I have been working with Active Wellness now for over 4 years, and I highly recommend working with them. We started with workouts in person in their New Haven studio, but then the Pandemic started and I moved to a different state. Since then, Christina and Drew have been more than accommodating in working with me remotely, which we have done for 3 years.

Over the course of that journey, I've had very different goals at different phases in my life. The first phase was before and during the Pandemic, when I managed to lose 45 pounds and reach my lowest weight since college, while reaching my peak fitness in that same period.

Christina and Drew were incredible in building a foundation of fitness with a regimented program that built incrementally, starting from my core strength and building all the stabilization muscles to enable all planes of movement without risking injury. I had prior experience with workout plans from high school sports, and I don't think I could have found a program that worked so well without Christina and Drew's help. Workouts were incredibly varied, so it felt new and refreshing, and I felt new muscles get fatigued like my obliques and gluteus medius.

It was also great to have individual and group coaching sessions during the Pandemic that helped contextualize the research behind diet, nutrition, muscle building, and fitness with the backdrop of mental wellness and finding motivation to reach our individual goals. These really helped me focus on maintaining my diet to keep my weight loss journey going, since diet is just as important as exercise, if not more so.

After the pandemic, I went through a life transition, which meant attending far more social functions and finding far less time to workout. Christina and Drew were nonjudgmental and completely accepting that my life priorities were different now, so our training and coaching would reflect maintaining a base level of health and fitness as opposed to the level of dedication I had during the Pandemic. My core is still as strong as ever, but I have definitely regained a few pounds.

Christina and Drew are truly kind, supportive, and helpful in trying to fill whatever blindspots you're struggling with in your health journey. For example, when I had questions on difficult subjects like resting metabolic rates of calorie burning between a pound of muscle vs a pound of fat, they did their homework on their own time to get me an answer. It really shows they are personally invested in your health and success, no matter what your individual goals may be. I unequivocally recommend working with Active Wellness to anyone who is able.

I have been working consistently with Drew and Christina for over 2 years, and cannot recommend them highly enough. I've participated in each of their comprehensive offerings during that time - from group wellness coaching to individual personal training (including virtual!) and have seen real outcomes both physically and mentally. Drew and Christina tag-team their fitness sessions, which provides a rich variety of techniques and exercises and keeps me engaged, working hard, and seeing results! It really differentiates them from other places I've tried. They also transitioned seamlessly to a virtual model during COVID - doing WONDERS with what they could still have me do in my small living room space. I can't recommend Active Wellness enough! I've worked with Christina and Drew for 3 years and they are fantastic trainers and health coaches who take a holistic approach to wellness and fitness. They are both incredibly warm and create a soothing and safe environment for working out, recharging, and discussing my health/wellness goals such as improving sleep, stress management, and nutrition. I've worked with them both in person and virtually during covid and after moving out of the area. It was so great to continue our sessions through my job transitions and have continuity with our training. I particularly enjoy how flexible the sessions are and how they are specifically tailored to my goals for the day such as stress reduction through meditation or if I want a more high intensity work out. Both Christina and Drew would ask about my energy level at the start of my session and are very careful to not push my body over the limit. They would constantly check on me during various exercises to make sure I wasn't experiencing any back or knee pain and would modify the work outs based on any identified pain or strain. It has been a joy to work with Christina and Drew and I would highly recommend them for your fitness or wellness needs.

During December of 2020, I decided that 2021 was going to be the year of fitness for me. After being stuck at home for 9 months due to the pandemic, I started feeling exhausted mentally and physically, and all of my bad eating habits had been amplified due to the isolation. I was having back and neck problems due to sitting on my desk too long. As someone who still considered myself a "young adult", this scared me. I reached out to Christina, not even knowing what goals or milestones I want to achieve, but hoping I could for once pay full attention to my health and body. During our assessment, Christina gently pointed out my posture and the workouts we can focus on to improve.

Session after session, I felt like my body was pushed to the best of my ability. Drew and Christina were able to seamlessly identify weak points despite only using a camera. We worked on my strength and flexibility at the same time using many different workouts including weights, boxing, planks, yoga, meditation and more. Under continuous exercising, my back pain went away and I started envisioning an active life after quarantine was over. One of my proudest moments was when I was able to do my first real push up. Additionally, with their group coaching sessions, I realized that diet and exercise comes hand in hand. Like a snowball, my good habits started accumulating, and I felt better and better.

Christina and Drew provided me guidance and toolkits to be stronger mentally and physically. After 15 months of training, I can say with confidence that I have never felt happier about myself as I embark on my journey forward. Most importantly, I feel disciplined and comfortable with the person I am now. I would not have been able to do this without them.

Praise for Active Wellness!

Despite being very active and healthy, I still had chronic back pains, worsening posture, and osteoporosis, so I thought Pilates might help. Initially I picked Active Wellness simply because I live close by, but I quickly realized they were the perfect partners for me in achieving better fitness. Drew and Christina tailored my exercises to be both mindfully paced and physically and mentally challenging. I so appreciated the depth of their knowledge and experience, their explanations and attention to details. Together we worked out a schedule that met my needs.

I’d been working with them for almost a year when the pandemic curtailed my regular swimming and massage, as well as in person sessions with Christina and Drew. Yet my back pains had already disappeared, and have still not returned 10 months later while I have continued to exercise diligently at home. Though I was reluctant at first, I tried Zoom sessions in the summer and fall, and found them surprisingly effective. All three of us recognized that I had met my basic goals and was motivated to maintain them on my own, so my last session was in mid-December.

I heartily recommend Christina and Drew, whose styles and techniques complement each other’s so well, providing a very well-rounded training program.

I vividly remember sitting inside the Active Fitness studio on my 31st birthday, talking to Christina and sharing my hopes for our time training together. At the time, I had goal tunnel vision. The only thing I cared about was rebuilding my atrophied leg, a symptom of full knee construction that had turned my quad, hamstring and calve into whispers of their original selves. I couldn't kneel, squat, lunge or even sit for prolonged periods of time without pain. My health insurance offered 8 weeks of physical therapy and then I was on my own. This is when I decided to invest in myself, not realizing how many layers of “health” would be strengthened in the training process.

Christina and Drew were thoughtful in their approach. If I was a betting woman, I would guess that they knew my goals would blossom as I felt more control over my knee recovery. Every week, we saw little gains and I found myself asking questions, not just about my knee but about diet, mental health, routine, self-image, and mindfulness. A year of training with Christina and Drew brought me to an incredible place. I feel physically strong. I feel disciplined and capable. I feel like I can trust myself to take good care of my body and brain. And most of all, I feel really comfortable in my own skin – what a relief!

Halfway through our year together, we shifted to Zoom because of COVID-19 - It was so important to have their support from home during a time when mental and physical health is so important. If you need a team behind you during this really difficult pandemic, I highly recommend that you invest in yourself by working with Christina and Drew. Their training quality via Zoom is excellent and it's pandemic safe!

If you already love working out and just need a push and some accountability, you will absolutely get that here. If you hate working out, or if you haven't in a long time, or if the idea of getting a personal trainer brings up a lot of resistance, you should *definitely* consider working with Christina and Drew, and keep reading :)

When I met Christina and Drew about a year ago, my career and life were in flux. I had an unpredictable schedule that was not conducive to a consistent routine. I was afraid of judgment, had become obsessively self-conscious about my body, and simply felt stuck. The idea of working out in public (especially in front of super fit trainers!) was NOT what I wanted. In fact, I did not seek out training from Active Wellness! My sister found them online and thought they would be good for me, so she asked them to reach out. When I received a call from Christina one evening, I was frustrated at having this thrown at me, and I was planning to politely decline and cut the call short. But Christina is so welcoming and warm that I was compelled to listen. She proceeded to spend over an hour on the phone with me (at 9pm no less!), coaching me around what I wanted in my life overall, and the obstacles I was facing. I was struck by her gentleness, her attentiveness, and her generosity. She felt sincere in her intention to help me. And because she had also been so specific about the work she and her husband, Drew, had done with clients in the past, so clear about the range of clients they work with, and so passionate about their principles as fitness professionals, I was willing to give it a try.

To my surprise, I enjoyed my workouts at Active Wellness, especially with Drew. He is tough but patient -- a pragmatic trainer who doesn't waste time but still cares. He starts where you are and builds a foundation that focuses on technique and long-term growth over speed. You can definitely get high-intensity workouts with both of them! But Christina and Drew also customize your experience based on what you need in that moment. For example, after an ankle injury, I started using their Pilates Reformer. It wasn't as intense, but it was definitely better than not leaving my house!

Christina and Drew's adaptability, coupled with their willingness to continue supporting me no matter what, made my time at Active Wellness very meaningful. Over the past year, I canceled many sessions last minute and couldn't prioritize this commitment in the midst of so much else. Not long after I started with them, things had escalated in my professional and personal life such that I shut down and just stopped scheduling sessions. I think Christina and Drew knew I needed space, and they gave it to me. They very easily could have never been in touch again (I had already paid them for a few months of training!). But after some time, I received a very kind email from Christina, checking in and asking if I might want to come in again. I was shocked. This was not about business for them; they were genuinely invested in my journey. Christina and Drew embody integrity: they are committed to their clients. They want the best for you, and they will not give up on you, even if you are ready to give up.

The highlight of my time at Active Wellness was one-on-one coaching with Christina, which we did after I moved from New Haven. I have worked with a lot of coaches in the past, and Christina is fantastic. She let me talk when she knew I needed to be heard; she had me re-evaluate my vision and values from what I had articulated several months earlier; she asked questions that helped me to better understand myself and to establish extremely concrete steps to reaching goals. No goal, and no accomplishment, was ever too small to celebrate.

It is true that I did not lose the weight I had (unrealistically) hoped to lose. (I didn't put in the work necessary to make that happen). However, I did start to feel comfortable in my own skin, learn that exercise makes me feel better, and feel empowered about my decisions. And that has been invaluable.

My experience has only been positive with Active Wellness. Both Christina and Drew are fabulous trainers who worked with me in setting my goals and laying foundations for improving my overall form and technique. Every session was met with a very warm hello from Christina and they graciously would set my mat and fill up my water bottle. Then it was all work—and for the hour session Drew would force me to work harder in different body weight exercises to improve my strength and fitness. As a resident physician, I have always struggled with finding time and space for a dedicated work-out and these sessions greatly improved my personal wellness and made me healthier and more energetic at work and at home. Drew and Christina also are very savvy about not stressing the body to its limit and I always felt that I was in a safe location with trainers who understood the mechanics of the body and would appropriately change an exercise when I was having pain. Christina is undoubtedly the best personal trainer I have worked with, and I have worked with a few, across New York, Chicago and Connecticut. I started training with her 6 months after the birth of my first child. My pregnancy had been difficult and painful with severe pelvic girdle pain. I felt overwhelmed with the task of putting my body back together. The trainer I had worked with in CT prior to working with Christina had been the type to urge me to “walk off the pain”. That approach was not only physically unsafe for me (my doctor’s opinion), but also ineffective in the achievement of my goals for my body post-partum. A few of my goals were: restore strength, increase range of motion, build endurance, improve balance and alignment, and establish a workout routine.

With a newborn at home, I wasn’t able to go to a gym on a consistent basis. I feel so fortunate to have found Christina. She has a program that offers in-home sessions. For the first few months of our time together, Christina came to my home twice a week and customized each workout to what my body needed that day. We targeted all the muscle groups to achieve my health/fitness goals. I felt safe training with Christina because she is certified in medical fitness and her knowledge of the human body is impressive. She guided me on the safest way to exercise, which was important to me because I wanted to avoid injuries.

I took a break from training for several months when I got pregnant again. Christina kept in touch and followed up at our agreed upon time to re-start our workouts. I re-started my workouts with her at her studio where I trained with her for over two years.

I have trained with Christina for more than four years (including time off for my second pregnancy). Every work out was customized to achieve my goals and responsive to what my body needed on any given day. It was never a cookie-cutter approach.

On days I was sleep-deprived and tired (a new-mom constant), we did more mat work and modified the exercises and still got a decent workout. On days I had energy, we pushed to the limits of my endurance to get my heart rate to its peak. When I wanted more play in my workouts, she incorporated dance and introduced a variety of new exercises I enjoyed, always changing our workouts to keep them fresh and new for me. It helps that she can teach Yoga, Pilates, Barre, and most other forms of fitness regimens. Some days she incorporated meditation into our workouts, which was a bonus. Even though it took out more time from her schedule, during the summer months she suggested outdoor workouts and we worked out at the beach twice and once went on a trail.

Christina provided just the right kind of motivation I needed – she pushed me when I needed to be pushed and worked with me where I was, without judgement. At all times I felt that she was sincerely invested in my success.

Over the years my health/fitness goals evolved. After achieving my initial goals of rebuilding and restoring, I aimed at losing the pregnancy weight, which I did, as a result of changing my eating habits and working out regularly. Christina and I kept regular track of my progress and she kept me accountable on my commitments.

The most helpful thing for me was how Christina really helped me think through my motivation behind continuing to pursue a fit and healthy lifestyle and how it connected to my overall wellness. I am so grateful to her for helping me make that connection.

Christina is not only an outstanding personal trainer but a wonderful person and I look forward to our workouts. For anyone exploring working with a personal trainer, I would say, book with her before her schedule gets full and she stops taking new clients, because for someone of her caliber, it is only a matter of time.

I was looking for personal training in a private, clean studio environment where I would feel comfortable and I found it here! The trainers here really worked on helping me improve my physical fitness and focused the workouts around my specific weight loss goals. They really coached me through changing my eating, exercising and sleep habits and helped me create new healthy habits. If you are looking for a place to work out and get healthy I suggest giving Active Wellness a try. I first met Drew ten years ago right before my 50th birthday. I trained with him one to two times per week for six years and lost 30lbs. I then worked out on my own for three years but I wasn't getting results. Just before my 60th birthday I met with Christina for a wellness coaching session. The questions she asked helped me verbalize what it was that I wanted to achieve for the next phase of my physical fitness and wellness. Drew and Christina tailored an exercise plan to meet my needs. They took guidance from my primary care physician and chiropractor. I have health conditions that are now under control -- hypertension, back pain and arthritis in my knees. This time I came to my personal training sessions two times a week for six months. I used the virtual club membership and worked out two times per week on my own as well. Through my wellness coaching sessions I became aware of creating healthier eating habits. I worked on having portion control, eating more fruits and vegetables and eating more lean proteins. I have lost 18lbs, dropped bodyfat and lost 3.5 inches off my waist! In total I have lost 48lbs! I am now in a maintenance phase and coming to my personal training sessions one time per week and working out on my own three times per week. It's been rewarding to achieve the goals I have set for myself!
