LA Fitness Review: Disappointing Customer Service and Misleading Policies

I recently visited LA Fitness to take advantage of their 3-day free pass offer, and what should have been a straightforward experience turned into a frustrating ordeal due to poor customer service and inconsistent policy enforcement.
Upon arrival, I was surprised when the front desk staff demanded a state-issued ID to redeem the pass. They claimed this requirement was stated in the confirmation email I received, but when I pointed out that it wasn’t mentioned, they promised to show me. Instead, they abruptly shifted attention to other customers, leaving me waiting and feeling ignored.
After some back-and-forth, we checked the LA Fitness website together, and unsurprisingly, there was no mention of this specific State issue ID requirement. Undeterred, the staff member called a colleague, who repeated the same unfounded claim, insisting it was “company policy.” When I politely asked to see the policy in writing, they couldn’t produce it, neither refer to it verbally.
Things escalated when they tried to involve the manager, Darren, who was allegedly “on the phone” and unavailable. From what I could see, he appeared to be scrolling on his device rather than engaged in a call. To cap it off, the original employee vaguely pointed to a section about “other restrictions” as justification, which didn’t hold up under scrutiny—I even had to explain the basic meaning of “restrictions” to them, but common sense seemed in short supply.
As I was leaving, I noticed a plaque near the front door clearly stating a requirement for a “government” issued ID, not specifically a “state” one. When I pointed this out, the staff responded impolitely and asked me to leave. I complied, as there’s no fixing that level of incompetence.
Overall, this location desperately needs better training for its employees on customer handling, policy clarity, and basic professionalism. If you’re considering LA Fitness, I recommend double-checking all requirements in advance and perhaps visiting a different gym altogether. Very disappointing—zero stars for service if I could. Certainly will never be member...

It’s a good gym overall. The staff are friendly and helpful.

The worst thing about this gym is Rachel she is rude and condescending and just an overall bully mocking and belittling people, even to the point of laughing at my sick father. I just come there to work out here our interactions should have never been that long.

I want to make an observation about this gym. I train with my wife, and it's embarrassing to see several men training without shirts in the gym! I asked the attendant and she told me it's not a problem... since it's not just men who train there, they train young women and even teenagers... I think you need to review this because soon there will be people training in swimming trunks... absurd!

I'm about to leave this gym in Deerfield. For the third time, the dark-skinned man interrupted my training with my son. This person doesn't know how to deal with customers. He is extremely rude and inconvenient. I pay for the guest, which is sometimes mine and sometimes my son... he didn't want to let my son in and made us go through great embarrassment and shame. I think I'm going to cancel my account and I don't recommend this gym to anyone...

LA fitness has everything you can want in the gym It’s just not bougie if you’re looking for a great workout with nice machines and plenty of space. This will definitely work for you. It’s clean. It’s comfortable as a nice assortment of classes between strength and spin and yoga. The instructors are excellent, and the staff is very nice

Nice big open pool. Wide spaced gym with lots of machines. Basketball court. Parking is plentiful but front entrance is hard to find. Machines are a bit old but it was fine on a Saturday afternoon.

All staff are friendly. Gym was clean. I went today to see a woman completely NUDE in the sauna. So uncomfortable definitely should be a sign. I couldn’t even use the sauna because of how uncomfortable it made me feel. Respect others and the public space!!

This location and what it has to offer checks all of the boxes for me with little exception. I must also say that for years Jaime at the front desk has always been punctual and welcoming to everyone. She is professional, attentive and genuinely concerned about the members and their workout experience. On a personal level she has a great sense of humor and is easy to talk to. Terrible, misleading advertising.
They send you an email with the offer and prices. You agree, sign up, make the payment, become a member, and when you arrive at the unit, they tell you that the plan you requested doesn't exist for that unit and that the prices are much higher.

I was genuinely considering joining LA Fitness over Athletica, but my experience with the staff completely changed my mind. I encountered someone I believe to be the manager, Andres or Andrew and unfortunately, the interaction was extremely unpleasant. He was dismissive, unprofessional, and lacked the basic courtesy you’d expect from someone in a leadership role at a gym. First impressions matter, especially when someone is deciding where to commit their time and money. Sadly, Andres made that decision easy—but not in LA Fitness’s favor. Based on how I was treated, I won’t be signing up here, and I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

If this is how the management treats potential new members, I can only imagine how current members feel. Disappointing experience.

The gym itself needs some help with the workout machines, in comparison with the pompano location.

The big plus in the Deerfield location is Jaime at the front desk. She always greets you with a smile. She is always pleasant and makes you feel welcome.

Every day I'm more disappointed and angry. The water areas, the pool, sauna, and jacuzzi are always damaged or under repair, and the response is always... they'll be fine tomorrow. LA Fitness in east Deerfield Beach needs to be updated. The machines are antiquated most don't work properly. The one asset the gym has is Jamie. She meets everyone with a smile and makes sure everyone is welcome with a GOOD MORNING. Jamie is quite entertaining she makes you laugh which gives you a good start to your day. When leaving she makes sure to wish you a happy day. If you need help with something she goes out of her way to help. Jamie keeps me coming back.

There are more than one LA Fitness clubs that are not that much further than Deerfield but they don’t have Jamie. Update 5/8/25: I'd trained at LA for 6 months-Nov-May, this place offers everything you need to get in great shape. I get there at 5AM, it's not crowded, so I can't speak to working out at other times. The machines are always working, anything broke is fixed with in a day or so. Locker rooms are clean, Pool, Sauna and Hot tub great. Shout out to Jamie, 5am desk person. She is always bubbly, happy and encouraging. All the staff are helpful, but Jamie goes above and beyond. Ya, there are numerous other gyms to workout at, but for the price, locations, LA Fitness is spot on. Great value, friendly staff. Good equipment. Highly recommend

Visiting friends and needed a gym.nearby. LA Fitness has everything you need for a week of working out while on vacation. Rocked the treadmill first...they are all on they second floor. Then off to the extensive free weights and trenght machines
They even have basketball court. Didn't use yet but awesome it's there. Staff was super friendly and cost for day workout is $20 each day. Definitely be back tommorow!

No stars! First I will like to mention been an LA Fitness member for several years and have been absent for two years and I still paid my membership. I returned and unfortunately can’t workout bc of my chronic bronchial asthma condition, no one understands and personal life crisis I am experiencing right now and a matter of life and death for me. I did use the Suana room that’s in desperate need of renovation. I appreciate they let me give myself respiratory breathing treatments etc and in 2 months, I don’t appreciate the way I have been discriminated by some other members, been robbed 5x and the security guard harassed me for no reason and outside the gym! They have made up so many lies abt me, none are true! They are not my holy God Yeshuah on holy mountain of Israel to judge! I have attended many gyms like Lady of America, planet fitness etc: have never experienced wht I have now dealing w overdramatic troublemakers, liars, thieves , discrimination and unprofessionalism! I walk in to try the gym. I find a 7 day free pass on the desk and ask how I can apply to use that to try out the gym. Lady behind the desk sends me to the sales manager and he tells me I need to pay $20 for the day. When I ask about the 7 day pass he says those were for an event. Please BE CAREFUL when you are making a membership because it seems like lying to get you to sign up is a norm here.

I went in about the membership because of the Kids Klub (the day care they give while you workout). When I spoke to a lady in this location, she told me that they don’t have one but I can go into any location that has a Kids Klub and use it because it is included in the membership. Therefore I signed up and what a mistake it was. When I went to the Pompano location, the girl there explained to me that in the Deerfield location they did not explain correctly. The Kids Klub was an added fee of $20 a month plus $10 per child when I want to use it. So basically I would end up paying $50 a month since I have two kids plus $20 every time I want to use it. I was so upset because the lady here in Deerfield lied so I can sign up. When I went in to cancel, they said they would but it never happened. I had to go in AGAIN and the guy gave me a number to call and cancel. Finally it was canceled but I ended up paying $100 for a sign up, $32 for the month, and $59 for an annual fee just to go in ONCE. What a joke. I filed a complaint and sent an email and never heard back.

I suggest go somewhere where they don’t have lies as a policy norm and where they are competent enough to know what the membership includes.

Be careful! If I could put 0 I would. So I went to the gym, and one day my membership was cancelled. As it turned out, my husband cancelled my membership without my permission. I can't believe how the gym could allow this. How could anyone else cancel my membership. I asked for them to be returned, but they told me that now I have to pay a sign fee again. I opened a promotion and three more people signed up with me, they were left. But mine was cancelled. I can't believe it. I started going here about a year ago after being at a different one. I really love how friendly the staff is and it’s pretty clean overall. The only reason I’m giving it a 4 is because the weight rack is a mess, random weights are always on the floor even when I come in the morning. I recently cancelled my membership because I’m moving to another part of Florida but I did enjoy my time here. If only someone would fix the weight rack and enforce weights being put back or perhaps have your night crew do their job.

Disappointing Experience at LA Fitness – Misleading Pricing & Terrible Customer Service

I had a frustrating experience with LA Fitness that I feel needs to be shared. I spoke with a sales associate named Gussie (SP?) over the phone, who quoted me a specific price for a membership and encouraged me to come in to finalize the deal. After making the trip to the gym, she told me that she made a mistake and could not honor the price she had quoted and that the actual cost would be more than twice the quote I was given. This felt like a clear attempt to mislead me into coming to the gym, only to be hit with a much higher price once I was there.

To make matters worse, when I spoke to her supervisor Rachel, she was demeaning and did not follow through with actions she told me she would take. I even tried to reach out to an executive named Taylor MacArthur via both email and LinkedIn, but received no response—crickets. It’s incredibly frustrating that LA Fitness would allow this kind of behavior, especially when a quote is given. I strongly believe that when a price is quoted by a company representative, it should be honored.

This experience has been a huge disappointment, and I would caution anyone considering joining LA Fitness to be wary of their practices.

I’ve been coming here for close to 6 months.
It is indeed the cleanest LA fitness I’ve worked out at . And I’ve been to several in multiple states. That was my biggest thing prior to joining, I noted the reviews for other locations and how dirty they were. Staff here is friendly. Yes there are times shortly after peak where weights will be scattered but the team does a good job of walking around and making sure things go back to where they belong.

I recently joined this LA fitness location because I moved and was incredibly disappointed by the condition of the machines. Many of them were old and rusty, making me question their safety and effectiveness. It was clear that maintenance was lacking, as some machines were even out of order.

I would not recommend this gym to anyone looking for a clean and well-maintained facility. It was clear that the management did not prioritize the upkeep of the equipment. I will not be returning to this location.

This spot is super convenient, right off Federal Highway, with plenty of parking. It's always spotless too, thanks to a fantastic janitor who keeps everything in top shape. The sauna is spacious, and I really appreciate the hangers right outside—it’s super handy for hanging your towel.
It would also be great if visitors changed the shoes they wear outside before coming into the sauna.

I have been going to this Gym for the last three weeks, just to see how well this place is taking care off.
I am surprised to notice that preventative maintenance is not being done to the equipment, just like the facility in Pompano Beach!

There should be a technician walking or working at the facility to care for the equipment on a daily basis, NOT WHEN A UNIT IS BROKEN than it is being reported and put on a schedule for repair!
Especially if there is ONLY ONE OF THAT KIND!!

Also Gym users especially those using the loose weight equipment are inconsiderate by leaving the heavy round weight on the equipment when they are done with their workout!

I am not a big bodybuilder like them but why not removing the weights of so others can put on what they are comfortably with!

This place is dirty, especially where you walk up the steps to enter the building!!

Although the gym has been renovated within the last several years, it begs for much more improvement. The machines are not taken care of, pins are missing ALL the time, the #s for the weights are worn out, and the dumbbells are spread out ALL OVER THE GYM! It’s so frustrating to have to search the entire gym to find a matching dumbbell!! The staff doesn’t seem to care and rarely does anything about it. I travel for my job, and I can actually say this location is the MOST unorganized gym in ALL my travels. Seems like the clientele here exhibits NO respect for their fellow gym members! We are ONLY members because it’s the closest gym to our home. But we beg for something better…

A little bit different from other la fitnresses. If you come by car, there is a garage below the gym. Then search for elevator and gym is on first floor.
Spacious, nice, a lot of people, and a lot of well built people. Can say only good things about this place.

I have been using this gym for over 10 years. It is CURRENTLY a nice gym. Like every gym in America that MAY change when management changes. Of course, there are some people at LA Fitness, and every other gym that cannot conceive of doing their laundry or common gym etiquette regarding personal hygiene. There is nothing management can do about that.

La fitness is great this is the location I signed up with I've been coming here for some years. I like the renovations they made. There's still a lot of old equipment that needs to be replaced. The bathroom is old falling apart and to small.

Acredito que o único pré requisito para trabalhar naquele local, é saber ler. E o atendimento a estrangeiros é pior ainda. Cuidado, pois se você realizar um pagamento a maior, seu troco é retido, e utilizam para compensar débitos futuros. E são irredutíveis, se apropriando do seu direito. Pode virar caso de polícia. Outro detalhe, convém ficar atento a uma taxa anual de manutenção, que é cobrada 14 dias após sua matrícula, e os funcionários não deixam isso transparente. Eles agem como se não soubessem de nada. Pessoal muito mal instruído.

Everytime I walk into this gym I feel like walking right out. First doesn’t matter what time of the day you go it’s always packed! On my day off I went at 2 pm where most people should be working but no it was packed! There were some weights upstairs but everyday I walk in it seems like people just ate the weights that are supposed to be upstairs and them people look at me like I’m crazy for grabbing some dumbbells to work out upstairs. I’m sorry that I don’t like to workout in front of a mirror surrounded by 20+ people

1. LA fitness need to enforce a time limit with the machines. There's too many customers that hug the machines for too long especially in the evening time. Just had an encounter with a gentleman that was hugging a machine when I asked him how many more sets he got he said 4. I waited and he got frustrated saying "he takes long breaks in between sets" he literally took between 5-7 minutes breaks in between sets.
2. There's signs on some machines that say "scheduled for service" for about a year now and still not fixed.

I love la fitness but this one needs some work the men's lockers all need to be renovated and half the TV's are broken by the cardio equipment. The good news is they renevated the floor cus that's so important. They did get some new equipment but some of these other issues I mention prevent them from getting more then 3 stars from me.

Beware of signing a contract with this gym, READ CAREFULLY!!! and don't let them rush you. They advertise an Initiation fee of $99, plus monthly plan of either $39 or $49. During signing no one ever mentioned an additional Annual fee of $150, and it is also not published on their website, so they play this game of bait and switch.

Horrible gym, always a mess, it’s a circus. They don’t even provide you paper towels anymore. They close early at 10. It’s not even worth it anymore.
Planet fitness gives you all the towels you want and is 24 hours and is way cleaner and organized than this place. For a quarter of the price.
