This is an assessment of River Forest that I sent to my golf circle. (10-1-2025)

First it's a solid 4-Star gated course.
The guys in the pro-shop are very friendly.
Nice layout.
Golf carts are gas but no GPS - you can drive them into the parking lot.
Restrooms are old but clean and do not need a code.
Some very interesting (fun) holes to make you think.
Water doesn’t really come into play until the 10th hole.
Drop Zone in front of a sand trap (WHAT?!- weird sense of humor).
The sand traps are kind of hard and could use some more sand.
A couple of holes drop down from an elevated tee (Really COOL!)
Most red tees are in the fairway (Literally at the beginning of the fairways level to the ground) Kim flipped over that!
Pretty easy to follow cart path to next hole.
Some damage on cart path but very little.
A couple of par 4 "Cart path only" that I can’t figure out why. One is almost identical to the one on the back at Crystal Lake that have a HARD dogleg right down the hill.
The greens roll true and some are painted around the edge.
A couple of the greens are beat up pretty bad (I don't know why they were not repaired during their temporary closing).
It is ACTUALLY necessary to drive your golf cart in the street/road to get to hole 17 & 18. The road didn't appear to be busy but still a little unsettling as you are in the street for about 100 yards.

I didn't use the range or putting green but both appears to be in excellent shape.
Kim and I will probably play the course four times during a season and it is DEFINITELY worth the trip to play. It's a very easy and straight forward drive from I75-South. Exit Johnsonville RD Turn left on Johnsonville, Left on River Forest to Course which is on the left.

Out of the five Green Valley Golf Courses Kim likes River Forest the best but it's a toss up for me between River Forest and Providence with me leaning toward River Forest because of the easy drive and great people (Staff & Club Members on the course).

I forgot to mention that there is a Black Tee Box between the Red & Green Tees. The Green tee is labeled for seniors on the scorecard so I don't know who would use the Black tees?!

I had heard that this was a beautiful course, and it didn't disappoint. It is also sneaky difficult, but very fair. It was definitely worth the 40 minute drive for me, and will be part of my weekly rotation.

This is a great course with a nice combination of elevation changes, creeks and lakes to navigate, strategically placed white sand bunkers, and large undulating greens. They take very good care of it and it always looks nice with smooth medium/fast greens, thick but closely cut fairways, and the . A nice driving range where it seems they are always hitting off grass and a huge practice green. There are several blind fairways and doglegs, so course knowledge is a huge help on those holes. It would be very helpful for a first timer to have either a member in their group, a yardage book, or an app with overhead views of the fairways and distances to hazards. Luckily all the members I have met are genuine and friendly. It is a neighborhood course with distance between some holes, but the houses generally sit a well away from the fairways/greens, and with very little if any OB coming into play. I would highly recommend playing this course if you are ever afforded the opportunity. The course is very woman friendly with a tee choices of under 4300 and under 4900, the nines both return to the clubhouse, and there are real restrooms after the 4th hole on both nines. Nice electric carts with coolers. There are 4 tee boxes with with the scorecard offering 6 yardage combinations to choose from (6735, 6280, 6063, 5489, 4893 4274). A big clubhouse with a large dining room that works great for hosting tournaments. Also a bar and dining room that is great for a drink/meal before or after your round.

This is a very special course. Beautiful. I was shocked. It’s in the middle of nowhere but worth the drive. One of the best you will play in the state. I’ve played many nice ones. (Cap city, the manor, settindown, east lake, etc)

Nothing great about the clubhouse, the food, or the practice facilities. But the course itself....my goodness.

This course is beautiful with wonderful mountain view’s and a river zig zagging through the entire course. The fairways and greens were great. The big problem was the amount of mowers on the course. We started at 7:45 and we dodged mowers for 3 hours. We had a rumbling engine in the background on most of our shots. One young driver kept mowing full bore no more than 30 yards away from us until we finally asked him to turn his mower off while we hit. We called the pro shop and they told us the starter should have paired us up with two other people. Huh?? What difference does that make? They finally finished mowing after we had played 15 holes. If we were playing a muni course our expectations wouldn’t be so high but at $100 each it would have been nice to enjoy the wonderful scenery without engine noise in the background while we played.

This beautiful Golf Course used to be private. It's in fine condition and can be played by the public. In my opinion it's one of the best golf courses in the Atlanta area. We just played in a charity event this week and it was well run and we totally enjoyed ourselves. I look forward to my next round there.

Porsche Club dinner here. Efficient helpful staff, DELICIOUS food (3 kinds of meat) , rice and 3 vegetables. Comfortable seating, quiet room. And the parking lot was amazing with 10 Porsches!
