Worst youth soccer experience EVER for 2025 Fall season with coach Sara….not one practice was organized, the fields at the Seminary were never well kept, we never started on time, she never made her voice heard to the players and the games were always chaotic cause she never actually coached her team! Not to mention the constant involvement of parents on the fields and siblings who chose to also kick around on the fields who were not a part of the team as the games took place….it was just complete chaos and super disappointing!

Customer service is great, rules are ridiculous. Pool is never open for anything other than lap swim and classes. Gymnastics might be good for younger kids, but not for older. Will not be registering for anymore classes or summer camps.

My husband and I have been members for years, and There are many reasons why! First of all, it’s a neighborhood place, which we love. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are plenty of classes to choose from, and the teachers are Good at what they do and they obviously enjoy it. The facilities are great. We love the Decatur Y!

Went here with my children to workout, while in the gym area, some guy slamming weights around out of nowhere asked me if I had a problem buddy, I asked him to leave me alone and went to another area to workout, he begin to yell do you have a problem, do you wanna do something, if you have a problem let’s go, let’s fight, while approaching me with clinched fists. I asked him to get out of my face. While he continued to yell profanities a staff member came over and asked him to leave, he said he was not leaving, proceeded to walk around cursing like he owned the place. Staff members Bradley and Eugene began to treat me as if I was in the wrong for trying to identify a guy who just threatened me to a fight for no reason. I feel this place should have on site security. I definitely felt unsafe being there with my children.

UPDATE: The lady Aaron terminated my family YMCA membership from all metro Atlanta YMCAs claiming that staff asked me to leave. No one ever asked me to leave, in addition I never did anything to anyone to be asked to leave. Meanwhile the caucasian who started the situation, has been allowed to continue his membership after refusing to leave and cursing the staff and trying to start fights. I hope this was not a case of racism and discrimination.

Trish and Joann never speak or greet me. The only time they speak to me is about something that may be seemingly negative on my account. I’ve been working with my home gym to figure out their mistake on my account. I literally repeat the same thing to them over and over. There’s notes on my account that says this. They literally never just say “hi” and read the notes. It’s always “hey uhh”. They should atleast know by now. Been coming here over a year. The trainers are all nice though. Housekeeping can do a much better job, there are dead flies and spiders littered all over the window seals. The equipment is dated, but it gets the job done.

The Decatur YMCA has been a true lifeline for my family. My kiddo absolutely thrives in their camps and after-school programs, which are not only fun and engaging but also incredibly well-run. Seeing their joy and growth is priceless. Personally, after losing my job, the YMCA became a crucial part of my mental wellness journey. The supportive community, the opportunities for physical activity, and the sense of purpose I found through volunteering and participating in classes helped me navigate a difficult time. The YMCA isn't just a gym; it's a place where I've found strength, connection, and a renewed sense of well-being. It's truly a place where mind, body and spirit is nurtured.

We swam laps for a good hour and a half and couldn’t help but notice that the lifeguard was never once on the lifeguard stand or near any kind of flotation device, and was literally face down in a phone playing videos the entire time. It was a rare occurrence to see their eyes on the pool, and the pool was full of swimmers, including children. My husband has been a trained certified lifeguard in the past and was a bit floored, as this is completely unacceptable in official lifeguard training. This was very disheartening, as the on-duty lifeguard was one of the reasons we were attracted to this option as opposed to other gyms in the area. Tried contacting leadership about this and never heard back.

I just had such an unwelcoming call with the gentleman at the front desk of this YMCA. I had some general questions regarding a pass for my elderly mother, to which I received what felt like sarcastic answers and the individual hung up on me before I could even finish. I then called the YMCA on Ashford Dunwoody and had a very helpful conversation with Quentin. Who was kind, patient and made some great suggestions to my enquiries. Excellent customer service at the other location. We’ll go there.

DISCLAIMER: This will be a long one. Today was my first time at this YMCA. I’m a 90’s baby and grew up in the YMCA from sports to after school programs to summer camps, I did it all and now that I have a child of my own I was hoping to give her the same experience. Two minutes, yes TWO MINUTES after dropping my 3 year old off at the children’s center I get a notification that I needed to return the center. To my surprise nothing was wrong but the center associate proceeds to tell me that she called my daughters name and she didn’t respond and in her experience that would conclude that my daughter was on “the spectrum” and she just wanted to “make sure”. Of course I was taken back and lost for words because as I said this was our 1st time here. I explained to her that like ANY toddler this is a new environment, other children and a lots of toys so I’m sure she was just trying to feel everything out. And don’t forget it had been ONLY 2 minutes, so within those 2 minutes of interacting with my child you find it acceptable to diagnose her with a condition? I find this extremely rude, inappropriate and insensitive. I proceed to workout and when I return to pick up my daughter the same employee informs me that they had “a rough time”. When asked what happened all she said was “she was doing dangerous activities” and “when I walk up to her she just runs”. Again, what happened? What were the dangerous activities? And if this did transpire why wasn’t I notified? You had no problem notifying me when you took it upon yourself to provide a diagnosis but not when my child is in “danger”? Ok… I guess. I witnessed 2 parents come and pick up their little ones and this employee was all smiles and cheerful. But when it came to me and my daughter it seemed like she was aggravated and annoyed. I can’t help but think that me and my child where discriminated against. I’m warning any parent that 1. Is young and African American 2. Has a child that is shy or not outgoing or 3. That has any type of disability DON’T GO HERE! Your child deserves to be cared for and treated the same as everyone else regardless of race, disability, gender etc. And they will NOT provide any notification when your child is in “danger”. It’s not safe! I never would have expected this interaction but I guess the YMCA standards and policies have changed since I attended and it’s a shame.

Review for pool only- Not the place for you if you are a lap swimmer. This location has no aquatic rules. It is a free for all. No lane reservations. No limits to # of people in lanes. No policy on disallowing certain strokes (butterfly, backstroke)when having to share a lane. Management is not proactive nor do they encourage lap swimming. They have reservations for aquatic classes but won’t allow a reservation system for lap swimming? The stars given are for some of the awesome lifeguards

The Decatur Y is a friendly and pleasingly unpretentious place. Both the people who work there and the people who work out are polite and down-to-earth. I never use the pool or the gym, so I can only talk about the machines and the weights. The equipment is usually in excellent condition and well-maintained. Although repairs sometimes take a while, I've never been inconvenienced by the delays. They also have plenty of machines and the place is very spacious. Even when it's crowded it's easy to work around, because at least one of the stations in my routine will be available. My only gripe--and I suspect this is common at any gym--is that there are so many people who linger at the machines either texting, mindlessly scrolling, taking selfies(!), or looking for that perfect song from their playlist to accompany their next set. They seem oblivious to the fact that other people come to actually work out and might need to use the machine they're sitting at...

Every single member of the staff is more than ready to help you out no matter how silly the question is (believe me, I had some silly ones.) Each one performs different yoga routines so that all parts of your body get attention. If you want to stay healthy, keep your mobility, and feel young again, try yoga because almost everyone can benefit from it. I also recommend the senior strength classes, along with swimming and cycling. The staff and members are very welcoming and happy to be there. And, you make new friends!

Fitness equipment is brand new and well maintained, better than other local gyms I've tried. I like that I can use a peloton one day and a treadmill another day. I like working out with on a tour of the alps or while watching Netflix. I have also used the free fitness coach. There are classes, there's a pool and there is a daycare on site. Kids have enjoyed the soccer program and the summer camp. At times the staff is busy and soccer and swim programs can be hard to get ahold of to get signed up, but it's a non-profit so I assume they are understaffed.

Went to inquire about membership and summer camp. Darin the front desk assistant was very appalling in his interaction with me and my family. He had a attitude right off the back. He addressed another member before he addressed another with a smile and pleasant demeanor. I think he got irritated because we saw the sign that said membership and went to the desk. He sin the middle of speaking with the other member he he said can I help you and I replied we are here for membership and he said it's over here and rolled his eyes and proceeded to talk back to the other members. Not sure why he was irritated with us but he was surely unpleasant.

This gym is best on this side of Dekalb county as far as the appearance of the facility.

The Decatur-DeKalb Y has so much to offer in the way of group exercise...I exercise at the Y 6/7 days per week nearly all of the time. I love my spin classes, my turbo kick classes, and my fierce funk. I really like that the machines are available and rarely is there a wait. The Y is clean & the staff are also really friendly. I am lucky to be so near this facility!

I think this is zero star because of I was at one of there games and the lady told the ref that they scored one free throw not two then the cancelled the whole game just because of that. Then the ref was so disrespectful to the lady. She said she was not leaving because she want to watch her child play. The lady had a good reason for that and everybody agreed to that.

Horrible place. No basketball game should be kept there. The director there should be ashamed of herself and should be replaced asap. Raven sweetie find another profession because you clearly cannot count.

There racist. They ended a kids game all because a parent corrected the score. Because they gave the home team on extra point. They called the police on the mom and they ended the game. Trifling, racist.
