I have been coming here for a little over 5 years. The equipment is just awful, well most of it. They did โupgradeโ some machines that do not work as well and got rid of a lot of good ones. The machines that werenโt upgraded are not maintained very well. Thereโs a leg press thatโs been out of commission for over a month. Thereโs a calf raise seated machine that you cannot adjust because someone shoved something in it to keep it on a singular height setting. The flooring is carpet ๐คฎ in one large area and old cracked matting in another. *Note Iโve tripped on the cracked matting 4+ times. This is the only gym in the Venice area that isnโt a planet fitness or anytime so I guess this is the best we get. The place needs new management or something.

Always a great gym and experience at the venice YMCA. Clean equipment rarely have to wait to use a machine/rack. Staff is friendly and takes good care of the facilities.
And if you have a pool leak or want to remodel/repair your pool and/or hot tub. Contact aquadoctor leak detection based im venice ๐ sorry for the shameless guerilla marketing tactic but i am a proud Y member also.... the Venice Y has a great outdoor pool and very large hot tub always well maintained and staffed with lifeguards. My first job was a YMCA lifeguard in texas ;)

For a gym that is quite busy 24/7 they have very limited machines which makes for a terrible wait. Trying to get on a machine is like fighting for your life. Some Personal Trainers are also not friendly and will tell you that you canโt use a machine because they are using it when they are clearly not on it.

Wonderful place for anyones fitness journey. Friendly and professional staff and everything is always well organized and clean. I love the sauna and spa I was sold on this place when I heard they had them. So many classes you can take and special events for kids. I signed up my whole family. I see a few complainers about this top quality YMCA. I think many "older" folks are looking for how much to get for free. Why not leave a few dollars to support the excellent effort made by staff there for a healthy experience for Adults and upcoming youth groups. This is one of the best YMCA facilities in the nation. Be a giver, not a taker.

Called Venice YMCA today, 5 times no answer. Was told whirlpool would be fixed Wed. Wrong, went in today and is still down. Hot sauna, was down a month. Inquired at desk, no one knows anything. I ran a business 40 years. Poorly run operation, which is too bad. Will be cancelling my membership.

a year or two ago i gave this 1 star. Now i give it 5. Its a great gym now, they have new matrix machines, affordable prices, and nothing really to complain about besides the slightly questionable cleanliness of the bathroom. There are many options for machines, and there is no way you wont find something that is tailored towards your fitness goals.

Not a member but went in today and don't want to go into details but had an issue occur. Front staff was very helpful and I don't know what other reviews are talking about because they were very patient, polite and helpful to other customers I observed the help. Management handled my concern promptly and were very professional and again helpfull.
If I lived closer to this YMCA I would definitely join based on my experience with the staff today.

Eh, they ruined the sauna in the Men's room. Sauna won't get over 145-150F now. The health benefits from a sauna start at a minimum of 160F-175F. There are zero health benefits to being in a sauna at less than 150F. Won't be coming back here again.

I have been attending the Venice YMCA for almost three years, and really appreciate the variety of options offered - the numerous machines on two floors, the classes, and the gorgeous outdoor pool. Many machines are being replaced, and it's thrilling to use the new equipment that is being set up. Class teachers are very patient and it's fun to explore all the different offerings. Wish I had joined years ago. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Crippled by a revolving door of poor management but survives on social security paychecks. They don't renovate because a high percentage of the clientele wouldn't even be able to see the difference.

The facilities themselves seemed fine, the outdoor pool was perfectly nice. However, they do NOT accept nationwide memberships and do not clearly post this on their website as the national Y contact email response people advised they should. They allow you to use the Y for 5 days per calendar year. They advertise that their membership allows access to other YMCAs nationwide but they do not return the favor to others. Kind of reminds me of kids in kindergarten who like to take the toys but never share.

Iโm a triathlete so I only stay at this Y because they have a lap pool, otherwise would have called it quits a long time ago. A lot of attention paid to ONLY wiping down cardio machines, but little attention is paid to doing much else. Pictures below show that they rarely ever vacuum or clean the locker rooms (the one picture shows a massive blood stain on the curtain). When they do finally vacuum they bring out a duct taped dirt devil that is the 30 dollar model at target usually reserved for college students and their college dorm rooms. They will spend money painting the lockeroom and putting up new expensive signage, but heaven forbid they clean the place. Not a staffing issue either, as at any given time they have 5 staff that sit behind their desks. Did complain to the management a couple of months back and was told they had turn over in their cleaning crew the prior weekโฆhowever this has been an issue since I joined in July. Also not pictured is the weight floorโฆthat is soo full of hair it looks like a pack of golden retrievers has been shedding on it for the better part of a year. Iโve also had hand weights come apart while Iโm using them and when you arrive at 6am, itโs not uncommon for every locker to be fully occupied because people store their stuff overnight and the staff fail to check/reset the locks.

I suggest finding a different place to go. I was treated very poorly by the staff at the desk when I was asking basic questions about programs and how to sign up for these programs. Each time I went to the front desk they acted very dismissive to me and told me to get in touch with so-and-so. Then so-and-so would tell me to go to the front desk. I called a few times to see if I could perhaps be transferred to someone who knows more information about the specific program I was interested in and the person I was transferred to said "I can't help, you'll have to get in contact with so-and-so." The only reason I'm not mentioning the name of "so-and-so" is because they were one of two people that were helpful during this whole debacle.
It took nearly two weeks to have anyone answer my questions. I can understand if the staff is new and genuinely had no idea the answer to my questions, but under no circumstance is it acceptable to treat anyone in such a rude and dismissive manner.
I hope the management can take more time to educate their staff so that this doesn't happen to anyone in the future.

Since the beginning of the year there has been many changes and not good for aftercare. No communication with the parents when things change, the new director does nothing that he says he is doing. Kids have been bullied and hit on several occasions and nothing was done. Where are these counselor at... high school kids that are more worried about playing w the kids instead of doing their job watching them. Horrible aftercare, do not send your child there.

I was sold a โbefore and after schoolโ care program that ended up NOT providing transportation to my daughters school In the morning. I requested to cancel as soon as I was informed that the Venice ymca does not provide transportation to Laurel Nokomis. Kiersten said she would look into a discount since After school care is only half the service i was sold. Offered only a 15 percent discount. I immediately requested cancellation of this program. Paid $35 registration and was charged $120 in fees for a program I did not use service for because The YMCA misinformed me. I was sold services they cannot provide. Nobody can figure out how to cancel auto draft there. The ymca is supposed to help families, not steal from them. Iโm not the only one who has been charged in appropriately here.

Iโve been going to gyms since my early 20โs and donโt need anything fancyโwhich this club is not BUT it needs a good cleaning!! Enjoying the experience, newer to the area. I thought the front desk was pretty helpful with a billing issue I had Iโm pretty sure it was because I wasnโt an obnoxious person, I was respectful and they were respectful. We stopped in a few times to work out while on vacation in the area. While this Y is nicely kept and has great facilities, I find that the staff is pretty rude and snappy. I couldn't enjoy my workout without male patrons staring at me. I suggest that if you are a young female to look for another place to stay fit or go during hours that are not too busy.

Locker rooms very dirty, sauna is so small only about 4 ppl can fit in it. Used to belong to LA Fitness. They are about 1/10th the size, but have a modern sauna (both dry and wet) that can fit 20+ ppl each.Staff stressed with how busy it is, so very abrupt with questions and providing info. Asked a desk clerk if I could try the heavy ropes in the glassed off area by the front. Very curtly told NO, that's for Myzone members only. Don't even know what Myzone is. Being prohibited from using equipment when no one was in this area using it just seems standoffish Basketball court is NEVER, and I do mean NEVER available. For the Y to say it offers an indoor basketball court is just a lie. Back "skateboard" area outside would be a perfect place to put some equipment for ppl to get a workout outdoors (would eliminate some of the throngs inside as well). That's the kind of progressive forward thinking the management should have, but doesnt. Needs renovation for locker rooms, bigger saunas, and more competent ppl at front.

Mean staff, old disgusting equipment, broken machines everywhere, pedophiles all over the place. DO. NOT. GO. HERE. Youfit, LA Fitness or hell, even PLANET FITNESS IS BETTER. Canโt believe I said that.

Disgusting facility. They expect people to clean the machines off after they use them (no other gym does this) rather than having the STAFF clean the GYM when it closes. Since nobody wants to do extra work while theyโre already working out (not surprising at all.) Sweat and germs sit in the gym. Ringworm is extremely easy to contract here (I have gotten it) AND I have a 101 degree fever coming from the only place Iโve gone to in the past 2 days, the YMCA. Disgusting

Great family friendly facility. I've attended here since I was 6 yrs old. I learned to swim here over 30 yrs ago. It's the best facility in town for busy families.

I have a complaint that I would like to share with Everyone. I love to play basketball and The Venice YMCA is the only indoor court I know of in Venice. But They never have Open Gym, weโre your allowed to use the Basketball courts. They always have camps and other activities going on which cuase members not being able to use the Basketball courts! I find this very unfair and that they Should have a court always open to its Members!

Been working out here for over a year now. The staff is god awful, extremely mean, grumpy all the time. Equipment is all extremely old, almost all of the bars in the gym are bent which causes risk for injury, dumbbells are not tightened and at risk for falling apart, cables are rugged and not smooth. There are several old pedophiles that I catch staring at girls in the gym (even young teens) which I find absolutely disgusting and even Iโve been stared at (a guy in his teens). I really donโt recommend coming here, the only reason Iโm still here is because there arenโt many other options except for YouFit and LA Fitness. Also everything in the gym is super close and there is zero room for working out half of the time, Even the leg press is loose and unsafe.
Edit: forgot to mention that Iโve caught ringworm a total of three times from this gym alone.

I love this YMCA. I've been coming here from Englewood, Fl for just over 2 years. The staff at The Englewood YMCA is just as nice but this facility is larger. I know many of the staff members by first names. I always feel welcome whether I am working out or swimming or enjoying the large Jacuzzi. Never once had a bad experience here. Thank you.

Ew I hate this place. Place is so bad. Horrible music when working out all the lifeguards in the pool are fat. Workout equipment dirty and locker rooms are not clean. They have horrible management treat their employees like dirt

I love the YMCA! I have been going there since I was 13 years old and I will continue to go as long as I live in Venice. The gym is clean & tidy machines get fixed quickly if they need repaired! The classes they offer there are excellent as well ' staff is very friendly and always willing to help.

Gary Smith, the Director of the Sports camp, is fantastic! He runs a great summer program and he and his staff have gone above and beyond to ensure that my son is delivered to his daily Sharks swim team practices while he's part of the summer Sports camp. It's nice to find a safe environment and a solid program with friendly staff for my son to be a part of during the summer months!
