Guy that opens is late a few times a week. This is incredibly disrespectful to our time. I have a tight schedule before work like a lot of folks. Today I drive there and there are several people waiting to get in. At 5:15 am most of us gave up and left. I can't sit there and wait for your unmotivated employee to be on time when I myself have a job to be on time to and I take very seriously. This what adults do.

Dan Fogarty Is an exceptional physical therapist. Dan has fixed me many times over the years that include 2 shoulder surgeries, back injuries, a broken wrist recovery, and now hip surgery. He is amazing and the YMCA is very lucky to have him.

Guy is the most helpful team member here. He’s the coolest person to talk to, a great communicator. He takes not only my personal health and gym journey serious, but everyone he meets, providing really helpful insights and advice. This is young man who is very dedicated and has an awesome future ahead of him. Just speaks to the awesome management here at this location.

We had been members of the YMCA for over 10 years, and have noticed a drastic decline in customer service over the last couple years - specifically at this location. It’s unfortunate and ultimately lead us to cancelling our membership. Getting dates wrong for summer pauses, not calling back for sports registration issues, double booking birthday parties, over charging and unwilling to correct mistakes. It’s been rough. If you’re looking for a local gym, I’d highly recommend looking elsewhere. The Y is not what it used to be.

If you need physical therapy, this is the clinic to go. You can get appointments with Dan right away, and you don't have to jump through all the insurance hoops to see him. Whether you've had knee, hip, or shoulder surgery, etc. or are just stiff or in pain, I highly recommend you go see Dan Fogarty. He is the best physical therapist ever!

I've been dropping my toddler off at the Learn & Play so I can work out 2 - 3x a week for a year and a half and we love it so much! I have access to all the cardio equipment and weights I could need, rarely having to wait for equipment, and my kid loves the childcare. This was the first form of childcare we used and I was so nervous at first, but the childcare staff is fantastic. She has fun and I trust that she's safe. I also love that they have private bathrooms with showers in lieu of locker rooms (and you constantly see staff cleaning them). My literal only complaint/request is that the bathrooms get foggy and hot, please add fans! You shower off the workout sweat only to get sticky again while getting dressed.

All staff were nice and looked happy to be there. Recommended this place to everyone. Everything looks clean and nice. Thank you Misty for the great job!👍🏼

Cancelation process is terrible. I have had a membership off and on for the past 2 years. In the past I would cancel my membership with 3 days from the end off the month and everything was fine. I would not get a charge, I went in recently to close my account and was assured I was within the time frame and was set to go. A couple days later there was a charge for another month. I called and was told the girl who attended me was new and did not know the policy, which had changed. Now you need to do the request 5 days prior, this is verbal so I would check your agreements for accuracy. The main complaint is I was told there would be a request to reverse and a call back, well almost a week later and no call back. I called again to speak to Chantel as she handles membership I said I was not trying to be difficult but that last time I called I was sent a request to cancel but it was not processed until the 1st, even though I stopped by the 28th. It is my belief that they did not process the cancelation until the first to justify the new monthly charge, I requested documentation from Chantel stating I requested on the 28th and she said she would send later that day, she has not sent anything over. This is deceptive and obviously upsetting. It should not be this hard to cancel a membership.

I really appreciate the childcare workers at this location. They really seem to care that the kids are well taken care of so the parent can get their workout completed. They have gone above and beyond multiple times to make sure my one year old stays happy, even on days when she is fussy. They are very kind and easy to work with if an issue arises.

After a year of thinking about it and wanting to overcome my gym anxiety, I bought personal training packages when they were on sale for the new year. I wanted a female trainer and was contacted by Sunny and it’s the best decision I could’ve made and I regret not doing it sooner. I went from having so much gym anxiety that I walked in several times and it felt too busy so I left, and now I’ve been going on my own when it’s busy and doing the plan from Sunny. She’s a great trainer and helped me so much!

I embarked on my fitness journey little over 3 years ago, during that time here at YMCA at first and main not only have I saw tremendous amounts of self growth and improvement, but I have also made many friends. The overall environment here at the y is unmatched anywhere else. The staff is always happy and serving infectious smiles. We all know how hard it is just to want to go to the gym sometimes, and when i catch myself struggling to get going i think of all the amazing people and environment that is at the y and it motivates me to go! Super clean as well, the facilities team does a great job! Easily a 5 star experience

I've been coming here since 2022 and this is my favorite YMCA in Colorado Springs! 🩷✨
I'm very reliant on gym daycare in order to be able to workout and this location have the best in the area. As far as child care facilities, I think there are other branches that have better stuff for to do for kids, but those one is the best for the reason that this seems to be the cleanest and have the least likely odds of your kid catching anything in the daycare and getting sick 🤔🦠 —not to mention the child care workers here are very attentive and sweet, and are great with the kids! My son loves coming here and spending a few hours in their daycare zone.
As far as daycare hours, those are subject to change. They recently increased their daycare hours and expanded it to more than what they used to offer, so you'd have to check their website (or those pamphlets they hand out in the front desk) in order to get the full, updated details 🙏🏼 in general, YMCA allows for 2 and 1/2 hours of daycare use per day; hours of availability vary per location.
As far as gym equipment, this location is the newest and most updated, with what looks to be the newer machines and weights on the floor compared to some of the other locations. Parking can be rough during busy hours (which I noticed to be in the mornings), but you can still find parking—just further out of the way 🚗
No pool in this YMCA location tho, sadly 🤔 but that's personally not a deal-breaker for me so it's not losing any stars for me for that.

Got kicked out for having a conversation on the phone. The tall male trainer with tattoos came up to me during my workout and told me I couldn’t be on the phone …. Would give this place 0 stars. But I worked in customer service for so long. I don’t want it to affect the owner. I’ve worked out my whole life and never been treated like this at the gym. Sorry to the owner but I was spending $120 a month to get that kind of treatment. I’m out.

My husband and I had to move from Colorado Springs and we were SO sad to leave. YMCA First & Main staff were always so friendly and remembered us and our girls. The Learn n’ Play staff adored our two babies and always treated them so well and we trusted them completely with our girls. Our girls loved them as well. We will miss the YMCA family at First & Main ❤️

I have heard really good things about YMCA and both times we were let down. Membership at briargate and we just signed my son up for soccer a few months ago here at First and Main
I paid for the soccer program and then didn’t hear anything after the receipt confirmation showing a start date of 08/26. There was a lady listed (Jalen) on the email- I reached out to her about two weeks prior to see if I could get more information. I heard nothing! Not even a “we are still working on it update you later”. 2 weeks before the start date I contacted the YMCA and asked for more information and that’s when I was given Jacks email. I emailed and heard nothing, once again. Until 4 days before the date listed on the receipt and all it is- basically they are canceling the season due to understaffing. Fine, but why 4 days before hand? We were given a couple options- credit, transfer, or refund. I emailed back I would like a refund. Heard nothing- so I called YMCA AGAIN. Soccer seasons enrollment is ending and I need my son’s soccer money to get him signed up with a different program. They informed me they would be refunding less due to the processing fee. I do not appreciate the lack of communication, and the fact that I have to eat the processing fee even though I didn’t want the refund, I wanted to season. My opinion the company should paid ALL back including the processing fee- I had to pay that to pay you. STAY away from sports here. You can not contact anyone that is provided and then the GYM itself can’t help at all.
OH and it needs 5-7 days to refund. They are a joke.

Terrible customer service. Not willing to work with you at all. Wife is pregnant and medically on limited activity and they will not cancel her membership unless she physically comes in to sign forms. I explained that wasn't possible and asked they email or snail mail us the paperwork and that I could have them notarized by a neighbor since they claim the reason is they need to make sure it's her who is signing. I've called since 6/28 with no return call. At 115$ dollars a month it's reasonable to expect a lot more than that. If you question or push back on anything there they get very curt and corporate and that whole "Christian organization" goes right out the window. Childcare is convenient until you have deal with the management and leadership at any of the pikes peak region branches and then you realize quickly the juice is not at all worth the squeeze.

It took entirely too long to get signed up for this place as there was only one person at the counter who was Manning the phones, the memberships and the activities. I absolutely love PPYMCA and I have spent time at several of the locations. I consider first and main my “home” location and it’s a great facility. The learn and play in particular has been amazing! They take great care of my two younger kiddos, knowing them by name, greeting them warmly, doing activities and play time. We all love it! I’m so grateful for what they do. Working with a ton of kids all day long is a tough job! I love that I can see into the play area from the weight floor too and just see how my kiddos are— it gives a sense of transparency and it’s just fun to watch them play and interact. I highly recommend the Y. It’s a great community organization with a lot to offer.

I purchased a membership three days ago and remained optimistic about this place and was really excited to be able to do something for myself as a stay at home mom. I ensued my trust into this place and was assured that this place was a community and that we would feel welcomed. Yesterday was my first day and I left in tears and cried all day. I left my daughter at the learn and play, no one greeted me or even explained to me how to sign in or anything. I left to work out and not even five minutes into my workout they called and said they needed help calling my daughter, so I got off the machine and went to help. Neither one of the ladies working said anything to me, at all. I was in there for 30 minutes playing with her, not a peep from either one, and she was fine playing with the other kids. I tried to leave again and neither one of them interacted or said anything again. So we left both crying. I was so upset and wanted to cancel yesterday but didn’t. I tried again to take her today remaining hopeful that it would just take time. I explained again today that she has separation anxiety and that she didn’t do so good yesterday hoping that they would give us a chance. I stayed with her for about ten minutes before I left to work out. She was fine when I left. Again the bike read 4 minutes and 46 seconds, not even 5 minutes in they call again saying they need help calming her down. I decided to cancel. I trusted this place to help me, I was excited to do something for myself. I was hopeful they would give her a chance to adjust. Instead I was met with silence from the staff and felt very unwelcomed. I know I’m not the only stay at home mom with no family support that was relying on this place to be their outlet, I genuinely hope they take a good look at their staff, and find a way to be better. The director of the learn and play did try to get me to keep my membership but after today, I am no longer interested in my child and myself feeling so unwelcomed by a place that calls them selves a “community”. To fellow stay at home moms, I hope you consider my experience when choosing to purchase a membership. To say I am feeling let down and disappointed would be a huge understatement.
Editing my review in response to the companies reply to this review:
No one reached out to me to issue a refund, I requested a refund before I left the facility. The staff members were NOT professional nor do I believe they should work in child care. It’s ironic that 90% of the negative reviews for the ymca, are because of their learn and play center and then they have the audacity to publicly insinuate that their paying customers are liars instead of looking within.the director of learn and play told me personally that her staff is new and and maybe had not received the proper training on how to handle new members and their children yet they contradict themselves in the response to this review and say all of their staff is well trained and care about their young members? Which is it? I was never treated with respect the first day by the staff and was given the cold shoulder. I refuse to let this company mislead their future customers.

I had no problems with the employees. The staff at this facility were great and more than friendly and helpful, but if you are a basketball player, avoid this place like the plague.
This YMCA is not basketball player friendly whatsoever. Pickle ball rules the world here for the majority of the time and the "court" is constantly closed to basketball players for pickle ball. The "court" itself isn't even an actual basketball court, but more like a recreation court with two hoops added that are only lowered when basketball is actually allowed. It's extremely small. The rest of the building is pretty spacious and modern so I was shocked that they didn't even have an actual full sized
gymnasium/basketball court.
I was visiting from out of state. I'm not sure if basketball is just not that popular here in Colorado compared to Washington state or if it was just this particular YMCA catering to a different demographic. I even tried looking at schedules on this YMCA's website and it is very hard to find what you are looking for. I was expecting it to be more like a spreadsheet for the court listing each day of the week and having time slots for each activity for each day of the week, but it was some other format that didn't make sense.
I was disappointed because I tried coming here at noon when basketball normally starts here (although Pickle ball was always allowed to extend into the basketball start time) and low and behold, it was closed for a pickle ball class. Next time I visit Colorado, I will just have to call and write down the schedule day by day over the phone or something, because their website schedules are just weird.

We love the Y at First and Main! The Learn and Play Childcare Team offers 2.5 hours of childcare per day and this has been a LIFESAVER as parents. Their care enables us to exercise daily and then do homework or computer time afterwards. This location also has a wonderful family-friendly lobby area with tables for parents, and generally reliable Wifi. The Learn and Play staff has ensured that our child has a good experience every time, with smiles and fun interactions. The workers are caring, experienced, playful with the little ones, and gentle. They notify us if issues come up, but after attending regularly, we rarely get called to pickup our child early since the staff-members have many tricks to keep our child occupied and happy during our workout and post-workout. We love coming to the Y and look forward to many more years here!

The daycare is a liability. As other reviews mention, staff stands around mindlessly and ignores children that have immediate concerns. My child has complained on several occasions about the ‘tall lady with long brown hair’. I believe the employees name might be Hannah or starts with a H, could be wrong. Complaining to management at the Y has obviously not worked out, therefore I intend to file a complaint against this employee and the Y to the better business bureau. Shame on you Y.

When I joined earlier in the summer the daycare staff was amazing and I could tell they were so attentive to my son! Recently there have been changes in the infant room and my son doesn’t have his diaper changed and recently his diaper was so saturated his whole outfit needed to be changed when I picked him up after an hour. This is very discouraging when trusting someone to watch your little one for a short period of time.

This place is VERY discriminating. I used to wear sports bras all the time at this gym until I had a personal training with one of the female employees there and she happen to notice I had some old, healed, self harming scars on my stomach. I could tell by the way she was starting at my body during the lesson, which by the way, I was trying to take notes during and she had told me not to cause she would email me instructions on how to do everything she talked, and conveniently never sent that email. After that day, I was told personally I was not allowed to wear a sports bra but I’ve seen plenty and plenty of people go wearing sports bras there without being told that it was inappropriate. If you want to be judged, definitely go to the YMCA. They also close early on random days for no reason at all. The equipment is GARBAGE compared to even planet fitness. The employees there are specifically close to one dude that come to this gym. There’s this one dude that is there every single day and barely ever works out. All he does is walk around with a backpack on and talk to the staff until past closing. Very creepy. And everyone I know that goes to this YMCA knows exactly the guy I’m talking about. It’s weird to everybody except the blind employees. Another thing that the employees are totally oblivious to is the fact that the two delegated space is to work out on formats are usually both occupied at the same time by different doctors, which means you have to wait an hour until they’re done doing their classes to do anything on the format including stretching. Pretty ridiculous and a pretty easy fix if they knew how to communicate. Save yourself the time and just go to planet fitness. It’s 20$ cheaper a month, way more equipment, better equipment, better hours, and better staff.

I initially gave a 5 star, but I am forced to retract my 5 star to -1. You guys should learn how to update the time when the gym is not opened.
I can't force myself to wake up at 5am to the gym, when your google page clearly says OPEN, but then the gym is closed. This location have to be considerate.
It snowed on Wednesday, your Google says open so I went to the gym, but as usual, the gym was closed, with 4 notices on the doors saying due to the weather, we will be opened at 9am. At 9am, I went back to the gym, still closed. This is just ridiculous.
This is not the first complaint here regarding not being accountable for your Google timing update but clearly I can see this gym doesn't care about people leaving their house that early to the gym while they are closed.
Until you change this nonchalant behavior you get -1 star.

The place has become nothing but a zoo and the REFUSE to reevaluate their equipment to make it better. You have 3 squat/deadlift plat forms ALWAYS IN USE! GET MORE! There are a 1000 bikes and other cardio equipment that doesn't get used nearly as much!!!!!!

This YMCA location is so wonderfully maintained and staffed. My daughter has been involved in the Learn and Play for almost a year and she truly loves it. She is always greeted by name and welcomed in with joy. The children are engaged in unique ways including crafts and music. And they are always so patient with my daughter on those tougher days. We are thankful for First and Main!

Went for a tour without an appointment around 10am on a weekday. Staff was super friendly. Facility was clean. Excellent work out equipment and fitness classrooms. Excellent child care facilities. Separate child care for infant/toddler/young child up to 6. Ample off street parking. Patrons seemed friendly. Not overly crowded, at least not 10 am on a weekday. Note: no aquatics at this location.

The gym and staff are great. Very clean as well. My only issue with this place is I’ve had my truck hit by the car door of other clients TWICE in a two month period. I feel like there are many careless customers who go here and do not properly supervise their kids as they are exiting their vehicle. Neither person who hit my vehicle left a note or attempted to locate me to report the damage. Not the fault of the Y, but I guess I’ll be more careful around places with tons of rat kids running around.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the facility. It's the closest to my house. If it wasn't for the instructors and employees I would probably travel farther for a pool/hot tub more often. My only complaint is that I really wish they had a pool.

Absolutely one of the best gyms in the area, and certainly the best one owned by the Y. Lots of equipment to use, and the place is super cleanly. There are some annoying people who use the gym area during the business hours: heavy power lifters and a few people hogging a small number of machines for a long while. Definitely a cool facility overall. The cycling theater is such a cool idea, and I’m always surprised by the number of choices for cardio. You certainly wouldn’t catch me going anywhere else

Chelsea in the children's Learn and Play is one of the most amazing people I've met since we moved here. She greets us with a smile, is wonderful with the kids, and is such a reassuring presence that I have zero mom guilt about dropping the kids for a couple hours to do a workout and take a long shower.
The facility is wonderful. Plenty of machines and space, very clean, highly friendly staff. The kids and I have lunch in their lounge area after every workout.
5 Stars all the way, and a big thank you to all the staff who work the Learn and Play!!

I ABSOLUTELY love working out here. I also try to study here too. However, they do turn the A/C on full blast when its 40 degrees outside. I have walked over to there thermostat while there a few hours. It will start at 70 then as I am doing my studying, it will go down to 60 degrees. A little rude, but overall nice place.

This is a great gym but my complaint is we are getting back to normal and with a number of gyms that permanently shut down, gyms are overcrowded all over. It's time to get your hours back to normal. They get two stars because it is a good facility with friendly staff but useless to my family as we can't get to the gym until the later evening. Open your hours up and we'll come back and I'll change my review to one you guys deserve.
Response to gym- that all is good to hear. If and when those changes are made we'll most likely sign back up. But I feel these types of reviews are necessary to prod things in the right direction and provide community evidence of the need to make those changes. As I said, if these things change, my family would probably rejoin and I'm more than willing to update my review. So here is a vote to move to larger hours of operation quicker, I know there are many families waiting for this and that added revenue is stalled on awaiting those changes. Balls in your court.

Very nice staff that's always happy and polite. Gym is very nice as well and for many people a perfect place to work out. Unfortunately it's just gotten so over crowded most days that if you are going to go before (early am) or afterwork (430 or later) it's so crowded on many days that you can't really do anything you came to do. I will however say that this is the case for weight lifting, cardio machines there is always plenty of space. Also the Sunday's being just opened is great and all but 12 to 4pm is very odd for most people who want to do their work out first thing.

Very frustrating. they close because we had an inch of snow. Roads were clear. No notice to members. This happens constantly. No posting to the website. Showed up and found the doors locked. Those that go early morning, careful not to drink caffeine before you go just in case they close because they’re too scared to drive on wet roads. On top of lack of closure notices, training staff, two trainers specifically, are the rudest, most entitled, yet insecure trainers I’ve ever encountered in my 12 years of training. If you happen to entered the giant multi purpose area even 15 minutes before they start training, be prepared to get kicked out. If you bring a friend who is new to workout out and just feels more comfortable going with a friend, they’ll think you’re training them and kick you out. If you are strong enough where you need multiple 45s for any lifts, leg press for example, I’d recommend going to another gym. This is just a planet fitness.

This is by far my favorite YMCA location here in the Springs. From the staff, to the learn and play childcare, the updated gym equipment & how clean it is! Every staff member goes above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable and welcomed. No one seems like they’re miserable working there like I’ve experienced at other locations. I also feel very safe dropping my 7 month old & 2.5 year old at the childcare. They’re absolutely wonderful with both of them.

The facility is great, immaculately clean! The staff are awesome, and masked. Classes are amazing with energetic instructors. The patrons, specifically in the freeweight area, seem to include all maskless mouthbreathers in town...they're huffing and blowing in your face, no regard for personal space, even when they're not lifting anything.
