We signed up our 4-year-old for the Twinkle Toes class. She enjoyed it and her skills improved a lot in comparison to her previous studio. That being said, the obligatory recital was enough to put us off from signing her up here again.
In addition to monthly tuition, $83 recital costume fee, $150 recital fee, $18/pp recital ticket (all patrons - parents, infants under 12mos, EVERYONE) for a single 3-minute performance. Tickets are extremely limited and it was way overcrowded. Furthermore, you are forbidden from photo/videoing your own child which would be less of an issue if we ever received the video that we paid for. Picking up my daughter after the show resembled the lifeboat scene from Titanic; yelling, panic, crowd surge…it was chaos. Luckily, no one was hurt as far as I know but my kid was pretty shaken. The Grand Theatre in Cartersville is neat and the show was good but at age 4 I’d rather it be a smaller scale performance than attempting to create a Bolshoi-calibre production. Our previous dance studio put on recitals that had 2+ numbers for each dancer at venues that had enough space for everyone, weren’t anxiety-inducing, overly expensive, or 30 miles away. Having the chance for rec dancers to simply opt out of the recital would’ve been a welcome alternative.
