I am extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism and accountability at the LA Fitness Marietta location. I accidentally left my gold Tous necklace in the sauna a couple of weeks ago. When I called the next day, a front desk employee (Austin) told me that a custodian had found it and turned it in. My necklace was supposedly sitting at the front desk waiting for me.

When I returned a couple of days later to pick it up, the necklace was suddenly nowhere to be found. Despite the fact that their own staff confirmed it had been recovered, no one could explain what happened to it. What made the situation worse was the complete lack of support from the on-duty manager (Susan). Instead of taking responsibility or trying to help, she simply told me, “There’s nothing I can do.” That was the entire response. No investigation, no effort, no accountability.

As a paying member, I expect better. When a facility takes possession of a valuable lost item, it should be safe until the owner returns. The way this was mishandled — and the way management dismissed it — shows major gaps in customer service and internal procedures.

I love that this gym is always clean! My daughter and I come in very early in the mornings to get our workouts in, and I always notice Kevin making his rounds—cleaning, checking things, and greeting everyone with a smile. It really makes us feel welcomed.

I also noticed the basketball nets were worn one morning, but by the next day, Kevin had already replaced them. That kind of attention to detail says a lot. Kevin, thank you for always being on point and keeping this gym in top shape!

I actually live closer to the Terrell mill location but make the trip out to this location because it’s so much better. It has a great layout, the machines aren’t down often and when they are they get fixed quick but most importantly it’s much cleaner and better cared for than the Terrell mill location.

Showers are looking brand new! As many gym goers know, not only is the actual weight room important… so are the showers. Going to many different gyms, some of the showers are unacceptable. However, this location has exceeded expectations. The shower looks almost new! Special thank you to the staff for caring. I believe Kevin is there main guy to thank for the cleaning in that gym. The sauna at the East Cobb club was not available for some extended period of time. I spoke to Kevin this weekend about this and asked what was the issue. Apparently, the sauna heater was destroyed because some members were pouring water in it to generate steam. First, I'd like to point out that this is a DRY sauna for those members who may not know the difference between a sauna and a steam room. Second, this is an electric heater, and for those members who remember their grade school science class, water and electricity are not great companions. Third, I want to recognize that the sauna was fixed over the weekend and I wanted to thank Kevin and the other staff member for getting this done. Finally, I'd also suggest that a sign be posted in the sauna prohibiting anyone from pouring water on the heater, and if they are caught doing so, their membership and privileges should be revoked from all L.A. Fitness clubs.

This location quite honestly is the worst. The staff is complacent, the manager makes excuses for why facilities are not in working order and we are now nearly 4 weeks without a working sauna in the men's locker room.

When I spoke with the manager this morning, she was defensive and showed little care aside from the update of July 16 when the sauna is to be completed. I asked for the district managers information and the local manager was reluctant to provide me with the information. Again, clearly not taking responsibility for the situation and definitely not showing any empathy for the members who have the guts to say something.

If you are thinking about joining LA fitness, go somewhere else. Until management is re-trained or replaced, this place is not appreciative of you or your money.

Update today 7/21- sauna still not in working order!! I went in on Saturday 7/19 and was told the sauna would be up and running today. Hahaha...joke's on me.

I have visited several LA Fitness locations in my area for over 4 years and the East Cobb location is by far the best one in terms of the maintenance and cleanliness. Kevin is excellent in maintaining the appearance of this facility and it's an enjoyable experience to visit. I mainly use the swimming pool and sauna and these facilities are always clean.

Poorly run gym that just shut down due to electrical problems, with no communication to customers, no re-opening date in sight, and no prorated membership fees. We’re paying for a locked door. Even when it’s open, the gym is filthy, there are literally dead cockroaches in the overhead lights (you can see them while lying on the bench press — see photos), and good luck ever finding paper towels to dry your hands.

I'm extremely disappointed with the recent experience at LA Fitness on Roswell Road. The club has been closed for the entire week with no prior notice or communication via email or customer service call to explain the reason or provide an estimated reopening date. When we drove by, there was a sign on the door indicating a reopening date, but on that day, the club remained closed with no further communication.

I attempted to call the service center number listed on the LA Fitness website, but there was no response and no option to leave a voicemail. After calling another LA Fitness club, I was informed that the Roswell Road location would remain closed for a few more weeks. They also mentioned that refunds would not be provided since there are other LA Fitness clubs in the area that we could attend, regardless of the inconvenience this causes.

While I understand that repairs are sometimes necessary, the lack of proper communication and consideration for members' convenience is unacceptable. It is incredibly frustrating that other people are deciding where I should go without addressing the inconvenience caused.

POTENTIAL MEMBERS OR CURRENT MEMBERS, I WRITE THIS TO PREVENT YOU FROM HAVING A BAD TIME.

Before I start telling you about my experience, I would like to say that Tony and Jackie (sorry if I'm not writing their names correctly) are super friendly and nice!

MY BAD EXPERIENCE:

Weeks ago, I had a bad experience with one of the trainers. She was very rude and aggressive in the way she communicated with me. I tried to let the situation not affect me, but I honestly didn't feel welcome in the gym after that incident. When I complained about her attitude, they told me that she had already received a complaint that same week—two complaints in a week.

I decided to cancel my membership because I no longer felt comfortable in the gym (I have been a gym member for over a year). I went to the location to cancel my membership and asked to speak to the manager so I could proceed with the cancellation. I explained a little about why I wanted to cancel it and asked if there was anything I needed to pay or do and if my membership was already canceled. I was told that there was nothing I had to do and that it was already canceled. Likewise, she said that the system was slow and that I would receive a confirmation email later.

More than an hour later, I checked my email, and nothing. I checked the LA Fitness app, and it said my status was active. After seeing this and feeling worried, I decided to call and ask why it said active if it was supposedly already canceled, according to what they had told me at the gym.

The person on the phone told me that he was about to call me and that my membership status was active because THEY HAD NOT YET CANCELED IT, why? Because he wanted to talk to me first. Remember what I mentioned before? When I went in person (drove there…) and I was told that they had already canceled it and that I was going to get a confirmation email later but since their system was slow it was going to take a little longer for me to get the email?... anyway, I was shocked and honestly just confused and worried. It made me feel that his desire to talk to me first overrode my desire to cancel my membership asap. Despite feeling outraged by everything, I just managed to listen. As part of his explanation was that "Jill" the trainer and the person I had a bad experience with, is like that, and that a lot of people complain about her, but that's how she is. I understood what he wanted to tell me, but it did not seem fair to me.

The person on the phone canceled my membership and I received the cancellation confirmation email. I appreciate his help but this whole situation could have been handled better.

There are other gyms near my house, but I decided to go to this one in the past. Even though it was a little further away compared to other gyms closer to my house. I am sad that my relationship with this gym has ended this way.

I have been going to this gym for over 20 years. They have really started letting this gym fall apart. On most occasions there’s no paper towels in the bathroom, the floors are always dirty along with the smell of mold, the equipment is starting to be in bad shape, the bathroom floors are always wet. This is not a knock on La fitness because Iv been to others that are nice, clean and newer equipment but seems to be just this location. For what they charge for memberships and as many memberships as they have this in inexcusable.

First off let me just say this is the most well kept well run LA fitness I have been to. I just moved into marietta area I am an older woman so when I look into going to gyms I want to make sure that they are clean not a lot of dust, clean floors and nice amenities. this gym met all my needs! I went in and spoke with sales representative Jade and she helped me sign up through silver sneakers. Everybody here was so friendly to the janitors to the staff to even the front desk person. I spoke with Nora for quite a long time about my silver sneakers and let me just say these are some of the most helpful employees. You can tell that they really care about their gym, which makes the experience just 100 times better I would recommend this to anybody that wanted to look for a good gym in Marietta.

I have been in this Gym for 4 years. Sorry to say I am dissatisfied with their service. Compared to any other gym this is very badly maintained. Equipments are old. Their drinking water fountains are out of order. The paper towel and disinfection liquids are not present. I prefer to clean the treadmill but could not.Before covid time it was okay but now they reduced over all quality. Most embarrassing was their app stops by continuously loading and today i provided my phone number and they did not find my number and they did not let me login until the app was back. Then the guy at the front desk did not even say sorry. He said - this how it is. I would prefer to discontinue this but they ask for a cancellation charge.

An absolute scam and shame. Great space going to waste. Management does not care. We signed up and told them from the beginning that we would only have an active membership for a few months. They assured us it would be easy to cancel. 2 in person visits and a very rude general manager conversation later, and we still have not received confirmation that it is cancelled.
Some other cons: Front desk workers are always lounging if you come after 5:00 and make it seem like an inconvenience to help you. Bathrooms are regularly dirty and out of paper towels (when you notify staff, they say the'll get right on it - nothing changes and I am typically there over an hour). I say great space due to the location and amenities, but it seems like they only stay in business by scamming people and dragging out the cancellation process rather than focusing on maintaining and improving their space.

Much of the equipment is broken. It stays broken for months. They just post notes on it saying “Scheduled for repair” without actually repairing anything. Many times the soap and paper towel dispensers are empty leaving no way to clean yourself after using dirty equipment. I wish they’d show this place some care.

Facilities are great. Signed up for the personal trainer and had no connection. They never encouraged me to keep making appointments or made any attempt to reach out. I tried making appointments and/or tried taking their normal classes but none of them fit my schedule. Overall disappointed in their person training program. Facilities were always top notch.

Was so very difficult to cancel my membership. They told me to come in person after serveral attempts to have them mail me a form.
The front desk person at the East Cobb location was rude and said to come back after two days when a manager would be around.
A sales person was nice enough to take care of us as we flew in to town and was flying out the next day.

At least once a month, the gym doesn’t open at 5 am, which is their posted hours. Someone then shows up multiple hours late to open the gym.

They also rarely have disinfectant spray available to wipe down the equipment. I guess management doesn’t care about the operation of this gym.

If you want to get sick go to La Roswell location it is very dirty no hand sanitizer on the wall no disinfectant spray exist. I asked staff at desk he just apologized. We get sick each time going there. If The machine is broken it takes for ever to get fixed. Last week my husband noticed few young boys are smoking pot in the men locker room he went to desk waited for a while talk to the staff no one was there then we left.

Facility is fine, but don’t join this gym if you’re expecting to get through the doors when they’re scheduled to open at 5am…

The staff is regularly late for opening and when that occurs you’re waiting until the rest of the crew arrives. Usually 1-2 hours after opening.

Numerous complaints to the General Manager as well as corporate and nothing has been done to fix the attendance issues.

This gym needs is poorly managed. This is the 2nd morning in a row that there are several people waiting to get into the gym when they open at 8:00 am but the gym wasn’t open.

Be very careful with your membership and cancelation. They make it very hard. Down to the fact that you have to chase down the "operations manager" who only works average business hours. (so if you have an actual job...) There will be no written record of your attempts and they will continue to deduct payment and annual fees in the meantime. Corporate will not process a cancelation and member care services number is also of no use. When you put the charge in dispute, they highlight yet another way to cancel by mail but it has its own five day before billing requirement.
What's crazy is this was a two month only membership that should have had a cancelation in place at the start, so they got a substantial amount of money from someone that did not use the gym due to an injury and lack of communication. So if this review cost them $218.96 or more in memberships my money was well spent.

Just avoid. They don't offer very much, the equipment is old, and the communication is horrible.

They refused to cancel my kid club membership and my regular membership over the phone. I was told on the website and over the phone I needed to go to a physical location. I went there at 6:30pm and they refused to cancel, stating it’s too late. The store manager was there and stated because she is logged out she couldn’t cancel. They can pull up a membership but they can’t cancel it during open hours? They can’t cancel over the phone? Even when I call member services on the phone it says they close at 2pm! And staff is limited so the wait will be extended. Terrible business practices!
On top of this, my father canceled his membership a couple months ago and he has gotten non stop phone calls from LA fitness since then. So they have plenty of time to harass you to join and can rejoin you over the phone but they can’t do anything to cancel unless it’s in person during any normal person’s work hours so it’s impossible to go cancel unless you take time off work.

Cancelled the membership after consistently seeing guys with racist, misogynist shirts on in the gym.
If that's your kind of crowd, this is the place for you.
If you like fellow gym members with absolutely no gym etiquette, this is the place for you.
If you like sitting in other people's chode sweat because there are no disinfectant wipes or spray, this is the place for you.
It's not the place for me.

Context:
New member (May’22). I had a problem with a contract item that wasn't working out for me, and I needed to change it.

Staff solution:
Kevin Skolnick was manning both the front desk as well as the sales desks. He was helpful in cancelling the contract and redoing it since I was in the 7-day grace period.

I felt good about being there and thought I made the right decision in being a member.

July Update (rating now 3-star):
Kevin left after about a month. Turnover here is not ideal. I saw cracks appear that I didn’t notice as a new member. There are some downsides here which may not be unique to this gym. They have issues keeping sanitation fluid and paper towels stocked. Some workers are very responsive to clients reporting these issues, while others nod, wait for you to leave, and then go back to watching videos on their phones.

*Easy solution for LA Fitness is to get rid of paper towels and spray, replacing them with dispensing pre-soaked sanitation towelettes. Then only one item has to be replaced, and it’s in line with industry standard.*

Also, it would be great to hire staff who could enforce standards and keep clients accountable for re-racking weights and wiping down.
