Title: Planet Fitness Stamford Harborview – Poor Communication and Unprofessional Service

Review:
I have been a long-term member of Planet Fitness Stamford (Harborview), CT, and I am extremely disappointed by how a simple and reasonable request was handled regarding the gym closure for renovations.

Timeline of Events:
No Notification of Closure:
The club was closed for renovation from late September through early November 2025. I received no email or notification regarding this closure. I discovered the closure only when I arrived at the gym in late September or early October and saw a note on the door stating the club would reopen in October.

Initial Inquiry and Assurance:
In late October, I called the club to ask about the reopening date. A staff member informed me the renovation was delayed until November and assured me I could request a refund once the gym reopened. She even noted this on my account.

Multiple Attempts to Contact the Manager:
After the gym reopened, I visited the front desk to request my refund. I was told I must call the club manager, Tiffany, at a number that required a transfer. My first call reached a staff member who said the manager was unavailable and asked me to call another day.

Interaction with the Manager (Nov 25, 2025):
When I finally reached Tiffany:
She refused to issue a refund, stating a membership credit might be possible but only if I came in person for verification, despite having my profile and photo visible on her screen.
She insisted that an email about the closure had been sent, which I never received and later confirmed did not exist.
She could not verify me over the phone, which felt unreasonable given that all identifying information had already been provided.

Retaliation After Feedback (Nov 26, 2025):
After leaving honest feedback through the automated survey, I visited the gym in person. Tiffany informed me that only her supervisor could now handle the matter, refused to provide contact information, and told me I would need to wait 1–2 weeks to be contacted with no clear next steps. This approach felt dismissive, unhelpful, and inconsistent with the stated customer service standards of Planet Fitness.

Summary:
My request was straightforward: a refund or credit for two months during which I could not use the gym due to renovations about which I was never properly notified. Instead, I experienced inconsistent information, dismissive behavior, delays, and unprofessional treatment following honest feedback.

Impact:
This experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing as a loyal, long-term member. It is unacceptable that a major fitness chain would handle a simple refund request in such an obstructive and unprofessional manner.

Desired Resolution:
1. Refund or membership credit for the months when the gym was closed.
2. Clear contact with district/regional leadership to escalate and resolve the matter.
3. Review and improvement of customer service and escalation procedures at this location.

Actions Taken (for transparency):
To ensure this issue is properly reviewed, I have taken the following steps and am currently awaiting responses:
1. Submitted a formal written complaint to Planet Fitness’ Head of Customer Experience.
2. Filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
3. Filed a complaint with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.

I am sharing this information so that other members who may face similar situations understand their options and can protect their rights.

Decent PF location. They recently renovated and added an extra free weight section and two platformed squat rack sections. Added the assault bike which is a nice addition.
Not sure where we are supposed to stretch out now though? I did not see any areas to stretch like there used to be. Stretching is an essential part of many people’s exercise and right now I’ve had to stretch on random parts of the floor with no mat. Can this be addressed?

I've been going to this gym for a few years, as a guest with my dad's membership, then with my own more recently. This is a transparent review with some details especially for the women looking at this location:

Pros:
-The staff is always welcoming and attentive when addressed for help or questions in general at this location.
-There is an abundance of cardio machines.
-There were recent renovations so the bathrooms were re-done (clean showers finally), some new equipment was purchased, and the layout was more organized.
-They recently added free barbell racks (2), not just smith machines (4). Only one of the free weight racks has a mirror.
-There are some dumbbells & the hyper extension machine towards the back of the gym, with benches & mirrors, BEHIND the cardio equipment. Now you can do things like RDLs and Bulgarian split squats without feeling like you're bending over in front of everyone on the cardio machines (the three rows of abundance) and giving them a view of an uncomfortable angle.
-I have only ever had positive verbal encounters with all members who have ever spoken to me or vise versa.
-Black spa area has a door now so it's quieter and more relaxing. (They have two hydro massage chairs, two regular massage chairs, and three tanning beds I think. I don't tan with the beds so I'm not positive on that number)

Cons:
-After re-organization, the "stretching" area does not exist anymore except for a couple (1-2) awkward spots where it's tight and you feel like you're blocking walkways/pathways.

This was minus a star for me, because stretching is the most important part of my workout and now it's slightly stressful.

-All of the smith machines were rotated, so the bar is on the mirror side. Now if you want to do squats, you can't look at your form in the mirror, and you're bending over in front of the mirror- anyone with a view of the mirror now has an uncomfortable angle of you for that common exercise.
-Similarly, now when engaging in hip thrusts, you have to face everyone (i.e., your back is to the mirror and you're feet are facing the cable machines and cardio equipment, aka. the busiest part of the gym) which can be extremely uncomfortable at times especially if you work out in shorts. At least before [the smith machines were turned], the mirror was not too low, so it didn't even reflect this uncomfortable angle and your back had been facing the cardio equipment and everyone on it.

This was minus the second star for me because at the gym, the only thing I want to be worried about is my form and making sure I hit my rep/weight goals, not having to catch the occasional person staring between my legs or at my rear.

-No hip thrust machine.
-People aren't great in general about wiping equipment down at this location and the staff is not proactive on making sure everything is clean in this specific aspect, so I would wipe down everything before and after use, and even bring a small towel to sit on if it makes you more comfortable.

I've been to many gyms as a constantly traveling college student while I have this freedom. Some easy suggestions I think gym users would appreciate at this location:
-Flip two smith machines back, two mirror facing, and two cardio machine facing. This way people who want the support of the smith machine to really isolate the muscles they're trying to work don't have to worry about any members with wandering eyes viewing uncomfortable angles (not common at this location, but it does occasionally happen nonetheless), and we can see our form in the mirror for the exercises we need that help for.
-I know renovations aren't fully complete and this location just opened back up, but we NEED a stretching area. I don't want to stretch in the locker room and make people who are changing uncomfortable, and I don't want to feel like I'm in the way and uncomfortable while stretching out on the floor.

It's a solid gym where I'll be continuing my membership, so I recommend it; the quality is good for the price.

Waited until the Oct 13th for grand reopening, then got it delayed to the 31st, delayed again to Nov 4th and today was told to go away because they’re STILL haven’t opened yet. I’m very upset with the consistent delayed openings and fake promises. Management, please clarify this. Thank you.

The bathrooms, showers, 2 private changing areas are absolutely disgusting. Floors throughout the facility are dirty - ladies locker room floor has dust balls everywhere. Dust & dirt on the machines
Took photos this week of showers - who knows when they were last cleaned. Shows caddies missing from all 3 stalls.

I decided to workout before meeting my son for lunch, who just moved into the area.

This place was absolutely filthy and has second generation, antiquated equipment.

Towel dispensers were empty, spray bottles were leaking like faucets or empty.

I've been to Pf's in many different states and this was nasty. I have pictures!!

This use to be a nice, clean gym, was fun to go to. I've been a member for many years and this gym has changed currently and for the worse. Staff use to clean the gym, the equipment often throughout the day and now they never clean the equipment or any part of the gym, it smells very horrible and unbearable to smell. This planet fitness smells incredibly horrible and smells like trash. There is mold in the bathrooms and in the showers. How do you expect me to get clean when the shower is not clean. Although I have my own elliptical machine at home in my apartment, and my building has a fitness center, I joined planet fitness because it is included as a Medicare benefit. This gym is well stocked with all the equipment you could possibly need, and there is enough so that you almost never have to wait. The equipment is clean and their ellipticals are the best Brand: Precor. If your goal is to build up strength, there is plenty of resistance equipment. If your goal is to build cardiovascular fitness, again, there is plenty of different types of equipment. Although I am elderly, I still run occasional 5K races, and the cardiovascular equipment keeps me fit for that purpose. I am undergoing physical therapy for osteoarthritis, and much of the equipment is the same type of equipment that my physical therapist has me using in my sessions. The Stanford planet fitness has all the equipment you could need for whatever your fitness goals are.

I think Julie is a great manager. She is very approachable and is always kind and receptive of feedback. From what I’ve seen, she does a good job at delegating tasks and is constantly involved with her employees. I was skeptical about joining Planet after coming from Chelsea Piers, but was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness, cleaning stations, and the modern equipment I needed to accomplish my workouts.

A few things I don’t like:
I find the bag policy to be very stupid. While I understand it is to protect one’s valuables, I think it is inconvenient/ frustrating for someone like me who only carries around my gym equipment to put it in a locker.

Also, to be noted—The gym etiquette of members at times can be obnoxious. I think it’s inconsiderate to monopolize multiple machines at a time especially on busy days/times. This happens most often with the cable machine. If there were more available, it’d be fine but as of now it’s just annoying.

Fix the treadmills and clean the gym. Half the treadmills are always out of service or don't go past 1.0 speed. The floors are nasty. I'm sorry when I started coming here it was so clean and I loved it. Not sure what is happening. Also, is there anyone that ever goes around picking up random weights and bars that are left on the ground? I literally almost tripped thank goodness there was a wall in front of me. Every time I go to any planet fitness location you can feel the same good energy of the stuff they are always there to help in any situation and I love the attention they put on every member, this is not the only part that I love of being a member of planet fitness, their prices are ridiculous insane cheap the best membership that I can recommend for sure is the clack card it has great benefits from having fifty percent off in drinks, access to the massage room, tan and the best part is that you can bring a buddy or your favorite person to workout out together .

I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent experience at your gym, leading me to rate it one star. The unwelcoming atmosphere, largely due to the manager with blonde hair and large glasses, was disheartening. This manager was quick to write up members for slightly slamming weights, which, while understandable to maintain a quiet environment and avoid bad equipment, seemed excessively strict, especially towards newcomers unfamiliar with all the rules. This rigid enforcement and passive aggressive approach created a negative and discouraging atmosphere, which is unfair and unmindful of those trying to start their fitness journey. While you are silent it is a good gym but when you demand your rights you are an unwanted person. I started my membership on June 6th 2024 . I had never used a gym in this country and I went because my best friend has been visiting me for months. After paying they added me as a friend without my authorization to my membership and the day I wanted to take my sister as a guest I couldn't. That day we saw two profiles that had her in the system, one with a photo and one without a photo, I demanded an explanation and they didn't give it to me, the girl just told me. She made a note that she wouldn't let me in because she felt intimidated by my presence, only because I complained loudly and made my usual gestures while she was talking and she used a translator because I can't even speak English fluently. I felt discriminated against in that situation. I asked for an advisor who speaks Spanish, it's incredible, 75% of the clients are Latinos in that gym and there is no one who speaks Spanish. It's just an announcement that they do not have trained personnel to serve and today I went to ask my husband for an explanation. It does say that they said they canceled my membership because they do not deserve to continue paying for a service where without their authorization they manipulate your membership and also have the great abuse of placing restrictions on you.

I have contacted Planet Fitness corporate, the Better Business Bureau in hopes that someone reads these reviews that my son posted and does something about Julie, the gym manager and John, regional manager. They are terrible. Julie specifically NEEDS TO GET FIRED. The way they treated my son, Brian Green Jr and my brother Robert Green, who had been a member with Planet Fitness for over 15 years is APPALING. I tried contacting this location by phone last month and some guy, possibly Kevin not sure who, didn't want to talk to me and hung up. I live between NYC and CT and PF's chains are the only ones that are conveniently located in both, and as a black card member I've frequented quite a few branches in my time. With an astonishing level of consistency, I can say that this outlet is the finest and cleanest. You can tell a fairly robust tight ship is run here under the stewardship of Julie. I can't speak to the locker rooms or shower facilities as I run to and from the gym, but the equipment always seems to be in excellent order. Julie and co are often proactively walking around the facility testing and quality-assuring different components of the gym, which is great to see. Keep it up, and we could use your standards in a few NY locations!

Starting off with 3 stars but we’ll see how it goes. I recently signed up and my first day there, last week, I walk in and ask politely if someone can give me a tour. There were 3 people standing there and only the gentleman offered once he was finished with another customer. I said it was ok, I can show myself around. But you would think the other 2 ladies standing there, doing NOTHING could have given me a tour

Julie goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone is safe and enjoying their workouts. Well if you like having your workout disrupted by rude people on their phone having loud, lengthy phone conversations this is the place for you. The only thing they're working out is their mouths. Guess they have to have something to distract them from actually working out. Sometimes people clean the machines after they use them, and sometimes they don't. Saw a guy the other day go to the bathroom and not wash his hands, and then proceed to workout on the gym floor🤮. Lots of rude and inconsiderate people work out at this gym. You have to wonder if these people were raised in a barn. Also, the gym is located on a construction site. Often smells like a sewer 🤢. There is limited parking spaces as well. The only reason I'm giving this gym 2 stars is the manager Julie. She is an absolute rockstar! Very friendly, kind, dedicated and works very hard to make this gym tolerable. She deserves a big raise

Update: Owner reached out to me and told me to speak to the club manager. I told the owner I already did that, and it was the club manager who told me to write a google review to get the owners attention, which I obviously did. The owner through e-mails told me the club manager needs to deal with these issues. So basically the owner didn't want to get involved, so nothing was done. Why bother wasting my time by reaching out to me and acting like you're concerned only to pass the baton and do nothing about it??? Planet Fitness should change their motto from No Judgement to Nobody Cares, at least at this location🙄

Can’t blame the staff for the lower rating they can only do so much. The members that go here have no gym etiquette. Weights never re racked or put back where they go, equipment never wiped down after use. Would be a better experience if the members that attend cared. Staff is cool, space and equipment are good. Members absolutely suck overall.

This place is a joke. I signed up for the gym back in August I have only been there once. I tried cancelling my account more than one time. I called and went in person and all I've gotten was an attitude and they have been charging me for 6 months. I can only cancel if I pay $35 when they told me to come after work and they will cancel no fees but the two gentleman laughed in my face. Also the manager is never there, she leaves during the day and is never available.

Update: I need the owner to contact me, as I sent an email and got a general response. Called planet fitness and the manager is unavailable. Please stop charging my account.

Its planet fitness, same rules everywhere, a few nice employees and some that really need to understand where they work, you cant leave your bag on the floor, you cant scream, you cant "exercise to loud" and you cant slam weights, its always crowded so dont except an empty gym, overall, you can get a good work out, this place in particular is really clean and has new machines.

I go to this gym as it is convenient for me to my job. Its unfortunate that there are 3 showers and only one shower actually has a showerhead on it and people have to wait IN LINE to shower after their workout. It has been like this for MONTHS. Now NONE of the showers have shower heads! They really need to get it together in this gym. I understand this is an affordable gym but hold urself at a higher standard then this because its getting ridiculous at this point seriously.

If this is the Planet Fitness in Stamford, I would suggest to the owner to shut down your Gym and remodel and update your facility. The free weight part is ok, as is the rest of the workout part of your Gym. Except your Gym is dark, old and crumbling.Your Lockers, Bathrooms are horrible, they might as well be part of an abandoned warehouse. Corporate should pay your facility a visit. In comparison to other Planet Fitness Facilities that I have been to, your dark, old antiquated gym desperately needs an upgrade and remodel. You have the space and location, why not improve it? And keep up to date with the other Planet Fitness Clubs.

Amazing staff, Julie and Kevin are absolutely EXCELLENT. The machines are plentiful and in fabulous condition. The cleanliness of the gym and machines are immaculate. I actually enjoy going to the gym because the staff are so kind, they make you feel like family. I have never been so impressed with a gym. Whoever said it was “shady” is 100% wrong and is biased..she’s blaming the area? It’s downtown Stamford, it’s wonderful.

My son has been with planet fitness for 4 years. When he inquired about canceling his membership he was told he had to wait for his contract to be up. Now it's time for his annual payment to process and when we went to canceled the payment had already processed. The general manager Julia would not cancel the payment. She insisted on charging my son an annual fee for a mambership that was being canceled. How are you charging him for something he will not use. Very nasty lady and very unprofessional.
