I was traveling to the area here and stopped by for a workout last Thursday night. The staff was very friendly and made sure that I was able to get situated quickly. They have a really wide variety of equipment and a lot of space. Nothing looked broken or poorly maintained that I could see. The facility itself is clean, and everyone there was pretty polite.

I’ve been with this gym for over 5 years and I’m satisfied with it. It has vastly improved with the owner changeover, adding new equipment, fixing broken stuff, changing the layout, expanding lifting areas, and generally managing the facility so much more efficiently.

However, there is really one area of improvement that will take this gym from 4 to 5 stars: the locker room (males). There has already been some upgrade to the space with the addition of new mirrors, but it really needs a deep clean. The caulking is browning, chipped, and looks funky, and the counter spaces need a wire brush taken to them. The showers need a nice renovation with a look that doesn’t involve so many grout lines. Water pressure could use some work as well for sinks and shower. All that being said, this is very not-picky of me, but I’d love to see these improvements made.

With how much time and effort the new owners have taken to significantly improve this facility I will remain a loyal member for quite some time. I’m looking forward to watching this place continue to get better and better.

Place takes my money, I moved over 900 miles away and was trying to cancel my membership for months, I emailed there team and also not to mention I’m in the military on orders. I even called multiple times and they said they would get it handled, 5 months later still being charged, if it doesn’t get canceled this month I’m gonna take it higher than it needs to be.

How do I describe my experience?

First: I’m thankful to Tony (Manager) who assisted us with a smile whenever we entered the first time and he gave us all the information we needed.

Second: The Gym itself is pretty good and they have all the equipment i needed for my everyday workout and the kidz club is the best ever, if you have kids and you want to workout, you can bring them and leave them for 2hrs while you workout.

Third: People who goes to this gym are very friendly as well.

So overall this is the best gym we ever went to. Im thankful i get to workout while my daughter play.

Where do I even begin? I have been to so many gyms over the years. It is no exaggeration to say MaxFitness is the best gym I have been able to use by far. Staffed 24 hours, an old school bodybuilding area where you can blast music and get your pump on, a wide variety of cardio machines to get you sweating, a turf lane for sled push/pulls and stretching, group fitness, machines, massage chairs, (I can go on forever). The absolute game changer that makes this gym my number one go to, is tier 1 childcare. No more juggling schedules to allow everyone to hit the gym. Unlike some other gyms, you are not paying a ridiculous sum for childcare. Gym staff is phenomenal, knowledgeable, and always friendly. If you need a gym or are looking for something better, you can’t do better than this. Special shout out to the manager, Tony. His passion for fitness and people truly reflect at this place.

I wish I had a positive review for this gym but they have let me down tremendously as they have been stealing from me for 4 months. As a paying and proud member of this establishment for 1yr I’m truly disappointed in the way I’ve been treated. On May 9th, I sent in my membership cancellation due to having a high risk pregnancy. I was told & ensured by The Manager “Tony” that it would be cancelled but they will charge me another month. Not a problem. Here we are in September and I am still being charged after I was told I wouldn’t be after June. I was charged twice for September 1st, $44.99 and $49.00. Once August 1st, $49.00, Once July 1st, $44.99 and June 1st, $44.99. I would like a refund for these charges because I specifically spoke with management and was told it would be canceled at the end of May. I was then told 2 weeks ago to resend my original email and the doctor’s letter to another email and still haven’t heard from management. I call every single day to speak to Tony or a manager to confirm my cancellation but they tell me he isn’t working that day. EVERY DAY he’s not working. The staff is even telling me they’ll write a note and pass it to him which I highly doubt they do! I’m now 8 months pregnant & my condition or risk has increased significantly. I cannot exercise yet alone afford this gym membership any longer. I did not want to take it to reviews but until I get a call this is what I’m forced to do! They will not give me any higher ups number, regional or district manager so I’m going to have to get my lawyer involved because this is theft!

Update 9/30/2026 - management reached out to express his apologies on the situation. His excuse for the whole situation was that their system was not optimized to track cancellation request - which leads to the issue I encountered as well as other people who have reviewed this gym. He attempted to intercept the collections payment but was unsuccessful. However, he did offer to pay less than half which to me was not satisfactory since being sent to collections was not my fault. This was definitely an appreciated effort but it does not make it right. I made the necessary effort to make things right ahead of time and I was ignored - resulting in the collections agency calling and me being forced to pay the $455. It was the result of a poor business process and ignorance to what issues they had in their systems leading ongoing reviews of predatory subscriptions. I am disappointed to say that management did not follow through on their word which reinforces the dishonest nature of this gym. Again, this is more than poor customer service—it is predatory, dishonest, and exploitative. This exact situation is a perfect example of dishonest business and the issues with contracts with gyms. They have writing that captures the ability for relocation circumstances. They will continue billing you as long as possible, then damage your credit when you’ve had enough. If you value honesty and people keeping their word, steer clear of this business.

I had a very similar experience to another reviewer on here. If I could give zero stars, I would. I had to cancel my membership due to being on a long-term work contract that required me to relocate prior to the end of the two year commitment. The gym staff communicated to me that I would have no issue ending my contract early given my circumstances. I provided the documentation of my situation that the local gym mentioned I had to supply. I sent multiple emails to the directed management individual with no response. I eventually stopped paying the bill because they refused to reply to my emails. I continued paying for only a few months after my usage of the gym stopped, just to avoid conflict— I received multiple phone calls reminding me to pay the bill, I explained that I have sent emails to the directed individual to cancel the membership. Management ignored me the entire time. They didn't hesitate to send me to collections

I’ve been a proud and dedicated member of Max Fitness for about 15 years, and I frequently recommend your gym to others. I usually never complain, but I feel I need to voice a concern.

Recently, my daughters came home from college for the weekend and wanted to join me for a single workout. I was charged $30 for them to come in. While I understand there are policies in place, I feel this is excessive for just a one-day visit. Most gyms offer guest passes, or at the very least a more reasonable day rate. Please fix this

I did enjoy my time at the gym here and would have continued if it wasn’t for PCS’ing. Unfortunately, when I tried to cancel due to my military PCS orders, management refused to honor the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (50 U.S.C. Code 3955). The law is clear: once notice and orders are provided, a membership must be terminated within 30 days. Instead, they were reluctant to cancel and insisted on billing me until the “effective date” on my orders, even after I explained that I would be reporting early.

What frustrated me most is that I explained this clearly and they still doubled down, refusing to listen. Not only is this unfair — it’s breaking federal law meant to protect servicemembers.

This left a very sour impression. A gym that markets to the community should understand and respect those protections, not make leaving harder than it already is. Military members should be aware that this facility may not handle PCS cancellations properly and may try to push charges beyond what is legally allowed.

Good gym, recently upgraded a lot of their machines and the Cave area. Fairly clean outside of not replacing spray bottles and paper towels enough to wipe equipment down. Only reason this isn’t 5 stars is because it is very hot inside the gym. This change seemed happened when new ownership took over. Asked the front desk about it and they told me that the AC was broken and would eventually be fixed. That was roughly 5- 6 months ago, and it is just as hot, if not hotter because of the summer heat. I would avoid this gym if you have issues with heat stress.

I love Max Fitness. They need janitorial services and stop being cheap. There are a lot of sweaty bodies coming in and put of their 24 hours of the day, 365. Cleanliness is MANDATORY or the gym starts getting a bad reputation. Bottom line. It is not the employees responsibility for Janitorial Services when the original hired janitor left the business. I’ve been to several gyms in the Augusta area and found none that compare to Max Fitness. They do an outstanding job of tending to your fitness goals and have a great selection of equipment for any type of workout.

On top of a pro style locker room and sauna you have their cool staff that’ll work with you to get what you need out of a personal gym.

Absolutely horrible customer service. I was in Augusta for work for 7 months. I was told when I signed the contract that if I moved away from Augusta all I had to do was send am email from my company confirming I was moving and that would be sufficient to cancel my membership. I sent the email in April, spoken to the manager as well as other workers at the gym multiple times about canceling my membership, and I'm still getting charged despite being told membership is frozen. Do not sign a contract with Max Fitness is you are not expecting to spend a full year here.

The turf area is wide without feeling cramped. The push room is a solid upgrade. They’re always investing into the space and new evolving equipment. I was the first to try out the new boxing bag after the new boxing bag.

Outside the equipment, the gym has a great atmosphere that encourages continuous improvement. The staff is attentive and always looking for ways to help you progress, whether through training adjustments or new equipment. It’s clear they are about helping you get the most out of every workout.

Okay so I’ve been coming to this gym for a while as a guest when I visit home. I’ve mived back, so naturally it’s my gym now. Everybody at the desk is pretty friendly. I was offered a “free” drink “for being nice” lol but I knew it was actually to leave a review. Which I’m okay with—a “free” drink is a “free” drink. 30g of protein that I didn’t have to pay for beyond having my membership. The group ex room is not the best ventilated space, but it works. The group ex instructors are top tier. Some of the equipment is rickety, but overall most of my (and I’m sure other peoples’) requests for repairs have been fulfilled. The variety of equipment is great for this area compared to their counterparts. Idk about Crunch. My father in law went there recently since they just opened and says he prefers the Y. And I prefer Max to the Y from an equipment standpoint.

Love this gym, it's always clean and the equipment is always well kept. Not to mention the child care is an amazing plus, it allows me to work out with my wife while my kiddo gets to play with other kids. She always says she has fun. Anyone looking got get into better shape and have a pleasant experience should try this gym

Max Fitness Augusta has upgraded equipment and even hired a professional artist to paint amazing murals on the walls, which adds to the nice upgrades, lighting, tvs, etc etc.
The janitorial staff are always working hard to keep it clean and nice.
I highly recommend this gym to those who like free weights.

Do not join here. They make it almost impossible to cancel. You can not cancel in store or online. Also they do not disclose it’s a 2 year membership when you join. Every other gym is one year but this place seems fraudulent.

They are starting to make upgrades & have new equipment. But now consistent A/C & Music Playing are taking a hit. There is new management/owner so maybe that is a part of it. It is not really a female friendly gym. You have to wear headphones if you want music. The placement of some of the machines is questionable, meaning your bum is directly exposed to the person behind you. A lot of the equipment is also uncomfortably close to each other. Hopefully all of these issues will be resolved sooner than later. Overall you can lift, do cardio, and they offer some classes.

It allows me to get my workout in with complete peace of mind, knowing they're in excellent hands.

Whether you're into cardio, strength training, or a mix of both, there's always an open machine and a diverse selection to choose from. I never have to wait, and I can easily switch up my routine to keep things interesting.

I’ve really come to appreciate the sense of community at this gym. There’s a great balance between professionalism and friendliness — the staff are approachable, and communication with members is always positive and supportive, never disruptive.

Special shoutout to the general manager too. They’re incredibly personable and take the time to connect with members in a way that makes you feel valued, but it’s always done with respect for your time and workout. It creates a welcoming environment without taking away from the focus and flow of training. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for both a solid workout and a respectful community!
