I was searching for a martial arts school that would take my 3 year old son. He is very active and curious about everything. Most schools won't let toddlers join until about 4 years old. This was the place! My son went through a series of test to see if he was ready to join the class. He passed and we immediately signed him up. We love this place. There are no other words that I can use to express my feelings about it. It’s a commitment for both the kids and the family. It’s no small feat to get them to practice twice a week. This fact is often recognized and discussed during class. However, just speaking of what taekwondo has done for my family, I have seen my shy but sociable child truly come out of his shell. He talks to his friends at school about the lessons he learns in taekwondo. He’s learning self discipline and that he is responsible for his actions and the consequences that can come with those choices. These are all things we’re trying to teach at home, but his teachers help him understand too. He’s five! These are big lessons for a five year old to learn, but here he is! - Extra fees for belt exams without informing at the beginning, while paying upfront. No response to email when asked, but they are quick to reach out when offering another long-term commitment.
- No prior notification given when cancelling the appointment before you went there.

Worth every penny! My 8 year old son was shy, struggling with dyslexia, would not raise his voice louder than a whisper on his first day at taekwondo, and a year later he is a different child, transformed completely! At his most recent belt graduation his father and I were in tears as he volunteered to read from the oath in front of everyone and read it with a loud, clear and confident voice! He yelled, kicked and punched with his friends and showed excitement when he received his medal and certificate. There is no amount of thanks or money that we could give pro taekwondo for helping our son find his voice and confidence! He struggled with his right and left all year and the instructors were always patient and kind. They will work with children with exceptionalities (I have a doctorate in special education so I know some of the students had exceptionalities) and do an excellent job. They are firm, fair, and consistent. They also make class so much fun. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Master Somi and all of the instructors at this location of Pro Taekwondo in Gainesville, FL!

Our family was a part of Pro TKD for a little over a year and a half. Our daughter was 8 when we originally signed up after a school fundraiser they offered. It was ok at first, though we really struggled to figure everything out since nothing is really explained. Just pay and show up. There is an enormous amount of pressure put on these kids. Our daughter already struggled with anxiety and the promises of empowering her, didn’t happen. It made it all much worse. Our doctors asked us not to return for her sake. Since then, we’ve just been paying the rest of our 3 yr contract, because there is no out for “preexisting conditions”. They are great at convincing desperate parents that they will help their children but then completely ghost them when they are struggling.

We did not feel that it was worth $170 a MONTH, on top of uniform and brand new equipment prices, while also paying for each belt graduation, until we were already in it for a few months and already locked into a 3 yr contract. When I tried contacting them about paying out our contract and reasons why we weren’t continuing, we never received a response. Thankfully we were able to contact the contract company directly for the answers we were seeking since ProTKD couldn’t be bothered.

Also, a big red flag should have been the entry for a $50 gift card raffle if you left a 5 star review at every graduation.

I cannot say enough about this program and their instructors. My daughter joined when she started second grade. She was diagnosed with severe ADD, as well as two learning “difficulties” (dyslexia and dysgraphia). She struggled with her confidence in every aspect of her life. Her first practice, she cried and protested from the minute we left the house. She did not want to come anymore. Within a few weeks of jointing Pro TKD she absolutely fell in love with this school and the instructors. Every single one of them are absolutely amazing with these kids. My two boys started some training with Pro Taekwondo at Alachua Elementary two days for two weeks for fun, but as soon as the class was coming to end, my two boys wanted to continue with classes. My kid has been training in this school for a while now and I have seen her grow in the process. What I like the most is the sense of community and belonging that my kid has developed, and that she feels safe while in there, physically and mentally. for example, If a kid do not break a board in an exam, they had more opportunities and everybody cheers for them. My son is 5 years old and started two months ago. He is on an IEP for school and one of the biggest things he struggled with was social behavior skills. Prior to joining he was at a 4/10 in that area within his IEP. After just two months in this school and the structure they provide he has jump to mastery level in all area’s within social behavioral skills which is a 8/10. We love Pro Taekwondo! All the teachers are caring and excellent instructors. We have enjoyed watching our boys grow in confidence and skill. The program is great for building self-esteem because every child advances through the belts as long as they put forth their best effort and do what they can with the skills. Belt tests are every 10 weeks, so they're learning to work toward long-term goals. The school offers a parents' night out program every few months, which always focuses on a fun theme. My children, girl (8.5) and boy (7) have been attending the Beginner and White Belt classes at Pro Taekwondo since March of this year. Due to COVID19, we had to take a break from classes and are just now getting back into the routine. I have been thoroughly impressed with Instructor Somi and their entire organization. The kids were unable to attend the online classes but have been very excited to return to the (limited capacity) in-person meetings. Our family has no personal experience with martial arts but we do believe the structure, discipline and confidence-building exercises can only serve to benefit our two children. I especially appreciate the way the instructors focus on positive reinforcement by encouraging the students to complete 'job lists' at home/school demonstrating their ability to complete simple household chores, manage their time and do well in school. The entire program encourages a lot of communication and support and involves the parents, taekwondo instructors and the school/teachers.
