I started attending classes at Sanctuary several years ago and it has been such a joy to practice yoga there. Sanctuary is truly the platonic ideal of what a yoga studio should be. The classes are all excellent — while they vary somewhat from instructor to instructor they all include the same important key elements, making each class feel complete and satisfying.

I’m so grateful for the role that Heather and Sanctuary have played in my life these last few years. I am healthy and balanced and well because of the practice the studio has helped me to develop.

I started going to Sanctuary Yoga two years ago. It was my first time ever experiencing yoga, and I honestly had no idea what I was doing. All the classes offered here are for everyone-there isn’t one flow you can’t do. All of the instructors are amazing, and Heather the owner is very welcoming. My favorite class is Fridays with Cherise, I love that she plays music with her flow. I also love the slow flow on Saturday mornings with Heather. Another great add on to the yoga classes that I love is the Sound Healing with Vanessa. My experience at this studio has been nothing more than exceptional. It has helped me both physically and emotionally, and I’m so grateful I found it.

Those are the stairs to one of my favorite places. The stairs to the unknown, (philosophically/ existentially) I really never know what will transpire upon the mat. “Keep coming back” she says, in this morning’s class; to breath to body - is probably what she meant- to the moment. What came up for me, was that this studio… this space, for the past 12 years… I just keep coming back. I healed here, 12 years ago.. I grew a clinical private practice and a child here, I moved away and came back. I always keep coming back, and when I do, I’m a little more whole and centered and ready.
Re start, try again, do 1 more… keep…coming …. back.

After my second c-section, I was hesitant to enter a yoga studio. But I’ve heard it said that sometimes we need yoga the most when we want it the least. I am glad, that with some encouragement from my husband to do something I once enjoyed, I found my way back on the mat. When I landed there at Sanctuary Power Yoga, I found a piece of the peace I’d been seeking.

Heather and her amazing team have been incredibly supportive. Always welcoming, they have encouraged me during my personal health journey and celebrated wins along the way—yes, even when I joyfully exclaimed “I did a push-up!” at the end of class. I appreciate the gentle reminders that are provided throughout any class to listen to your body, let go of comparison, and approach each practice with grace. "In your own time, in your own way."

The spacious yoga studio full of mats is quite a sight!
A truly awesome place that brings together a booming supportive community that expands beyond those walls. I loved the outdoor classes at the park and lake this summer with birds swooping in to join.

Yoga has somehow become a part of my regular routine, not just for my body, but for my mind and spirit. Some days getting on the mat are easier than others but consistently leaving feeling better is great motivation to keep coming back. With gratitude I encourage anyone and everyone interested to give Sanctuary Power Yoga a try- whatever class you decide, settle in on the mat and find yourself.

Once there you'll see it is more than a studio—it’s a way to a space that provides the time to lighten up, breathe, and just be, present. A space you can return to again, on and off the mat. Start as you are, approach the practice and yourself with nonjudgement. You might find exactly what you need.

This studio has a lot of options, not just power and hot classes! The teachers are amazing, lots of options of classes and modifications are always encouraged. Thus was a perfect spot to recover from surgery and build my stamina and endurance back up.

I've been to many yoga studios, but this one stands out as a true gem. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a space that is both expansive and inviting. The large windows allow natural light to flood the room, highlighting the beautiful exposed brick and warm wood floors. It's an open space that somehow manages to feel cozy and intimate at the same time.

The variety of classes offered caters to all levels, from beginners to seasoned yogis. Each instructor brings something unique, but what truly sets this studio apart is Heather, the owner. Her love for people and passion for yoga are palpable in every aspect of the studio. She has created an environment where you not only improve your practice but also feel a deep sense of community and belonging.

Whether you're looking to deepen your yoga practice or just want a serene place to unwind, this studio is the perfect sanctuary. I can't recommend it highly enough!

I’ve been going to Santuary power yoga since March 2013. (Almost 10 yrs..WOW) I’ve earned my 200hr Power yoga certificate in Oct. 2014.
Santuary is a place I call HOME.. it’s a safe place where I sweat, move, transform and let go of whatever isn’t working for me in my life. It’s also a place where I allow myself to accept all good feeling of self love & love of others in. When I walk out I feel refreshed & energized for whatever comes next.
Thank you Heather for your love & commitment for helping others..
God Bless♥️ Gwen

I have been practicing yoga on and off for 20 years and I can honestly say that Heather is the best teacher I have ever had. The studio is beautiful, the atmosphere is calming and welcoming. Heather guides you through a yoga flow that helps with mind, body and spirit. I love going to Heather's class which has helped me to manage stress and anxiety AND I am in great physical shape. This studio is a hidden gem!

After symptoms flared two years ago, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that ended my 21 year career as a PE teacher. Sanctuary Yoga had been a big part of coping with my illness. After returning to yoga, I feel so much better. I have more capacity each day, and have been able to get back to some other activities like climbing and snowboarding, which I honestly didn't think I would ever do again. I'm so grateful for Sanctuary Yoga for the support in healing!

What I love about Sanctuary Power Yoga is that Everyone is welcome here. The community of folks who practice here and the instructors are wonderful! The space is really beautiful and the heated room is really the perfect temperature to help me ease into poses and not so hot that it's hard to breathe. Classes are also offered on-line so that I can have the option to practice in studio or from the comfort of my home or while traveling.

I never had done a Yoga Class until I went to Sanctuary. The way the instructors taught made it very easy, and natural for me to learn. They also offered a variety of different flows to best suit my needs on any given day. Now yoga has become a working part of my life a few times a week. The staff is very kind and the studio itself is really nice and spacious. I highly recommend Sanctuary Power Yoga!

Sanctuary is the place to practice yoga in Litchfield County! There are two studios to choose from, one in Canton and another in Torrington. Both are lovely spaces - clean, bright, and warm. The owner Heather is always around, teaching a number of classes herself, or sometimes taking a class with you! She is always doing more for the community through her studio - affordable passes, community events. Her choice of teachers is stellar - I love Andrew, Chris and Bettina. The community of practicioners is also friendly and welcoming. Try it!

I've been coming to Sanctuary for 6 years. They meet you where you are, no need to worry if you are a newbie. They take care of you. They remind you that it's YOUR practice, which for me has made all the difference.

I signed up for unlimited yoga classes in October at the studio in Torrington and have been going about 3 times per week. The power flow and open flow classes are heated (bring a towel and water!) which is a nice respite during these colder months. There is a good amount of variety in the flow from one class to the next so it’s never repetitive or boring. The instructors do a great job of explaining different modifications and encouraging students to work within their bodies’ limits and do what feels right for them in that particular moment. They create a welcoming, comfortable environment. On Thursday evenings they offer a candlelit gentle/restorative class which I look forward to each week. It’s so relaxing (a break from the faster pace of the flow classes) and often focuses on the health of the spine and joints. The studio itself is a good size, can fit about 50 people on their mats, but most classes I have attended have around 20-30. They sometimes offer discounts for unlimited monthly rates and special classes for holidays like the Halloween blacklight class and the Winter Solstice with candles and live music.

I have been going to Sanctuary Power Yoga in Canton for about five years. I really enjoy the classes and the teachers are always knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. The yoga itself challenges me to work hard and improve my balance and focus and breath. I like how the culture of the studio is extremely accepting of all yoga people and yoga bodies. I never feel judged or out of place. When I do yoga at other studios in other towns and states, even if I really enjoy it, I always come back to Sanctuary and feel like it is my home yoga studio.

I was excited to check the place and learn a little more about how a yoga class goes. Unfortunately the front desk person and also an instructor, was not helpful at all. Since I never done a class before, I was expecting him to tell me everything I needed to know (class hours, what to expect, what should I bring, the facility, etc). The 2 stars is for the looks of the place, which seems to be pretty nice, and because one of the members overheard me asking about family class, so she actually told me about it instead of the receptionist/instructor.
