As someone over 50, I wasn’t sure about strength training but had read it was necessary for my age. I don’t stick with workouts generally but thought a personal trainer would keep me motivated. Last month, I passed my one year anniversary of working out with AJ!

Working with AJ has been a total game-changer. She focuses on strength, balance, and mobility, not just muscle. Every workout is customized for my needs and abilities, and AJ somehow knows exactly how to push me just far enough. I’ve gained strength, confidence, and energy I didn’t think I could get back at this age.

If I have pain, AJ changes the exercises to help resolve my pain and continue strengthening muscles to correct the pain rather than avoid it. Smart workouts help me be healthier and pain free.

Amy has been an awesome trainer. I I’m a 72 year-old retired woman. I came in with a lot of injuries to my body. I had a very bad accident crushed my ankle ankle and shoulder. Things are starting to get back to normal.. I can walk now and my shoulder is getting much better. Thank you, Amy.

Being disabled with limited mobility, I was unsure of trying the personal trainer route, but did not improve much with physical therapy and actually hurt quite a lot more. However, AJ was knowledgeable and helped by improving my flexibility gently. In future, we will be working on strengthening the muscle around the arthritic joints and improving my balance. Thank you, AJ. It is also nice to laugh during our sessions, look forward to the next.

If I could, I would rate AJ’s Personal Training higher than a five. I am a 65-year-old retired nurse practitioner, just starting exercise to improve my strength, flexibility, and balance. So naturally, I was afraid of injury, but AJ‘s knowledge and attention to muscle detail was invaluable. She taught me how to safely accomplish my goals. I learned to warm up, strength, training, stretch, and also perform balance exercises.AJ is an excellent qualified teacher who makes our time together so much fun. She was a great find!

My partner and I are visiting for a month and wanted to maintain our regular training schedule that we have at home. I searched the internet for options close to where we were staying. What a stroke of luck that we found AJ just minutes away. We eagerly look forward to our 3x / week sessions. She is excellent in her approach to training. I stumbled across on AJ as I was making the transition from Zoom training to in-person training. I have done group, zoom, and inperson training and prefer the one on one training. AJ and I are almost a year together and it was definitely the best decision I could have ever made. With us working together the change has been so positive and we push together to get to the next level of where I want to be. AJ is very easy to work with and she will push you to be your very best. I am very close to my weight goal, and we will continue to increase my fitness level as the journey continues. I started training with AJ of Active Joy a few months ago. My goal had been to get generally stronger and in better shape and I’ve realized that by now fitting into my clothing better, having more energy and less pain in my body. It’s been an incredible change already. I think AJ has been such a fit for me since she specializes in training women over 40. She’s able to modify exercises and wasn’t phased when I told her I had arthritis in my foot. She actually got my foot to move when it had been painful to even walk prior to seeing her. I’ve made friends from our small group classes too. I’m so happy I found AJ and this gym. I wake up eager to work out which is a first for me!

I’ve been training with AJ for sometime now and it’s been amazing. She has helped me tremendously especially because I have a bad back and she can modify my sets to fit my needs. If the service they provide is the same as the one the staff provides on the street, I'd rather not go. Dodgers gray 4x4 license plate at 3:15 pm almost hit my baby because he wouldn't let me go first. People like that give it a very bad reputation.

I have been working out with AJ for almost 3 months. I came to AJ with chronic knee pain and a frozen shoulder. I was contemplating physical therapy, but instead I decided to try working on my entire body while also trying to strengthen the muscles around my knee and increase my shoulder mobility. AJ took a great deal of time to understand my limitations and designed workouts specific to my needs. Three months later, my knee pain is better, and I have almost all my mobility back in my shoulder. I also have increased my overall strength, balance and confidence. I am so happy I found AJ!

This was always me. I’ve joined gyms, walked on the treadmill and done some basic weight stuff, and then get bored or not see results so I’d quit.

My husband and I have a very sedentary job and have noticed a significant decline in health and mobility the last couple of years. We decided (through much discussion and honestly whining on my part) to look in to getting a trainer. I put our info in on a website, I don’t remember which one, to see what types of trainers were available in our area. AJ was the first to call us and we really clicked over the phone. Still hesitant though we decided we’d just meet with her but not commit immediately. After meeting her in person, we didn’t even have a discussion! We signed up and haven’t looked back!

We have now been going to AJ for over 6 months and have even got my 73yo mother to come along. Our mobility is greatly improved, we are making healthier decisions with food, etc and most amazingly, I actually love going to working out!

AJ is extremely knowledgeable and encouraging and frankly just a joy to be around. We highly recommend her especially if you are needing the accountability and motivation to keep you focused on your health goals.

When I started with AJ, I was just hoping to gain muscle, lose fat, and get my confidence back. But AJ has given me more than I could’ve asked for. She has guided me towards reaching my goals in such a caring, meticulous way while also helping me stay in touch with my body through all stages of the journey. It is clear how quickly AJ can accommodate and read each client. She almost instantly can tell what I like or don’t like and find a solution. I leave each session feeling cheered on by AJ and proud of myself. I started training with AJ in March 2023. In high school and college, I was active, strong, and fit. Following completion of my undergraduate career, I began working and also started graduate school. My fitness quickly fell to the wayside, and I was not happy with the way I felt. I decided to find a personal trainer, due to the personalized nature of workouts, as well as the accountability factor. I wanted to get stronger, and feel better as my body carried me throughout my day. As soon as I came across AJ's profile, I knew I had found the perfect fit for me. AJ is always accommodating to my needs, and is very in-tune with what works and does not work for me; she can tell if I am not liking a certain exercise before I even know I don't like it! Since March, my strength has improved greatly, my confidence is increasing, and I have exponentially more energy than when I started with AJ. I have even started running, with plans to complete a half marathon in 2024 (and I used to absolutely dread any form of cardio). Above all, AJ works with YOU and tailors a program to fit YOUR needs, accomodations, and preferences, while still helping you to reach your fitness goals. I could not have possibly found a better fit in a trainer than AJ, and I strongly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their health in any way, at any age, and in any physical shape. I have always been interested in trying kickboxing but also intimidated by it. I did my first class tonight and it was AMAZING I got a great workout and had FUN doing it! I am so thrilled I found AJ! I love going to the stroller power work outs because it keeps me motivated to be strong for my baby! I look forward to going and making new mom friends as well as pushing myself to be healthier.
