DANGEROUS UN-TRAINED TRAINER …I signed up for personal training with Nick. During my evaluation I told Nick that less than a week ago I needed an ambulance to take me to the ER for back pain.

I said it might be best to wait, he told me he was a Physical Therapist, and he knew what to do. Well, he didn’t, during the evaluation he had me do exercises that hurt my bad again.

My back hurt so bad I went to an Orthopedic Doctor. Come to find out I have a slipped disc and the exact exercises he had me do are the exact exercises the doctor said I should never do. They could make the slip disc even worse.

You would think a professional trainer that was supposedly a Physical Therapist would have suggested I see a doctor before he had me perform any exercises, especially ones that put strain on the back.

I joined Crunch in April 2025 after taking a long break from my fitness journey. I decided it was time to invest in my health and needed some guidance, so I signed up for a training session. Before even meeting him, Coach Austin sent me a professional confirmation text and that small gesture reassured me I was in good hands.

Now, six months later, I can’t believe how far I’ve come! I’ve gone from 225 lbs down to 209 lbs the first time I’ve been out of the 200-teens in 11 years. I actually got emotional seeing that number because it represents so much hard work and growth.

I was told that in order to cancel I only needed to let them know a month ahead, so I signed up. Website won't let you print your contract so the cancellation fees are never disclosed. A year later I ended up paying $199.19 to cancel 3 memberships and after that they charged a credit card I had already deleted from their website and for which I never authorize a payment of $34.34, in the memo "clothing/shoes" -I reported this as fraud to my credit card co.
I reported the business to the city and also the BBB. If you need to cancel your membership be ready to go in person to pay them as they wont let you do it on line even though their website says you can do it. no e-mails. You have to go in person.

I went in to cancel my membership at Crunch Countryside and had one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever dealt with. When I signed up, Travis called me and told me about the penny down/first month free deal, but no one ever mentioned a 3-month contract.
When I tried to cancel, the staff member at the desk, Marzuk, immediately gave me attitude. Since I never received my card, I gave him my phone number. That’s when he told me I couldn’t cancel until November. I asked why I’d need to come back months later to cancel something I’m not even using, and instead of giving me a real answer, he got flustered, condescendingly repeated that I “should have read the contract,” and when I pointed out Crunch’s reputation for making cancellations difficult, he snapped back with: “you keep talking but do you wanna cancel or not?”
To top it all off, I ended up having to pay $102.91 just to cancel a membership I signed up for only 30 days ago. Shady business practices and awful customer service. I had planned on returning in the future, but after this experience I’ll never step foot in there again. Beware.

So I do love this gym, starting with that. Everything about it is great. I’ve made 2 complaints already about someone spraying an essential oil or whatever in the guys sauna and he is still continuing to do it. Told the front desk gentleman again this morning. A friend of mine signed up for this Crunch GYM and was scammed. She signed up with her kids and decided to cancel later on. The cancellation went fine it’s what happened afterwards is the problem. They started charging her daughter debt card for her son’s membership that was canceled. Her daughter NEVER GAVE THEM HER DEBT CARD INFORMATION. How did they get that information and why is she get charged when everything was canceled. My friend has called and called and emailed and they keep giving her the run around and won’t fix the problem. This is extremely wrong. People beware don’t go to this Crunch.

Being a wheelchair user, I’m somewhat limited in certain places due to accessibility. I was relieved to know that I wouldn’t be restricted to one area here because there’s an elevator, because it would be needed in my route to the restroom.
THREE weeks ago, mid session I needed to use the restroom. In route I saw an out of order sign on the elevator, understandable…things happen(had to leave gym to use restroom and return to finish my PT session).
Return later in the end of the week, would’ve liked to stop by the restroom on my way out but still out of order, Trainer and others did offer to assist me down the stairs. I asked about it and it was stated they are working on it should be working next week.
…following week REPEAT from previous week. TODAY THREE WEEKS LATER…MID SESSION I NEEDED THE RESTROOM, HAD TO LEAVE OUT OF GYM AGAIN AND IT REALLY ANNOYED ME TO THE EXTENT I DID NOT FINISH MY SESSION.
MY ACCOUNT IS DEDUCTED EVERY OTHER FRIDAY PLUS A MONTHLY FEE, WITHOUT FAIL…. “ANYTIME”

I've worked out in 100s of gyms across over 40 states. Generally, the quality of Crunch gyms is better than LA Fitness and sometimes EOS. This location needs a renovation pretty badly. Most of the bars are bent. The locker room/dumbell rack is falling apart. It's always crowded with plenty of room to expand in the parking lot. It doesn't have enough leg equipment, and they recently got rid of their pullover machine. Giving 3 stars instead of less because they do have some helpful staff members with decent pricing. Also, they make it almost impossible to hear your own music as their music is typically close to club volume.

Been going to this location for over a decade, I have only had one less than desirable experience with one of the staff members: he informed me that I was “obviously training my partner, and threatened to kick me out if it continued.” The partner he was referring to was my lover. Someone who I had recently worked out with at this location.

He didn’t bother to introduce himself, didn’t bother to educate me on policy, and certainly didn’t bother to ask if I was training this beautiful woman who is clearly out of my league or if this woman was my lover. He did however, ask me to step aside, which I appreciated greatly.

After a moment of reflection, I did address the situation with management; Wally and Matti were great and assured me that they would educate their employee on these matters.

Outside of that anomaly, this location has been great. The staff for the most part has cultivated an environment conducive people changing their lives for the better. While I am sympathetic to the fact that people train people in gyms illegally and that’s against policy; as professionals, due diligence should be done to some degree to validate any if not all assumptions. Surely people will lie. But I think it’s fair to say that any business owner would expect that of their employees before they threaten a tenured customer and advocate of their business.

Never usually do reviews, but had to do one for this place! At first I had a minor issue with my trainer and when I told my grievances to Wally in upper management he was more then happy to swap me to another trainer for the rest of my sessions and was able to expedite my session to 3 times a week instead of 1.

I worked with Trevor and for the rest of the expedited sessions and he was incredibly knowledgeable about all things fitness. Buildingme the perfect workout while also explaining in great detail the importance of each workout even going into the history of how it has changed overtime. Highly recommend them if your looking to get back into exercising!

Ended up trying this gym with a friend who already has a membership.She is able to bring a friend for free because of her membership. But because I forgot my ID (wouldn’t accept a picture or anything fine ok)I ended up having to sign up for a membership which is fine but I was told the base fee was $10 but the first three days would be free and I could call and cancel if I wanted.The employee ended up walking away from me multiple times while signing up and gave me no information about the gym or membership at all, wasn’t given a shirt, info that they have an app, fees just nothing.ended up enjoying the gym and was going to keep the membership until I recieved a email that after the 3 days I needed to pay the membership fee plus an additional $20 for dues and a processing fee. And then next month an additional $65 for their annual fees. Genuinely just feel like I was scammed. There’s a huge difference between $20 in two months and $105.

I love love love this gym. Love this location, the people, and the classes are fire! It’s also super clean. But the only little thing I would suggest is that they invest in at least 20 extra yoga mats for yoga classes and absolution classes for those who may not have gotten a yoga mat yet and who come in and want to take the yoga classes there or the absolution classes…..or for people like me who run out of the house, gets all the way to the gym psyched to take the absolution class and has to turn around and walk out because she forgot her yoga mat at home and there weren’t enough extra yoga mats to use for the class at the gym! I was super excited, forgot my mat, and thought that I could use an extra mat there because every gym must also provide extra mats like the other gyms I’ve belonged to, right? It should be a universal thing, right? Haha….no not at all. I am so bummed that I forgot my mat at home, but I’m also bummed that the gym didn’t provide enough mats for those who may either forget theirs at home or haven’t purchased their own quite yet until they figure out if they like the classes yet. They just need to invest in some more yoga mats! But other than that, this location is awesome.

3/25/25 update:

Crunch continues to charge my card even though I was given a receipt upon cancellation which showed a zero balance owed. I called and spoke to Ethan who processed a refund for me that i still have not received. Photos attached.

Avoid at all costs! This is the dirtiest, grimiest gym ever. The employees are sneaky scammers. WALLY is unprofessional and lies about training and packages. The machines are always broken too. I wish I had listened to the horrible reviews I read months ago and never signed up. Just cancelled my membership. The business owner should be ashamed to allow this place to operate in such a way.

So Happy I'm done with CRUNCH FITNESS. I found something better for less. I canceled my membership today 3/14/25 but they felt a need to charge me for another month. I guess they need the $. I wasn't going to argue.

I love this gym and all the staff they’re so nice and great. Always very willing to help and they have everything you would need to build muscle and gain strength, as well as plenty of treadmills and bikes. 10/10 gym.

The men’s locker room in this crunch is UNACCEPTABLY disgusting. I have been going to this location since before it was a crunch (over 10 years) and the staff here must really not care about the conditions in there. There is never a day where it is clean. Most lockers broken, clothes everywhere, and it always smells like bile.

My ESPORTA club on US-19 was closed so I had to find the closest gym to my house. Crunch was very close. I sighed up online for the free week starting today 02/23/2025 to try it. I came to this gym on today 02/23/2025. Was supposed to have 7 day free trial but a girl at reception said that was my first and last day trial even though my sign up e-mail said I’m OK for SEVEN DAY TRIAL. Then she asked if I want to sign up for membership. DEFINITELY NOT! My trial was supposed to be SEVEN days, not ONE. So God knows if I signed up for membership and had another surprise like “Oh sorry, you paid for membership but this is your last day”. Very disappointed. Not recommending to anyone

I know that you guys are opening up a palm harbor location but please fix or replace the equipment that is broken. For example the stair masters 2/6 work. It’s been like this since April it’s a very commonly used machine. I do notice that part of the gym has been cleaned within the past week so thank you for that.

Very busy .however a few machines r inop. Old broken scale in mens locker room since july . Busy gym but needs some TLC. Railings on steps need to be sanded and repainted . Rower broken back machine broken . A few bikes in op. Also.

Half of the equipment is broken or in really bad shape and making terrible noises. Facilities are absolutely filthy. People do not clean up behind themselves. It is overcrowded at all times with long lines for equipment probably due to the rest of it being out of order. Sauna is extremely small in women’s locker room. Waste of money when this is the closest gym to me.

I have had a subscription to crunch fitness for over a year, and about 2 months ago, I started a very internship in healthcare that demands my time 84 hours a week, 7 days a week. I kept my Crunch membership thinking I would be able to use it, but with my intense hours, I am absolutely unable to make it to Crunch, and my home location is in Clearwater, which is 45 minutes away from my job, so I can’t just leave work in the middle of the day to go cancel a gym membership.

Every time I call the phone number on the website, although it is a Clearwater area code, it routes me to an automated phone system that tells me I need to see the gym in person to cancel.

Obviously that’s not an option, so I emailed the email that is on their website, and received no response several times.

Now they have tried to charge my account, for which there is no money because I’m just an intern, and they applied a late fee and their overseas billing department has been calling me back to back.

One day, I was able to answer the phone for the billing dept and I told him my situation but because he just works for the call center, he couldn’t help me. I asked him if there was any contact information for the gym, and he ended up giving me a contact phone number. I asked him if I’m 100% able to speak to someone from the front desk that way, and he said yes.

After getting off the phone with him, I tried calling that number, to which I found out it’s the exact same number on their website, which leads to the automated system.

Then, the management team sent me an email about my declined payments, which is from a different email than on their website. I emailed them back almost immediately to tell them my situation, and that I was unable to get to the gym in person to cancel my membership, and received an automated email saying “oh no, we’re sorry to hear about your injury! Please provide a doctors note stating your inability to attend the gym”

I emailed back again almost immediately to tell them that I’m not sure if that was an automated response but that’s not nearly what I said. No response.

I emailed again a few days later as a follow up to no avail.

I ended up having to escalate the situation to the Florida Department of Consumer Services. I feel like all of this is highly unnecessary, And I’m disappointed in Crunch.

*Edit to respond to their reply: I DID cancel in person, however their printer was magically broken, so I was not given documentation verifying my cancellation, I sadly took them at their word.

Really disappointed with the poor customer service of Molly at this location. Since we were unable to cancel our memberships online like you can with the other locations, I came in well in advance of my next billing date & they’re insisting on charging us for another month, although that is not the Crunch policy on their website. Unfortunately 2 years of paying 4 memberships doesn’t get an easy say cancellation.
Take note in the event you want to try to cancel your membership.

Machines have been out of order for over a month now… I have told the staff about many machines needing servicing and still nothing has been fixed. There are four ellipticals of the same kind which are my go to, only one of them works properly - have told the staff as well it’s been two months now nothing is fixed. I saw a new machine out of order today, don’t expect this to be fixed any time soon. Everytime I walk into this gym I get more and more disappointed. Can’t wait for the Palm Harbor location to open so I can stop going to this filthy and poorly mantained gym. At this point i am even considering Planet fitness again…

I only come here because it’s convenient for my job, but the managers, especially Mike with the tattoos, are rude. The trainers and front desk staff are always pressuring you to sign up for things, and if you decline, they give you attitude. It’s not all of them, but certain trainers definitely don’t respect personal boundaries. The prices keep going up every year, and it feels like they only care about sales rather than fostering a true sense of community.

This is genuinely one of the worst gyms I have been to in a while. Equipment is god awful, half of it is broken. There are so many children running around, it's insane. Just all together not for me. Only here because my gym closed. Hopefully the new gym is better and doesn't have such a 15 year old vibe to it.

Horrible gym. The person checking people in gave me a blank stare when I went to do my cardio the treadmill was squeaking so bad I switched to a different one that froze up and shut down so I went on a different one that didn’t turn on 3 different treadmills to find one that actually turned on. The entire place seems like it’s deteriorating and smells horrible like they never clean. Maybe time for some new equipment and new staff?
