Amazing mat pilates class! Mrs. Griffin was a great instructor, full of energy and praise! Unpretentious and welcoming from the first moment I crossed the threshold. Class was tough and invigorating. I fly to Atlanta often and plan on hitting her class on my next visit! Highly, highly recommend.

Be Well has been a great place for me to build discipline and strength and find empowerment and refreshment. I love going to class here. I'm glad I get to focus purely on my self during this time, and the I love having a place that nurtures and encourages that.

--

Logistics:

Be Well is a pilates + yoga studio at The Beacon, accessed by the door to the left of the garage windows. It's in the building south of Eventide and has plenty of parking nearby. Bathrooms are located inside the building.

Be Well offers many cheap first-timer deals to help newcomers figure out if this is the studio for them. The easiest way to schedule yourself for classes is to use the MINDBODY app. From there you can see the class schedule, description, and teachers, and you can book and cancel classes.

Private yoga and pilates are also available.

Class Experience:

I've practiced most the Mary Grace (welcoming and warm AF), Kat (I've heard her described as an earth goddess), Hannah (a little "devil may care" in the best way that helps you relax), and Lauren (thoughtful and kind).

I started regularly visiting Be Well for yoga in September of 2018. Most of my yoga experience was using "Yoga with Adriene" videos on Youtube, and I wasn't sure what to expect from Be Well. At first, classes were more fast-paced and longer than I was used to (yoga classes last at least 1 hour), but I acclimated quickly once I knew to expect. More importantly, everyone's been kind, helpful, competent, and nonjudgemental, which was such a relief for me.

Now that I've found my rhythm and personal goals, I usually go twice a week. I have also done weight lifting at home, pretty consistently, and having the flexibility from yoga and the added strength from weights, I've been so pleased and excited by how Be Well has helped my body reach a potential I never knew it had! One of the best parts about doing yoga with this team is having them share the experience of growing and stretching with me, while nudging me into better form so I'm safe and healthy, too.

Each class has music playing, and there are props (blocks, blankets, bolsters, and straps) available for all students. Bring your own mat, but you can rent one for a couple bucks if you need to. You'll notice a puja right when you walk into the room. Feel free to disregard it, in class it's only mentioned as a reference point ("turn toward the puja, now turn toward the garage door"). We do always begin every class with a brief word shared from the teacher to center us on a common theme (e.g. domain, softly, calm, etc.) and an optional joining in of "Om." At the end, there is always shavasanah (corpse pose) and the teacher typically ends class with a thank you and an honoring of the students and "namaste."

Aligned Flow Class : This class lasts just an hour and works through a yoga session from a practice plan from yogahour. It often moves quickly through poses, but you're always welcome to skip poses or rest in a pose you like. Teachers walk you through each pose and build up to more optional, challenging instruction for each pose. Most teachers demonstrate, but the instructions are always clear.

Yoga Practice Class : (includes ~15 minutes of meditation at the end for a total of 75 minutes) This class stretches students a bit more to play and experiment and maybe push themselves, but I've found the workout and focus to be really similar to Aligned Flow. Meditation is always optional, you can sit quietly instead if you like. The teacher will guide for the first 5 minutes or so with breathwork suggestions.

Yoga Restore : This is a very slow paced class that spends sometimes minutes in the same pose providing a deeper stretch and a more restorative practice. The only time I took this class it was when Everarde taught it (that's the only time I've gone to one of his classes). His voice was very soothing and added extra rest and nonjudgement to the session.

Yoga + Release : Similar to Aligned Flow, this class also includes ~15 minutes of instruction with a foam roller at the beginning of class.

I have been in and out of yoga studios for a while now and never quite found the right fit for me until Be Well. I can't say enough about this studio it's so warm and welcoming! I love that you can find yoga and pilates (actual pilates classes) in the same place. I've taken from a few teachers so far and have not been disappointed.

A little background on how I found this gem...a while back I was struggling to get back to my level of physical activity from a surgery that created new pain for me. After switching PTs and discovering pilates, I was beginning to feel better, however, the person (people) I was working with on pilates was not the right fit for me. I felt like they were forcing my body to fit pilates rather than making pilates fit my body. I met Mary Grace along this journey and was so grateful. She meets you where you are at, listens to what you are feeling with your body and just has this keen awareness of what someone's body needs. I have been working one-on-one with her for about a year and a half and have finally started to believe pain wasn't my new norm. She was extremely patient with me and you can tell she genuinely cares about your well-being.

I can't say enough about Be Well, Mary Grace, and the rest of the folks here. It feels like home.

I love the Restore class β€” it’s really centering and I always feel great afterward. Sometimes it’s nice to slow down and focus on stretching. It’s a really great complement to the rest of my workout routine!

Love the space and the location, too.

I can’t speak highly enough about this studio. The Pilates mat class, reformer class & private’s are dynamite. I have never done so much hard strength training with ease & confidence. High level of professionalism but warm teachers.
The yoga is good too!

I love the vibe at this studio. The space is sleek but also inviting, like visiting the home of your most stylish friend. Took an evening yoga hour + meditation class there recently, and it was the perfect way to wind down a stressful day. Nicholas is a great teacher - very clear and direct and his meditation was absolutely what I needed to center myself after practice. Very kind person at the desk, and the book selection is fantastic!

Mary Grace is a wonderful instructor. She is smart and focused and poetic, which make her verbal cues descriptive and easy to follow. In her Pilates and yoga classes, I’m constantly discovering new ways to access muscle groups. My body feels like it’s coming back together after years of neglect. Highly recommend!
