I recently joined Golden Tiger Tae-Kwon-Do at 55 years old, and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my health. I originally came just to get some exercise, but the instructor have taught me so much more than I ever expected.

Not only am I more flexible than I’ve been in years, but I’m also getting stronger, more energetic, and overall in much better shape. The atmosphere is positive, motivating, and welcoming for all ages and skill levels. I never imagined I could start a martial art at my age, but the team here makes it possible — and enjoyable!

Master Hill is an excellent teacher! I returned to Tae Kwon Do after of taking a decade-long break. He trains you to apply TKD to real-world self defense which is surprisingly uncommon in most schools — they often only focus on classical, formal training. Highly recommend!

I recently moved from out of state and was looking for a taekwondo school so that I could continue my training. I observed other classes in the area, but once I came to Grand Master Hill’s school, I knew this was different. In addition to being an absolute expert in the art of Taekwondo, Master Hill has a gift for teaching. He gives individual attention to his students and truly understands their potential, so he pushes you to be better than you were the day before. I was brand new to Tae Kwon Do at 21 years old. Master Hill helps you feel as comfortable as possible, and really wants to see you do well. I've been here about 8 months and I know I've improved so much from where I started. It's a small school with a big heart. The style of Tae Kwon Do he teaches is slightly modified to fit real-world needs, because one of his most important goals is to make sure you know how to protect yourself. He's a Grand Master, trust me--- he knows what he's doing. Building these kind of skills inevitably builds confidence, which is especially cool to witness with some of the other students. Where do I start. About 5 months ago I was looking to pick up martial arts again and having studied TKD as a kid I figured I would start there and then look to other martial arts or even a mixed MA school if I couldn't find what I was looking for. After calling and web searching almost every TKD school in the Orlando area and only finding belt mills and kid-centric places I was about ready to look to another style that caters more towards serious adult students when I found the website for Golden Tiger.

Finally a TKD school that not only teaches the great kicks and formal techniques we all associate with TKD, but also blends hapkido and korean kickboxing to make you a more well rounded fighter with a viable mixed martial art arsenal for self defense.

So I went for my trial lesson, signed up that night, and haven't looked back. Months later I'm so pleased with how my life has changed for the better. I'm more flexible, stronger, more confident, have more fun, and can defend myself already should the need arise. Bottom line, Grandmaster Hill teaches you a more practical application of TKD than the "Olympic style" the more traditional schools teach.

Also worth noting is that Grandmaster Hill has a flexible schedule with options for people like me who work in the service industry and cannot attend many classes in the evenings. There is also a strong contingent of adult students, which as a 29 year old returning to the dojang for the first time in over a decade, made me feel a lot better than the schools that were clearly focused on being after school kid care facilities with those one or two adult students in the back corner (we all know those schools).

Just a word of warning: You will have to work for everything including your rank. There's no progressing forward until a technique is properly mastered which means you'll most likely need to practice incessantly at home if you want to succeed. But you will have Grandmaster Hill and a team of really awesome advanced rank student instructors there with you every step of the way.

I found Master Hill and Golden Tiger Tae Kwon Do after five years of searching for a martial arts school in Orlando. While there are many schools in the Orlando area, none were what I wanted. I sought a school that was welcoming of all students regardless of age, body type, or physical limitations, as well as an instructor who could give personalized training to that diverse group of students. More than that, though, I wanted an instructor who could take my previous years of traditional and Olympic-style Tae Kwon Do and make them useful, while challenging me to become better. I wanted more than someone being okay with sloppy technique and passing anyone who is willing to pay along to the next belt.

Master Hill offers a unique structure by incorporating Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do, and his other martial arts training as well as self-defense. He also has the knowledge and patience to train groups and individuals, usually breaking the class into smaller groups so to better hone specific skills or techniques. He takes a great amount of pride in his students and his school by doing more for his students than just teaching martial arts. He serves as a mentor to many of the students and has a very open door policy for anything that could be bothering a student. He can be our best friend, our biggest champion, and our instructor all at once.

Master Hill was able to build upon my martial arts background and, I believe, make me a better technical competitor, a better fighter, and get my physical health back to a place it hadn't been in years. This is not the kind of school where you will become a black belt overnight. You will be expected to work and sweat (and maybe feel some pain, too) to earn the next belt, but I believe those who are looking for the best that Orlando has to offer, owe it to themselves to at least watch a couple classes before going anywhere else.
