Avoid this Gym.

When I was student I signed up. Ended up moving out of town not knowing that they would continue to try and charge me instead of breaking my contract. Long story short they sent my contract to collections and here I am 7 yrs later. 2 6 yrs removed from Gainesville and 3 years removed from florida trying to sell my car. Come to find out there is a lien on because Gainesville health and Fitness somehow sold a non existent debt. I went to this gym for maybe a month but somehow they are affecting my life 7 yrs later.

Gainesville is a sleepy little town. One that is still slowly growing on me even though I have lived here for over 4 years now. This gem of a gym is perhaps my favorite thing about the sleepy little town.

The management of GHF strive to make this gym better for its members. Providing even more value for money is unheard of especially in this economy but it happens here. I have been a member since 2021 and it just keeps getting better. Expansion of the facilities, new machines, more free group classes, more room to spread out to beat the rush. It just keeps getting better and better. I am not saying it is perfect but it is really as good as it gets. I am often on the road traveling for work and I have yet to see a gym that honestly competes.

I am not sure how long I am going to be in Gainesville but GHF certainly makes it harder to leave. It has set a standard for what I would want in a future home gym.

Thank you. We see you and recognize the outstanding efforts! Please get us a few more rope attachments for the cable machines and that would totally rock my world even more.

Best gym I have been to! 5 stars! Awesome workout every time. I am so glad I left PF and joined this gym. Chris was my Membership Advisor who was nice, and answered all of my questions and took me on a tour. I even got credit to use at the juice bar and free shirt. Large 2 story facility. Lots of members every time I go but large enough to not feel cramped. My only recommendations or improvements are: 1. To many people are just sitting at machines on their phones, watching YouTube, or talking on their phones or in groups and not actually working out, the one machine I want to use.
2. There are always guys in sandals, flip flops, crocs working out or screwing around like they're at the beach but no one says anything to them.
3. Multiple times I witnessed people working out and not cleaning their machine after using it and all sweaty. Gross.
I wish they would enforce their own rules more. Trust me, join this gym, you won't be disappointed ;).

I had a really disappointing experience with the management. I was clear that I only wanted a day pass, but was told I had to sit through a sales pitch with Erin. That wasn’t what I came for, so I left. I just wanted to work out for a day and felt that my time wasn’t respected. I had been considering a membership, but this experience changed my mind. Honestly, it might have been a blessing in disguise given the concerning business practices mentioned in other reviews.

Dry sauna smells like a dorty socks + hot tube has rust and molds with filter blocked with hair. I don't know what they are doing i 2 hrs of cleaning everyday.

Sauna should has a special rocks with/without herbs to keep it smell good. People shouldn't be allowed to get in the hot tub with regular clothes, should be only with bathi suits

It’s a well-equipped gym with lots of options. My review is from an interaction with an employee, Karen.

I went in to discuss pricing options. I’ve been with GHF for a few years, but I’ve been going to another gym with my partner for the past year and haven’t been using my membership at GHF.

Rather than giving me options for pricing to justify continuing my GHF membership, Karen said “there is nothing we can do for you” and elaborated that she’s been at GHF for 45 years, and they’re constantly being “audited”.

It was an unexpectedly stressful interaction. I was expecting a sales pitch for family memberships or a creative solution to my needs, but I was told “everyone pays the same monthly dues, so you can go ahead and cancel”

Expensive onboarding fee if you don’t want to get stuck in a year contract. The main location is always crowded and the vibe is not that great compared to other gyms I have been to. Unfortunately there aren’t many gyms in Gainesville.

The women’s location has old equipment and not a great selection (only one free weight rack but a dozen elliptical machines!). The staff are nice but for the price I have been to better places.

I recommend doing the month to month contract rather than the year to year bc it is very hard to get out of their annual contracts apparently. Also they seem to have some outdated policies regarding staff appearance with tattoos and piercings. I’m planning on switching to a barbell focused gym in the new year.

I requested a cancellation that they processed in May and they have now charged me twice outside of the 30-day cancellation window so I have switched my review to 1-star as I paid upfront when I registered to cancel at anytime.

They are having the grand opening of the new extension AS WE SPEAK and I went to the gym to do my usual leg day. While walking down the stairs after my workout, I hear two of the young female employees walking directly behind me joke about how they wanted to "just push slow people down the stairs" - i.e me.
I attend this gym 5 days a week, crazy to know that they employ such disrespectful kids. Make me wonder what other things they say under their breath about the elderly, heavier gym goers, etc...
Brand new facility or not, I would not recommend.

Read the fine print in your membership. It was never communicated to me that I was signing a two year membership for my wife and I that includes a $140 per person fee if you choose to cancel. They also bill you biweekly to add additional payments over the year, you are not just paying twice a month. A complete rip off for a gym that is packed a majority of the time. Listen to the other reviews that say they have horrible customer service after you become a member. The gym and workers in the gym are nice, but I’ve only gone a couple times since I signed up in November because in early December I received a letter in the mail saying my payments weren’t going through. It said that even if I resolve the issue I still have to contact the business office.

The letter was dated December 5th, but I did not receive it until the 20th (not their fault here) but I then reached out to both the business office and the person that signed me up for the gym (Joyce) by the 23rd. My call to the business office went to voicemail and I still have not heard back, it is now January 27th. Joyce has responded twice over the course of the month with the last time being January 10th telling me my balance and that I need to update my payment info. I asked how I do that to no response, and regardless once I do I have to still get in contact with the business office according to their letter.

When I initially signed up one of the numbers for my card number was put in wrong and they called instantly to fix it so they could charge the sign up dues, for whatever reason I guess they didn’t update that payment method in the system for future payments and now this is the result. I’m assuming at some point they’ll reach out to me to resolve this, but in the meantime my balance is going up and I haven’t even been using the facilities due to this issue. I can’t wait to receive a large bill for a gym I haven’t even been to in over a month. I can just hope that this is not impacting my credit score due to their negligence. I would not recommend you sign up or if you do just hope that you don’t have any issues during your time there.

Update as of February 1st: It’s now been almost two months that I’ve been trying to resolve this. I just received a letter in the mail about my “delinquent membership” and how I signed a contract to make timely payments. I still not have heard anything back from the business office or from Joyce. I have a full time job and am extremely busy, as someone who is trying to use their service I shouldn’t have to be the one on top of their office hounding them to help me. This is definitely the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

It's a great facility with all the latest equipment, personable and knowledgeable staff with a great environment fueled by the work culture. Most everyone I'm acquainted with goes to the max to accomplish their roles and help whomever needs anything. I am 85 year old woman and have been to many Fitness Centers in my life. This is by far the very best. The machines are great for your continued health and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I am not an exercise person but I make myself go twice a week - whether I want to or not. I absolutely credit this gym with being in the good shape I am. Way more mobile than most people my age. It is a must do --- even if you don't like to exercise -- use their machines. Going to this gym is the highlight of my post-work evenings. Tons of gym equipment and classes for all skill levels. The pool area and boxing room is my favorite. I’ve been a member for at least 10 years and have only recently had a personal training session. My personal trainer was very insightful and encouraging. I truly enjoy coming here.

(Oct 2024) Google asked for an update on my review and not much had changed, except the once friendly and welcoming staff seem to have been replaced with staff that mostly ignore patrons. Have only gone in a few times recently, so it may be happenstance, though I've since heard this observation echoed by others.

(early 2024 edit) This edit is thanks to an erroneous extra billing, (that I followed the instructions to opt out of the services I was charged for.) When calling to address this, I was meet with confirmation that I'm not the only one this happened to and my only recourse is to "leave a voicemail".

Sign up was more complicated than necessary, requiring a meeting with a certain set of staff members that lead us to having to drive over three separate times in twenty-four hours. After the lack of communication, sign up was easily rushed and completed.
Facility appears clean. Staff seem friendly.

Gainesville health and fitness is the go to place for all things fitness and exercise. They have an enormous variety of machines and classes. I love the spin bike for warm-up and then stair climber from there. X-force has been a lifesaver for me, helping my with recovery from multiple back surgeries. I was able to gain muscle and rehabilitate in a safe environment.

Opened 24/7, has a cold plunge, sauna, steam room, hottub, and has an upstairs and downstairs weight room.

I have heard from some people that this gym is too expensive, but it is 60 bucks a month. That is 2 bucks a day. Go consistently and you will make friends and it is worth it!
If you love a crowd come between 5-7pm. If you want more privacy during your lifts come early mornings or between 12-3 for less people. I like the busy times for the good energy to train hard!

I am a television announcer for ESPN, and also a fitness fanatic. Every place I travel to announce sports, I always seek the best locally owned facility to get my work outs in. For every sport I announce in Gainesville, I always get a pass to work out at Gainesville Health & Fitness. There's no question I would be a member there if I lived in Gainesville. Some of the things I like about it are the amount of dumbbells, with multiple options of the same weight, the variety of equipment for different levels of fitness, a well run cycle class program and the efficiency of the staff. I have never visited where I did not see staff walking around and making sure everything is in the right spot. The layout of this gym means you're rarely not able to use what you want to use. Bottom line, it starts with management, and it's clear every inch of space is well thought out, and with an actual purpose behind where everything is positioned. If you're in Gainesville, don't waste your time trying other places. If you're serious about health and fitness, they even put those things in the name!

From my personal experience, this gym is the best in Gainesville. If you wanted to feel like a Greek god or goddess entering Mount Olympus welcomed by kind smiles and pleasant greetings that usher you up to what will be the downfall of whatever strength you think you have while you are on the machines, then this is your place to go. The atmosphere is loaded with perseverance and power, the gym is cleaner than your dad‘s favorite car, the amenities are as numerous as the stars in the andromeda galaxy, and the smoothie bar fulfills your sweet tooth cravings better than that snickers you left in your car while it was still hot outside. I’ve been a casual user of Gainesville Health and Fitness Center (GHF) for some time now, primarily utilizing their "line" workout and the cold plunge. However, my recent experiences have left me incredibly disappointed and frustrated.

First, I frequently had to wait for excessive amounts of time for an employee to assist me with the workout machines. On three separate occasions, I found myself waiting while a male employee was busy flirting with a female customer. This unprofessional behavior is unacceptable and infuriating.

Second, the cold plunge, which I enjoy, often has black drain bugs floating in the water. Despite numerous complaints, nothing was done to address this issue. I allowed my membership to lapse due to these ignored complaints. When I received several nasty letters from GHF, I called to explain why I stopped going. The person on the phone apologized profusely and assured me the manager would call to discuss the issues. Based on that assurance, I decided to renew my membership.

Unfortunately, I never received a call from the manager. Last night, I went to work out and once again found black drain bugs in the cold plunge. When I went to the front counter to complain, I was ignored by two employees who helped someone who came in after me. This level of neglect and unprofessionalism is simply unacceptable.

GHF needs to address these issues immediately. Until then, I cannot recommend this facility to anyone. If you're considering joining GHF, think twice and perhaps look elsewhere.

I get this isn’t an internet cafe but I can’t get songs to play even at 8:30 at night when the gym is at barely 1/10th capacity. When it’s busy forget it. Also it would be nice to have more full size trashcans and a few more wipe dispensers.

GHF is like none other! Apart from being a top-notch facility, it boasts some of the best staff/customer service you will find in Gainesville in North Central Florida. I’d like to particularly commend Donte Jones (fitness counselor) who goes above and beyond to address member concerns/questions. To my knowledge he has been with GHF for years, and whether on shift or not he always takes the time to help members.

I have been to many gyms in my life and Gainesville Health and fitness is without a doubt the best gym I have ever attended. The amenities and equipment are superb. The facility is always clean and the staff always friendly and accommodating. I’ve been a member for well over a decade and wouldn’t consider another gym. You won’t find a better gym anywhere.

The staff really makes this place great. They have a good selection of machines and a huge list of free classes to choose from that are included in your membership! You are guaranteed to find something for everyone. All the exercise equipment works great but most of the machines are clearly not new models. It is great that they have a pool/spa/sauna/steam room facility as I use it every time I visit. My one critique is that they could be a little more diligent about cleaning the showers and pool area. There is visible mold growth in the grout in the men's showers. It is not an enormous infestation by any means but it is definitely visible. The edge of the pool also appears to have some discoloration from organic growth. Prices do seem a little steep but they are the only gym that offers these services in the area so they really don't have much competition.

Other than those minor details, this is my favorite gym I have been a member of here in Gainesville. I visit 3-5 times per week and always look forward to my time there. I have never had a negative interaction with the staff, they have all been fantastic.

I have been a member since 1997. The staff at both facilities (main and Tioga) are exceptional. They are always friendly, helpful, and courteous. They go out of their way to welcome me and professionally assist me when I have questions about the use of unfamiliar equipment. I might not always be excited to GO work out, but AFTER working out, I am always glad I went. I know my life is being extended by the use of high quality equipment, a clean environment, and the many choices in activities. As I age, I am grateful to have GH&F to help keep me as healthy and strong as I can be!

Boo, thumbs down, a profiteering-only business. GHF got a lot of good publicity when it opened the "Fit for All" program for disabled/autistic adults. The program functions only when students at UF are in session and act as volunteers. This means that for the weeks between UF's academic calendar, disabled people can't work out with a caregiver to stay fit. GHF used to allow the "Fit for All" disabled participants to come in and use the machines or pool when "Fit for All" was not in session--but now, that's not permitted. I consider this a cheapskate change in policy. My severely autistic son looked forward to workouts at GHF once or twice a week when "Fit for All" was out of session, but now he is required to purchase a membership for $754 to work out between semesters, which is not feasible because he lives too far away to come regularly--like many other disabled participants. Shame on you, GHF.

I have been going to GHF for about 8 months now. I love the fact that you can sign up to talk to trainer or any of their programs without any additional cost to determine if the program is the right fit for you. I also love the fact that you have multiple locations that you can go to. They also have a 360-body scan so you can see if you are making improvements with your current workout routine.

As a member of GHFC for over 38 years- I have had the pleasure of working out alongside several wonderful members of our community. The facility is always up to date with classes and equipment while the floor/restrooms/showers are immaculate . I went to pick up something from their Smoothie Bar. They have an assortment of snacks and ready-made Foods. Unfortunately, all of the ready-made salmon and chicken meal bowls were past their best by date. When I informed the attendant of this, he said, " technically they're not expired, it's just past the best buy date." This concerns me that they don't check their products, and it makes me wonder what else in the back is being served past the "best by" date in order to make an extra buck. There were no other numbers on the packaging to indicate expiration vs. best by dates, and typically other food establishments pull products that have passed the best by date for food quality and safety. A lot of elderly people and immonocompromised people come here and could get seriously ill from something like this depending on how long the fish and chicken sat. I wanted to send feedback about this and not post it here, but the front desk said, " it's online," and I can't find a place to send feedback anywhere. Also, unrelated note but very important, the pool area and locker rooms are in serious need of cleaning and maintenance. You can see other reviews mentioning the dirty, rusty pool areas, and it's a topic that comes up almost every week during pool classes on Sundays.

What kinda gym doesn’t have towels? You gotta bring your own. They don’t even stock paper towels in the bathrooms.

Plus their memberships are unethical.. you gotta pay multiple months worth of fees to switch to another gym.
Even the promotion they lure you in with… a month of hydro massage thing.. that didn’t work for me for weeks because ‘the person in charge of activating it is on a break’

It’s a joke of a gym. They don’t even treat their trainers right.

So, I’ve been a member here for 10 years now, and have loved every minute of my experience here until now. I cannot begin to explain the extreme rage I feel now that there are literal CHILDREN, I’m talking 12-13 year olds, allowed here during peak hours. These children aren’t even courteous or respectful, not even the slightest. They are unaware of their surroundings, and I cannot even begin to count the bruises on my stomach or legs from the times I’ve hurt myself slamming weights into my body to prevent an accident from happening because a child has run out in front of me. I don’t care if they have memberships, an adult should be around or with them at all times otherwise they shouldn’t be allowed to workout. This isn’t a daycare and I spend too much money to be this stressed out at a place I come specifically to de-stress. Seriously guys this is absolutely ridiculous. Do better.

Great gym with lots of amenities and a solid sense of community once you’ve been going for a while. My only point of potential improvement would be for the wifi coverage, as I often have to use my cell service to stream music. Overall very worth the money and a great place to work out.

Update: they’ve now begun to remove amenities. No more theraguns or vibrating foam rollers.

GHF has everything you could ever want in a gym membership. I could sit here and list all the machines and fitness areas but you can get that from the website. What you really want to know is that it is clean and tidy. The staff work hard to keep it that way. The patrons are respectful and everyone maintains a cordial society within the gym. Of course there are high traffic times that I like to call "pretty people hour" that can sometimes be intimidating but that's any gym you go to. Great spot to work out

Cheapest daycare on earth. Just drop your teens off, the staff will let them run wild with no supervision. The machines are over twenty years old, and they show it. The floor tiles near the weight bench will trip you. The staff will ignore this problem even when you text Karen directly. Also, it will cost nearly two hundred dollars, if you were foolish enough to sign up for the two year plan only to realize that you are subsidizing a teenage O2B kids facility. Looks great and has a friendly staff, but the drawbacks are not worth the cost.

I've been a member here for about 3 months now. I'm going to do a pros & cons review. This review is for the Tioga gym.
Pros:
- The staff is friendly and pleasant. I always get a "hi" or "bye" when arriving or leaving. That isn't always the case with many gyms.
- The place is always clean.
- There's a large variety of equipment
Cons:
- This is my biggest complaint with this gym. The free weights, dumbbells specifically, are a mess. It's common to see someone staring at the various weight racks for a long time. The reason; they can't find the weights they were looking for. The other day I needed the 45s, 50s and 55 lb dumbbells. They were 3 different racks. That's right. The 45s were on one rack, the 50s on another and the 55s on yet another rack. And the "mess" is different every day. I've been a member at over a dozen gyms in my lifetime, this gym is by far the worst for this particular problem.
- The staff will text you endlessly, trying to sell you additional services, at a price, but you never see them in the workout areas. I've seen high school boys wrestling on the floor, over and over, with no employee doing anything about it. There are only 5 weight benches there in the dumbbell area. I have seen people sit on a bench for 40 minutes, staring at their phone, monopolizing that bench. Not an employee to be found.
- I've never been to a gym with so few fans. It's crazy! Put some money into the place.
In general, the workout areas need to be monitored and managed better. It should not take 2-3 minutes to find matching set of dumbbells.
