My favorite workout studio Iβve been to! I was looking for a studio that made me feel at home: remembered my name, had friendly instructors, and gave me a consistent, challenging workout. The staff at PBDC has made constant efforts to get to know me as a person and the instructors are absolute experts at knowing your personal capabilities. Itβs truly a welcoming third space!

The classes I've been to here are all 45 or 50 minutes long and on the easy side. Pure Barre is also very strict about no late entries even though someone mans the desk, the door to the studio is in the back and people could easily enter without disturbing anyone, and it's never been full when I've gone. I go occasionally because it's two blocks from my house and I pay about $40 for a monthly 4-pack through Active & Fit (through Blue Cross/Blue Shield), but it's really not that good if you're reasonably fit and looking for a challenging workout. And my opinion isn't about barre classes generally--I love Xtend Barre in Arlington, which has significantly more challenging classes including an amazing 75-minute Barre Camp, but can't get there as often as I'd like due to its location.

My friend and I booked our first class which was free and we were very excited about it. we arrived there at around 12:10 our appointment was at 12:30. We are at Eastern market so it was a little hard to find a parking and once we arrived the door was locked and we called multiple times nobody answered the phone or door. we ended up just wasting our time coming, so we will not be booking again very disappointing.

Super fun location! Very welcoming, not tons of merch/but cute stuff over just rows of nonsense, and clean studio setting! Megan and Emily, and the other not teaching but taking teacher are such gems. Thanks again for having me. β€οΈπͺπ»π©°

Worst ever. Lack of flexibility for busy professionals. Very quick to lure you in, but then forget it. Right after I joined I signed up for a class and was turned away because it was a "special class for non members", even though it was going to be my first class as a member and mentioned I wouldn't mind and that because of my busy schedule I need to squeeze a class that day. Next time I went back, the door was basically shut on my face, they refuse to open the door if you are a few seconds late. Perhaps if you live to make to Pure Bare your priority in life, but for those who need flexibility, better off signing up on a luxury gym membership who may also offer similar classes and are more willing to accomodate a busy lifestyle. I haven't bothered going back since, and I am stuck having to pay another month since my cancellation.

I am a huge fan of Pure Barre and have been for over four years. It is such an effective workout, the instructors are relentless (and so good!), and the classes are so empowering. If I can get through a Pure Barre class, I feel like I can do anything. The first few classes are rough and I remember dragging myself there to get a good workout, but once I got the hang of the pacing and sequencing, PBDC became a place I really enjoy and look forward to going. Give it at least a week - you'll be sore in all the right places and soon you'll be hooked. :) I cannot recommend Pure Barre enough.
*COVID Update* The PBDC instructors are still killing it every day - teaching through Facebook Live and Zoom every day, offering a variety of classes and still finding ways to safely instruct and provide effective workouts. I'm amazed every day by them and am so happy to continue my membership and take classes with the best PB team of all time.

They offer a variety of classes for different types of barre intensities. The toughest is barre reform, which is harder than typical high-end reformer studio class, and one of the hardest in the district. Totally worth it!

Iβve been to 5 classes at this location. The instructors, manager and staff are all amazing. Very welcoming to new people like myself.
The instructors go out of their way to help you if you need modifications or donβt understand something and are always willing to chat after class.
One negative is that the clothing they sell only goes up to a size large which is sad for plus sized ladies who may want a Pure Barre shirt.

PB Capitol Hill is a warm and inviting studio. The teachers are lovely and take time to introduce themselves to new clients and be sure that they feel comfortable before the first class - this is what drew me in originally! It is a HARD workout and you can really measure your progress. The workouts change all the time and the offerings of reform, empower AND classic allow for cross training, which is awesome. It's a great community, too, and I love seeing regulars around the studio. Five stars.

I have now taken five classes at this location. I am new to barre classes and Pure Barre has been a great introduction to the exercise. The space is clean. The staff are welcoming. The classes are challenging and the teachers are motivating, taking the time to adjust your form. The class timing is just the right length too. Also, the location is convenient to the Circulator and Eastern Market Metro station.

I got a 20-pack Groupon to go to PureBarre in Capitol Hill and just finished using it. I loved it! The studio is very well-located right in Eastern Market. The class (any type: classic, empower, or reform) is really hard at first, but the more you do it, the easier it gets as you build up your strength. I was scared after my first class when my abdominal muscles were in so much pain and my feet slid around everywhere. It did get better! Very important to have grippy socks because PureBarre has a rug in its studio, not a hardwood floor, and you are required to wear socks. You can buy these socks at the studio if youβre in a pinch or on Amazon (for a lot cheaper). All of the instructors are very knowledgeable and help and encourage you throughout class. I have to say that out of all of the instructors, Elyssa and Amanda are probably my favoritesβthere is zero slacking off in those classes (this is a good thing)! The atmosphere is non-judgmental with everyone working on themselves, so you have no need to feel self-conscious here! That said, I definitely stayed toward the back and away from the front mirrors for my first 15 classesβ¦ I highly recommend!

Every workout at Pure Barre is challenging and targets very specific muscles throughout your body! No matter how many times you have taken a class or how regularly you go, there is always a way to continue to challenge yourself and to see results. The instructors and front desk staff are friendly and able to answer any questions about classes, prices, or modifications. The studio is clean and well-kept and street parking in Eastern Market is easy or you can use the metro!

My neighbor and I have been to two weekday afternoon classes thus far and are enjoying them. It has a great atmosphere. The only thing I recommend is when checking in, if it is your first time make sure and tell the instructor and not just the front desk. My friend was very confused her first class and the instructor mentioned the desk is supposed to let them know but they did not. We are looking forward to going back now that we have the hang of it!

Classes are decent. You never do any one move for too long so classes feel like they go quickly which is nice. Instructors are friendly. I would say Pure Barre is somewhere in between Bar Method (I found boring and repetitive) and Barre3 (more difficult and nicer, more modern studios). Soon Pure Barre will have three class types to choose from which is nice for regulars. They also do workshops occasionally which is a great option.

When I first started out - definitely pretty worried I wouldn't be able to do the class but the instructors are fantastic [I've had 4 different ones so far] and there are some similarities between each class but they are all different enough that you won't be doing the same workout each time. The stretching between more intensive sections is very helpful/lets you cool off a bit between. I would definitely recommend to folks who want something different where you will feel the burn and tone muscles.

Pure Barre is so great! The girls that work here are always welcoming and encouraging each time I step into class. Although pure barre is HARD, I try my best each time and the instructors are there to help correct me. Only give 4 stars because it is a fast pace and often difficult to keep up without clear instructions at first. But, I am a Pure Barre beginner, so hopefully this will get better. Excited to keep going and build my strength!

I've recently started going back to barre after several months off and I have to say, Pure Barre has kicked my behind in the best possible way. The class is fantastic; fast paced, intensive, and provides an all-over-body work out. All of which I desperately need to get back into shape. The studio in Capitol Hill is a bit smaller than I'm used to and can be a bit of squeeze around the start and end of class but otherwise it's great. It's very conveniently located (I live in the neighborhood) for those using the metro--Eastern Market metro is just around the corner. The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable and very, very patient. I would recommend Pure Barre!

I've tried a lot of barre-type classes around the DC area, and this place is my favorite. The instructors have all been fantastic (energetic without being too peppy, consistent without being robotically the same as one another) and I find the Pure Barre class structure and language ("only 2 changes left") to be the right mix of challenging and doable. I tried out the studio as part of my class pass membership, and I loved it! After a handful of classes, I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of things. The workouts are challenging, yet fun, and the instructors will guide and correct you to make sure you're getting the most out of the class.
I do have two pieces of constructive criticism:
- sticky socks shouldn't be required if the studio floor is carpeted! I've taken barre at other studios and the slick hardwood makes it necessary to wear socks, but socks on carpet is more difficult in my opinion...
- it would be so nice if the studio had a shower

This a great, efficient workout that passes by quickly. Instructors are friendly and make an effort to learn your name, which helps motivate you throughout the class. Especially in the smaller classes, instructors are also great about offering hands-on correction. And the music is always on point.
Re four stars vs. five stars: I do wish they had a bigger changing space and/or shower area - would be especially helpful before the early morning classes before work. And of course, this is definitely a pricey workout - so be prepared for a bit of sticker shock.

Classes are intense but adaptable to what you can do any given day, and the instructors are upbeat without being excessively peppy. Definitely try it out if you are curious about barre.

Seriously intense, but seriously effective. Such an efficient workout. You're in and out and endorphin fueled. I've been a handful of classes and have been the only guy for only one of them. Would recommend to anyone.

Kind staff, clean and modern studio, fantastic classes. I also love their studio shop - cute socks, leggings, tanks, etc. I always walk out sweaty and empowered.

I am glad I finally tried Pure Barre! I started my free trial week with a foundations class, and it was great to have that as an introduction before moving on to the classic and empower classes. Each class is different and very effective. The instructors are great and everyone has been very welcoming. :)

Kicks my butt every time, but I love coming to these classes. Wear sticky socks and do your best--it takes a few classes to get the techniques down.

Very good start to gentle weight lifting. The downside is that you can't take more than 1 class per day.
1) They don't spend enough time stretching, so yes, you are absolutely more prone to injury if you take more than 1 class per day-- your muscles will tighten up (like mine did, and I stretch & roll & massage every day).
2) The teachers do not explain the technique to most excercises, like sit ups, so if you don't already know how work out properly, I'm not sure if they will teach you. It was also clear they didn't really know technique when I spoke with them, just enough to skim the surface and get by.
3) The music is terrible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have remix of popular songs which ruins most of the good music out there.
4) They optimize the little space, but with no dressing rooms, no lockers, I really didn't like putting my belongings inside the studio cubbies.
5) After 3-4 lessons, my elbows were starting to suffer from rug burn. I honestly don't understand the socks & carpet thing.
6) There are literally no guys- neither on staff nor in the classes.
7) I hate the cover your middrift and legs dresscode. I love my shorts and sports bras. Seeing my abs in the mirror is also a huge motivation on those hard days, so that was a minus.
8) No classes on saturday evenings, which means I had to miss every Saturday.
9) They do let you try all their specials- like the 1 month intro + the 2 week intro. And a good bridal special as well.
Overall, a nice experience.

Great workout! Small, cozy space and awesome personal attention/corrections by instructors. Will be on my rotating barre list!

The studio is upstairs in case you are wondering if you're in the right place. This is a hard workout and would probably be easier if you are at least somewhat flexible (I am not). You do the workout wearing socks on carpeted floor, so I would recommend wearing sticky socks. The class goes by quickly, but you will be shaking within minutes.

It's so hard!!! But so much fun. Grab a few friends and get ready to work it 'til you shake. All the moves are pretty easy, and modifiable. Plus, the music and instructor were great motivators.
