The new London community rec center is clean, easily accessible and has courteous staff that can assist with equipment and account problems. The center itself is great. There app is a little confusing and doesn't work entirely as expected, so I ended up loading my gym membership in to my Google wallet so I don't have to deal with the app.

The place is truly lovely and for the price and whats it offers don’t get me wrong love almost everything about it but a few of the staff have been truly cocky other than that its been great people could most definitely do better with their attitudes.. an not being disrespectful when children are around the passive aggressiveness is intense.

I have been enjoying this facility for about a week and it's been a pleasant surprise and exceeded my expectations. The pool is great and they have a good assortment of classes that you can take. I have found the staff helpful and friendly in all my encounters. The cost is very reasonable, especially because the classes are included in that price.

Very nice facility, but the cleanliness of the ladies' locker room has much to be desired. The floors are consistently wet and slippery. There is so much hair on the floor of every shower that the water doesn't drain properly. Shame.

Let me tell you, if you're looking for a place that truly serves the whole community, the New London Community Center is it. From what I hear, this isn't just a building; it's a real hub where folks of all ages can come together and thrive.
They've got a fantastic eight-lane pool that's perfect for the kids and grown-ups alike, and a gymnasium that sounds like it's buzzing with activity. And it's not just about sports, no sir! They've got classrooms, child care, and all sorts of programs, from cooking classes to fitness, and even some great stuff for us seniors like chair yoga and social activities. It's clear they've thought about everybody.
The city really pulled together to make this happen, and it shows. It's a beautiful, modern facility designed to promote well-being and keep folks active. It sounds like the kind of place you walk into and just get that "wow factor." A real asset for New London, bringing folks together and giving everyone a place to feel at home.

Weight Room Feedback and Health Concerns
As someone who cares about this facility and its long-term excellence, I’d like to offer some constructive observations that I believe would enhance both the cleanliness and the overall experience in the weight room and gym areas:

1. Hygiene Standards: Cleaning After Use
Unfortunately, many users are not wiping down machines or equipment after use. For example, the StairMaster was left visibly covered in sweat. This is not only unpleasant, it poses a serious health risk. Shared gym equipment is a known transmission point for infections such as:
-Fungal: Athlete’s foot, ringworm
-Bacterial: Staph infections (including MRSA), impetigo
-Viral: Warts, common cold viruses, etc.

To mitigate this, I strongly suggest:
-Clear signage reminding members to wipe down equipment after each use. Visual reminders work—especially when behavior isn’t consistent without them.
-More accessible cleaning stations (paper towels + spray bottles) placed throughout the weight area. If it’s not convenient, people won’t use them.
-Consider requiring members to carry a towel, especially if wipes or sprays are not immediately available. The current wipes (Pyrex) simply spread sweat rather than cleaning it effectively.

2. Weight Room Flooring
The light gray floor color in the weight area may look modern but shows every black mark from weights and rubber contact. A darker or speckled flooring would have been a more durable and visually forgiving choice, something any experienced weight room designer would factor in. It’s already showing signs of wear and it will only get worse.

3. Basketball Court Atmosphere
The wall divider makes the court feel unnecessarily cramped. I’d suggest:
-Keep the divider open during non-game times or casual shootarounds.
-Only close it when there are two official games or practices requiring separate space.

This would create a more open, energizing environment.

4. Atmosphere and Amenities
-Play music through the speakers in the weight room. Music creates energy, community, and helps motivate people.
-Turn on the TVs. Right now, they are unused assets that could help enhance the vibe.

Final Note:
None of this is a complaint for the sake of complaining. These are low-cost, high-impact improvements that promote cleanliness, community culture, and professionalism. It’s about making this a gym people respect and return to, because they feel safe, seen, and energized every time they walk in.

Let’s raise the standard and make this space as excellent as the people who use it.
