I travel all over Florida and train at different locations. 1580 McMullen Booth rd in Clearwater is always the cleanest gym. It’s beyond clean. Some of the Planet Fitness gyms across the state are not always clean.
This one deserves a big shout out because it’s not easy to keep up the cleanliness.

I came to try Planet Fitness in this location, but the supervisor Parker didn't even let me in to look around the gym, she was rude, she said get out of here or pay five dollars, although I have a membership, unfortunately I only had cash, they refused to accept it. She spoke very rudely. Hamila showed me the door, didn't even try to be polite.

Anything brand new is great when this PF (1580 McMullen) first opened.. Its been well over a year and things start breaking down. Some of the TREADMILL screens can't be set up for my walking. The screen blinks on and off jittery-like, so I go to another machine. The LEG PRESS in the yellow, 30 minute room, has been down for months. So that leaves just -1- in the general workout area. If you can't get parts, switch it for another machine that works. This PF has a kabillion Treadmills. They are never, ever, all used, even at its peak time. Trade out some of those treadmills for more FLY machines and more RECUMBENT machines. Talk to the Manager to know what is needed, what is popular. He'll know best since he is there daily and talks to people. All in all though, its still a great asset for me for my health to come to PF. Let's get some of these things taken care of and bring it back to how it was when it first opened.

Tried for a second time to access the gym with my family. They are members, I am not. Just wanted to pay for the daily use of the gym because I already have a membership at another chain that is more convenient for me. There is no way to pay the daily fee over the counter and no way to get a guess pass over the counter. Each of these requires a phone. The clerks were unhelpful as well. Just wanted to workout with the family and was ready to pay with cash or card but unable to do that without downloading the PF app and registering. Far too difficult. Will continue to support any other gym besides this one.

I’ve been a loyal member of this gym for over three years, attending five times a week and always appreciating the staff and facilities—until now.

On August 1st, 2025, at around 11 a.m., I had a deeply disappointing encounter with a manager named Courtney at the Clearwater location. Earlier that morning, Courtney himself checked me in. About an hour later, I let both him and another employee, Calvin, know I was stepping outside briefly to grab my phone charger from my car. Calvin acknowledged me, and I returned in under a minute.

When I came back in, Courtney abruptly shouted “Hey you, you need to sign in” in a loud and condescending tone. I explained I’d already signed in earlier, and my phone had died—hence the quick trip outside. As I began to provide my last name for confirmation, Courtney suddenly told me to leave and said I was “done for today.”

Calvin tried to intervene and explain the situation, confirming I was signed in and had only stepped out briefly. Despite that, Courtney doubled down and told me he "didn't care," even threatening to call the police if I didn’t leave immediately.

I left feeling shocked, embarrassed, and deeply uncomfortable. This kind of aggressive behavior is absolutely unacceptable—especially from someone in a leadership position. Sadly, this isn’t the first time Courtney has created an unwelcoming atmosphere at this gym.

I hope the management team takes this seriously and ensures proper customer service training is provided, because no member should be made to feel like this.

Awesome facility to work out at. Been attending Planet Fitness for around 7 years and have worked out in many different locations as well as in different states. The Southpark Mall Planet Fitness location in Colonial Heights is very nice, kept clean, and there’s a great staff of people working there. It’s not 24 hrs every single day, so ya might wanna check the times before attending if you’re planning to work out during the weekend. Nice workout facility though, and definitely worth 5 stars! 🙂👍

First, it's difficult for me to give 5 stars to a gym... specifically because I hate gyms! So you must understand that if I would give a 5 star it would be to this facility. It has everything that won't let me quit!
I have been coming here since Jan 22, 2025, five days a week. I have to pat myself on the back because it's the longest I have ever faithfully gone to any exercise facility. Besides the perks that I'm sure you have already heard about in their own words, I have to say that the staff have treated this 66 year old like a valued member. Love y'all, but Hannah and Will are my favorites because from day one they have genuinely been kind to me. Now along the way Parker and I have become very friendly and she is one of my secret workout encouragers; thanks Parker!
I am mainly writing this review because I came to PF with a goal of trying not to quit on myself (for the first time in my life with physical fitness) and for 4 months Braunze (the PF personal trainer) has made me believe in me. Braunze began our first session with all the personal questions one should ask to ensure they properly provide training that would be most beneficial to the client. Then he informed me that we would be doing conditioning training to assess my strengths and weaknesses. Perfect... hadn't received that instruction before. So, he start me with 10 minute warm-ups daily and over the last 4 months he has conditioned my body; paid very close attention to my form with each exercise; and explained (as necessary) any modifications I needed to make to ensure I got the most out of the torture. He has been very skillful in not overworking me and he has been very knowledgeable of muscle activity, organ function, quads, core, biceps, etc. Giving me an education in how not to overwork any of them but also pushes me a little bit harder when he realizes I can do more. I watch him assist other members and offer advice when it appears someone is doing something that can cause more harm than good. I know Braunze is available M-F for all of us, but please don't sign up for him when I'm there cause we will have to toss a coin to see who gets trained... and if I have learned anything about him, over these months, it's that he will try to give his attention to both of us!
One last thing, I know every trainer uses their own methods to train; but so does every doctor... trust him, he will make you want to return again and again. Thanks PF for hiring such a compassionate, dedicated, and kind young man. See you M-F!

Ah, Planet Fitness—notorious for making it as hard as possible to leave. I had my girlfriend bring in my cancellation letter on 4/13, ahead of my renewal date on 4/16. You’d think that would be enough, right? Wrong.

I just got an email saying my cancellation won’t be effective until 4/16 (the day they charge me again, of course), and that my membership will stay active until 5/16. So in other words: “Thanks for canceling, but we’re still taking one more payment because… policy.”

It’s wild that a company can receive your cancellation before the billing date and still process it as if you didn’t cancel at all. But hey, Planet Fitness is notorious for this kind of thing, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

If you’re thinking about joining, just remember: signing up is easy. Leaving? Not so much.

I would give this Planet Fitness 10 stars if I could, especially the trainer Braunze. We have been going to Planet Fitness for 2 months and I am actually enjoying going to the gym! Took my first class with Braunze today which I highly recommend and wish I had done sooner. After discussing my goals, he taught me about getting a proper routine, guided me on equipment I have not used before, showed me great stretches, and even discussed diet. He also walked me through the Planet Fitness app. Braunze is knowledgeable, patient, professional, and such a great resource! I signed up for another of Braunze's classes tomorrow!
We have gone to this Planet Fitness at all kinds of different hours and never waited for equipment. Plus this gym is clean! I have seen another trainer walking the floor and cleaning multiple times while I have been there. Even the bathrooms are spotless.
The staff at Planet Fitness from the greeting when you walk in, the care that is placed on the facility, and the excellent trainer I met today make this 5 star review easy to write.

This gym is very well maintained. Staff does a great job cleaning and making sure everything is repaired. It is rare that a machine is broken for more than a day before it is repaired. They make sure there are no rips in the padding on the equipment as well.

Personally, I wish they had a few more pieces of equipment that the gym is lacking. It is very apparent they have room to add this additional equipment. Hopefully over time as membership picks up they add this additional equipment.

This has to be the cleanest facility I've worked out in. There is staff cleaning and they've successfully built a culture where patrons clean equipment after they're done using it. Yesterday my husband and I went to Planet Fitness to check and see if they accepted our insurance. Kevin and Parker were wonderful!! They were friendly and very welcoming! The place was clean and they greeted everyone who walked in.
Today I had my New Member Orientation & Design Your Own Program with Braunze!! Honestly, I didn't know what to expect since I hadn't done this before. He was professional, knowledgeable, patient, and answered my questions without making me feel rushed. He thoroughly explained the fitness sessions along with showing me how to work the machines in the different areas. I came away feeling confident with his guidance I can obtain my goals! I've had gym memberships since 1976 and I judge them on: CLEANLINESS - This is one of the cleanest, well cared for gyms I've seen. CONDITION OF EQUIPMENT - Again, excellent. This place is trash. I tried to cancel my membership in March. I sent a certified letter to cancel my membership. I had a past due balance so they would not cancel my membership. The manager says he tried to call me twice. He left no message and all of a sudden I am charged $179 dollar in June!!!! I only owed $80 in March. What a scam. I'd advise anyone to not sign up because they will definitely screw you over. The gym isn't wonderful.

Right across the street from the Pinellas county ASPCA. Right by a vets office Across the shopping complex from Publix situated in a place where it’s easy to get in and out. Plenty of parking. Staff is friendly and helpful.

This is one of the best Planet Fitness that I have been into. New and beautiful, the layout is great even when its busy everything is spaced out nice. The spa amenities are worth the Black card membership price alone. Zero gravity massage chairs, New Total body machine. The other day I forgot my headphones and they have an awesome app (Rockbot) that let's everyone be the DJ and pick your very own songs!

music here is intolerable. not only the choice of music but the volume is SO LOUD! only way to drown it out is blasting your headphones on full volume and that’s exhausting. hate to say it but i will be canceling my membership over this.

Comment to owner: I have mentioned it to the staff and they pick and choose the rules. some agree to turn it down others lie and say they have no control over the music or volume. Maybe YOU should talk to management. I am not the only one to complain i’ve talked to several members who changed gyms because this is a consistent problem

Reply made absolutely no sense Mr owner since the pants I was wearing were denim material very lightweight no grommets no zipper they were long shorts. I don't know how my lightweight denim pants could do any more damage than any other type of cotton pants. I have been wearing these same pants to multiple Planet Fitness all across the state and not one person was so rude as to tell me I could not be in the establishment. I will never go to Clearwater again and I think the behavior and what the reviews says that many others feel the same way. I understand about the shoes and I had a pair in my bag if he had bothered to comment he just said I had flip flops and denim pants on I couldn't be there well you lost me as a customer and I will never never say anything good about Clearwater Planet Fitness I think you're a bunch of snobs congratulations!
The gentleman waited until after I had done entire check-in commented been followed to be told go away I was not welcomed thank you I will stick to my side of the track even though I must admit my address is Clearwater. I will tell everybody who I ever meet in a Planet Fitness about how terrible Clearwater is and hope someday you go belly up since I know you're a franchise congratulations as I said before for how rude you could treat a person especially someone of my age I'm newly out of a wheelchair and working out of physical therapy

This is a nice location unfortunately management refuses to address the problems even when I brought the issues to management's attention. On this particular day, 3 different people had 3 different sets of weights they were hogging while another guy loudly sung out loud his F-bombs and other curse words. I know the staff can hear this guyI. I wouldn't even allow my 14 year old son to work out near the guy because of how loud and offensive he was being. They claim you can't have phone calls on the gym floor, but every time I come here there are people holding conversations via speaker phone on the machines. It is so annoying. One guy that is there almost every time I come uses 2 benches and grabs the only barbells of certain weights, forcing myself and another member to hunt it down and ask the guy to use it. Today the manager said he would handle the problems, however, he never left from behind the front desk. This wasn't the first time employees said they would handle an issue and were obviously too worried about offending someone by actually addressing it. Planet Fitness is becoming a circus, it's probably time to fork up some extra money at a different gym for a better environment. It's just not worth the savings when all I experience is inconsideration by members that the staff refuse to address.

Amazing staff, the Christmas decorations are so great and add a comfortable vibe, as did the Halloween decorations. Maggie did a great job. Amazing music selections that keep things in a variety, not your same bland gym playlist that forces you to wear headphones. I can actually workout without them some days here!
