The instructors have a significant level of skill and experience, which is only achieved after years of dedicated practice and
assessment. Skill aside, they have a welcoming and approachable demeanor and foster a supportive learning environment.
They not only cultivate a sense of camaraderie within the studio, but also encourage students to ask questions, seek guidance, and ultimately grow both physically and mentally on their martial arts journey. The instructors display clear communication, which is essential for teaching effectively. They articulate concepts and techniques clearly, making them easy for the students to understand and replicate.
For many children like my son, learning TKD can be challenging, and progress may be slow at times. Still, all the instructors are patient, understand, and are willing to work with students at their own pace, providing encouragement and support along the way. Moreover, every student is different- with unique learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses. They adapt teaching methods to accommodate the needs of the individual students, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn and improve. This is evident especially in the “Neuro Nijas” Class, that the studio provides, where the population of the class is comprised of students with various types of exceptional learners.

This is a wonderful family owned business! From my very first phone call with Ms. Betty, she was sweet, kind and informative. We started with a Lil Ninjas trial and transitioned into regular Lil Ninja classes. Jazzercise is a great workout, and it is so much fun! The instructors are wonderful!! Modifications (high impact/low impact) are always given to accommodate any fitness level. Every workout is different, so it is never boring!

We love KLT! Our two boys (5 & 7) are taking taekwondo lessons here and they both adore it. The instructors are all professional, well-trained to work with kids, and make the learning fun. They also do a nice job of teaching manners and self-discipline.

Icing on the cake, they saved me when my son’s 5th birthday party was threatened by poor weather. At the last minute, Betty helped us pull together a blast of a party at KLT that my son and his friends enjoyed arguably even more than our original plan. They kept the kids engaged with an obstacle course, games, and taekwondo! My son learned to break thin wooden boards for his birthday (something I thought was impossible for a 5yr old) and they helped him cut his cake with a saber sword!

Killearn Lakes Taekwondo is spectacular place with family-oriented vision! My daughter Aarya joined KLTD for tryout session as extracurricular activity, she immediately fell in love with the place. She excelled in Taekwondo from beginning and progressed all the way to the Black belt. We had a great experience with professional instructors and Marky's family who were very understanding, accommodating, encouraging and always welcome you with a smile. We love Killearn Lakes TaeKwonDo! My sister earned her Black belt with them when they opened 15-16 years ago. Now my son is about to test for green belt in the first group of their Neuro ninjas program! Great people then and great people now. The neuro ninjas program is amazing. Ms. Whittaker and both Master Markeys (and helpers) are amazing at balancing fun with routine and discipline for kids who may struggle to keep up with neurotypical lessons. My son even had his last birthday party there and the kids all had a blast!

KLTKD gives structure to my days. I take Jazzercise (11 classes per week), plus fitness classes - yoga twice a week, Pilates once a week and Unconventional Exercise twice a week. Having morning as well as evening classes is perfect plus four classes over the weekend keeps me busy as well!!! I love KLTKD!!! This will be unlike any review I've ever written - mostly because I don't know how to describe it when people reach into your heart as a mother and show you happiness that you didn't know was possible. My son does not speak; he has difficulties following simple instructions; he is easily overstimulated and requires constant and repetitious demonstration to learn something new. He has difficulty with fine motor tasks and complex motor movements. He cries and runs at inappropriate times and for reasons no one truly knows. But none of this prevented him from learning taekwondo at Killearn Lakes TaeKwonDo. Do you want to know why? One reason - the PEOPLE. Anyone can open a business, hire skilled employees, equip a building and provide a service. What this place - what its PEOPLE - do for my son, my family, and this community is beyond what words are able to express. Their ambition, their dedication, their kind and caring hearts; and most importantly, their ability to see my son and other kids like him as not only CAPABLE, but also WORTHY of the full and uncompromised experience of the physical arts is nothing short of a miracle.
When you live a life of therapy sessions instead of baseball practice; doctors visits instead play dates; traveling for specialty hospitals instead of vacations; the victories in life look very different: it's the little things that mean the most. Here, they see the little things - and in turn, I get to see my boy be treated just like any other kid - who has all the same potential to be great, but who people rarely see as anything but broken. EVERY SINGLE PERSON who we have come in contact with here sees him as the amazing person I, as his mother, know he truly is. Someone who can find joy in the same things we all do - if only given the chance and seen as equal as everyone else, despite the obvious challenges. To you it may look like patience; adaptation; strategy; and accommodation. But they didn't just create a program to cater to certain individuals - they made a safe place for my son to be himself AND be successful no matter what the stripe color he's working towards, or the belt color that comes next. You can't TEACH people how to reach children like that - it has to be a part of their heart and soul...and we found it on the mat at Killearn Lakes TaeKwonDo. I will forever be indebted to our family at KLT for bringing this mother the joys I never thought possible - and showing the rest of us that they see no barriers - only opportunities.

My teenage niece started Taekwondo unwillingly in summer 2023. Literally, she loathed the very thought of participating mostly because she feared failing at it and being embarrassed publicly. Now, a year later, her confidence has greatly improved, and so has her social and self-defense skills. She says taekwondo has given her a sense of empowerment and balance that she desperately needed. Killearn Lakes TaeKwonDo is absolutely phenomenal. All three of my kids (one high school, one middle school, and one elementary) are students there. The instructors meet each student where he or she is and encourage all of them to work hard and learn new things. The students are taught to support and encourage one another as well. I started taekwondo because my 2 grandsons were doing it and I thought it would give us a common goal. The oldest got his black belt and the younger one was right behind him but they decided to pursue basketball and flag football instead. I kept going. The instructors are all so positive and encouraging and I’ve met some amazing other students. Now almost 2 years later I’ll be testing for my black belt in December! From the moment we walked through the doors day one, we were pleasantly greeted and attended to (I am sure we looked like a deer in headlights being first time martial arts attendees - LOL). We have been coming to Killearn Lakes Taekwondo for over a year now and absolutely love it. They allow you to start off in a trial period to see if you like it, and better yet there is no contract required. If your kids want to take a break and play another sport you can simply tell them to put a hold on the account and they will do that, so the flexibility is definitely built into the experience. We however never needed to do that but it’s nice to know we have the option. They work with your kids and teach them real life skills and discipline from the very young age of four. My kid loves it and enjoys going twice a week. As the young kids (little ninjas) get to the big kids side of the building they even emphasize good grades as a requirement which is cool. If you’re looking for a friendly, family oriented environment that genuinely loves kids and wants to see kids receive skills and be successful this is a wonderful place to be. We have two young children who attend classes here. The staff and instructors are some of the kindest, most patient people while also teaching the tenants of Taekwondo, discipline, and respect. Our kids have each been able to make friends within their cohort, be included, and feel proud of themselves. We had my daughter's sixth birthday party at Killearn Lakes TaeKwonDo and it was exactly what she hoped for. They had an obstacle course, TaeKwonDo lesson, dodge ball, then snacks and cake. My daughter got to break boards for her friends and cut her cake with sword, her day was made! The team helped set up, entertained the kids for the full 1.5 hr and were so kind and attentive. Our girls decided a few years ago they wanted to try out Takwando after being active in dance and gymnastics since they were 3. My husband and I did not think they would stay involved as long as they did. With the help of all the Amazing instructors our girls earned their black belts with dedication and determination. Killearn Lakes Taekwondo (KLTKD) is a factastic place! I have the chance to be both a student and a parent of a student at this school currently. In my experience as a student and watching my daughter participate in their program, the instructors are terrific. They genuinely care about their students and their students' success. They work hard to explain things in a clear and age-appropriate manner and work with students to make sure they understand concepts and skills.

The program is very well structured so that it challenges students while given them attainable goals. Each belt level is broken down by skills so that students can focus and know what they need to work on to earn their next belt. For those students in the juciors and teens program,, KLTKD) also works to make sure that students are performing well academically., thereby demonstrating their care for their students and their well-being.

I really just cannot say enough about the instructors and owners of KLTKD. They are a fantastic, friendly, and knowledgeable group of people who are a joy to be around. From Mrs. Betty's warm greetings whenever you walk in the front door to the instructors teaching your (or your child's) class, there is a very welcoming feeling at this school.

Also, as a blind student myself, I have been encouraged and awestruck by the creativity, inventiveness, and the dedication that the owners and staff have shown in making sure that I could participate and be successful. They work very hard to make the programs accessable to anyone and everyone willing to put in the effort. For the two and a half years that I have been a student, I have seen a school and a program that is very inclusive and adaptive while maintaining a rigor that has challenged me to meet the same standards as every other student while allowing for my special needs.

I have enjoyed my two and half years at KLTKD and look forward to many more years learning and having fun here. When we moved to Tallahassee from Southern California a little over a year ago our six-year-old Jack had not been able to socialize much due to the pandemic. He was a little nervous and unsure of himself in groups. We decided to enroll him in Killearn Lakes TaeKwonDo. It was the best decision that we could make. Many days I walked in with tears in my eyes, due to the challenges we faced with my son. We had an unfortunate event with my service truck catching on fire and the yoga staff and students at Killearn Lakes were so helpful running around trying to find the fire extinguisher (it was comical...now) We were able to get the fire out with minimal damage.
