I asked repeatedly for these people to stop contacting me. I no longer live in the DMV and am not interested. But they refuse to remove me from their SMS and phone list.

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME is all I can say about Sparks Fitness and their wonderful program that they have to offer. Myself, I can't say enough on how great Sparks has worked for me. I made a conscious decision to join Sparks Fitness in April 2025, best decision I could have ever made and glad I did. It is now September 2025 and I have lost 62 lbs by simply following the meal plan that was designed for me. Alex, Founder of Sparks Fitness, is very educated and knowledgeable about the human body and how to make it function properly. The Sparks program will also teach you how to detox the body against all the damages that have incurred over the years. From there I was hooked.

I am a 65 yrs old woman that has been dealing with lots of health issues because of the abuse that I have incurred in my body. One being high blood pressure and high cholesterol (which usually come together) and was put on medicine for both. Since April 2025, I took myself off the meds and decided to trust in the program and eat correctly. On August 28, 2025, i took my pressure and it was 117/78, and God, it felt INCREDIBLE to finally have a normal reading.

Another illness I have been dealing with was "gout", which is a form of arthritis which affects the big toe, ankle and/or heal. However, after informing Alex of the situation, he worked with me and now I'm on the road to recovery. The swelling has gone down, no pain and I'm able to walk around without any help of any kind. So with all that said I encourage anyone who wants to change their life/body for the better to think of SPARKS FITNESS first. This Organazation has been a Godsend to me and I'm sure it will be for you too. So if you decide to join, you will not regret your decision.

Since I began my health journey with Spark Fitness on April 29, 2025 I have enjoyed one success after another, all with tangible results. The day of orientation at Spark Fitness studio located at 409 Butternut St. in Washington DC, I was a very ill 73 yr old Black woman suffering from 40+ years of Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disease which was the root cause of the Bursitis and Peripheral Neuropathy for which I also suffered. Not only was I barely mobile, I dealt with chronic pain and acute inflammation 24/7. In addition, I was taking medication; 1800 mgs. of Gabapentin and 1500 mgs of ES Tylenol daily. To top it off, my doctor recently informed me that my body was in functional decline which is what actually lead me to Spark Fitness.

Spark Fitness devised a regimented diet and detox program designed to improve my health holistically. I have seen major improvement in my cognitive function, all of my senses have heightened, my skin feels and looks younger, no more sleep deprivation, etc. And so far I have lost 56 pds, I have NO pain and have taken NO medication in 3 months. The added bonus is the weekly nutrition classes that provide invaluable information about the healthy vs unhealthy foods we consume, the water we drink and how the body responds to it all.

Throughout this process I’ve learned that this program demands a serious commitment and consistent effort, and is not a quick fix. The positive results I am having make it worth my investment.

I love Spark fitness. The 1st time I attended Spark fitness I was 25lbs overweight and I lost the weight with ease. That was in 2015. They help me eat better and I kept the weight off for over 7 years. Then covid happened, sitting at home doing nothing just back and forth to work, gain 30lbs,went back to Spark fitness into my 2 weeks I've lose 11lbs, then I got into a very bad car accident and my pelvic was fractured in 4 different places, stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks, called Spark fitness, they told me as soon as I get out the hospital to come in, I did ,left the hospital in a wheelchair chair, doctors said it will take me 6 months to start walking normally again, not with Spark fitness, the accident happened May 10,2025 ,I'm walking normal now it's August. My birthday was August 31st and I went dancing and to a comedy club. THANK YOU SPARK FITNESS. And here is the kicker. I'm not 25 or 32 not even in my 40's. I'm 57 years old and the doctor said it will take me longer to heal because of my age 😂😂😂. TRY SPARK FITNESS IF U NEED A SPIRITUAL AND BODY HEALING. I BELIEVE GOD IS EVERYWHERE HE'S HERE TOO.

I almost signed up for a challenge and some free classes here more than FIVE YEARS ago and they still contact me to this day despite my repeated requests over phone calls and texts for them to stop, including explaining that I live more than 300 miles away now (it has gotten less frequent, to be fair).

I received an insane text today about a workshop on AUTOIMMUNE diseases that I am CERTAIN they are unqualified to be educating people on, weaponizing people's body & fat issues to suggest they may have a chronic illness. I am sure the workshop ends with them suggesting you come to their programs. That is extremely predatory. I was so taken aback that I responded to the text, then looked them up on google, and was not surprised to find pissed off clients talking about their unprofessionalism, BBB complaints, etc. in their reviews.

I was so alarmed that I felt it was appropriate to share this and warn people. No one except a doctor and immunologist can diagnose you with an autoimmune disease, and personal fitness trainers have absolutely no business trying to convince you otherwise. Do with that info what you will.

This place helped me learn to eat better. I haven't been there in maybe 5 years but the short bootcamp helped me drop some unnecessary weight and keep it off. I still refer to their handouts occasionally.

There were times that I wished they invested more in the gym. For example, for multiple weeks during the bootcamp the scale wasn't working correctly and you had to adjust a few pounds. I complained that the scale not working during a bootcamp was unacceptable and they did fix it. They should just be more proactive about stuff like that.

I successfully completed the weight loss challenge and was never given my money back even though Sam repeatedly told me I would. This company lacks integrity and something is wrong with Sam. The trainers were encouraging and that is the only good thing I can say. Do not waste your time or money with this company.

Sam is an absolute liar. I would NOT recommend dealing with her. The rest of the team was pleasant, kind and respectful. Sam, however was deceitful, manipulative and condescending. I was told I would receive a refund for items I never received and 3 weeks later I have not. I was told to schedule my treatments through the App and was denied access up to 2 weeks of joining the challenge. Something is deeply wrong with her mental state of mind.

The six week weight loss challenge worked for me, I made my goal of 20 plus pounds. I enjoyed talking with Sam and Alex. All the trainers, Matt, Cooper and Bruno were great to me, even despite I hate working with trainers. They adjusted to my weeks/ days working out by giving me challenging exercises. To me this was worth it and I will continue with the Spark at a later date when my semester will permit. THANKS SPARK Fitness and good blessing for those who give them a try.

Update I Received my refund 4 months after completing the program with no apology because I was not signing up for another program they felt it was "no point." Communication for receiving my money back was poor. (I still stand by the training was great)

I challenged myself by taking the “6 Week Challenge Program” to lose weight. I’m glad I did.
Six weeks later I had outstanding results. Double chin, gone; love handles, gone, belly fat, gone.
YES, YES, YES, I met my goal in 6 weeks. I took an additional 4 weeks and met a second goal. Thank you Sparks Fitness for your “6 Week Challenge Program.” I especially enjoyed the 3 days per week training sessions with your super fantastic personal trainers. I will love you for life along with my new eating habits.

GREAT Trainers. TERRIBLE Business.

Business: Super unprofessional. There have been several instances of people being owed money, and Spark not giving them it them, despite acknowledging that they owe them. They currently owe me hundreds of dollars, and I have not gotten it. I have asked for a copy of my signed contract and apparently, it will take weeks for them to get it to me. People leave the gym because of the unprofessionalism. It is very unfortunate.

They have a BBB rating of “F”. Several complaints have been filed against Spark Fitness. Almost all of the are unresolved.

Hours: So the gym is only open limited hours, and they have recently cut their hours, which makes it extremely inconvenient for people's schedules.

Ownership. Recently the owner has been doing the training and having the trainers observe. This was concerning for several of the people who had been at the gym for a while because the owner has expressed unwillingness to tailor workouts to an individual's Unique Needs and Goals.

Trainers: The trainers are great! The trainers at Spark Fitness are the only reason why I stayed so long. Unfortunately, Cooper, one of the three trainers left recently. This is terrible because Cooper was so knowledgeable and was able to tailor workouts to individual needs.

Beware!

I completed Spark's 6-Week Challenge in August 2019-October 2019. I wanted to begin a life-long fitness journey that would educate me about sustainable health. In the past, my health goals did not align with my other goals. I believed I had to choose either healthy living or important relationships. Through Spark Fitness, I learned how to make my health journey a priority without becoming a recluse. I followed the meal plan and the workout schedule and I lost 10.2 pounds. I continued to spend quality time with family and friends, but made smart, healthy food decisions when in group settings and I planned outings around my workout schedule. However, more importantly, I learned invaluable information about balanced nutrition, proper eating habits, and maintaining an active lifestyle surrounded by my loved ones.

Hello Everybody! I won my weight loss challenge of 22.8 lbs. in six weeks with Spark Fitness, woohoo!!! This is my testimonial. Six weeks ago I was lumpy, bumpy and downright frumpy. I needed a challenge. I saw Spark’s challenge on FB (a few times) and finally decided to go for it. First, I was impressed with the enthusiasm and knowledge of Sam, Maggie, Alex and all of the trainers (Matt, Bruno, and OP – my nickname for him for his Optimum Prime-like shoulders). Everyone was extremely supportive and available to answer questions as I went through the six weeks. They provided education on supplements and I found their proprietary products to be very good. Long story, short – if you are already a member of Spark Fitness, keep it up. Listen to them and you will achieve your goals. If you haven’t signed-up for a program yet, do it now! Thanks Spark Fitness!

If you're worried about "will they actually reimburse me?" they definitely do. They're good people.

The challenge for sure is tough, but if you watch your diet and hit the classes, you should be able to drop 20.

And the classes are the best. Even in an 8-person class, it feels like you're getting one-on-one instruction. Bruno and Cooper will seriously kick your butt.

I highly recommend Spark.

Unprofessional would be the best description word to place on this “gym”. The “receptionists” are on their phones the entire time, sometimes they address you, sometimes they don’t. I arrived early for the consultation and was seen 20 minutes late. At the consultation I was told I’d have to pay 199$ for my nutrition class. I figured that was a good deal for a class and 6 weeks of training. My nutrition class was scheduled for two days later. Again I arrived early and ended up waiting over 30 minutes before I left. Only then did the “receptionist” try to get me to stay and talk to Sam or Alex, which made no sense to me. I contacted Sam and told her to refund my 200$ payment. Then another person from the gym texted me, not called, texted me to apologize. I requested my money be returned. Then Sam CALLED me and I again explained I did not want to work with them and wanted my money back and she just asked me “Why” Over and over again. That was last night and today they still haven’t refunded my payment and are not responding to texts or calls.

Please. Do not give these folks your money. They were planning on charging my friend 500$ in three payment increments for the 6 week plan, which is NOT what is advertised on their ads. Also they’re holding people’s money against their will without delivering services that were paid for. Unprofessional and probably thieves. It shouldn’t take you over 24 hours to return money to a customer when the product was NOT RECEIVED.

I did the 6-week challenge. FYI, it’s not *free* as advertised. There's a $399 deposit required, which can be paid all at once or split into 3 installments. If you lose your target weight, you can get your money back as a refund or credit towards continuing with Spark. I did a bit of research before signing up, so I knew this ahead of time, although it was never communicated by staff when I asked how much it cost/ what the “catch” was before coming in.

You don’t get to pick your goal weight - it’s determined for you. Spark determines how much you need to lose solely based on your BMI. If you’re not familiar with current health standards, BMI has some merit, but it’s mostly been rejected as a legitimate indication of health as it doesn’t consider a number of other health factors.

At 5’2” and about 150 lbs at the time of my consultation, my BMI was about 27 or 28. By their standards, I needed to lose 15 lbs in 6 weeks- about 2.5 lbs/week. Most doctors and dietitians recommend a steady weight loss of about 1-2 lbs/ week as anything more can be difficult to sustain and can lead to other health problems. That being said, I was excited to jump-start my fitness journey and liked the idea of having $400 on the line as motivation.

The day after signing up, I was having some reservations about losing the weight so fast. I spoke with Sam and she let me to change my 15lb requirement to 10lbs. I was told I’d be given a corrected agreement to sign, but this never happened.

There’s supposed to be a cap of 8 people per class, but this is often ignored. There were a # of times I showed up at night and there were 10-12 other people. The space is very small (it's an apartment with floor mats) and shouldn’t have more than 8 at a time.

Most of my time was spent with Cooper in the morning. Cooper is a WONDERFUL trainer and will assign you other exercises or adjust your weight as needed. Honestly, I’d happily continue working with him if he moved to another gym.

This is where I began to have issues. I completed the challenge and weighed out (lost about 11 lbs) on 11/10/18. I was told that to receive my refund (the $399 deposit), I needed to do a video testimonial and I’d get it back within 2 weeks after. I filmed my testimonial with Maggie a few days later but after 2 weeks had gone by and I still hadn’t received my refund, I texted Sam to ask if she knew when I’d get it back. She didn't answer (despite having responded to all my texts previously).

I tried calling Sam several times and left voicemails, but never received an answer or call-back. I messaged Sam, Maggie and Alex on facebook to ask but was ignored. I tried posting in the facebook group for members and my post was deleted. I was later removed from the group, despite my posts only saying “please call me.”

On 12/18, a full month after weighing out, I visited in person and Sam told me there was an issue with the bank but I’d most likely receive it by the end of December. She also told me it would be sent in 3 installments over the course of 6 weeks, rather than in full (as I had originally paid in installments). So again, I waited.

Mid-January, I began texting back and forth with Maggie who told me that it would be coming soon and she just needed to check when. Every time I texted her, she promised she'd get back to me but eventually started ignoring me altogether. OVER 2 MONTHS after weighing out, I received the first of 3 installments. However, 2 weeks went by and I never received the 2nd. I again texted Maggie and again, told me she would get back to me but never did.

3 MONTHS after weighing out, I gave up and called my bank who reimbursed my remaining two installments. What I was told would take only 2 weeks, took over 3 months. Who knows how much longer I would’ve had to wait if I didn’t contact my bank. There was a HUGE lack in communication and I am honestly very disappointed with how everything turned out.

In conclusion, the workouts with Cooper were great, but the business as a whole is terrible. Communication is awful and it's not worth the frustration.

Things went wrong before I could even start. I signed up to begin on 1/5/19, however I paid in full, payment scheduled for 1/1/19. I contacted Maggie at least a week before the 1st to let them know I had to leave town and would be gone for approximately a month. They were to cancel membership and $399 debit. Well needless to say, they did none of the above. They debited my account on the 5th, knowing full hell well I was not there and I asked for cancellation. Now, I have to go through my bank and dispute. Based on their actions, I will not return and I have nothing good to say about them. RUN, STEER CLEAR!!!!!
