I’ve been going to Urban Athletic Club for about a month now, and I’m really impressed. The coaches are excellent—friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. From day one, the environment felt welcoming and non-intimidating, which made it easy to jump into workouts even as a newer member.
The other members are just as friendly, creating a great community vibe. The gym is well-equipped, clean, and has convenient hours that fit my schedule.
This is a great place to train. I’d absolutely recommend Urban Athletic Club!

I’ve been going to UAC for a while now and have recommended it to both friends and coworkers. I actually look forward to working out again. A small, knit tight community where group classes feel more like 1on1 personal training sessions. For anyone needing accountability (i.e. ME), join UAC!

I think I found it!! ... So I’ve been around the CrossFit world for sometime, trained at boxes all over the globe and then I got injured then life caught up so I was forced to take a long break.
When I landed in D.C., I was determined to get back into it. I tried a few places, but none of them really captured that CrossFit energy I’d been missing… until I found UAC.
The coaches here are awesome, knowledgeable, motivating, and genuinely friendly. And the community? It’s got that special vibe you can’t fake, u either got it or you don't and reminds why I actually enjoy the grind. Its not intimidating or "too much" for someone who's trying to get back to it...or even if u are just starting fresh....Feels like I’ve finally found the place.

After lots of procrastination and on doc’s advice, finally decided to step up my game and add weight training to my fitness routine. Reached out to Urban Athletic Club a few months ago, and they were incredibly friendly, courteous, and professional from my initial appointment/assessment with Graham to my now 2/week pers training sessions with coach Cyrus. I love the gym space, low key, clean, well equipped, and am very grateful for the thoughtful and smart staff who keep me motivated and focused on my goals. I’m having fun and I’ve found a new community.

I’ve tried many studios/gyms in DC over the years, but Urban Athetic stands out in so many ways. It’s a balance of focusing on health, improving your strength to new records, and creating a sense of community. The coaches are super supportive and experienced on accommodating everyone’s needs. I’m very happy at Urban, and highly recommend.

Dropped in here for a week while at a conference. It was great location, solid equipment, easy to get setup, very reasonable rate, unlimited access. All the staff were helpful and knowledgeable even if I was just doing my open program during open gym. Highly recommend! (Thanks for your hospitality UA.)

If you’re considering joining: don’t think about it—jump in. The trainers are top notch and the community is incredibly welcoming. UAC can be a place to hone in on your own routine, or it can be a place to meet new people sharing common fitness goals. UAC does both very well.
Every trainer is incredibly professional, and the programming is very thoughtful. You can easily thread your own goals and routines with the daily classes.
I’ve always gone to traditional gyms and this was my first experience with this type of gym. I’m hooked, never going back to an old school gym.

Dropped by today since I'm in town for a conference. Price is reasonable and the man I spoke to was friendly/courteous, gym has sufficient equipment (CrossFit oriented, don't expect stuff like cable machines and you'll be fine). Didn't use the showers but they're there! Would recommend, will be going there for the rest of the week so if you don't hear any updates, all is well.

5 Stars for the excellent program, price, and location. I am new to the area and this gym, but I can already tell the difference in training and workout quality from many other crossfit focused gyms. There is an importance placed on form immediately, and a great leveling program to create a strong foundation steady upward progress. The owner, Graham, is steep in health and nutrition information and even speaks about the local history. I recommend this gym for any level crossfitter and if you want to be part of a welcoming community. Join now.

I have been getting personal training with Graham and the Urban Athletic Club for the past six months. Graham creates sessions that avoid my 50-year-old body's preexisting aches and pains while pushing me to reach new heights. Workouts are provided via the easy-to-use Chalk It Pro app and Graham is always available for questions or clarifications. I have noticed a huge difference in my strength, agility, and muscle growth. Graham has given me the tools I need to ensure that I can continue to hike, ski, bike and enjoy my Vermont mountains to the fullest!

This place is amazing! The coaches are great and the classes are great. For very exercise they’ve got modifications to make it harder or easier to match everyone from the least to the most fit. They have towels and showers and a body scanner and 24/7 open gym included… all the free weights and racks you could want. We love their CrossFit style workouts. Never gets boring.

This gym is awesome! Best gym in DC area. We tried 3 other gyms before finding Urban Athletic Club. They’ve got great CrossFit style classes with coaches that excel at modifying every exercise for all fitness levels. Plus open gym 24/7?! They’ve got a cool body scan machine to use whenever… and the pricing is great compared to other similar places.

If you're looking for a gym that sparks creativity in your workouts, this is the place. During my 2 months in DC, the owner went above and beyond to tailor a membership that fit my unpredictable schedule. What really stood out to me was the educational vibe—there’s no guesswork here. From detailed fitness insights to an in-house body composition scanner, every tool is available to help you reach your goals. It's more than a gym; it's a game-changer. I’ll definitely be recommending it to friends looking for a premium experience without the premium price tag.

I dropped in to Urban Athletic Club for the noon class while in DC on business. I felt welcomed as soon as I walked in by the Coach. We had a wide level of experience in the class and the Coach gave personal guidance to each athlete. Every movement and scaled option was demonstrated by the Coach.
The warm up was appropriate for the workout and led by the Coach. His timing was perfect and the class ended with time for a much needed cool down. Again led by the Coach.
As a CrossFit Coach and athlete for over 14 years I highly recommend Urban Athletic Club for anyone living in or visiting the area. The programing, Coaching and Community seem top notch! Thank you for letting me experience your wonderful gym.

Amazing experience at this facility!! I was with the gym for well over a year before relocating for work.
Top 3 Glows
#1 - Flexible, responsive owner and staff that will work with you for the optimal setup. This was holistic with so many quality of life considerations that larger chains just don't address. Owner is constantly enhancing and experimenting with the gear/set-up/experience to get the most for members.
#2 - Location! Nestled in a great neighborhood and near most major lines, it was always super easy to swing by with my unpredictable schedule
#3 - 24/7 Access was huge. Quality showers, storage, and strength training is something I don't want to rush. I could stash a weeks worth of workout gear so that the only limit to my progress were my own. No more rushing to finish before 9 pm closings!!!

Great facility - I dropped in twice this week (open gym, did not attend a class) and was super happy to find an awesome gym equipped for functional training/olympic lifting.
The drop in purchase process was also very easy. Many gyms like this require you to email the staff which takes 3-5 days - and can be very annoying for people like me who travel for work. Also, a fair price ($25 for open gym and $35 to drop in to a class). Most globo gyms are $40-50 for a drop in and their sales teams hound your for weeks.
It has very clean showers and I believe they had full size towels.
Also - the training they had on the wall looked strong. I think the LevelUp system they use is a very sensible approach to crossfit style training (which I am very critical of normally).

I just joined the Urban Athletics Club and I am very happy I did! I’d give it 6 stars if I could!
It’s a gem among gyms in DC, especially for those looking for encouragement, camaraderie, focus on health improvement, and teamwork.
TBH, I was initially reticent to join since I’ve only worked out with home workouts, regular gyms, or apartment building gyms.
I was reticent because I thought UAC was only a “CrossFit type” gym and thought it could be overly intense and cliquish.
I was utterly and happily wrong.
I say this because I’m not doing CrossFit, at least right now, but rather I’m following my own workout program to get into a modicum of shape. CrossFit maybe later. Lol.
To that end, UAC has an excellent “Open Gym” option, which is very reasonably priced.
With “Open Gym,” I can go there from dawn to late night to workout, subject to minimal periods when CrossFit classes are held - and even then - the chill vibe and friendly team there usually will let you do your own workout at the same time. It’s motivating to see the focus on fitness in everyone there.
The owner, Graham, goes out of his way to make people, esp newcomers, feel welcome. He is very passionate about health improvement and fitness.
The folks at UAC are very friendly and encouraging. We even had a holiday party at the gym this past weekend, where I thoroughly enjoyed talking to many of the other folks - without being out breath with ear buds in. Lol.
I learned that the folks here have very interesting backgrounds outside the gym. This additional benefit is really important bc you’d hope to maybe meet new friends in DC, and this is a great place to do it, esp if you’re new to the DC area.
I hope you consider UAC. I’m glad I got over my initial reticence bc it opened me up to a whole new community of great people.

I flew into DC for a week and was looking for a place to train. I contacted the Urban Athletic Club. They were extremely responsive and professional. They worked a deal for the week and gave me a code to train whenever I was able. I was in the gym every single day of my trip. It is empty or only a few clients 90% of the time. It's a dungeon where you can train the way you want. It's freaking fantastic. 8 squat racks plus all the Rogue bars you could imagine. Just look at the pictures... Dropped in here while out of town. It’s a decent facility and my coach was positive and encouraging. Unfortunately, that’s where the good ends. There was no whiteboard briefing and the class felt disorganized. We were doing front squats and the coach kept encouraging me to do more weight. I was at 80% of my 1RM for 5 reps and when I told him I was about where I wanted to be he suggested I put on a belt. Then during the workout he kept “chirping” at me each time I would break. I’m an experienced CrossFiter and know how to keep myself safe, but these things bothered me on principle. That said the coach was super positive and encouraging. Someone just needs to tell him this isn’t CrossFit in 2008.

Caveat: I had an intro session and decided not to pursue. The gym is clean, well lit, on-premise showers, and provides covered outdoor workouts (with heaters in the winter) so you can work out maskless.
However, this franchise is extremely expensive. To join you’re looking at a price of $520-1360, depending on workout frequency and experience. They are partnered with a next door Goop-like health testing facility, and a body scan is priced into every signup package. After that, $160/month for 2 classes/week ($280 for unlimited) with no additional amenities; no open gym time, no mobility classes. I didn’t receive any information about the coaches’ qualifications during the intro that would help justify the price. For comparison, the unlimited package at the local high end gym, which includes groupX, pool, HIIT, and cycle, is $190/mo.
