FIRST AND FOREMOST!! The front page STILL says "has a swimming pool - has "A SAUNA" - has a shower !!" So the truth is, it has 1 swimming pool, has 1 hottub, and has 2 STEAM ROOMS (1 for male, 1 for female), NOT A SAUNA. Those are 2 very different things. Sauna = dry heat. Steam room = STEAM (wet) NOT DRY heat. Ok, on with the rest of my post.

They have a large selection of work out equipment, and many different types of exercise classes. I go every other day and I am really happy with the results that I'm getting. The staff is FANTASTIC, and very helpful. Love it there. You will too. I won't be stopping my membership any time soon. Great place.

2025-09-03 ; Still an awesome place to go

2025-11-07 ; Nothing has changed, still awesome there.

Pretty disappointed in the recent cardio β€œupgrade” the the machines. We went from having screens on individual machines & now we’ve downgraded. Not what I was expecting reading the notice of an upgrade as well as paying more here than other places. Please go back to the other machines. We had more than 10 and now only 2 with the screens.

Horrible management that will lie and twist their words to avoid any accountability. They are next to impossible to get ahold of. Won’t call back, don’t reply to email, never there in person, staff have no clue when they will be present to talk with. Totally unacceptable.

An walking trails and picking areas have an incredible future, if an organization takes time and dedication to invest to make the necessary addition and repairs. The sports field are awesome. Great parking lot

I love the y. It is my regular gym and I have been coming to the different ones in the area for a decade. The swfl ys each have their own individual style and equipment is nicely varied throughout. My favorite spots at the pc y are the virtual room where you can pick any class and work out on your own in your own space. I also love the people here, they are very friendly. There is a lot of wonderful classes like belly dancing and body combat to name a few of my favorites. πŸ’›

If I could give 0 stars I would. my husband and I have lived in several different states and cities and have always been fond of the Y, because they have relative good prices and they are clean and functioning equipment.. However this isn't the case here.. the gym cost rises in price it seem like every month. the machines are held together with tape and some use Allen wrenches to select the weight
( if the machine even has one) other wise you are on the hunt to see what machine you can raid.

the cable machines are old, but that's not the problem when you sit to pull for a rep the resistance you get is not from weight it is from the old worn pully and rod system making your pull feel like it slips and skips with each pull.

the benches are old broken and some have no wheels which when you need to move it to a station it is difficult because these benches are heavy they are meant for you to lift weights so they need to be heavy for stability but when they have no wheels they are difficult to move on the rubber mats that protect the floor.

the pool is dirty and not taken care the other it was cloudy as if it needed to be maintained cleaned it was gross.

my question is why are the prices increasing but not one machine that I mentioned has been repaired or replaced to reflect the price hike this gym has had in just a few month it is obvious the money isn't being utilized to keep the equipment in good working order I understand the economy isn't great but when you pay for something and when you keep getting price increases one would expect the state of this gym which looks run down and like no one cares for the equipment and the gym goers would some what improve perhaps one machine every 6month or year would make me and I'm sure many other feel like their cash is being used for what you are being charged for.

oh and lets add insult to injury the hours suck they close early on the weekend and 9pm during the week so you basically pay for a part time gym. and watch out for a storm if a storm comes the facilities closes which makes sense but if they close for a month or longer you loose your money because they do not freeze the membership.

if you don't believe me just take a tour

The aquatic facilities are consistently closed for maintenance (in addition to unavoidable closures due to weather.) If you are joining for access to the pool, I suggest attending the Y in Venice, where I have not experienced this issue. It’s worth noting that the jacuzzi has also often been closed for extended periods of time during the last 6 months, due to maintenance. The equipment is dated but functional and the building is mostly clean. Apart from these grievances, it’s a standard facility with cordial and upbeat staff.

Do NOT take your child to the Y for camp. They have a bunch of kid counselors. The first day i went my kid came running up to me im bathing suit bottoms and a regular shirt. She never went in the pool. She β€œlost her top” on the way to the pool. Instead of getting her to redress just left her like that. The things you send to camp will just be thrown in some tubs to look through the next day. They will tell you that you owe alll this money and not remember to check to see if you have a scholarship, already paid registration. But when you call they will tell you on the phone oh no you are all good nothing is due for camp. Lol. The second time she was to get in the pool. She wasnt able to get in the pool because she cant get the top on herself. I asked someone in the morning about it. She said oh maybe it’s a guy counselor? That could be why?…my child cried for me to not leave and instead of helping they just scream to the other one by the portable to come and get the kid crying. They wont help ur kid look for a back pack so expect to stand there for 10 mins at pickup…..i also requested a refund. And they charged my card again.

The facility is gross. The locker rooms + shower areas are minimally attended to and it is the very first gym I have ever been that did not have a scale. The spa is closed more than it is open and if they don't get your payment through on the first try beware that you will have a late fee tagged on that is in excess of 60% of your membership fee.
Overpriced under managed. Very disappointing for the organization. Overall. The sky family should take some of those fees and Invest them into betterment of the facility

This branch is right down the road from my house the staff is nice and it’s not very crowded when you need to get a workout in. Only complaints the hours suck open till 9 pm Mon-Thursday but closes at 8pm on Friday which makes no sense. The equipment is old and hasn’t been updated for as long as I’ve lived here since. Other than that not a bad gym and the people there are nice.

Summer camp customer service is absolutly awful.
I have written two reviews ever cause im usually pretty understanding and very laid back but...
I had signed my daughter up for summer camp. Couple weeks before camp started we canceled due to making other arrangments and not only that but one of those camps was canceled by the ymca due to not having a teacher.
I went in and filled out the paperwork to cancel. I cancelled just within the 2 week timeframe to get a full refund on one of the weeks so i would be responsible for 80% and i was fine with that. After cancelling They still charged my card for each week that i had canceled. Right away I called, texted, emailed, called some more, physically went into the office and left several messages simply asking for a call back to make sure the cancellation had been properly processed and a refund would be issued. Here we are almost 6 weeks later and just yesterday did i finally get a call back (after going into the office and complaining) . I still haven't been refunded (but have been told that it is in the works) and now that could take several more weeks. When i mentioned to the camp director that i was being charged interest on all of this while they take weeks - months to process the refund her answer was "thats just how it is"
I am normally super patient but this is not ok,. If your going to take 4-8 weeks to get back to someone and start to process a refund then they could at least give them their full refund to cover the interest that their credit card company is charging them. If she had not ignored me from the start and actually started processing the refund sooner then later then I would not be upset.
I realize life is busy but to totally ignore someone for a month is a bit ridiculous. they could have simpy said "we will get back to you" or made some sort of acknowledgment.

I’ve been going to the YMCA, they make you pay 50 dollars a month for a poorly maintained pool, a hot tub that never works, a sauna that doesn’t work, awful equipment, gross locker rooms. The staff was amazing. I’ve had problems reaching management. I was in there earlier around 6 and this women named Kirsten was yelling at a co worker when they were cleaning the majority of the time i was there. There was other co workers slacking off on their phones as well but none of them got spoken to. I also look up the pay for the YMCA and they only pay GROWN ADULTS 11 dollars in hour and still give them a difficult time. I’ve been here multiple times and have been disappointed each time.

I’ve attended this gym for 10yrs now. I use to bring my daughter to swim when she was little. I bring my son now often too. The pool is indoors, has lifeguards on duty, and lanes for laps. When my daughter became a teen, she was part of a leadership group here as well. We love the family atmosphere. They sometimes offer β€œDate nights”, where parents can go out for a bit, while their children hang out in the gyms daycare. We never did that but it’s a cool option. There is something for everyone. Unlike typical gyms that seem to cater to young single people. We love that we can go as a family. We bring our son to the playground here often as well. It was remodeled fairly recently and has a lot of cool equipment. There’s a big field to play ball in, tennis courts, etc. The gym also offers lots of different classes. The locker rooms are spacious and clean, and include showers, and hair dryers. You’ll have to bring ur own lock. They also have a relaxing sauna. Highly recommended this gym.

Would give 0 stars if it was an option! Absolutely ridiculous! Only signed up here because the staff member who signed me up stated that all members of my household could be on my "family membership" only to be told later that this is not the case and that the other family member would need to have their own account. Not sure why the family membership is $80 a month and doesn't literally include all members of your household? Rude staff. Management doesn't return calls. Requested to cancel membership multiple times and was given the run around. There are too many other gyms in the area with cheaper rates and competent employees to waste any time or money here. This place only cares about making money and it shows.

Very disgusted at this point and there's nothing that would ever make me believe that this organization is for non-profit. I was charged the week of a NATURAL DISASTER, "HURRICANE IAN"!!!!!!! My 3 children attended their program 1 day which was Monday September 26th. Later that day, parents were all notified that all schools in Sarasota county will be CLOSED from September 27th to September 29th (Hurricane Ian arrived Wednesday, September 28th) When questioned as to why I am being charged for unused services caused by a Natural Disaster, Lisa that overlooks the aftercare program in which my children attends, proceeds to say because of the Monday that they were open they have to charge for the week. It's sickening to believe that they are "non-profit" when many many families were displaced from their homes, reduction or loss of pay, loss of food for days without electricity for days, for her response to only be "We were open on Monday that they attended". I have no words to describe how shallow of a self centered response it was and I'm livid!!!! Emails were sent out to the SWFL executive team as well as the President and CEO, Gene Jones. I'm sure someone will not be happy!

We are snowbirds, and my husband joined in January, 2022. He cancelled his membership before we headed back to Michigan in April. To our shock, they had continued to withdraw his membership fee from our checking account for the past 6 months. I spoke to Kyle who told me that they had no record of the cancellation, basically saying that we lied about it, and there was nothing he was willing to do to rectify the situation. I asked if he could meet me halfway, and refund 3 months, but he said no. He kept calling me β€œmy friend”, but friends do not treat friends like this. Any reputable business would want to make things right with their members. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.

Signed up for a family plan at the counter associates suggestion, after calling to verify plan details and prices 2 times. Again confirmed in person details.

Was then only notified that we didn’t qualify and one of our members would have to buy another membership completely because the scan card didn’t work. They didn’t have the courtesy to even call and explain.

It took me calling for 2 days to get ahold of the β€œmembership coordinator” who informed me she couldn’t make membership decisions... ironic I know.

I then got a call finally from the person in charge who even admitted it was her employees mistake but wouldn’t fix the problem. Just gave a day pass... and suggested we spend another 46 dollars for that person because they screwed up.

Do yourself a favor just get a membership somewhere else if you want the pool classes etc. or get a planet fitness black card.

This place is outdated with horrible customer service.

Clean environment and you'll usually have the whole place to yourself.

Only drawback is that they close really early at 2pm on Saturday and aren't even open Sunday.

The best facility! Here’s what I love: the gym is huge; loads of classes with top-notch instructors; huge indoor pool with whirlpool outside; helpful, attentive staff; very clean; great childcare program,. I’ve made many friends there-people are friendly & good-humored. The locker room is very large , with ample private shower areas, hair dryers, etc. I’m extremely impressed with Franz Ross YMCA and consider it the best gym experience I’ve had in my life. I splurged and attended their fundraiser last fall by myself. Didn’t know a soul there but met many new people by the end of the night! Very friendly people, great event, worthy organization!

Very knowledgable staff, friendly, and helpful. Good selection of classes. I enjoy this gym. The staff has a good handle on the Covid cleaning. I feel safe there. Clean locker rooms. Well run pool.

Gym looks outdated no matter how much paint the slap on the walls,, ceiling paint in the ladies bathroom showers is peeling. Some of the dispensers are broken in the shower stalls. Floors are nasty and constantly wet in the dressing areas. Handicap bathroom not up to date.

Nice little play ground next to the YMCA. Play structurrs for toddlers and big kids. There is a nature trail and tennis court too. Love the natural shade from mature trees.

The gym is okay I mean it gets the job done. Very out dated and the pool area looks like it could use a surface clean and pressure wash. The website says trainers are available but when I go in the evening not 1 trainer is ever I mean EVER available. I got a hold of Chris he said he would have another trainer contact me and never heard from Amanda and I've been there a few weeks, I still haven't heard from her or another trainer to sign up for personal training. I've left my Informayion with the front to have one call me. But it just seems like the trainers don't care about business. Chris told he he only stays til 12pm. So his hours wouldn't work for me when I was told the trainers are always available to make time work. I like the gym but once my four months is up I probably won't stick to this gym. I only signed up because I was told trainers would be available. Not true. I guess no one likes to work anymore. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I don’t personally think people should be bringing in junk food and eating donuts at the ymca gym entrance, but other than that, it’s amazing!
