard, and I remember a couple months ago a similar one set that had you straddle the chimney and work your way up.
The gym is decent, but does leave a little to be desired. There simply isn't enough space for more stuff, so I understand the restrictions, and it is also directly above the office and front desk so you can't drop any weights (they don't have bumper plates anyway). If I could add stuff, I'd probably add another cable machine and maybe an extra weight holder.
The boxes, though, are by far the nicest and strongest boxes I've ever used in a gym. They are amazing, and you can easily do one leg pistol squats on them without them tipping over.
Integration with Kaya is nice, though it seems there's a maximum number of people that can be on the wifi? If they could increase that, it would be lovely, as you won't get signal in the building or around it really.

Giving a three star rating for the following reasons. I’ve gone to the Boulder location a few times and the staff there are absolutely rude. Maybe it’s been my luck that the two times of gone there they had bad front desk staff. My only other complaint is they limit the amount of times your guest can go. For example I can’t take the same person once a month. They only allow guest a total of 3xs. I don’t know why care. I was considering switching to the spot but I think I’ll stick with my current gym since they always have great staff, it’s never super crowded and they don’t care who and how many times I take my guest for my monthly free pass.

I have been a member of these gyms for a year and a half, and I advise anyone interested in climbing NOT to come to the spot. Every single weekday the gym gets more and more overcrowded and it is getting to the point where I may stop climbing here all together. There are larger gyms that can handle this number of people, the spot is not one of them. This goes for all locations. They're all way too crowded now...

I havent been a fan of the spot for years, but last night took the cake. Their so called bouldering 'comp' turned out to be nothing but an overpriced climbing session, where only the open/pro category mattered. First, while going over the comp rules, the MC stated that the "beginner climbs are just for warm-ups and hopefully no one is actually pushing hard on those." Excuse me? Isn't this supposed to be a friendly climbing community that supports all levels of climbing? Then, this so called 'comp' didn't even recognize the winners of the beginner thru advanced categories. Because if they're not pros, who really cares, right? We're all just "here to have fun." Don't label it as a competition and have competitors track their climbs if you're not going to freaking do anything with it. Why charge $50 a head and not at least celebrate each level? Oh, right. Profit. Greed. Nice.
I ended my membership with the spot a few years back (I originally joined when the gym was Evo) and I am so glad I left. Looking forward to future competitions elsewhere -- where everyone matters.
Peace out, spot. I won't be back.

I’m a member at Movement, but considered moving over to this gym chain since this particular location is closer. I called in, spoke with a woman named “Sasha”. Explained that I can’t get a buddy pass from a friend because I don’t know anyone here, but my wife and I would like to check them out and see if this could be the gym for us. I don’t want to pay $50 to check them out when I already have a membership and can climb free elsewhere. She understands, and says just come in and I can get free passes to check them out. Great! I get there and the parking lot is packed. For whatever reason 30+ bikers are having a meet up and hogging up the gym’s parking, which doesn’t seem right… Anyway I go in, get a tour from the actual Sasha (a male, not who I spoke to on the phone - seems like the staff is pretty immature and doesn’t even give their real names over the phone?) and then they say ok you can climb, but you have to pay $10… what? I tell him that not what the woman I spoke to on the phone said and I drove all the way over here. “Sorry but she shouldn’t have said that” is his only response. I just left, drove onto Movement Boulder, which was way less busy, and even offered members a free beer after climbing as a way to celebrate being open 14 years. I’m not even mad at Sasha, but The Spot should really just empower their employees to help people check them out and grow membership. I don’t care about $10, but I do care about spending my money at a place that cares at least a little about customer service. I honestly wonder why I even considered leaving Movement after the bizarre experience I had here tonight and the 5 star experience I had at Movement Boulder. The difference between the two could not be more apparent. The only positive thing I observed was a free EV charger in the parking lot, which is a really nice touch. This was just a very disappointing experience and a complete waste of time. I hoped this would be less busy and a relaxed atmosphere, but it’s just as crowded as any other climbing gym in the area. I’ll happily keep on spending my thousands of dollars at Movement instead - it’s a no brainer.

Great for kids! Our 3yo has been going to classes, and we've been really impressed - especially with the great coaching staff. He previously took lessons at another kids-specific climbing gym in the area, and this is sooooo much better.

Love this gym, setting is always consistent and the staff is super friendly. I find it to be pretty clean and there are lines on all the walls for people of all levels to enjoy. Lots of classes for beginners both indoor and outdoor and the kids seem to be having fun in their classes and camps! I'm not a huge fan of how they grade their Boulder problems, but honestly it isn't too big of an issue.

Gets a star for being decent if you happen to be there when there arnt swarms of high school and younger kids everywhere. If you have to go after work hopefully you enjoy essentially being at a primary school gym...even in summer it's packed full of kids

My third time climbing ever was at this gym and it could not have gone better! The auto-belay stations were convenient for when you’re not climbing with a belaying partner. My favorite place was their bouldering section. I didn’t expect to like bouldering as much as I did. They had a lot of cool routes; I got to traverse horizontally and tried my hands at hanging full-body. My climbing partner was knowledgeable so I felt at ease as a beginner. If I had gone by myself, I think it would’ve been a much more intimidating experience. Everyone who was there seemed very at ease with their surroundings as if they’ve been climbing since birth. In fact, there were a few families with little children at the bouldering walls. My ego was slightly bruised when I saw a kid half my height fly up the wall on a route that I had painstakingly completed 5 minutes earlier. I’ll definitely be back to try my hand at more bouldering routes.

I submitted a request to cancel my membership and received a confirmation email stating that the request was processed. However, my credit card was still charged the next month and the Spot refused to provide a refund. I ended up having to dispute the charge with my bank. Additionally, the number of poorly supervised children who are unaware of there surroundings is unsafe. Countless times a child has walked right underneath me while I was bouldering. Teaching etiquette and safety does not seem to be a high enough priority for the kids programs.

My favorite climbing gym. The vibes are chill, energy is great, and they change up the routes often enough to where it gets mixed up but not so often you can't work one route for a bit. I love the separate kids sections, and the auto belay options for when I don't have a climbing partner. The bouldering section is my favorite, and the staff is super chill. 5/5, great gym keeps me climbin.
Also, as a sensory sensitive individual, this gym is amazing. The lights aren't too overwhelming, the music isn't too loud, and it's usually not too crowded. Even when it is kind of crowded, The layout helps keep things spread out so you don't feel like you're on top of other people.

We have been coming to this gym for a long time, through multiple names and ownerships. Ever since Spot took over and COVID era ended, this place is almost impossible to utilize for training unless you have odd hours off. The kids programs are everywhere. They have dedicated spaces for kids upstairs and downstairs (often empty), yet they still have super young kids at peak hours "climbing" in the main Bouldering area. It seems really dangerous as they don't have the best spatial awareness. In general there are youth programs taking up many routes and the workout area during times when the place is already a zoo from regular clients. I want to love it still, but it has unfortunately become a pretty unpleasant experience due to the chaos.

I’ve been climbing here for almost a year and I love a lot of things about this gym, but the number of kids programs that happen during peak hours is becoming an issue. I was hoping to get an endurance workout on an auto belay the other day, but they were all in use by kids in one of the gym’s climbing clubs. There were two staff members with the kids, but instead of actually belaying them, they just let the kids dominate the auto belays.
The gym has two dedicated spaces for kids, one upstairs and one downstairs. There are tons of open autobelays upstairs with child friendly routes. Please sequester kids to these areas when it’s busy in the gym.

Go here!!! Great staff & loads of classes to help you improve your technique. Auto belays are available on your solo days.
Yoga classes are included with monthly membership, as well as discounted prices on technique classes offered. They even provide courses to help you transition from indoor to outdoor climbs. The community is great - you’re bound to make friends along the way. Can’t say enough good things. Check out The Spot!

Worst gym I ever went to. The have robbed me of membership dues multiple times since I moved THREE MONTHS AGO, and have refused to cancel my account for the third time in a row.
Going to have to cancel the charge at my bank because these crooks refuse to do it.
There are some very nice independent climbing gyms in boulder, go there. AVOID THIS PLACE, THEY WILL STEAL FROM YOU!!!

The $50 membership initiation fee that’s not listed anywhere on the website was an unwelcome surprise. Bouldering was a bit disappointing- the walls were pretty sparse so there weren’t a lot of climbs, and many of them lacked ratings. Top rope was good, walls are much taller than the gyms in boulder, and lots of autobelays.

I really wanted to love this and leave a positive review, but...
I've NEVER climbed before. Anywhere. And the intro classes are not at convenient times for me. I was hoping that the staff would at least take 5 minutes to show me the basics - for safety sake if nothing else.
But nope! He was barely engaged while working to find me shoes that fit and I filled out the waiver. When I started asking about where to go, etc. (cause I've never been here before, remember), he reluctantly got up, showed me the walls and kinda (not really) explained the dot system...which still doesn't really make sense to me since I didn't even see dots on many of the routes.
He pointed in the direction of the bathroom and lockers as well as said what is upstairs, but never bothered to walk me around or anything.
Honestly, I get better service at the grocery store!!
Very disappointed...Might be different at one of their other locations, but I'm reluctant to even try at this point...and certainly not feeling like I want to shell out money for private instruction.
Also, while I was there, there were ZERO other females. It was very uncomfortable and did not feel women-friendly at all!
They need better staff and more intro class times throughout the day and week.
If you know what you're doing and don't care about service, it might be fine...
