My go to edge becuase it has a decent selection of equipment but more importantly is rarely too busy like every other edge in the area. However playing international soccer and division 2 volleyball on a Sunday over NFL football is one of the craziest things I’ve seen.

The WORST customer service I’ve ever experienced. The staff (Stephanie in membership) will lie and tell you that you weren’t charged for something only to find out they charged you twice! They take no accountability. They do nothing to provide service to the member, instead hiding behind contacts and making sure they get as much money from you as possible all while you decide to never return because of their sub par customer service. A real shame too because I really liked my trainer.

My trainer , Rich Lafontant, is beyond excellent. I’ve never had the same workout twice in several years, and it’s always enjoyable. The club is spacious, very well equipped and everyone is friendly. I hesitate to recommend this way because it might get crowded , but I have to be honest!

I’ve been going to the Derby location for the past 5+ years. The opening crew, Roe and Patty, are amazing. They always bring a positive and energetic attitude to the environment. I don’t use any other amenities or the classes other than an occasional yoga class with Kimmarie. Kimmarie alone deserves a 6 out of 5 stars. Some of the personal trainers and the other front desk associates can be standoffish, rude and not approachable. That’s my only gripe about the club so I try to stay out of their way. Otherwise it would be a 5 out 5 stars.

They refuse to honor Connecticut law that lets you cancel if you move more than 25 miles away. I moved, gave proof, and they still hide behind “club policy” to keep charging me.

I’ve had to quote the law multiple times and file complaints — now I’m warning others so you don’t get trapped.

I was really excited to be able to work out on my vacation, but when I got to the club, I was informed that since I have no intention in moving to CT that I couldn’t work out and they would charge me for a week. There should be a section telling you this information and as you could see, there was no information on the website provided. There was no section for people who are on vacation or telling you that you will get charged for a full week.

Extremely Disappointing Experience
I’ve been a loyal member for years, but this location has taken a noticeable turn for the worse. The front desk staff seem completely disengaged and disconnected from the members they’re supposed to be helping. The manager is equally unapproachable and dismissive—there’s a clear lack of leadership and hospitality. The environment is no longer welcoming or member-focused, and it’s becoming a common topic of conversation among members and even instructors. I truly hope this feedback is taken seriously because many of us are growing frustrated. It’s time to make some real changes.

Derby Edge is hands down one of the best gyms I’ve ever been to. The facility is immaculately clean—you can tell the staff takes real pride in keeping everything spotless and well-maintained, which makes such a difference when you’re working out regularly.

The staff is super friendly and always ready to help, whether it’s showing you how to use equipment or just offering encouragement. I’ve got to give a special shoutout to Ro—she’s an absolute ray of sunshine, especially during those early morning sessions. Her energy is contagious and really helps set a positive tone for the rest of the day.

The fitness edge is not only a super clean and awesome gym to be a part of, but I’m down right now because I hurt my neck and needed surgery. They worked with me so well to be able to pause my account and be able to pick it up when I’m healed ! They also went above and beyond and helped me get a refund for the month that I was trying to get them the doctors note after undergoing the surgery That type of kindness is far and few between I recommend this gym highly and appreciate them for helping ❤️❤️❤️

Why pay for a small, crowded, loud gym and be unable to use the amenities you signed up for?
You can wait 40 min to use the massage chair and leave with nothing, as the person would choose to use it for 20 extra minutes (or more). The massage chair appointment time was listed as 15 min on appointment screen (that’s been down for a month again).

The front desk won’t do anything.

I’ve been bringing up this issue for a year.

Bring your money elsewhere, as the gym locks you in a yearly contract that you can’t just quit when you done with them.

I worked with Emily T as my trainer for 3 months. She was super knowledgeable and made me comfortable with so many machines that I wouldn’t have the confidence to try on my own. I saw results from her workouts and meal plans in just a couple weeks! I learned a lot about fitness, and she motivated me to be able to workout on my own. As a mater of fact all electric sauna heaters can be used with water. Ever been to a hotel and they have a sign up warning you of possible shock hazard? This is just scare tactic! No commercial sauna would be wired in such a way that water on the rocks could provide a shock.

The edge fitness clubs as a whole is a borderline fraudulent and predatory business that utilizes some of the most disgraceful and unethical business practices imaginable. They make it next to impossible to cancel through there means, you essentially have to contact your bank or credit card to place either a merchant block or claim fraud on the charges. They do not let you cancel your membership at all and basically lock you in even when the contract expires and goes month to month contacting someone to cancel the membership is as close to an impossible task as you will ever find. I would highly advise steering clear of this place because once your in there is almost no way of getting out without involving lawyers and claiming some kind of fraud. I hope this warning helps those avoid the same mistake I made when I signed up for edge fitness clubs.

I’ve been a member in Hamden for more than a year, and it was good. Because of work I often go to Derby now. They rarely have any machine out of service. In Hamden it can take weeks for repairs. Both gyms are very clean, have good classes, and people are friendly but not intrusive. The cardio cinema rooms are a big plus.

I’ve been attending Edge Derby for many years due to the Group X offerings and especially to attend Rachel’s classes. When I used to have more flexibility in my schedule, I would drive nearly 30 miles out of my way just to take her classes at other Edge locations. Rachel is the best at being beginner-friendly but also challenging the people who have more experience with the class.

I would like to see more Body Combat options and perhaps a Pump/Core class added. Before covid, they offered Body Balance, Body Pump and Body Combat on Saturdays. It would be so great if this could be reinstated. The only thing that is an issue is the temperature and humidity level in the Group X room. It’s always too warm but it’s downright inhumane in the summer months. Overall, this facility is a clean, safe, encouraging environment for customers of all fitness levels.

Rachel's bodybalance and bodypump classes are amazing! Love the calming energy in bodybalance and the relaxation at the end is incredible!
