Tiger Kim’s has recently been a great experience for our five year old who just tested for his high white belt. Taekwondo has been great for teaching discipline, practicing and learning different forms, and learning respect. It’s also been great for building his confidence. I have three daughters in this academy and we have been coming regularly for several years. This place used to provide quality training and education, but it has gone downhill since the grandmaster passed away. We have been waiting 15 months for a black belt with my oldest daughter's name on it. Master Kim promised her this belt when she completed her black belt test 15 months ago. My second daughter has been waiting nine months for a black with her name on it. Master Kim promised her this belt when she completed her black belt test nine months ago. We paid all the fees and worked hard for this honor, and I asked Master Kim repeatedly to let us know when the belts are coming, but he will not give me a straight answer.

This place used to require the students to know their forms well and be respectful in class, but now students are passed on to high belts that have no business wearing the high belts, and children are permitted to snack in class and have loud conversation while the instructors are teaching. This is a real problem because the high belts train the low belts and are supposed to model proper behavior.

My youngest daughter was supposed to test for her black belt this December (2024), but my daughters are so disappointed with how unprofessional this place has become that they do not want to return.

This downslide of this establishment been very hard for my children to accept because I spent a lot of time teaching them that this is a professional place where they can learn discipline and respect and carry on their cultural heritage (my girls are 1/4 Korean). I spent years making excuses for them and defending them when my daughters complained to me, but after 15 months with no black belt and no excuses, I cannot defend them anymore. I sent en email to Master Kim expressing my disappointment and warning him I was going to escalate this situation if he did not get back to me about the belts, and he did not respond.

My son has been training at Tiger Kim’s Taekwondo Academy for nearly 3 years - he absolutely loves the instructors and has advanced through the belts. Through his training he has learned not only the tenants and techniques of Taekwondo, but he’s learning self discipline, confidence and what it means to focus and follow through on challenging tasks.

All the instructors are kind yet demanding and provide the perfect amount of encouragement along with their expectations. Then new location on Colfax is really great - specious and comfortable and also includes ample parking for easy pick up and drop off.

I have been taking classes at Tiger Kim’s for Taekwondo for about 3 weeks now, and I can’t think of any flaws this place has. Throughout these three weeks, I’ve discovered that I’ve become more patient and developed more self control/esteem. Tiger Kim’s Taekwondo/Tang Soo Do is perfect if you’re interested in an after school hobby, or in training your self defense skills. 5/5 stars, great place!

Tiger Kim's is a wonderful place. They teach not only Taekwondo but also Tang Soo Do, Hapkido, and other self defense techniques. I love that all the classes are mixed ages and mixed level, so from the start you can learn both from the expert instructors and from watching the most experienced students. I love seeing entire families learning together. Most instructors have between a 4th and 7th degree black belt and it's obvious they each have a deep passion for the art. Each one has a very different teaching style and I appreciate the wide diversity of personalities and perspectives. However, they're consistent in technique & form and in wanting every student to succeed. They're tough and take it seriously, but are also caring and make it fun. They're awesome people and I learn something from every class. It quickly starts to feel like a community.

My family and I have been attending Tiger Kim's for a little over a year now. The instructors do a fantastic job of blending fun in with the practice of martial arts, there is always a black belt or two around to help as you're learning new forms, and the fact that it's Denver's only school connected to the Kukkiwon (the world Taekwondo headquarters in Korea) is pretty cool.
