Gym is nice. Staff not all that friendly. Many TVs but when you want to put at least one TV on a big sporting event, they refuse with aggression. UNBELIEVABLE!

A great gym with everything one needs at a reasonable price point. I do not understand the poor reviews here; the gym is clean, has well-functioning machines, and the restrooms are clean, too. Moreover, the staff are friendly and always willing to help. I am a recent (basic) member, and am enjoying my workouts here very much. I highly recommend this gym.

The new facility is open. All new equipment, quite nice. I don't do classes, so cannot comment there. Not high end, but clean and functional.

Why only 3 stars? First, the "body wash/shampoo" in the showers is indefensibly wretched. It is somehow simultaneously harsh on my skin and ineffective at actually washing anything. It's worse than gas station soap. What a bizarre place to cut corners. Second, the sauna is so hot and so dry that it burns the inside of my nose when I breathe. I'm not typically squeamish about these things; it's a truly aggressive sauna. There's a hot tub in the pool area (an okay alternative) but unfortunately no steam room. Third, I'd definitely prefer a gym that was open an hour later during the week. 10pm is too early for someone (a/k/a yours truly) to get a full workout after putting the kiddos to bed.

I was pushed to join Onelife upon my tour 3 months ago because of their new Tenleytown location that was opening in "2 weeks". Three months later, and still no opening date, however I'm still paying an increased membership fee to access a location that is not even open.

The Onelife Fitness Northwest General Manager, Brittany Wike, has been a tremendous help while I navigate my membership and maternity leave. Very grateful for her consistent communication, professional manner, and genuine support during this time in my life. Thank you, Brittany. Online Fitness is lucky to have you!

I have been a member since June 2023. At that time, I was promised the new OneLife Fitness would open in January 2024. This was obviously never going to be true. Every passing month since June 2023, members of Onelife Fitness have been lied to the manager of Onelife Fitness Tenleytown: Brittany Wike. Every time we ask about the new gym, we’re given non-committal responses saying, “about two weeks.” Every day, the gym falls further into disrepair. Equipment has gone missing and has broken, but there seems to be no intention on fixing or replacing them. I have reached out to OneLife Corporate customer service but they have been equally hard to get a straight answer from. Do yourself a favor and pay for a nicer gym. It’ll be well worth it.

They tricked my husband back in April that they are moving into their new facility by the end of May. It is August and they are still in their old dingy facility. They charged us premium with "parking" and towel services yet there is not any tower around. Do yourself a service and take your business elsewhere! Do not fall for this scam !

I've been a member since last Fall and the gym is so-so. They promised when I signed up that a new facility was coming in February and they still haven't moved. Now machines have been broken for more than a month.
By far the worst part of this gym is the fact that many people don't put their weights back or wipe down the machines. Let's see if people improve at the new place, but I am not holding out hope.
Front desk people are friendly, but you never see them patrolling the gym.

Refuse to fix leg extension machine which I need for rehab. I have asked many time about when it will be fixed but it has been over a month and I have just been told lies. Very upset by the unprofessional + lack of action. EDIT: It has basically been the whole summer since the middle of May and the leg extension machine is still broken. No effort to fix equipment. They only care about the new gym opening near the wegmans.

potentially worst gym in dc. Not sure why OneLife would even claim this place as their own. Always Dirty both in the lifting area and bathroom area. Always Broken/Missing Equipment. Using new gym opening soon as a crutch for the past 8 months. Was supposed to open in April it is now end of July. Only enforce rules when they feel like it. Rude desk employees. Brittany is great but the gym is terrible and is clearly seen they do not care about their paying customers experience.

Staff and manager were very rude. Wanted to know when they will be in new facility to trial it and hopefully join, but all they would say is hopefully next Friday (they said that a month ago too) and this time offered the comment “I am not doing the construction so I dont know.”

This gym is disgusting!! Yes, it is old and outdated, but the worst part is that it is filthy and it stinks.

I joined for the new gym at the end of March because they said that the new facility would be opening in early April. It’s July and the new gym is still not open. They now said mid-July, so we will see.

What a waste of money over the last few months! I rarely go to the current location because it’s so disgusting. I only go for a few classes. I almost gag every time I go into the ladies’ restroom because the smell is so bad. It smells like the stinkiest V ever times 10. The weight room smells like a stinky, sweaty teenager boy…probably because there are a lot of them there after school. There are balls of hair and dust everywhere. And the AC doesn’t seem to work well either.

Hopefully, they will hire a better cleaning service for the new gym and actually keep it up.

Signed up because they said a new facility would be opening in January. I have been asking for months when the new facility will open and always get a noncommittal “4-5 weeks” or “1-2 months” which come and go without any discernible progress. I’ve been very patient after waiting for 6 months longer than the open date I was told, but I now feel the need to voice my concerns, especially given they seem to not care about giving an accurate opening date as an ongoing problem.

I have not been to the gym in 15 months and, despite requesting cancellation in November, was still being charged this month.

Upon explaining the situation I was told that I wasn’t given the proper information about canceling by the front deck so they wouldn’t honor the request. I was hung up on by the assistant manager, then given a number that isn’t for external use with member services, who referred me back to the manager here. Rather than adjust the account according to my request in November, I was told that the customer pays the expense for the bad information given by the front desk. Awaiting regional manager to call.

Disappointed in this place. Joined a couple weeks back. It's not clean. the showers (mens) have mold in cracks, hair on walls. Seems poorly run. Some nice folks at desk though.

The workout area floors are also dirty and clearly not cleaned in any real way.

Bathrooms are disgusting. Remind me of bus station. Urine all over the floor at 2 pm. Seems they clean once a day maybe. Not hard to clean the place a couple times during day.

Gym equipment is dated as well and worn down. A new gym is being built but concerns me that this is how this one is run. Only 2 flat benches for a gym this size.

The towels are mediocre and you have to get out of machine and lug around your dirty towels and put in one bin upstairs as opposed to helping the user (members) out and putting a towel drop downstairs.

The main reason I joined is the sauna which is ok, but frankly i have never been to a sauna in my life that did not 1) have a temperature gauge so you can see temp 2) have a sand timer. So easy to put these things in. Seems like nobody is paying attention to details.

I hope they can make it better and that's partly why I'm writing because seems like the best place to advocate for them to improve.

The price is reasonable but just needs work.

OneLife Fitness Northwest has been the perfect fitness facility during my two month stay in DC. This location's General Manager, Brittany Wike, along with her very friendly staff (special shout out to Christian who helped me when I first arrived in town), made my temporary membership an easy process. Whenever I needed Brittany's assistance, she was at the ready to help and was always so very positive at every turn. She never argued with me, nor she did she say anything negative about how corporate handles membership issues. She was very professional, always helpful, and super welcoming. When my husband joined me this past week, she gave him a temporary gym pass so that he could work out with me at the current facility.

We will definitely be back in DC for personal reasons, but we may be visiting again for business. Because Brittany has been so amazing, we will certainly return to OneLife Fitness. By that time, I believe they will be at their new location at Upton Place on Wisconsin Avenue. I look forward to seeing Brittany and her wonderful staff there. The customer service delivered at OneLife, from the folks at the front desk who always have a welcoming smile and greeting, to the cleaning staff who are so courteous to the members, and everyone in between - the trainers, the Zumba Instructors, etc. - was EXCELLENT! Ten outta Ten!

Thank you Brittany!

They could do better but I hear that they are switching locations soon which is likely a reason that they haven't invested much into their current location. I'm hoping that they invest into their showers and locker room experience when the new location is ready to go. I think part of the current problem they are having is managing the old building and the obstacles that come along with it. The workers and people at the gym are friendly. My review would be higher if the air conditioning was consistent, the shower temperatures were consistent, the sauna was hotter without needing to cover the temp sensor, the float massage thing they have wasn't by the entrance, and there's not another cockroach in the showers. I've only seen one one time, but I used to live with them so I have a strong phobia of them just appearing, even if it is just 1% of the time. As you can see, a lot of these are "old building" things. Some advanced gym equipment such as palm coolers would easily help make the gym top notch once they switch locations. And more space and proper privacy with the showers. I like socializing but I also like full proper uncompromised privacy while I shower and having a wide bench to put my clothes on so that they don't fall onto the ground and get wet. I know these things might not bother most people, but at the end of a long workout, when I'm showering, I don't want to have to mess around with two sets of opaque shower curtains. I just want a door that fits well and a wider bench. Just my honest take.

An overall great choice for any avid gym goer like me. They have a variety of machines for both aerobic training and weightlifting. Much of the equipment is not as modern as in some other places, but personally, it doesn't bother me in any way. Staff maintain the place clean, and it is an overall friendly community. The membership price is more affordable than other places in the area, which makes the place great value for what you pay. Definitely recommend giving a try if it you live or often drive nearby.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would! Do not sign a contract with these people, the management is terrible. Specifically Roberto Arcos, he is a joke! And so is the member services. I lost my credit card back in June and forgot to add my recurring payments. I received an email at the end of June notifying me of an account change so I called and updated my card info. I was charged an additional $20 fee bc of it without warning, on top of that they “forgot” to enroll me in automatic payments with my new card and didn’t charge me for the month of July so I was then charged again an additional $20 fee. I froze my account for the month of august because I’m out of the country and the manager put in a request the day after I left the US to unfreeze my account without my approval. The gym is dirty, a week after signing up I received an email in which it stated people were collecting “bodily fluids” in the gym lockers. The management is extremely rude. The contract is a joke. I’m highly upset with this establishment and I suggest you find yourself another gym! The only good part about the gym is the classes, that’s it. And on top of that there is very little equipment.

Well, i did this question to the receptionist and she had no idea what i was asking for, ok i tryed to explain in a few words what a sauna is...nothing she stil was staring at me like i had asked how to build a rocket to reach the moon!!!
She was able to says..try to ask to general manager!
Please, she is a young girls and she can't ignore what a sauna is and she can't ignore what amenity thy can offer to the client!!
It is a huge lack of professionality.
That was my exerience...i quit with the second question about the swimming pool, i will find a better place.

I've been trying to cancel my membership in writing for a year and a half and I'm still getting charged $42 every month. It's now added up to over $700. Equipment is plentiful and in decent shape.
But the place is dirty. Same layers of untouched dust, same balls of hair in the corners and on the equipment day in and day out. Showers are below average in cleanliness as well.

Members and staff alike don’t bother wiping equipment after use or re-racking weights.
There are weights all over the place.

Needs a culture change which starts with staff and trickles down to the members.

While I have no complaints about the facilities or staff, please be warned that management employs very predatory billing tactics and will stop at nothing to take your money away from you (make sure to request copies of everything you sign on the spot, they'll say that they'll send you a copy later but never actually do, and definitely read everything carefully before signing as they'll try to rush you through the process and pressure you into making a bad decision, so definitely take your time!). They are not transparent at all with their contracts nor with what you've already paid for and appear to make things purposely confusing for the client as they're solely focused on financial gain with a total disregard for customer satisfaction, service, or basic human decency (capitalism at its finest). If you have the option, my advice would be to go elsewhere, especially since you're paying for it! You want to be leaving the gym feeling good about yourself and not like you've been ripped off and scammed, which unfortunately is the case at this establishment.

FITNESS AND FELLOWSHIP IN UPPER NORTHWEST DC

If you work out, every once in a while you find that memorable gym – the place where not only your fitness soared, but so did your spirits when you walked in the door. Northwest Sport&Health (NWSH) is that kind of gym.

It’s a given that any quality gym will have the equipment and amenities you need to get and stay in shape. NWSH certainly has all that: two floors, with cardio equipment, a bike spin room, and studios for all kinds of classes up top (and a full and varied weekly fitness schedule); and two thoroughly-equipped weight rooms downstairs – all the machines you’ll need plus plenty of free weights, including two Smith racks.

But the essential, even ineffable factor always is the fitness staff. And on this count, NWSH is terrific. Led by General Manager Moses Robinson and Fitness Director Alex Switzky, these folks are professional, knowledgeable, attentive, supportive, engaging, courteous – and not only fun, but funny. (Make sure to ask Moses about The Smolder.)

Most important to me personally was that NWSH served as a haven for me through most of the COVID-19 pandemic. Working out at NWSH (yes, with a mask), and hanging with the team and the people I got to know at the gym, came to be the anchor of my day. It was what I most looked forward to, each day, in a bizarre time – a time that otherwise would have lacked air and connection, and that would have meant isolation for this active person.

I always will remember and be grateful to NWSH for that critical time and for their collective generosity of spirit.

In my experience with this place it's extremely easy to sign up but seemingly impossible to cancel. It's expensive and if you want to become a member of the locations that have pools the already expensive fee is even higher! This place taught me one thing! Decent commercial gym.

3 squat racks, 1 deadlift platform, 2 flat benches, 1 include bench, dumbbells up to 100lbs, and multiple adjustable benches. There are also BUMPER PLATES, however, there are only 2 pairs of 45lb rubber plates.

There’s a good selection of hammer strength plate loaded machines and other cable assisted machines. Also has an 8 station cable machine.

If you go around 6pm-8pm, you might have a hard time finding a machine/squat rack/bench/etc...

Should have a hard time finding a cardio machine... there’s plenty of those...

When I joined I felt like I was joining a community. Leaving, I feel I have been used by a predatory business.

This review is about my experience canceling membership at this gym. I had no issues with the gym - always found it clean and functional - I just needed to cancel my membership because I am moving out of the neighborhood. When I communicated about this with the manager I was shocked to learn that the gym (essentially) needed a two month cancellation notice. When I followed up by speaking with the manager (Alex Switzky), I found him to be condescending and even insulting. The response the gym gave to my review (below) is no different. The membership process was NOT transparent. I had know idea that I was making this type of financial commitment when I joined. I find it insulting to be treated as though I do not remember my own experience joining. I do.

The day I joined NW Sport & Health, I went in simply to tour the facility. I walked out with a membership. I thought I had a made a good decision to care for my health, and some ways I had. But I would have never agreed to a year long membership on the spot. I have never considered my home in Tenleytown to be permanent. I would have never made a one year commitment to a gym. The salesperson I spoke with had an easy demeanor. I trusted him, and now I see that I was mislead.

If you doubt my memory over the gym staff assertion, consider this: Gym membership contracts are so problematic, there are multiple articles online about how to get oneself out of such a contract. This quote, in particular, helped me not succumb to the gaslighting of the Northwest Sport & Health staff.

From Money Under 30, “Quit Your Gym Membership”:

“Most gym contracts contain deviously clever language that make sure to squeeze every last possible drop of unwarranted money out of you. The system is arranged to have you always paying a month ahead, unable to get a refund for your most recent unused month of service.

In the best case scenario, you’ll still have to pay for 30 more days once you do everything you need to quit. A retention specialist may convince you to keep your membership for a while since you’ll be paying for it anyway, but don’t fall for the trap.”

So there it is. While I was understandably shocked, because Northwest Sport & Health IS taking “unwarranted money” from me, Alex (and now Tina C. as well) have completely dismissed my concerns.

If you choose to use this gym, make sure to read the entire contract before you sign it. Per my experience, you cannot trust the salesperson to explain it for you - all they want to do is get you to join. Once you’re in, do not expect management to work with you or even respect you. You will need to conform to what you signed, whether you understood it or not at the time.

When I moved to the area, I joined this gym without much second thought. It is located one block from the metro, is competitively priced ($43 a month after tax) and has great amenities, staff, and classes.

Alex, the general manager, is always friendly and helpful. As for the amenities, there is a variety of equipment and enough designated spaces for bodyweight exercises. Locker rooms are clean and spacious. I attend Sarah's Bang Power Dance class 1-2 times a week. It's not as corny as zumba (sorry, zumba fans!) and is pretty intense even for my 23-year-old, former-competitive-gymnast self. I've also tried two other classes, barre and P90x, which were challenging and well-taught too.

All in all, I have no complaints. Thanks for keeping me healthy and happy, NW Sport & Health! And thank you again for the bike (I won their raffle!).

I really enjoy this club. It is small, but well equipped. I never have a problem finding a machine (cardio or weight) to use. While I have never taken a class there, the ones that I do see while working out are well attended. The TNT Training program is very good.

There are some good instructors for Body Pump and Gary is awesome. The classes have zero circulation and none of the rooms have fans even for the spinning. I wish they would change up the class schedule, it has been pretty much the same for the last two years. Nice facilities and well maintained.

I Joined NW to help recovery from a debilitating sciatica which had weakened and debilitated me.

I have been working with Personal Trainer Amir Mosaddeghisar, with impressive results in strength, flexibility, balance and muscle tone. Amir has taken the time to understand my particular needs and limitations, and has created routines which address my particular requirements. Amir has instilled confidence and pushed me to do what he knows I need to do and can do, even when my instincts are that I cannot. It's been an enjoyable and highly rewarding experience.

I recommend Amir and the NW facility which has a highly professional team of managers and trainers.

I love, love, love Northwest Sport & Health. The members are wonderful -- as an instructor, it is one of my favorite clubs to teach at -- and I see a lot of clubs! The group exercise classes are fun and there is something for everyone. It's also a wonderful, clean facility with an outstanding staff, who are always friendly and helpful. I really can't say enough good things about this club.

I joined when I moved to the area in January 2017 and immediately started training with Amir Mosaddeghifar. Amir listened to my goals and was able to quickly develop a plan for me to reach them. Not only did I reach my goal, but I did it in less than three months and then was able to quickly set a new, more advanced goal, thanks to Amir's help. Amir's positive energy coupled with stern motivation is what got me to where I am today. I could not be more happy about working with Amir for these last three months. I'm glad the membership coordinator, Lee, set me up with him. 5 stars all around!

I've been going here for years and love this place. It's super clean, staff are friendly, and hours are great. I particularly love the variety of classes they offer. You have a ton of options (AM & PM) and the instructors are just really kind, encouraging, fun people. Any time I've had a question or concern, they've been super receptive and helpful.

This company routinely plasters my neighborhood with its signs, placing them on public land, which is illegal and an F-U to their neighbors.

I've approached them nicely about this practice, through friendly phone calls and emails and then somewhat more forceful communications where I've cited the DC legal code in emails that states that signs for for-profit companies are illegal on public land.

Anyway, this is a stupid issue. I shouldn't need to ask them pretty please to stop doing illegal and assholish activities, but they do, and have for years, so here's my one star.

NW Sport & Health is a great gym with excellent staff, especially personal trainer Amir. His expertise, professionalism and dedication to his clients are outstanding. Training with Amir has exceeded all my expectations, and I would highly recommend. Having reached my 3 month goal of losing 30lb, I will continue training with him, taking my fitness and health goals to a higher level.

I also love the range of classes offered at the gym, with fantastic instructors. Gary's Club Strength and Jen's Hard Drive and Tough Mudder classes are fun and exhilirating! Three months ago I never would have imagined I could do anything like what I am able to do now. A huge thank you to Amir and Northwest Sport & Health for helping me change my world and wellbeing!

Joined the NW Sport & Health a few weeks ago. Great gym for the price - modern, clean, great mix of classes and so much nicer than the bigger one at Tenleytown. One of our highlights has been the Monday/Friday morning spin classes with Robert - he is brilliant. He brings structure, great music and one of the best spin classes we have done in DC (and we've tried quite a few). Hope he's a regular spin instructor.

I love working out here. This establish is always immaculate. They have up to date machinery and a staff that loves their job and the people who visit. In particular they have a front seat attendant by the name of Bisola. Her love for life, and positive feedback on my progress really gives me the boost I need to continue my journey for the body I want.

I joined this gym a couple of months ago and I love this place! I had no idea I could take my kids to the gym with me, for less than what a nanny would cost and get a good work out/break without breaking the bank. They have a great space for kids, flexible hours and classes. I highly reccomend to any mom/family that is looking for a gym that can fit on their busy life schedule. The gym is small but it has great ammenities, clean bathrooms and my kids have a great time playing in there. I signed up after taking a tour with Yaz (membership manager) she was very helpful and able to find me a great deal.

I have been a member of Northwest Sport and Health for 10+ years. I like this gym for exercise because it is laid back, but has excellent equipment and a diverse membership. I have worked with several Personal Trainers at this gym. All were good, but John Vallimarescu is one of the best Personal Trainers I have ever had. He is very careful to address the unique needs of each client. He pushes you but does not exert excessive pressure -- perfect balance. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an outstanding Personal Trainer at NW S&H.

I've been training with John at Tenley Sport & Health for over a year now, and I am living proof of the excellence of his training. Thanks to John, I have met my goal weight and can honestly say that I've never felt better, healthier, stronger, or more fit!
John is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of training, kinesiology, nutrition and diet. He is very patient, and even when I haven't done well, he will always find some aspect of my performance to compliment. He is always encouraging and eagerly shares his knowledge according to your needs and inquiries.
I'm very grateful to John for all that he has taught me about fitness and diet, andespecially for his kindness, generosity of spirit, and patience with older and non-athletic types like me!

I have been a member of Sport&Health since Northwest opened! This gym offers a wide array of exercise programs - yoga, classes, machines, free weights, personal training. Something for each of us at any age. Most recently I have done some post PT training with John Villamarescu. As we know it can be daunting to come back from injury or illness, but he has been knowledgable, supportive, flexible, and always encouraging, engaged and effective. He somehow makes the work enjoyable! Five stars!

What is best than being part of a great club?
To notice that management, fellow staff members and most importantly the members are top notch and make this a great club to go, work out, and just feel better afterwards from an all around best experience. Great facilities, always clean, very accesible and sense of community and family like no other!

I've been a member since 1999, and I am very happy at NW S&H. The staff this year is the best it's ever been. I am always greeted with a friendly welcome and a smile, and wishes for a good workout. The management staff is great, and doing a great job. I use the free weights section, and I take classes -- mostly dance, zumba, barre, bang, and yoga. Robin Goelman is doing a great job as group fitness director, and she is an amazing teacher, dancer and presence at the club. I like all the teachers including Ashley, Sarah, Jean Barthe, Alston, and Jen Young. Thank you Brooke for greeting me every day I come in. Thank you to the lovely cleaning staff, you do amazing work. I have the option to join a cheaper club closer to my house. The one request I have is to find a way to get people to re-rack their weights when they are done lifting. Just common courtesy. Posting signs doesn't seem to do the trick.
