This golf course offers many challenging holes. I have been playing there for 2 years now and they continue to improve the conditions of the course. I like the fact that I can be done in 3 hours. Some of the holes offer beautiful view in the spring and fall.

Great value, really fun layout with tons of elevation change. Only downside is a lot of the fairways are packed together, so there’s a decent chance you’ll catch a stray ball. All the golfers we encountered on the course were polite and kept decent pace of play

Steel Canyon Golf Club is currently in an state of disrepair. The course's condition is far below what is expected for a paid round, and it does not live up to its marketed status as an executive golf course.
The most critical issues include:
• Hazardous Tee Boxes: Many teeing grounds are literally rock-filled, dirt-packed, and hard as cement, making it nearly impossible to tee up a ball. Some holes still rely on temporary turf mats that should have been replaced months ago.
• Poor Greens: The greens are inconsistent, slow, and covered with numerous patches of sand. This, combined with an overwhelming amount of leaves and weeds, makes putting a frustrating chore.
• Neglected Maintenance: Basic landscaping, such as clearing leaves from the greens and fairways, is clearly being skipped. This widespread neglect significantly reduces the course's playability and value.
The course is functionally an overgrown, poorly maintained executive track, with prices that do not reflect its current, abysmal conditions.

It wasn't my favorite place to play golf. The course conditions are not very good at all. The tee boxes are poor at best, the greens have weeds on them there is trash (beer cans) all over the place. The few areas with water (around hole two and three) smell like a literal sewer. The course is tightly packed into a small area so you will always see other golfers, which isn't a big deal. The staff are all very polite and accommodating which was nice. All in all the course provides an ok place to play golf for not a lot of money and if you keep an eye open you can leave with more golf balls then you came in with.

My son (6) and I just played this course for the first time. If you are an avid golfer or even only have decent expectations for courses, do not play here. The course was not in good shape (greens were horrible and some were covered in goose poop), but the customer service was worse. I can usually overlook some issues but what was most frustrating was the marshal. When I asked for a cart, I was bounced around between a young man and the marshal, as if no one wanted to get a cart. The marshal also tried to combine my tee time with the tee time in front of me. When I pointed out that the people teeing off in front of me had a separate tee time, the marshal said I was paired with someone whom he might have sent out earlier and so I should have played with the other pair teeing off ten minutes ahead of my tee time. When I said that I preferred to keep my scheduled tee time, he was visibly frustrated. Save your money. It just wasn't worth it.

What a great place for handy caps of 15 and above, it's about your short game. Also great for seniors, women and they pride themselves with juniors practicing their new talents. Course is looking good, normally can be flexible when needed for tee times.

UPDATE TO ORIGINAL POST: I've been meaning to update for 2 seasons now - The Canyon is doing a really good job of making the course nicer all around. There are now:
- New hole markers, featuring hole layout and yardage
- Gas powered golf carts were new two seasons ago - much nicer than before.
- Scorecards and pencils now available in a waterproof box at hole #1
- Additional water coolers throughout the course
- New ball wash and towel stands
- And here's the biggest thing - they are making real progress on the greens. I would say that they are the best I have seen here in years. At least 6-7 of them are in excellent condition and the rest are trying. There are always a couple that will be tough due to their location.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
ORIGINAL - To play at Steel Canyon takes a certain amount of patience and always having a good time regardless of what the course throws your way. It's a great little course with a lot of geographic challenges (#4 and #8 come to mind) - so plan your shots accordingly. Added TopTracer to range recently. Super friendly staff, and the best price for a round of golf - get the super cheap membership and save on every round you play.

This course has sooo much potential however the greens team seems to only keep up about half the holes. Some of the holes have a great sloping fairway while others demand distance to avoid the clay stretches. When you are on top of the landfill mound it feels like such a pretty and manicured course. When you are on the bottom and around, it feels the opposite. That being said, I really do enjoy playing here and the hi-tech range bays are great. Cost is pretty pricey for course conditions. Makes it difficult to justify coming out here when they are charging the same as some nicer courses in the area.

Was once a solid place to practice until the owner got greedy. The constant price hikes on balls is absurd especially given the condition of most of them. If you get a medium bucket you might find 12-15 that are solid. The medium bucket is now 70 balls for the same price that 80 balls were and the large bucket of 120 balls is now $19. Everyone there today had negative reactions to it. The greedy owner will lose more than he gains with this move. Once my range card is done I’ll never come back here.

For the price, it's just right. Some greens and tee boxes could use some work but overall it's not bad. If you're expecting Agusta like greens and fairways then don't bother. If you're looking for a quick round and using some longer clubs then this place is for you.

A good course for beginners or those trying to get out and golf, but set your expectations low. First off the course is on a landfill, nothing wrong with that but it can smell on some holes. The only issue with this is that 18 holes are somewhat stuffed on this land and it is incredibly crowded.
However the employee at the start was incredibly rude. He sat in a golf cart and was barking at us from a distance that we needed to see him first. He was out of earshot and was not dressed like an employee, so by the time I realized what was going on and went over to him, he was pissed. He kept giving us a lot of attitude for zero reason, until we explained it was our first time there and started to give him an attitude. Finally he let us through after this altercation, which could have been avoided if he wasn’t too lazy to come over and explain things to me. He also told us that we weren’t allowed to bring our own beers on the course, and that we needed to buy some from their club. However I called ahead of time and asked if alcohol was allowed, to which the club representative on the phone said yes.
This same employee also seemed to be in charge of letting you go on your proper tee time, which was a complete disaster. Our tee time was at 3:20, which we showed up for on the dot and ready for. After dealing with the employee, we got to our tee and there were people teeing off that he admitted at our exact tee time. Whatever. There was a group of 6 behind us, which would have been a good pace to go infront of with our small group. By the time we teed off and got on the fairway, there were four separate people that were admitted ahead of the group of six, and they were set up at the tee box, and the group that was allowed to take our tee time was practically still on the green. They then let the group of six go right after. So by the time we finished our first hole, hole number one was backed up with 15 people in 10 minutes.
The course is also littered with high schoolers with zero respect, they will hole hop, take ages, and shout obscenities at you if you complement their put.
On the bright side, the course does not seem to be in that bad of shape. It is not that bad for the price, but everything else involved, I do not think it was worth the $40 for 9 holes.
Their driving range is nice/large, but I will not be returning to play rounds of golf here unless every other course in GA burns down.

This golf course is horrendous. Poorly kept, poorly run. The starter is the most disrespectful and infuriating individual to deal with. Several greens which are virtually unplayable. I’ve been here several times, and they’ve all been terrible but today takes the cake. Took 2 hours to get through the first 6 holes. No one did anything about it despite us calling the clubhouse multiple times. Not to mention this round should cost at most $8 yet they charge a highway robbery $45.

My friend and I enjoy playing here. Everyone is so friendly (especially Lonnie, the starter) and the course is in much better shape than it used to be. The practice facilities are way better than you would expect. And the price is great. We usually can play 18 in under 3 hours making it easier to fit in a round on a workday. She and I are both members at private clubs and still choose to play here once or twice a month. It’s a great place to practice your short game and is a relaxing and fun course.

The fact they’re charging $40 for that is insane. I’m not sure how anyone can hit a putt outside of 5 feet with the amount of grassy patches, sand, and old hole locations on the greens. There are multiple holes where they just have a mat for a tee box. Bring a rubber tee if you have one (no one has a rubber tee in the bag!)

Biggest tip is get here early. I wish the greens were in better shape. Good hole layout and variety. This course is a pretty good test of golf fundamentals. It questions you to if you know when to lay up, use a Texas wedge, and if it’s actually a smart idea to attack every flag. If have a high score at this course you really can’t blame course conditions… you probably need to focus on FIR, GIR, and minimizing 3 putts above all else. If you can shoot high 70’s-low 80’s, this course will play easy. If you shoot on the 100’s, you will likely lose an entire box of balls.

The older african american groundskeeper/golf cart manager is unbelievably condescending and rude. If you’re looking to improve the place, look into firing this guy. We made the unforgivable mistake of getting “close” to the green and he came up screaming at us. And, when my group and I went to pick up carts to begin our round he made a ton of condescending statements like “Yeah I know how to count” when we mentioned we needed 2 carts for 4 people. I never make reviews to complain but this experience TRULY left a sour taste in my mouth. The golf is okay, buttery the way this gentleman treated us makes me think this wasn’t his first time.

Awful experience. Just wanted to ride along with my boyfriend and his friends golfing. First the starter gave me the hardest time about just riding along even though I had paid, very rude and would not listen to anything I said. Then, half way through I had to use the restroom. I was hopeful there would eventually be a place to use the bathroom. I was wrong, there was not a single restroom anywhere on the course. I had to go in the woods. Will not be coming back.

I’ve been playing this course for at least 10 years now. It is what it is. They’ve at least mowed down some of the super thick stuff on 1 & 2. Upgraded the driving range somewhat as well. However this most recent round the greens were especially horrendous. Looked like they punched but botched it or it didn’t take. It could be a fun, quirky little course near the city if they would take care of it. But I fear they’re perfectly fine just taking peoples money and delivering a subpar product. Plenty of tee times available at least. Used to be a landfill. Maybe they should just go back to that. Buyer beware.

This is a nice last minute option of a course to play at. If you plan your tee times ahead of time, I doubt you’d find yourself here. I’d love to know why I paid full price to play there today, when the range as well as 1 of the holes on the course were completely closed. As far as public courses go in the area, you can play at Fox Creek for 10 or so dollars more with GREAT green conditions compared to Steel Canyons greens, year round. I would think Steel Canyon would keep up with their competitors in the area and know their course is not 38 dollars worthy. I mean come on… some of their “tee boxes” are mats. I’d also like to note, the last time I played at Steel Canton was over a year ago, and they’ve yet to fix the holes with mats for tees… It seems like a minimal, worth while investment to fix that. No hate, just facts. I wish the conditions were better so I could utilize the course more often than I do.

Awful. Starter and the older cart guy were complete jerks. We had to wait a hour after our tee time because they didn’t have carts. A benefit of executive courses is they are normally quicker, not steel canyon. Expect a 5-6 hour round for a par 61. Also, about 13 of the holes are unplayable because the maintenance is so awful. 2/7/2023 the driving range is nice it’s a top tracer range, all mats in decent shape, but don’t go past that, the course in in rough shape. it has a couple fun par 3 holes and if it was taken care of it would be fun to play, but they’re in such rough shape that it’s just not worth playing, especially for the price of $35 dollars on a weekday. multiple holes have mats in the tee area, and the ones that don’t the tee boxes are in such bad shape you pretty much have to hit everything off a tee. doesn’t look like any of the random bunkers have been cleaned out or raked in a while. There are random mud pits all over the place that look like they’ve been there for awhile due to the golf balls half buried all over the course like tombstones. Guys in the shop were nice, and they had a good selection of beer and other drinks, cart was nice it had been cleaned, everything about this place is good except for the course itself which is a shame.

What a great change this place has come in a single year. I live close and embarrassed to say, I don't go as much as I should. They now have new screens in the covered bays which track each shot and accurately depict everybsingle element of ball flight you would imagine. Very similar to Top Golf but much better, in my opinion.
The application they use is called TopTracer and so easy to use and set up an account. You can even download the app and you can use the QR code to synce your profile and track your progress. There are always bays open and the staff is excellent. Very professional, polite and there is never a shortage of range balls. Great course for the price and location. Their range with Top Golf Tracer bays is a fun feature that brings me early for rounds and back on days when I'm not playing

This place is the worst course I have ever played at. I can’t believe we payed 40 dollars to play here. The greens are terrible and it’s confusing as hell to get to each hole. Not only that but my group was verbally harassed by the ranger. Never coming back here.

Played here today and was harassed by one of the rangers who claimed that I drove on the green when he drove the same distance from the green as me. Rangers should be more focused on making the tee boxes less like the Saharan desert. Will not be playing here again and I am completely dissatisfied with my purchase may as well have been a par 3 course.

Probably not worth playing if you have to play it. I guess it's covering an old landfill? or similar, under power lines. Almost no 'nature' or trees. Several holes you have to play from one side of the hill over it and back down so it is blind. The sun is brutal. They pack players in and holes seem to criss cross each other in places. Odd steep elevations. The driving range has top golf range finders which is cool. Better not to play golf than play here I think, but would rather play any other cheap muni.

I play this course about once each week because it is only 10 minutes from my house, is seldom crowded on week days, and is one of the few that lets solo golfers play alone. And it is hard to beat the price. It is not just a par 3 executive course. There are 4 par 4 holes and even a par 5. The greens are designed in such a way that virtually all of them present a real challenge to get on and stay on them. Considering how many people play each week, the course condition is really pretty good.

I give it five stars because it's really a fun course and they are improving it.
That being said it is not a country club by any means.
It's a par 62 with one par 5 but it is 18 holes some are pretty challenging'
The greens are fast and the course is well maintained, and the staff is friendly.
It is in it's own category for sure, so I can't compare it to a normal course.
No restaurant no real frills just fun golfing on a fun course at a good price!

First off, this is not a normal course. Waste of money. This might as well be known as a Par 3 course. I only made it through 8 holes. I had 3 single hole hop and jump in front of me - one of them was hitting 2 to even 4 golf balls!!! I finally yelled towards him to ask what he was doing and he flipped me off. At the turn I went into the Club house and they guy at the desk tried to be all chirpy and I was not happy. I said what had happened and told him I wanted my money back, they REFUSED to refund me any money and didn’t care about anyone hole hopping. Waste of time and money… I mad $33 to play 7 holes. Worst experience I’ve ever had on a golf course.

Outside of the gigantic a-hole masquerading as a ranger, we had a great time on our round today.
Decent tee boxes, fabulously maintained fairways and solid greens on a well-designed and kept track kept things interesting.
I would have given 5 out of 5 stars had it not been for the seemingly tenured, well past his prime, senile, geriatric, devoid of repercussions ranger who had quite possibly the worst attitude of anyone I've never encountered on a golf course. Management would be doing the course a favor by sending that fossil out to pasture, post-haste.

I really enjoyed this course a lot for my game. Great for short game work and the pace wasn't bad for me. Some greens and tee boxes were in rough shape and a couple of pins were in tough positions but for what it is it's a good time. I'll certainly be playing here a good bit.

Staff was nice but it’s a bit pricey for what it is. Basically just a par 3 course that is crammed in the land it’s on with some major maintenance needed. For a pretty Saturday ended up paying about $40 a person for a course that should probably be priced closer to $20-$25/player. Being such a short course with the only maintenance seeming to be they cut the little grass that they have, you can find better courses for the price.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect. Booked in golf now because they had the tee time we needed. Played there yesterday and it was busy, which I expected since it rained most of the day Saturday. Didn’t get to tee off on hole 1 till about 25 minutes after our tee time. Course is built on an old landfill, and some holes are parallel to each other. My hole 6 tee shot landed on 16 I believe. Not a bad course for the money. Staff was friendly. Parking lot was packed and took awhile to find a spot when I arrived.
Range is decent. Pricing was fair. 40 balls were $6. I bought some and hit before my round.

Staff friendly and helpful. I wish it were a 72 par course. I didn't know until I looked at the scorecard but it was like $10 deal after coupon so I am not complaining. Kinda wet but I think it's because my teeoff time is early morning. I like this facility and will revisit if they are running twilight promotions.

Cons- rude staff, always wet, pace of play, etc

Steel Canyon is an executive par 3 course built on top of a landfill, so if you’re expecting greens and facilities comparable to that of a country club it’s not what you’ll find here. However, what you will find here is an affordable, fun to play course with a lighted driving range and practice area that serves it’s purpose well. For the money, Steel Canyon is just fine by me. What truly sets the place apart, though, is the friendly staff. Every time I come in I feel as if I’m welcomed with open arms. I love the atmosphere here and it’s why I keep coming back whenever I want to take a quick break to knock a few golf balls around. Kudos to Steel Canyon for employing people who make the place feel like home to so many of us.

*Note: review is only for the golf course, refer to other comments for the driving range!*
Pros:
- I chose to book this course in the first place because it was very affordable ($91 including tax for 3 players and to rent 2 golf carts to play 18 holes).
- Good beginner's golf course. Very laissez faire—no one is headhunting you, no marshals patrolling around, and the people golfing with you for the most part are patient and just here to have a good time.
- Booking the course is really easy. You just go directly online (which gives a discount if you book online). There were LOTS of tee times despite me booking on a holiday week during COVID! I had to change my reservation time 2 times, which I had to call the pro shop to change. Every time, it was super easy, no hassle!
Warnings:
- Mud town! Ditto on everyone else on how muddy the course is. Don't bring your new golf shoes to this course (that is EXACTLY what my partner did, of course lol). For perspective, I was wearing sneakers and by the end of the 18 holes, the wet mud had gotten through my shoes to wet my socks a bit.
- COVID precautions are lax! I noticed that people were just parking the carts and no care was being taken to wipe down the carts. Luckily we have wipes handy in the car to use, but otherwise, I think this is something the Club should have as standard practice.
- Btw these are gasoline powered carts. So if you don't like the smell of burnt gasoline every time you drive / prefer electric powered carts, heads up.
- Don't come here for the scenery! This place literally used to be a landfill. While I am really happy there is a much better use of the land, it's no looker (and the photo gracing this Google profile has to be a few years old—the cute little lighthouse thingy is in a bad need of a repaint). Around hole 5-6 there is this ringing noise coming from the surrounding power / industrial buildings, which can mess with your concentration.
- Super confusing layout. People crossing over different holes because their ball would land on a completely different hole (and not because they were that bad at golf, mind you). Could benefit from more signage. But honestly the crammed layout is uncurable, even if you added 1000 more signs. Get ready to lose your balls—because of the crammed, narrow layout being bordered by brushland and creeks, balls get lost really easily.
- Lastly, I think it's really important to point out that this establishment actively supports the police. There is a yard sign gracing the front of the "clubhouse" saying "We Support Sandy Springs Police". Given recent events, I do think this is an important fact to note on where your money is going if you are frequenting this course. For us, this was reason enough for us to know to take our money elsewhere.
Overall, I think this establishment is run by folks are good intentioned, but given the number of golfing options in the Metro Atlanta area, I think it's worth checking out other spots.

Course is horribly marked, played up to the wrong hole more than once. There was an instructor who “jumped” in on the course in front of us and took their sweet, sweet time. Very frustrating as a paying customer to have to just sit and wait for about 80% of my round. Carts are nice, everything is muddy. Probably won’t play here again.

Started going to this course over the summer, and its been great. First impressions were not that good with the power lines and bland atmosphere, however, after playing a round it turned out to be an amazing experience. Once you get past the first few holes, you start to get a change of scenery playing through wooded areas and wide open plains. One thing that stood out while playing was the fact my party and I lost the lineup that was behind us (we're not the fastest golfers), which made the round a lot more stress free. My only complaint would be the driving range which is fairly small and almost unplayable if you are at the ends of the range's horseshoe shape. The cheap prices, friendly staff, and fun course are all reasons you should check out this casual hole in the wall course.
(P.S. Be careful near the beginning of the course, the hills are really steep and I almost flipped my cart)

Came here for the course and left wanting to come back for the driving range. The course seems like you are hiking up and down 18 mountains even in a cart. Every green is really soggy for some reason, and it hasn't rained in a week I believe. Most of the par 3s are a good length from the tips. The par 4s and 5 are not good, because of the hole layouts. If this course seems very cramped, thats because it is. The driving range is nice with mats, a partial roof, and NIGHT LIGHTS; grass does need work on though. Chipping area is nice with an elevated green, and a bunker. Putting green is small and simulates their greens very well. Will only come back if I want to play the par 3s at twilight for the discounted rate or for the driving range where they have an excellent pricing for balls. All staff were very very friendly!

Second time playing here. The first time we played the conditions of 15th hole tee box was more fitting for mudriding than golf. I won't be back to Steel Canyon as long as they don't value their customers. My group of three paid for 18 holes yesterday however on the 5th hole a very strong lightning storm started. We really wanted to play so we tried waiting out the rain in our carts. After 30 minutes of very hard rain, it wasn't stopping and several low areas were under a few inches of water. We drove back to the clubhouse, with their front porch under ankle deep water, and asked for a rain check but was told they don't give them. What course doesn't value their customers? Rain isn't the customer's fault nor did we leave at the first rain drop. All three of us paid $29 for 18 holes, not 4.5. My group plays around Atlanta weekly but won't be back to Steel Canyon as long as they don't value their customer's time and money. I have video of the weather and course conditions as I don't make a habit of giving bad reviews but this wasn't how the situation should've been handled.
