As a recent transplant to Florida I was looking for a gym to train Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at so I did my research of the area. I am truly elated that I found Martin Academy. Sifu LaVonne, Coach Ted, Coach Bruce, and Coach Mike are all around amazing human beings. They are beyond kind, knowledgeable, encouraging, and patient (I think I've seen rocks with better motor skills than I have). Training here is truly the highpoint of my day, and I learn just as much from the instructors as I do from my fellow students. It is truly a family atmosphere and I'm extremely fortunate that I have been welcomed into it with open arms. I could not ask for a better place to train. Also Ms. Maddy might be one of the best dogs on the planet, and seeing her at the gym just makes it that much better. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

I miss going here! I randomly decided to go here a few years ago and really enjoyed my time here Sifu Martin is really cool her dog is awesome and her story is so cool! I really enjoyed the bond I created with her! If I remember right the Thai boxing instructor was josh and I trained with a Bruce also. This place is really awesome and just opened my eyes and mind and confidence in alot of regards. I would highly recommend this faculty

The children and young adult classes are amazing. There's plenty of adult classes offered as well. A wide variety of options, and evening classes make it convenient to accommodate work schedules.

I just want to go on record to say, if your looking for the right school then just stop here. I needed to give my 18 year old daughter a self defense class before college and are very happy with this school. Not only did it boost her confidence but it made her able to handle her self in case of what if. This school is well established and are able to take care of any needs one may have. 5 stars are even a little low.

This was about five years ago, but my daughter was being bullied at school, so I called around and was so impressed with Sifu LaVonne, we started my child's training there. This is an exceptional school that taught my child basic self defense skills and increased her confidence in so many ways. I cannot recommend this school enough. LaVonne truly loves and cares for every child there and the instructors that she employs are top notch and amazing with the kids. I wish my child would have continued, but like all kids growing up, she wanted to pursue other interests. I miss LaVonne and this school!

I personally have the opportunity to visit a lot of martial art schools around the United States due to my job. I see a lot of fly-by-night schools that pop up on this corner and that corner. A lot of them will use the illusion of being a “Pro Fighter” as grounds for teaching you self-defense. Is my opinion that if you’re looking for a solid self-defense school you want to find someone who has at least 15 to 20 years experience in the martial arts with a solid background and strong credentials.

LaVonne Martin on Martin Martial Arts Academy is just need it before mentioned. I have known her personally for many years and have witnessed her thirst for knowledge and pursuit of her continuing education firsthand. She is a teacher’s teacher with training under some of the most world-renowned martial arts out there today. I highly recommend her and her academy if you were looking for real-world training and self-defense answers that will work in a realistic situation.
