I brought my 10-year-old son in for a fitness assessment and was extremely disappointed with the experience. The trainer who was supposed to be working with my child was constantly distracted because he had brought his two toddlers with him to the session. Instead of giving my son his full attention and a professional assessment, the trainer was repeatedly interrupted by his kids running around and needing care.
As a parent, I expected a safe, focused, and professional environment for my child. Instead, it felt chaotic and unprofessional. If this is how sessions are run, I cannot recommend D1 Training Norwalk to other families looking for serious athletic training for their children.

I enrolled my 11-year-old son at this gym to receive high-quality training that would help him prepare for his football season. Initially, the experience was great—he enjoyed his workouts and connected well with the coaches. However, over time, his experience deteriorated due to a lack of supervision, sessions ending prematurely without reason, and ultimately, a serious safety incident that became the final straw.
During his most recent session with Coach Mason, my son was performing a strength band-assisted pull-up without proper support or guidance. The resistance band snapped unexpectedly, striking him in the face and injuring his lips, cheek, and left eye. This incident could have resulted in severe, lasting harm, including irreversible eye damage. When I addressed the issue with Coach Mason, he casually admitted that he had been “watching” other children instead of actively spotting my son to ensure his safety.
This marks the third injury my son has sustained at this facility. When I spoke to the new manager, instead of acknowledging these repeated safety concerns, he implied that my son might be "prone to injury"—a statement that I found both dismissive and unacceptable.
The first incident involved mild bruising on his upper traps and shoulders due to improper placement of a weighted bar—something a trainer should easily catch and correct. The second occurred during a bench press exercise when my son was left unattended, struggling to lift the weighted bar off his chest. He eventually lost control, causing the bar to pin him down before falling on his face and back near hazardous gym equipment.
Despite these injuries, the facility lacks basic first aid supplies and protocols. Instead of receiving appropriate medical attention, my son was handed a Gatorade to place on his eye—a response that was both insufficient and highly unprofessional. When I inquired about their injury protocol, the "coaches" dismissed my concerns, stating that their approach is simply to call the parents—an unacceptable response to safety incidents.
I strongly encourage parents to thoroughly research D1 Training Norwalk before enrolling their children, as the current lack of oversight poses a serious risk of injury. I was informed that the facility is undergoing a transition to new management and ownership, and I sincerely hope they prioritize safety and implement necessary changes to protect young athletes.
As for me, I will not be placing my son at risk again, nor can I recommend this facility.

Weird experience…
Walked in to see a guy sitting doing nothing, apparently waiting for his 9am class at 8:24 . I tried to engage with light conversation and his body language along with personality was just like why are you even talking to me?.. I’m assuming this place isn’t cheap it’s probably just hard to find good help. Wasted a dollar for parking time to get there and lost all excitement about the place that’s right around the corner from where I live.
In response: Not at this time. I’m looking for a higher level team. Not just a facility. I’ll be passing by every day. Possibly 6-8 months the bold bright Signage will bring me in again. I’m a sucker for marketing. Take my review as constructive criticism not a personal attack.

Josh, Ben, and Evan lead exceptional classes that keep everyone engaged and motivated. They are always present to provide guidance and make necessary corrections, ensuring that everyone gets the most out of their workout. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, adding to the overall positive experience. You really finish up a class feeling like a million dollars.

I joined D1 because I was having trouble keeping myself accountable and putting the effort into work outs at my home gym. I wasn't seeing the results I wanted doing things on my own. I had done personal training in the past and felt that was the best way for me to achieve my fitness goals. When I signed up at D1 they had me come in for a fitness assessment/challenge. When I saw the word "challenge" I was freaked out, but it was really just time to discuss my goals and for them to assess where I was at. They paired me with Josh and I was shocked by his ability to assess things about my flexibility that I didn't even know about myself. He even asked if I had a previous groin injury, which I had totally forgotten about. All from one hour of me moving around doing various exercises. I have been training with Josh twice a week for the past 6 weeks and have seen positive changes in my strength and my mentality about going to the gym and eating healthy. He always checks in to see what I've been eating, without being overbearing and having me log my meals (that is an option if you're into that). I feel challenged at each session and while my workouts are taken very seriously, I have fun and laugh every time I am there. In the past I have found it very intimidating to go to gyms where people are that much more fit or stronger than me, but the vibe at D1 is so friendly that you don't even think about that after being there for a few minutes. I have recently found myself saying "I wish I could go to the gym every day" which is something I have never said before in my life. If you are looking to make a change - no matter how big or small - and want some help, I highly recommend the team at D1 Norwalk.

This is a fantastic gym for anyone looking to change their bodies and change their outlook on fitness.
While they are very much a group which trains pre-collegiate and pre-pro athletes - I know nothing about that. I’m an actress who does ballet, and I wanted to challenge myself - and I got that challenge.
This is a team of coaches who are caring to each individual beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. As a person who has never touched a weight rack (is that even what it’s called?) I feel challenged, informed, supported and SAFE at all times, doing something that was completely new to me.
I’ve learned so much from the coaches about the right way to work out, the SAFE way to work out, the best way to eat for working out - things that you can find on you YouTube, but it’s not anywhere near what you can learn from working out with these coaches.
Todd, the owner, is incredible and is eager to work with each client to tailor their personal experience at D1.
The coaches I’ve worked with - Evan, Ben and Marc, are all amazing at what they do. They’re all very serious about what they want to get done for each individual, but each bring their own humor to the workouts so they’re truly fun - even when you leave looking like you just spent an hour in a sauna.
If you have kids working towards professional sports careers - this is the place to go. If you’re somebody looking to get into great shape, pardon me - INCREDIBLE shape - go here.
You owe it yourself to go to D1. You will not regret it.

D1 Training Norwalk is phenomenal, a fitness experience I've had nowhere else. I signed up for the 6 week challenge on a whim. I was brand new to weight rooms, barbells, strength training, circuit workouts, team workouts in small groups. Hadn't walked on a green turf, since HS marching band days. An absolute beginner.
After just 3 months, D1 is improving my overall health in countless, unanticipated ways. Beyond better weight & blood pressures stats. I've seen measurable, remarkable improvements in my strength, flexibility, mobility, endurance, focus, confidence, and mindset. I came in with back and knee problems, and D1 coaches offered ways to grow stronger while my injuries healed.
Highly recommended above all, for the D1 Norwalk coaches. They are encouraging, attentive, dedicated; and they push you to achieve your best results. Yet, these coaches *always* watch and educate you to stay safe, and not injure yourself. Eager to teach better form, and to explain muscles we're targeting. Humane. Patient. Never ever shaming. Never mocking.
I love their enthusiasm! D1 Norwalk coaches are quick to note if members are struggling. They will jump in to push with, and along side you. Quick to praise, fist bump, and say "good job".
Also, D1 members come in at every fitness level, and all are respectful. I love that D1 workouts are designed to be fun & competitive workouts, satisfying both to the most advanced athletic members, and to us newcomers. I love how D1 workouts allow us to pause to root for each other.
Notably, this is not a gym. No mirrors. No barrage of TV screens & entertainment overhead. At D1 Training Norwalk , I am 100% present, learning how to connect my mind, body, breathing and focus, to push myself. The D1 coaches are the mirrors, they reflect the 'feedback' I need. It's a space that invites us to test limits. Because D1 coaches are vigilant, we don't risk self-injury. It's been an education in how to handle equipment too.
The benefits of D1 training I find are spilling over into everyday life. D1 Training Norwalk's workouts and consults with coaches are yielding for me better sleep and sharper concentration.
The trusting and safe space created by the wonderful D1 coaches & community team spirit are why I'm certain the results I've gotten from D1 workouts will be lasting.

I’ve been going to D1 for about 2 months now and I love it. The classes are relatively small and there are a lot of times to choose from. I appreciate the thoughtfulness the D1 team brings to their programming. Each workout is structured and with a purpose, and encourages you to get stronger while doing so in a safe manner, which unfortunately isn’t always the case at strength based gyms.
While strength is the focus, there are many opportunities in each workout to increase cardio and endurance, which contributes to the well-rounded nature of the programming.
The coaches are top notch and incredibly knowledgeable, allowing members at all stages of their fitness journey to feel confident and comfortable when entering the gym.

Coming off an injury and being down for 2 months was tough. Coming back to D1 was an amazing feeling. Everyone was so welcoming and the coaches were really attentive with post injury while providing alternate exercises to work the same muscles if I was unable to do one of the exercises due to pain level. As a former D3 athlete, I'm pretty hype that I'm off the bench and in a D1 gym! Jokes aside, this place is awesome. It's exactly the type of gym I've been looking for where the workouts are challenging but in a group setting that's motivating. Every single person who works there is incredibly nice. They all make an effort to know everyone's name who walks through the door - which seems like a little thing, but is important in building a community. The coaches make it fun and provide really good feedback on form. But don't get me wrong - they won't let you slack off! If you're picking up a weight they know is too light - Luke and Aiden will call you out. So, if you're looking for a place that will hold you accountable - this is your gym.

I was having some difficulty holding myself accountable in the gym. D1 fell into my lap as they have some top notch advertising. Kathleen was very helpful with getting me signed up and started. I told her I was looking for something Crossfit-Esque, with high intensity training along with olympic weightlifting. This is the PERFECT match for me. I would recommend D1 Training Norwalk to anybody. The coaches I have worked with during adult classes, specifically Aidan and Spencer are phenomenal. They bring high energy, are very attentive and push you to your limits. What I love about D1 compared to CrossFit gyms or any other open gym is the specific workout regimen that is followed. Percentages are used and weights are specifically tailored to YOU as an athlete. The coaches focus on form and injury prevention. We also test out every 8 weeks to see actual quantitative data on improvements. On top of this all, we got CJ in the house who is the best hype-man anybody could ask for.
I felt incredibly welcomed the second I stepped into the D1 facility and am happy that this place feels like home to me. Thank you D1 trainers and staff for all of your support.

Love this place. I had been going to another gym in the area, but missed the sense of community that comes from group workouts. D1 has more than made up for that and has also kept me challenged. The coaches I’ve worked with - John, Luke, and Aiden - are great. Even in the group workout settings, they really focus on coaching each individual.

You get everything you are looking for in this gym! There’s Adult classes and Kids classes. There’s personal training and group classes. The thing is even in a group setting you never feel alone or left out. You always feel like you are part of a team! Everyone is motivating you and pushing you during the warmup, performance, strength, conditioning and down to the breakdown! ✋
When you walk through the doors you are immediately greeted by Kathleen (The General Manager) or one of the recruiters - Evan & Christian and if you’re lucky Todd (The Facility Owner) 😃 The Coaches always greet you as well! Aiden (The Lead Coach), Spencer, John, Luke & Jimmy all have great knowledge, backgrounds and energy. I personally have a preference for male coaches because they are more professional and you still get the same energy as the female coaches give off. Soo if you’re a female reading this don’t be intimidated by male coaches. Or if you’re tired of not getting pushed to your potential, again, this crew is amazing! I enjoy the breakdown or “split” that is scientifically based and gets switched up every 8 weeks. - lower body on Mon/Thurs, upper body on Tues/Fri, and full body on Wed/Sat. You will see and feel results by week 2-3 🙌

This place is amazing! Ever since moving to CT around two years ago, I’ve been looking for a new gym to call home. I saw an add on Instagram and sent in my phone number to get more information. Kathleen called me within a few hours and spent the time to learn what I was looking for and answer all the questions I had. I joined before they were even open because I knew it would be perfect for me. I’ve been coming to classes since the beginning. The facility is brand new and beautiful. All the coaches focus on correct movements and keeping you safe while making you strong. Aiden corrected my squats within a minute and Luke saw a limitation with my bench press for which he scheduled a private session to figure out what was going on (and he did!). There’s a big sense of team work and everyone leaves tired but with a smile on their faces.
