Extremely crowded for equipment and space. I’ve been frustrated with regularly waiting or not being able to get equipment i’d like to use during my workout. Plus there are limited variety of options not to mention a hefty price. I mostly went between 6-7:30 AM. Pretty disappointed and will likely cancel.

I don’t see what all the naysayers are complaining about. This is a wonderful, state of the art facility (for us common folk). Great equipment too. I have seen some teenagers there, but I would’ve guessed they were all 16 or over, and they weren’t disruptive, loud or problematic…just working out. Maybe I’m just there at the right time.

Although we did not join, we did send our son to the camp they sponsor for three weeks. The experiences was pleasant and our son was very happy. There was an incident with another child, who was harassing ours, but he was suspended. The one person in the office, with whom I spoke, was very kind and understanding.

I recently started going to the YMCA and so far everything has been nice. Instructors for group classes are super nice. However, gym area has some issues. Confirming some of the other reviews, I also noticed there are many teenagers and literal children walking around taking up all the space. I am a young adult, 20, and I understand the need of other young people to wanting to take care of their bodies, however, if this means not respecting other people and taking up the space while doing absolutely nothing, then something needs to change. I even heard from a friend of mine who takes classes here that some teenagers even tried to cause trouble during those classes as well, which is not acceptable at all.

Another concern of mine is the hygiene of this place. As far as I see the place is clean and they provide wipes for you to be able to clean the machines but I doubt that some people even do that. I have been sick for a week and still in the process of recovering. Considering that I have been only going to the gym for the past 2 months, I am suspicious of the cleanliness of this place. Because it is more likely to get a flu from here people sweating and not cleaning after themselves.

I really like this place and I love the instructors. However, if the management doesn't do anything to take these things under control, I will have to reconsider coming here.

Our 5 year old son was kicked out of their summer camp program despite him being under special consideration and in the process of being under a formal individual development plan. His special concerns were specifically discussed with the director and counselors and we were told that it wouldn’t be a problem and they were willing to work around his behavior developmental issues. And yet when he was too excited to go into the pool on pool day he was suspended for showing aspects of his behavior condition. Fast forward to the first day back after a two week break and he is suspended again for β€œTOUCHING counselors bottoms” and showing more aspects of his condition. Despite the suspension sentencing the camp didn’t report the incident or the suspension to us until the afternoon and the counselors reporting him having a β€œgood day” at camp… My son got suspended again for a brief moment of lapse in the first few minutes of returning to camp when he was hyper excited to be there.

The Y was supposed to be a safe space for my son to continue his progress and develop his behavior skills and be around other kids. I understand my kid can be a handful and requires more attention than other kids but when the camp reports that I have a β€œsweet kid” and he has β€œgood days” why is he being sentenced with a suspension early in the morning but β€œhe can stay the rest of the day”? Seems like they just don’t want to have a β€œdifficult kid” around.

You should consider this and maybe take your kid somewhere more tolerant of diversity.

My review is based on the operation of the business, otherwise the idea of facility I would give 5 stars. This gym is allowing kids literally children to be present and have a hung out place. Some of them are forcing their fragile bodies to lift heavy weights and cause most likely future damage. I don't believe anyone under 18 should be allowed to be lifting or using of any heavy equipment and study about this were done already. Parents are obviously not aware of how their kids one day will develop body deformities due to improper exercises of their bodies. During the child development where growth hormone is the most active any type of improper activity disturbs the body mechanism to develop properly.
My other concern are classes, you can't just sign up for class but every time you attempt, you automatically will be put on the waiting list. The class may just open and be fully available but Its already every obvious some of the instructors pick and choose who they want for their class, and most of the time there are the same people who are repeating. This issue should be addressed by the the manager and disallow this option. If the instructor wants to entrain their neighbors or friends they can offer classes out of their homes, this is a public facility and such a thing shouldn't be allowed.

Gearing up to go to the gym on Friday and I can't because they close at 7pm. The weekend hours are very limited. The equipment, especially in the leg department is limited and missing basic core fundamental pieces. Theres an entire section in the front that IMO should go into some sort of physical therapy room and be replaced with the pieces they are missing. The price of the gym for my fiancΓ© and I is $100 a month, so it's above average. I think they could do better with the hours and by adding a few things. Standing calve machine, hack squat, reverse curl double leg or single leg. Also, there is no plate loaded equipment at all. No hammer strength or any of that.

My only complaint is with the staff. This facility is nothing more than a social hangout for unsupervised kids and poorly disciplined teens. The YMCA staff does nothing to control the unsafe misbehavior of these kids and teens. The staff does nothing to enforce gym rules or etiquette. These kids are mistreating equipment and taking up space while the staff sits around and turns a blind eye. This place is another accident waiting to happen...and I've seen it happen. Management needs to take charge.

*Update* Nothing is getting any better. Management seems non-existent. The "trainers" there are basically kids that sit around chit-chatting and ignoring all safety/etiquette violations. One member was holding a machine with her phone and towel while doing a freeweight workout. I stood there waiting. The "trainer" asked if I needed help. I pointed out the etiquette violation. She looked at me and said, "There's nothing I can do about that."
One member made a complaint about kids on phones while on machines to two "trainers" who were sitting around doing nothing. As she walked away, the two boys started laughing. This place needs a management and employee overhaul.

The only issues with this branch of YMCA are that it’s not big enough for the growing area and it doesn’t have a pool. There’s sometimes an issue with large groups of teenagers taking over the equipment on the floor but not using it. Staff has gotten better about enforcing age rules and being back in school has helped as well.

This gym is HORRIBLE!! During summer hours this place is a teenage hang out from 10am-3pm. Get ready to see teens hanging out, on instagram & taking up space all standing around. Then, you have group training classes that reserve 2-3 machines at once. When you have a tiny space, no employees enforcing the rules, training classes and a million teens, you won’t enjoy this place. Overcrowded, small and overrated gym. TEENAGE HANGOUT

it’s quite sad to see the same adults who shame kids for being caught up in technology and social media also shame on them for trying to go to a gym. I am now about to be in my 20s and although there are a lot of children in the gym, hating on a place that allows kids to experiment with working on their bodies is quite literally embarrassing. The reason why I write this place three stars is because the old men who stare at me make me feel uncomfortable. let children work out and experience things for themselves. just because your old doesn’t mean you have to ruin everything for the young. have the day you deserve. god bless

Small and overcrowded. The equipment is nice, but the space is way too small for the number of people that want to work out. You guys have GOT to add more classes. The weight lifting classes are ALWAYS FULL. I CAN'T GET A SPOT. I've tried for weeks. The cycling classes also, ALWAYS FULL. The "reservation" system for these classes is awful. Can't sign up until 24 hours before the class, if you aren't on the SECOND these classes open forget it. Kids club time slots don't coincide with half the classes either. So many classes START at 915, kids club STARTS at 915....so if I can get into a class, how am I supposed to get there on time? Kids club events? Haha. Nope. Forget it. You won't get a spot for those either. Also the app is awful. Soo much potential.

I just wanted to leave my own review kind of in response to the previous one posted. That was not a positive review. I know that the situation that the reviewer shared was a serious one. However, I just wanted to say that this YMCA is absolutely a safe place for your kids. I'm sure many people know how hard it is to deal with just their own kids and we all make mistakes and things happen. This YMCA has already implemented new policies in order to help prevent any situations like the previous one from happening again. I absolutely a thousand percent trust this YMCA with my children. My children absolutely love it here. They have always been safe. They have always been cared for and loved. The employees at this YMCA are the best and I hope that when the new durbin YMCA opens they will all transfer there as it is much closer to my house and I would miss them too much if I transferred without them. The greatest proof that they are a safe place is how quickly they implemented changes to protect and prevent any future incidences with children.

The Nocatee YMCA has helped me learn how to get fit and stay that way! Their wide variety of classes and times allows me to get a great workout most any day… but what really impresses me the most is that all the instructors are genuinely caring and motivating! If the floor is your style, the equipment is plentiful, updated and clean for individual training or their group programs offered. And one of my favorite features is the gorgeous view when on cardio machines, the open mat area or if in the large covered outdoor workout/class area (airnasium).

Love this Y! I go 3-4 times a week and always enjoy the class/program/instructors and friends Ive made there. All the employees are kind and helpful. People going to a gym for the first time can be intimidating- but every class I take the instructor will ask if there are any new members taking it for the first time and talk with that person on what to expect and what their limitations might be (if any). My recommendations for classes I personally love (and any skill level can do) are: body pump/NOC/cycle (which they have multiple times a day or week) They keep adding more programs as well (WOW) to meet the needs of their members. They also have a wonderful kids program that Ms Gladys and her team run if you are in need of childcare.

Unmonitored young teen social hangout! Don’t bother going after 5pm. Cancelled family membership. Overcrowded with kids is an understatement since reducing age/parent restrictions. Even my older kids wanted nothing to do with that madhouse. Might be fine during the day when they are in school but not a good place for those who work.

I’d give it a 1 star except it may is probably fine for retired people who go during the day. And, you can always find one of the 40+ cardio or weird electronic subscription circuit machines open that are tying up 3/4 of the place if that’s your thing. Nobody uses those machines and kids don’t seem to play on the treadmills very long.

Review based on going there after 4:30pm.
The good, the trainers are real nice.
The bad:
If you're looking for teenagers social hour where they are on the phone taking selfies and just sit on the equipment then this is the place for you.
No control of the crowd and no gym adequate enforced.
Crowded to the point that you can't get on any equipment.
To small for the amount of people and not enough equipment.
If equipment breaks be prepared to wait months for it to get fixed. The cable machine's panels are literally falling off and every week it seems like the screws holding the panels disappear.
The opening hours are a joke, open till 9:00pm except Friday 7:00pm and weekends on Saturday till 3:00pm. Sunday not open till 11:00am and closed at 5:00p.
Really not worth the expensive membership cost and they are increasing it January 2023. Reason, enhance facilities, but they can't even fix the existing equipment. Save your money and find a real gym.

The teen age kids leave weights on the equipment and leave equipment laying around. I've also noticed them on their phones while sitting on equipment. No gym etiquette. It's frustrating having to pick up after them. The staff should be doing that or talking with them. Thats the only reason I gave them a below average rating.

Source: Google

β˜… 2

I'm pretty dissapointed with this YMCA gym. As a weight lifting oriented gym-goer, the gym is missing many marks. The space limitations lead to too few machines and benches. You're guaranteed to be waiting for a machine, bench, weight, etc. (5pm onward crowd) they wasted an entire portion of the gym for a circular circuit of machines that...you need to sign up for and get an ID code just to use them. It's such a rediculously over complicated waste of machine space rather than planning for benches or machine redundancy or variety they just wasted 1/5 of the gym for a section I've barely seen used, let alone as a circuit.

Second huge issue, is they just let under 16year olds run around without a guardian. I've never seen this in a gym before. I keep seeing them numerous times messing around with machines and an Injury/lawsuit is inevitable. Some of the things they do are so dangerous, and they just don't know any better. They need to enforce younger gym goers to have a guardian to monitor them. I'm all for the youth working out, but I cringe watching them and am scared they are going to seriously hurt themselves. The Staff may as well not exist if they don't enforce the most obvious of rules. They just sit and stare off into space or look at their phones.

Last issue that makes me want to switch gyms altogether. You pay a lot for a gym, but you don't get a gyms hours. You pay for the WHOLE buildings operating hours. It's a bit rediculous, especially Friday, and the weekend? they may as well not open. We were all asked to leave today (Friday) at 6pm... I get off work at 5. I feel like I have to work around their schedule and not my very typical work schedule.

This gym feels more like a well funded, underspaced, accessory room that happens to be attached to a YMCA medical facility. It also feels like it takes advantage of being the only option for a typical mainstream gym in the local area. I'd be way happier if they changed the hours to a reasonable gym schedule at the very least. At the very least weekdays all closing roughly at 8/9 at the very least. If this is about the buildings operating hours, figure out a way to allow gym goers access for more reasonable gym hours. It's the least you can do amongst the other issues listed.

Exceedingly disappointed with the Y at Nocatee as of late. It is like Romper Room after 4pm with little to no management. Groups of teens congregate around equipment for excessive time with no regard for other members. In addition, weights are used incorrectly or with no oversight. I have seen a number of incidents that could have resulted in major injury. There is a lawsuit waiting to happen there. The teens that work the floor after about 4pm keep their heads down and do not address the issues. I would suggest some serious management and enforcement implemented or I can almost guarantee you will lose many of your adult members.

Nice gym and a great location. Membership is relatively high compared to other traditional gyms but not a big concern. My problem is the hours this gym is open. Closing at 8PM… Is it to much to ask for so you guys can extend the hours? You guys are taking advantage of the fact that are no other gyms around in the area.

Much smaller than most locations and they now require masks for children 2+.

Very hard to get into group exercise classes. App will not allow you to reserve a spot prior to 24 hours. Limited early morning classes and 12 p.m. classes is for seniors not really conducive for the working folk who have 8:30-4:30.

This is a nice gym but the hr or operation are a joke. A gym that is closing at 8 pm on weekdays 7 pm Fridays, 3 pm Saturdays, and 5 pm Sundays ... really... Do they realize that the majority of us have to work and with this schedule it’s very hard to workout. A gym should close at least at 10 pm or after. Most of other gyms are 24h.

Nice equipment helpful trainers, a great view from the gym. I love the Y. It's my favorite place to sit on the excercise machine and look at cat videos while people are waiting to use it. Just kidding, but it is some people's. I have been a member of alot of gyms and usually it's get a set in and let someone work in, here alot of people will do a set and sit there posting that they went to the gym today while everyone is waiting to work in. Not trying to be ugly, but maybe a little consideration please.
