It's just been a few months since my daughter started her Bharatnatyam classes at Bharathakala Naatya Academy. We can already see her dancing has improved so much. She gets a different Akka teacher most of the time. But all are loving and kind so she never had issue with that. Overall, you can feel the vibe of deep passion for Bharatnatyam even as you enter the studio.
Only one thing I had trouble with was communication. It has happened several times that we put our other work on hold so our daughter could attend her classes but there were no classes. It can be frustrating as we don't have any help for anything, and we need to run other errands too. I can understand if it's not possible to inform everyone individually... even a brief group message on Whatsapp could be so helpful.

I have been learning from Subha Aunty for the past 11 years, and she is truly a wonderful, caring teacher. She puts her heart into all of us to be great dancers, and she is very patient. Subha Aunty has not only made me a great dancer, but a better human being, following all the cultural values. She always encourages, saying, "We should always give through dance.", which I find it very supportive. Aunty has helped me in many ways! Feel free to talk to her about anything, and she will always be there for you!

My daughters are blessed to have a guru like Smt. Subathra Sudarsan.
She realizes the potential of each beginner and hones their talent.
She has never bothered about hours.. Often, classes extend beyond their
regular schedules. All she wants is perfection from the students.

The social work that she undertakes is beyond belief. Her non profit
organization has donated more than hundreds of thousand dollars for charity. Giving back to the society through dance has been her motto.
What is more unique – she does not believe in her left hand knowing
any of what the right hand is giving… Hats off for this selflessness!

Beyond the dance, the family environment that she creates for the kids
deserve applause. We highly recommend BK Natya!

We have been part of Bharatakala Natya Academy since it conception. This school has offered my child not only a high quality learning environment but also a place where she learned the value of giving back to the community. I highly recommend this school to anyone who want to explore the art of Bharatanatyam especially from a performance perspective.

Any classical art form needs and demands mastery of the foundation. Be it music, ballet, Kathak or bharatanatyam.. Subha Akka recognizes and instills this in every child she teaches. I have seen the difference in children who have come to her from other dance schools in and out of Atlanta. Someone here mentioned something about $ per hour.. but what they don't see is the outcome of the dance form their child is learning. Taking online classes during the pandemic is not easy and add to that managing schedules of multiple children.. even in these challenging times,she has successfully taken all the classes.. Her children stand out as dancers who have mastered this art form. Her senior students are a delight to watch and her emerging students display so much potential. Apart from dance she also teaches children to give through dance. I am extremely grateful to find a teacher like Shubha Akka for my daughters.

My daughter has been learning bharathanatyam from Mrs. Subathra (Subha Akka) for almost 10 years now. Subha Akka is not just a dance Guru but is a second mother for my child. She treats all of her students as if they are her own children. She strives to teach her students, not only dance but also life skills, to be better in the world and to make a difference. She encourages them to be better citizens and help others by giving through dance. Bharathakala is not just a dance school, it’s a family!
